Was my second time coming here today, my wife and I were looking for a place to eat that had breakfast/food options, and I'd actually forgotten about this place, but we passed it on the way into where we were headed. Decided to make a detour and come in after seeing the pastry counter again. Service was quick, food was amazing! A little on the pricey side, I think, but we did get what amounted to four entrées of different things... Breakfast sandwich, savory and sweet croissants, and a couple lattes. We came in pretty hungry apparently lol. Service was good, reasonably quick and very friendly. If there's anything to complain about, it's the parking situation but that's not their fault. I have been coming here for over 20 years over the SJ Jazz/Summer Fest. It's extremely convenient to come here for coffee after setting up your spot at 7am for the concert. Unfortunately each year Bijan is losing its appeal with me. The service is not as friendly or efficient. Today we ordered our coffees to enjoy in the cafe but received them in plastic cups. We requested real coffee cups but she insisted we ordered to go and refused to comply. The bakery items continue to look enticing. However this may be my last visit here. read more

Sadly the reason for the lower rating was that the items became limited or sold out, barely any variety and the cakes cost higher then it was 3 years ago. The sandwhich are amazing and so is the service but with this day of economic values, it is now a higher premium that I couldnt afford. Maybe it's my fault. Maybe I shouldn't show up to a bakery after 9pm. But everything was like Aubrey Plaza: beautiful but super dry. I hate to be so critical, especially because the place is a beautiful showcase for window shopping desserts (perfect for impressing dates or wooing grandkids), but I wasted my money and calories. I got a tongue cookie, which looked oily as it shone in the case. But it was dry, making it hard to distinguish the crispy and flaky from staleness. It was so hard to get down it should come with a running garden hose. I also got a very dry Napoleon. It was impossible to cut through with a fork and whatever cream was once in there must have evaporated or soaked through. Maybe it's called Napoleon because it fell short. read more

Service could be better, but where to order was a bit confusing. There's two registers is what it looks like,but one place to order which would be to the right. My friend and I were craving some baguettes after watching a show based on a story set in paris, so we stopped by! So many items to choose from! Was looking for a dessert and wasn't expecting to actually buy a baguette (lol), but they had a fresh batch that just came out so we bought it!! We came across this place today while walking around Christmas in the Park. We had never noticed it before. When we saw "European Bakery," we got curious and walked in even though we weren't hungry. I want to say this: I've tried éclairs in many places across America, and they were never the flavor or texture I was looking for. But the éclair we tried here was incredible. What I loved most was that even though it had a generous amount of filling, it wasn't overly sweet. In many American desserts, there's so much sugar that it numbs your palate and makes it hard to taste the actual flavor of the pastry. This one was surprisingly light and delicious. You could clearly taste the aroma and everything was beautifully balanced. I absolutely loved it. If I had been hungry, I would've tried more items. Moldy bread. That's what I found sitting right on the counter at Bijan Bakery & Café in San Jose. Absolutely disgusting. I decided to give this place a second chance after a bad experience before -- big mistake. The refrigerated cases were fogged up and dripping with moisture, which screams refrigeration problems and potential bacteria and mold growth. Not something you ever want to see where food is stored. I grabbed what looked like a wrapped iced cookie -- turns out it wasn't sealed, tasted stale, and was so hard it could break a tooth. One bite and threw that away. Then I spotted the "fresh" sweet bread with visible mold all over the bottom. At this point, it's beyond disappointing -- it's a health hazard. I have no idea how this place is still open. Someone from the health department really needs to take a look. read more

But we've come here a few times over the years to get some cookies, pastries, or dessert. They are known for their Princess Cake. Inside and outside dining available. Its a very casual place. Coffee was meh and the quiche was worse. They served it with a pickle and an orange . The place fails at the most basic level. Orange construction cones immediately when you walk through the door, holes in the ceiling, and I heard this loud incessant beeping behind the counter the entire time I was there. Really annoying. So basically the food was poor and the ambiance was terrible. Staff were friendly. I'm on the hunt for a better coffee shop. read more

This used to be one of my favorite bakeries for cookies (many moons ago), and on a good day it still is. Unfortunately, it's not always consistent or it feels like the cookies have sat out for days. My favorite cookies are the almond cookies and tea cookies. The almond cookies used to have a "macaron" texture being soft and slightly chewy on the on the inside. However, the last couples times that I've had it, it's been more crispy than chewy. I'm not sure if it's just old cookies or maybe they overbaked it, but it's not consistent. If I'm in the area though, then I would grab a ham & cheese croissant too. Their croissants are so flakey and tasty! Oh also, if you can avoid it, don't come during the holidays. It's SO busy. You have to take a number to even order, and I the wait can take 45 minutes before you can order anything. read more

I walked in to order, 2 employees kept talking and did not pay attention until I said I have waited to be served and you both kept talking. They did not have anyone to write the message on the cake today. They also charge 3% card service if you use credit card without letting you know before you paid or no where to be found in the store. I only found out when my card already charged and there's a notification. I asked and the 2 employees oh 3% charge for card service. I have only had one item from this bakery and it was EXCEPTIONAL. Their croissants are AMAZING; flaky and buttery and delicious. They are a perfect match for an espresso or, in my case, a good strong cup of black tea. I prefer their chocolate croissant because you get the best of the flaky layers and the dark, creaminess of the chocolate. It's not too sweet and it's not too much. It's literally a perfect balance. The price tag is a bit steep at $7.50/each but, considering the price of groceries and how excellent the croissant is, I will gladly pay it when I want a morning treat. They open at 7am and they don't bake mass quantities like a big box bakery. Get here early so you have a good selection of items. read more

Take a stroll down Paseo de San Antonio and stop by Bijan Bakery right before the historial table art installation. The bakery has many selections of delicious baked sweet goods. I don't think it's possible to just select one, hence why I left with a whole big box in a cute bag! The staff is friendly and welcoming. I didn't feel rushed to order. I ordered the tiramisu and while it was a decent cake, it was not tiramisu (it was a white cake with a buttercream frosting that had cocoa powder on it. No marscapone, no coffee flavor). I like the service, the staff is always nice and they will take the time to write on your cake or take orders for them. The bakery could use some renovating, I think it's very dark and the wooden case to showcase could be upgraded. I think they are very overpriced for what you get. I wish they had their prices be a little more reasonable, but in order to have some of these cakes, they're the only ones I know in the area that make cakes like this. I'm unsure why they got bad rating? I went to this place years ago and would love to come back because I absolutely love their princess cake. We bought coffee cake and biscotti on top of princess cake slice and I love everyone of them. They have nice seating area and they're pretty quiet so it's perfect place to work or study. The service was ok, the person assisted us very nicely without any issue. The only downside is finding parking. The croissants were really great. Light and buttery. We ordered the ham & cheese, Blueberry cheese, & cream cheese. Although they didn't offer to warm it up it was still quite tasty. Perfectly located by our hotel and conveniently located in downtown San Jose. I needed a cake for a friends birthday, so it was wonderful to just walk outside of your hotel and grab a cake for the occasion. I was slightly surprised that a small cake was 50 bucks, but considering California prices and the location I figured it's fine. The cake was going to be a surprise on an airplane because we're pilots and flight attendants, and we were going to wish a flight attendant happy birthday during flight. We don't travel with too many utensils so I asked them if the cake came with the cake cutter and they told me no. That was also a little bit of a surprise because usually when you purchase a cake they provide you one of those cheap cake cutters. We were going to share the cake with the Crew and maybe even some of the passengers and I asked for some forks and spoons and they told me that there was an extra charge. I've worked in the food and restaurant industry for many years, and I completely understand that each napkin and each toothpick in a restaurant setting adds to the cost and rent prices are astronomical right now, but if the price of couple of forks and spoons is not added into a $50 tiny cake that tasted somewhat mediocre and not anything spectacular was - so disappointing and while I was going to tell all of our flight attendants and crews on our social pages to visit this bakery because of their proximity, I'm telling everybody to avoid this business because if they can't provide you with couple of spoons and forks when you purchase a $50 cake - that is not a place where I'm going to leave my business or return to. Additionally, when I asked them for a bag to carry the cake, they gave me a tiny plastic bag, and if you know how a cake comes, it comes in a square box with sharp edges, which would rip a plastic bag instantly, and the fact that they don't have sturdy paper bags to carry out their cake cakes is another reason why I would not return. Service was painfully slow, and there were many people in line and only one woman helping them and leaving the register all the time to make sandwiches or prepare other items while other customers waited in line wondering if there's anyone on the premises. Getting through the line can be a little unpredictable time wise when they're busy as DoorDash orders seem to trump in store customers to some degree. But when it's not busy you can get in and out pretty quickly. Didn't try any coffee drinks. We also just did take out, though you could eat there or outside and it looks to have a pleasant atmosphere to enjoy your food. Love the location of this place! The outdoor seating area provides ample space and a nice view of the city. Ordering was a bit chaotic as you are supposed to choose a number but there's not clear signage to say that so if you aren't a regular customer it can be confusing. This is my go to spot for a little post dinner dessert. They have the best cakes! The mango mousse and pistachio mousse is SO good. My family and I love ordering one of their mousse's and enjoying it after dinner. It has the perfect touch of sweetness without being overwhelmingly sweet.
