I went with the Cajun shrimp, ultimate salmon, and hot night. The rolls themselves were flavorful and honestly hit the spot. Nothing mind-blowing, but definitely satisfying if you're craving sushi. The one thing that stood out (not in a good way) was the imitation crab. It tasted like it had been previously frozen... kind of cold, a little dry, and not that soft, fresh texture you'd hope for. Price-wise, it ended up being a little over $30 with tip, which breaks down to about $10 per roll (6 pieces each). That felt a bit on the higher side for the quality, but I will say I couldn't even finish everything because it was pretty filling. For one person, it's a decent amount of food, but I think this deal would be even better if you split it with someone so you can try a few things without overordering. Atmosphere was chill, nothing special but comfortable. Service was actually a highlight. My waitress was really attentive and kept checking in, which I appreciated. The space itself it cute, about 10 tables plus the counter seating so it's a more intimate vibe. I ordered a sashimi platter that had about 7 offerings and an order of salmon nigiri. The salmon across the board was great, there was a white fish, texture like a very firm scallop, which was also very good, unfortunately that is where it stopped. I ordered the dinner box and picked the spicy tuna roll, sushi pieces, and sashimi pieces. The fish tasted a little off. I'm used to sushi that kind of melts in your mouth, but this fish felt tough not fresh. The fish to rice ratio on the sushi pieces were very off. It was a lot of rice. My friend ordered the bar special that they were offering where you choose three sushi rolls. I didn't try any of them, but they looked decent. We also ordered garlic spicy edamame and that was pretty good. The miso soup was also lacking in the flavor. My fave sushi spot in the AV! We had a really nice experience there today. We sat at the bar and ordered 2 orders of the 3-roll Bar Special. The orders were similar, but one roll was different for one order. When they served it, they gave us the same order for both. I pointed out that we ordered the Blue Maki roll instead of the Baked Salmon. We said that it was fine, but the guy that took our order insisted that they make the missing Blue Maki roll for us. A corner location with a quaint interior. Upon arrival on a weekend we were warmly welcomed by staff. We sat at the bar with enough seats to accommodate our group of five for lunch. Took advantage of the bar only sushi special three rolls (18 pieces) for $21.99 during the week or $24.99 on the weekends. Also ordered ramen and bento boxes. We family styled these choices and still had left overs to take home. Serving sizes are substantial and tasty. The char on the meats were a nice change of pace compared to other places we've tried in the area. Sushi and bento items were complimentary to the Ramen which was fulfilling. I came in alone and sat at the bar to order the 3 sushi for $25. I understood that there were only two people working the front, but I waited about 15 minutes for my miso soup and water. I eventually had to ask a waiter if I was going to receive them. Shortly after, another guest sat next to me and was immediately given water, ginger, and wasabi--items I never received btw. He was served right away, while I was not. What bothered me most was that I was given my check without even asking for it. I'm usually a good tipper, but tonight the service did not reflect that. The staff only interacted with me three times: to take my order, deliver my food, and drop off the check. This was my first time dining alone, and unfortunately, the experience was ruined. I ate at blue maki on 7/16/25 and shortly after my boyfriend and I both became violently ill which resulted in me having to go to the ER a few days later. My lab test results came back positive for Campylobacter bacteria. Blue maki was the only thing that I ate that day so I am 100% positive that the fish I consumed was contaminated. This was by far the worst abdominal pain I have ever experienced in my life! 5 days of diarrhea, vomiting, body ache and feeling like my intestines were going to explode. I requested NO SEEDS as my husband has a medical condition with a seed allergy. The dynamite roll had seeds all over and for some reason instead of the usual seaweed paper it had a paper roll WITH seeds. Also Shumai and Gyoza were undercooked. Sunshine roll looked like a 5 year old made it with tiny slivers of mango. Called and asked for help and they would give me none. I never thought I would be writing this bad review for a great sushi place like this one. My fiancé and I have been coming here to share delicious sushi rolls for some time now and we always like to get the 3 roll special at the bar. The food is always delicious and other servers have been courteous to recommend this special for us to share. That wasn't the case today. We came in early and it was just my fiancé and I getting our usual. Excited to share and eat, as we were placing our order the server told us we couldn't share the 3 roll special. They recommended different offers which consist of us getting more food. We were stunned honestly and at one point we just wanted to leave. We ended up getting the 3 roll special and 2 miso soups. We finished the miso soups and then the rolls came in. I noticed immediately my wife wasn't eating with me and refused to take any part of the meal because the server kept looking over at her making my fiancé feel really uncomfortable and it ruined the nice peaceful vibe that we have came to love about this place. I felt uncomfortable eating without her so we decided to take the entire order to go. The server that was supposed to help us out didn't even get us the check, didn't provide even minimum service to refill our basic waters, didn't bother getting us a to go box and didn't even say "have a nice day" or anything. Not sure if she's new but definitely needs to be retrained and shown better. We will no longer be coming here until the service quality improves read more

Nice employees but average food. Rice was overcooked/ dried out/ beef teriyaki was rubbery. Goyza was average and could have come from a frozen box of goyza at the grocery store. The only things that tasted fresh were the side salad and soup. It seems to be worse since Harbour took it over. A word of advice, when you call for a to go order, they will say they will call you when it is ready but then you will wait an hour. Just go to the restaurant to pick it up. If you want really good sushi, the only place to go is Shogun off of Sierra Hwy near Palmdale Animal Control which has a more limited and traditional menu and also unfortunately limited hours and is more expensive, but worth it. Unfortunately, the AV is largely a food desert which is frustrating. This beat a fast food restaurant but not by much. I am sure their sushi might be better than their teriyaki. read more

I had a great first visit and dinner at bluemaki! Came by for the first time for dinner on a Thursday. They weren't too busy and we were sat right away (party of two). The restaurant is on the smaller side so I could predict there being a wait on a busier night. Greeted by a very pleasant and kind server. She brought out menus, advised us of the happy hour deal on beer and sake and took our drink order. She was very attentive throughout the meal and I appreciated her recommendations. We started with the edemame and an order of sushi unagi. The edemame was good - serving was decent and they were cooked well. The unagi was awesome! It came with a really savory sauce and the portion was much bigger than I expected. The unagi was so good and filling we ended up getting a second order. We split two of their specialty rolls: the Sugar Fish and the Tiger. The sugar fish was very fresh and light. It came with a thin soy/sesame sauce that was great! The roll also had a surprising spice kick. It was a great roll if you like the taste of tuna and salmon. The Tiger was even better! We're big fans of shrimp tempura rolls and this was spectacular. It was crispy and creamy on the inside with a nice bite on the shrimp on top. The sauce on this one was topped with serranos so I'd be a little careful if you're not a fan of spice. It was pretty easy to remove the serranos though to adjust the heat. This roll came with a shrimp tempura side as well. Overall I was very impressed with the size of the rolls. They were very generously rolled and called for two bites. The taste and freshness was spot on as well. The Resturant was well kept, clean and the service was great. I'm happy to have found a new sushi spot in the AV. read more
