GET THE RIBS! There were five of us and two ordered ribs. We definitely had the best thing on the menu. Two others ordered a chopped steak sandwich and said it was unfortunately not good and seemed to be grizzly bits of meat, so they sent it back. The staff was so kind and quickly put in another option for them. Another person got a steak and loved it! A gastropub type environment with ample seating both inside and out for small or larger groups. We were seated quickly outside despite being super busy, and our server was prompt and attentive. We noticed several patrons were obviously regulars by how they knew servers and others, which in my opinion is always a good sign...meaning they come back more than once! They have a variety of food options and their Idaho nachos are a huge portion and delicious. We also loved their Greek salad and would recommend it. Everyone in our party loved their food and were also reading about their thick cut fries. I had an okay experience. Would not recommend if you have food allergies or sensitivities. Service could have been way better. I had seen that others with gluten sensitivities had good experiences - but that was not the case with me. No gluten free menu and nothing to denote what could be safe for sensitivities. I asked the waiter if a specific dish was gluten free, and got a simple "I don't know" - better than guessing, but no offer to ask the chef or figure out more information on the dish or any recommendations. I ended up ordering a salad - specifying no croutons or anything of the like - and when it came out there were crackers on the bowl. Luckily they were wrapped, but still very frustrating. We decided to meet in Greenwood to celebrate a family birthday and decided to do Oaken Barrel and catch The I U final game. There was plenty of available parking and we got seated right away for a party of 6 even though they don't do reservations. Our server Julie did a great job of taking orders in a timely manner and staying attentive to needs throughout the meal. The table shared pretzel sticks and a plate of wings. The wings were some of the best I've ever had and the pretzels were tasty. I had a Greek pizza. Had to get a 10" since they don't do 7" anymore. Leftover pizza is fine. It was a good pizza. My husband had the mile high Reuben and said it was good. He loved the homemade potato chips. The table shared a lava cake and strawberry cake slice and they were yummy. They do not take reservations so we had a 30 minute wait on a Friday night. It was very busy but the staff was efficient and we were seated and served promptly. My tenderloin sandwich was meaty and lightly breaded. I also enjoyed the black bean soup with just the right amount of spice. We usually have a good meal at Oaken Barrel & the staff is always very courteous & nice however, our Father's Day meal wasn't up to standard. I ordered the fish and it arrived over cooked, almost burnt. Mt wife's Greek Pizza was also burnt. Fish left in fryer too long & pizza in the oven too long. The pizza was tasteless in my wife's opinion, she had two pieces and found it awful. I ate one piece of my fish but decided not to finish it. Normally, we would have sent the food back however, we were guests of my daughter and didn't want to create any drama. Meh. I've lived on the Southside for a long time and finally made it here to a Greenwood staple. Food was fine, service was very friendly and helpful. The place needs to be spruced up. It's outdated and worse for the wear. There are holes in the wall where old TVs have been taken down, surfaces were dusty. We were seated in the bar in a booth for two and it was the most uncomfortable seating I've ever experienced. The booths are wooden and look homemade and have all kind of weird angles and edges. Very odd. The buffalo chicken wrap was pretty good, but weird to have shredded cheddar in it. The onion rings were nice and crispy. Hubs got an open faced BBQ sandwich and said it was okay. Underwhelmed but if someone else invited me, I wouldn't object but wouldn't sit in a wooden booth lol. read more

Went here for the first time to celebrate a friend, and wow! The food was great!! We only got appetizers and desserts but the portions were great for the price. Our table personally loved the Strawberry Short Sheetcake. The slice was massive. I recommend ordering this specific item - I'll probably come back just for this cake alone (and I'm not naturally a sweets person), that's how amazing it was. If you do order the cake, ask for extra strawberry sauce. It's the best part ;) I also have a service dog and am happy to report this place was very accommodating. Why have I been sleeping on Oaken Barrel for years? I forgot about how delicious the food is here. Everything I've ever gotten was delicious. The tenderloin, the steak, the appetizers and of course the delicious and comforting pot roast. They are tucked away in a corner of a strip, it can be easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for. Oaken Barrel opened 29 years ago as a brew pub. If you sit in the bar area there are windows to the brewing floor when you can spy humongous brewing tanks. It's a really cool place with great food. I won't forget about them again! read more

We were seated in Jens section in the bar ordered an appetizer and noticed after about 25 minutes people who came in after were being served their meals. When hubby inquired with Jen she snapped..no apology...its in. Never had bad service there before. We were ignored from the time we were seated. Very bizarre. I have always wanted to try this place. It's a little hidden in the corner of the business park but looks very cool from the street. It's very cozy inside just as it looks like it would be. They have a fairly eclectic menu, mostly bar food with a couple surprising additions like pasta, pot roast, and étouffée. Everything sounded good but I decided on a Buffalo chicken wrap and my mom and brother both got a breaded tenderloin. We also split an order of the pretzels. The beer mustard was soo good. The Buffalo chicken wrap was good too and the fries were crispy skin-on steak fries. The staff were friendly but it was fairly busy in a Sunday around 11. In addition to their regular Black Bean soup they were offering Cuban Chicken and Rice soup. I ordered a bowl of the Cuban and a root beer. What stands out most to me is the PRICES. WOW. With the mess restaurants and food, establishments have been in the past couple of years, (supply change and labor shortages) I was pretty surprised by the low prices on the menu. Almost everything is $8-$13! We ordered three appetizers to share. We got the Bavarian pretzel sticks, Idaho nachos, & Kwangs dynamite shrimp. They were all solid and again priced extremely well. Everyone enjoyed them. For my meal, I decided to get one of the most expensive items on the menu the Filet Frommagio: ($21.95!?) Three 3oz. filets, mushrooms, blue cheese crumbles, and a choice of a side. I got the vegetable of the day, asparagus. I asked for extra blue cheese and was not disappointed. I asked for medium-rare. It was cooked a bit more than that, but the filets were very tender and I still enjoyed them. Not quite a steakhouse experience but well executed clearly for the price. On the plus side, they have beer! So we snagged one while we waited. We waited around 45 minutes (which is what we were quoted) and grabbed a table. Even though it was busy, our server was on it! She was prompt, friendly, and our food came out correct. I had the steak sandwich and fries. Pro tip- get their cheese sauce because it is so delicious with the fries! Sandwich was great and hot. Terrible service! We've been going to Oaken Barrel for about 3 yrs now. Tonight service was terrible. We ordered our appetizer, chips and bacon dip. After waiting for 25 minutes, the bar tender/waitress Jen wanted to take our order. I asked where our appetizer was, she replied it's been put in. I told her that people who have came in behind us have already received their food. All she would say is "it's been put in" (rudely). I told her we would wait until our chips showed up. Fine was her reply and walked away. I told the manager to have them box our appetizer up we will be leaving. The amazing thing is the chips showed up 5 minutes after I told the manager to box them up to go. They usually take 5-10 minutes normally. The Cajun Steak Bites were supposed to be tenderloin, but they were completely inedible. I ordered them medium and they were so tough I actually couldn't eat them - just total gristle and poor quality beef. My husband ordered a burger that had absolutely zero flavor. No seasoning, poorly cooked and totally dried out. We both left less than half eaten plates. The only reason I'm giving two stars is because he did actually enjoy their IPA and we had no complaints on the service.
