Horrible, horrible service. They have known issues with the oil consumption on the 2.5 motor. My car has been drinking oil and they refused to even do the oil consumption test. They took liberties to run a diagnostic on my check engine light and then threatened me with a mechanic lien if I didn't pay for it. I have leased 3 Sonatas from here over the last 14 years! I have always been pleased with the salesman and service dept until February of 2025. My 2019 Sonata was peeling the white color of paint. I had brought my car in as soon as I received the notice for the free paint repair. The 2 spots were re-painted, but a little time later there were more areas where the paint peeled but because I had broken my shoulder I wasn't able to bring my car back in until Feb. 2025. At which time the free paint repair was discontinued. Then in 2026 I saw online that Hyundai was again repairing the peeling paint on 2019 Sonatas. I brought my car back in as did many more people. That was in May or June I believe, was told it would be a month or so! Today is August 2,2026, 4 weeks ago I called to check when I might get my car in and was told I should get a call in about 2 weeks! Still haven't heard a damn thing from anybody at Hyundai! In the past I sent friends to Big Star because I was very happy with the purchases and service! Now I regret having to deal with the service department and will never purchase or lease from there again! Very frustrating experience with Big Star Hyundai. Over the weekend, Arin Roberson, the floor manager, said they had two IONIQ 5 Limiteds available. At 10:00 AM the next morning, I let them know I was ready to buy that day if they would send me an out-the-door quote and emphasized I was in a hurry because a 10K manufacturer's incentive ended the next day and I had to drive 3 hours the next day to their dealership. I heard nothing back, followed up around 2:00 PM, was told something would be sent in a couple of minutes, followed up again after 3:00 PM, and received an all-caps response saying, "PUTTING SOMETHING TOGETHER RN." Shortly after that, they sent a quote for a Hyundai Tucson instead of the IONIQ 5 Limited I had been asking about the entire time. I then complained about the wasted time and got a quick response saying, "okay let me look into it," but then heard nothing further. What made this worse is that when my wife separately inquired and was even allowed to move toward placing a $1,000 deposit, the vehicle was later said to be sold after she repeatedly asked not to be bait-and-switched given that we had to drive three-hours to get there. Based on the conflicting responses we received, this raised serious concern about whether the vehicle was actually available when it was first represented to us. My experience at Big Star Hyundai was beyond disappointing -- it was disturbing. I initially called about a vehicle and was told that $20,000 out the door was "very doable." Based on that conversation, I made the trip to the dealership. Once I arrived, the pricing was nowhere near what had been discussed. However, the pricing issue was not the worst part. During my time there, I heard monkey noises being made and the N-word used in my presence. I am a Black woman. There is no misunderstanding or "miscommunication" about what that means. It was racially offensive, degrading, and completely unacceptable in any professional environment. No customer -- regardless of race -- should ever experience that kind of behavior while attempting to make a major financial purchase. Management later contacted me and offered a revised price of $20,895.30. By that point, the issue was no longer about numbers. Bait and switch tactic. Called to confirm if the online price with discounts will be honored and drove an hour away. When I arrived they told me to qualify for the discounts you need to be a military vet, new graduate, and a first responder all at the same time. When I brought up this unethical practice they started to go into their terms and conditions expecting customers to see and read this. Would avoid this dealer for their unethical tactics and will be reporting this to Better Business Bureau. After 5 hours at the dealership finally closed on a deal, and it was the most exhausting car buying experience ever. They are either completely incompetent or they are trying to squeeze as much cash out of you as possible. This is worst experience I've ever had at a service center. They actually broke my car and refused to fix their damage. I brought my car in with an electrical issue and a stuck fuel gauge. They couldn't figure out what the electrical issue was, but said the fuel gauge issue was due to a faulty fuel sensor from overfilling the tank. I agreed to the fuel sensor repair and was forced to agree to another service or pay a $185.00 check out charge. I ended up paying $1,013.89 on the repairs. They accessed the fuel sensor from the interior of the vehicle under the rear seat. When I picked up the car it smelled of gas, which I thought was due to them spilling gas. The check engine light came on the next day with a P0456 code which is an evap leak, which they recommended I tighten the gas cap and drive a while. The check engine light never went off and I had to bring the car back in to have them check their work, because the fuel system was not pressurizing. When they ran diagnostics they said it had nothing to do with the work they performed and it was a faulty 02 sensor and a bad catalytic converter which would cost $3,581.69. They refused to even look at the work that they just performed. I refused the work and was told I could come pick up my car. After driving the car for a little while with a horrible gas smell in the cabin I was forced to take it to another mechanic. They ran a smoke test on the evap system and found a leak where Big Star accessed the fuel tank. The Hyundai technician bent a lock ring that caused the cap to not seal. They broke my car while repairing one thing and refused to even look at their work. I ended up having to spend an additional $530.88 to correct the damage they cause. I contacted corporate, but they couldn't help me, because I took my car to a private mechanic before I contacted them. Do not take your car to Big Star! They are crooks! read more

I purchased a 2025 Hyundai Santa Fe that was listed and documented as "new" with 3 miles. After signing, I found out the car actually had nearly 5,000 miles. When I questioned it, the salesperson admitted they "always put 3 miles" on the form and claimed it was part of the discount -- but none of that was disclosed ahead of time. I gave both the dealership and Hyundai corporate a chance to respond. They ignored me. EXTREMELY DISHONEST DEALERSHIP! I was interested in buying a new 2025 Tucson and negotiated over several days by text, email and phone. Their website showed they had 21 new 2025 Tucsons on their lot. The salesperson, Tim, was only concerned about me coming into this office even though I explained I lived 4+ hours away so I wanted to make sure everything pricewise was in writing. I gave Tim the stock # and VIN of the vehicle I was ready to buy and all Tim kept saying was, when are you coming in. Once the numbers, including TT&L was all in writing, and Tim stated in writing, "looks good to me", I packed quickly and made the drive from Corpus Christi, TX to Friendswood, TX on Wed Dec. 3rd. 2.5 hours into my trip to the dealership, at my request, my brother drove to the dealership to ensure my chosen vehicle didn't have any dings, dents, etc. so when I arrived I could sign quickly and get back to Corpus. When my brother arrived at Big Star, he was told they don't have any 2025 Tucsons remaining, despite the fact they were still advertising my chosen vehicle and 20 others. Tim called me again a couple days later and asked me when I can come into his office and make the deal on a 2026 which I told him was a bait and switch tactic and I would not be doing business with Big Star. Then he told me they sold all their 2025's over the prior weekend even though he was negotiating on a 2025 a few hours earlier after I had given him the stock number and VIN for a specific 2025 Tuscon. If I could give this place 0 stars I would. I drove over an hour each way so I could look at a 2025 Camry SE. This was the closest place that had the trim I wanted at a decent mileage and I was willing to put down a hefty amount with a trade in. I don't know if it was because I was black or a woman or a black woman, but the way I was treated while negotiating a car is appalling. The employees there attempted to coerce me into signing a paper stating "This is to just show my manager your commitment to get the price and APR down where you want it to be." and "This is an unofficial signature so you aren't signing anything technically.". As someone who knows contract law, it's evident how that makes no sense. I argued with the employee for over 10 minutes, having to call someone in between because it was getting so heated, over how I wasn't going to sign anything until they showed me the correct numbers that my monthly payment should have been (because they thought I couldn't do math and calculate my APR and monthly payment which they also withheld and lied about) and the appropriate amount for my trade in. They then got another employee who told me that they could take off the warranty that I said no to multiple times, if I agreed to a higher monthly payment. (Which is illegal by the way) Again treating me as if I'm unintelligent and don't know how to do math. If you can, go ANYWHERE else other than here. I found a vehicle that I liked. I called the dealership and spoke to Nate to make sure the vehicle was still there. When I arrived ed to the dealership I met with Nate to drive the vehicle. The truck had a few minor issues that I requested to be taken care of. The dealer did this and worked with me to make me feel comfortable with the purchase. I met the General Manager who was very nice and pleasant. The dealership was clean and bright. They have a customer waiting area and offer free coffee, soda and waters. Nate was very polite and respectful. If you are in the market for a car I would highly recommend you check with this dealership. I am also an out of state buyer so it took a few extra minutes to make sure everything was correct for my State of Kentucky. To say I am dissatisfied with Hyundai is an understatement. I didn't buy this SUV with intentions of having to trade it in at 70,000 miles. We prepaid for oil changes and got our first one only a few months ago. Brought it in a couple of days ago, only to be told that it's leaking tons of oil and it would be thousands upon thousands of dollars just for them to assess the issue. They Told us that they could not refund the oil change money that we prepaid and refused to work with us. The manager never called us back and wasn't available to speak with during our time of visit. Upon researching further, this seems to be a serious complaint amongst Hyundai drivers. I cannot stress this enough to the consumer... This was the second Hyundai I purchased and my second biggest mistake. We just traded it in and got a Ford and are still in the hole for all of the prepaid services that we purchased for this Hyundai that we will never see the money for. He presented the deal listing 2 other items adding $3,600 ish for the Protection coating and security package......and $2,400 get ready. We freaked out for sure. Too many other shady issues to write. Edit: updated to 1 star, would give a zero if I could. GM replied below, and I reached out to him, with no response. As you can see, they don't give a crap about you at Any point of the sale. I will tell everyone I know not to go to Big Star Hyundai unless the fix this situation. We are happy with the car they sold us and our salesman was accommodating. I took our car in for our first service after purchase. And come to find out it had 2 open recall campaigns that Big Star Hyundai should have taken care of before sale, they should have also done all the 30K services that the vehicle required at the time.
