After years, I tried to give VI another chance. I was coldly greeted by Missy who took us to our table. She didn't say a word to us and just set the menus on the table and walked away. No refills. My breakfast potatoes and biscuit were cold. No one ever asked how things were going. In fact, when she dropped off the food, she dropped off the bill and that was the end of her. When we went to check out the check out girl didn't say anything just motioned for the check. No greeting. Bad experience. Our flight was delayed so we came here for breakfast because our family that live here LOVE it. *memo to me: 80 year olds have a way different idea of what good food is ugh * We had the multi grain banana nut waffles - meh, country potatoes - way too much salt so not many eaten and don't "country potatoes" usually have onions and peppers??? There was nothing but a ton of salt and the potatoes. Also had hash browns - they were ok, eggs Benedict - not enough sauce and not flavorful but the ham slab was good, buttermilk pancakes were good. The food was not good overall. Our server however was fantastic. There just isn't any real good food in Republic or Springfield, MO but we will continue our search for it when we visit again next summer...ugh read more

The breakfast is always amazing but watching the employees work together as team was impressive. It was quite busy but as soon as a people got up to leave, the table was cleaned and ready for customers within a few minutes. Service was great. Ms. Aubrey took care of me, and even with such a complicated order she did not mind the hassle at all. The restaurant wasn't busy, there were only a few tables taken when I came in. I did have to wait a minute once I sat down, it seemed like the servers were switching shifts so even though I made eye contact with a few, it took a good 5 minutes to be greeted. The food was very good and came out hot. The section I was sat in was very clean, from the floors to the fills. My fiancee' and I went here for dinner tonight. The food was fine, but it seems like they still have a lot of work to do as a staff. First the good: - We went on Mother's day ~4:30 and were able to sit down right away. - The place had a nice layout and done in the typical Village Inn decor. - We were first seated at the back of the restaurant. They had the back door opened w/ a fan to clear out what I was told was smoke from one of the toasters. It wound up being a bit cold so we asked to be moved which they did w/o a problem. - They got creative w/ the menu. Most of it is typical diner type food, but we both got the V.I.B. where you pick 4+ items. I like this idea since it allows to try a variety of items on the menu. Now the not-so-good: - The order got all botched up. Like I said we both ordered the V.I.B. My plate had some extra eggs on it (good). But my she got short-changed on her eggs (bad). They gave her extra bacon on her plate (good) but also only gave her 1 slice of toast (bad). Not sure if the toast is supposed to be only 1 slice. If it is then that's a bit of a rip-off in my opinion. They rang up the order incorrectly which wound up coming out in our favor (good) but as soon as we were done eating she didn't feel good and we had to home right away (bad). Didn't even get a chance to enjoy the French Silk Pie (very bad). Overall I think this place will be OK once they sh*t together. They've only been open for a few weeks and look like they are going through some growing pains with the staff. I wouldn't expect this though from a place that already has a few established locations. I'm sure we will go back and hopefully things turn out better because it would be great to have a good restaurant in Republic to go to. read more

I've been there several times, as a aficionado of the VI in south Springfield I could not resist having a brand new restaurant close to home. It's evident that they have big trouble adjusting and creating a working team: the kitchen mistake the orders, the waitress don't know what goes with each speciality plate. I was expecting something better, maybe some cook or waiter from the older place to lead the new people, but instead we, the customer, are the beta tester or this place. I will go again giving them one more chance, but so far I never got exactly what I ordered and cooked as I asked. read more

A lot has changed here since March 2016. The quality of the food has noticeably declined. The salads have fewer fresh vegetables in them and the lettuce is mostly iceberg now and not nearly as fresh. The fish and chips used to be nice white fish filets, now it looks like frozen fish portions with heavy breading. The pot roast dinner used to have a flavorful gravy, now it is drowned in too much what tastes like canned gravy, very salty and way to thick. These observations are from three separate dining experiences. I won't be going back soon. read more

The restaurant itself is well kept for the most part and staff there was friendly but service was very unacceptable. It there was 3 tables total and took us over 30 minutes to get our food. We had to ask a hostess to help us out. After our meal I asked for a drink to go as long as a side to take home. Another 20 minutes went by before seeing our waitress again. WOW! Is all I can think of when reading these poor reviews. I do not get it!! My wife and I live near this place and my wife is a waitress at another restaurant NOT this place and she is a darn good one. My self I am a Hamburger freak. All new places I go I try there burgers. This place has the BEST darn burgers I have had at any other place around! The meat is fresh it was so hot when served it burned my mouth! That is fresh! Very tasty and infact so good I had to say something to the management. As for the other food my wife knows good service and good food she likes there food also. I told my relatives about the place they tried it and have been back 2 times. They drive up from Aurora! Myself and the wife just got back today from are 3rd trip there! THE MAIN THING I KNOW IS Hamburgers! Get the double cheeseburger with double swiss and bacon with onion rings on top and thousand island dressing! This thing melts in your mouth and I never write reviews but felt the need to tell others if you like a good burger give this place a try! When I read these other plain jain to poor reviews I just don't get it? Maybe they did have problems when they first opened as we did not try the place until just about a month ago around April 1st 2014. So all I can think of is if you had bad service or food when they first opened give them another try. Because I know my Burgers and they don't get anymore Homemade tasting and fresh then at this place. Also I should mention the waitress was very nice both times we went and the manager also very nice. I even talked to the cook to tell him how good that darn burger was. Remember the Double with Thousand island! My family and I have been there a little over 5 times now. Each and every time we go the service is just bad. We have to flag someone down for paper towels, we have to flag someone down for refills. We went there yesterday against my better judgement and stood in the doorway for 8 minutes!!!!!! We saw a waitress who looked at us and tended her table. We saw someone else pull out a hand vac and clean up a mess who also saw us. No it wasn't packed, there were 4 tables being used total, there is no excuse to have a customer waiting over 8 minutes to be seated. This was the final straw, although the food is "ok" we will never be going there again and will be telling our friends and family the same thing, until they hire some new help who know what it is to take care of their customers so they become returning customers that place will suffer. We've eaten at Village Inn probably 10 times in the last year. I'll review the last experience. We had a group of 6 that went for dinner. They weren't busy, but it seemed like it was a little slow on the service side. Drinks didn't get refilled, there was a heavy delay in getting some condiments and while it wasn't the slowest service we've experienced, it was a bit disappointing based on how busy they appeared. I believe there were only 6 or 7 other tables with bodies at them in the entire restaurant. I typically order the roast beef (au jus), which is decent and treats me well on most of my visits. On this particular visit, they had a special running on burgers, fries and pie. Since pie was the real reason for the visit, this fit the bill. Shockingly, I had a low bar for the burger. While my expectations ran low, the burger was surprisingly good. The bun was fresh, the meat was cooked well, the dressing for the burger were spot on and everything seemed good. The fries were average to sub average greesy spoon fries. We had 4 of our party order the burgers and we all were in agreement that it met and exceeded our expectations. I think most of us had the triple berry pie for dessert (my favorite from VI) and it was great. This pie is by far my favorite. One in our group had the apple pie and stated that something wasn't right with it (not sure if the crust was under cooked or if the apples weren't fresh). I was offered a taste, but when they said "something isn't right", I knew better than to stick my fork in it. All in all....it's not a bad place for a bite (Wednesday's are free pie night with an entree purchase). As long as you view it as a greasy spoon and not a fine dining experience, I think it's worth the trip. I'm certain that we've had better service than the last trip in (and it probably would've obtained 4 stars, had that been in check). read more

Went on Thanksgiving for a meal with my two sons. Apparently everything there is package food. No home cooking unless you call cooking potatoes in Soybean oil which has the same side effects as msg good. Nothing in the place didn't have MSG. When i finally said could you not fix a skillet breakfast for my son who is highly allergic I was told no because of the soybean oil. Then they said we could fix him a salad. Excuse me what happened to being able to fix a cooked meal without pulling it either out of the freezer or opening a package. The gravy is a mix the bread there has msg. Nothing there did not have it. So beware. When they suggested the salad we got up and walked out but not before telling them we would never be back. I have patronize Village Inn for over eight years, from Ozark to Springfield and now Republic. Within the last year the quality and quantity of food presented in Republic is short of the standard you get what you pay for. I know the two brothers that help their dad run the business and have spoke to both of them concerning this problem. But tonight experience left me with a feeling, "I am not going back again". I left feeling very disappointed and discourage, a place I use to compliment and recommend to friends and family. Needless to say like most places they start out offering value for what you pay for, only to change later. I want so much for this restaurant to succeed, but unless they make some changes, I don't see it happening. The service is sooooooo slow. It's as if none of the wait staff has ever worked in the business before. The food is decent, but the last time we ate there, the whipped cream pie topping was not sweet at all! I mean, that's why you get pie, right? For the sweetness? We also tried to order crepes, which are featured prominently on their menu, but were told the only person who knows how to make them wasn't working that day. Really? No one seems to know what section they are supposed to wait on and I see the servers carrying around trays of food because they're not sure where to deliver them. We were two of maybe half a dozen diners in the restaurant, and we waited about 30 minutes for a sandwich and a waffle. Really hope they get it together soon. Not only is this a poor restaurant that will likely be closed by the end of the year, but Village Inn is a corporation that treats its staff like cattle. I worked at the Republic, MO location for a short time. I always arrived to work on time, did my job as requested, and treated my coworkers and customers with respect. Other employees, however, stole food from the kitchen, text messaged on their cell phone throughout the shift (IN FRONT OF MANAGEMENT AND SUPERVISORS), and loudly discussed hating their job in front of (and sometimes WITH) customers. One day, I went into work and was told I was not on the schedule for the following week. I was not given a reason as to why. Most of the other employees at this restaurant are in high school, and when the restaurant is lucky enough to hire someone older who has restaurant experience, they lay them off. Considering that there are multiple Village Inns in the area (Glenstone and Campbell in Springfield, as well as Ozark), the least the corporation could do is try and transfer employees to another location. I understand that new restaurants often over-hire, but considering the incompetence displayed by some of my coworkers, you would think the restaurant would keep the employees that did their job the RIGHT way.
