Tres leches, chocolate mousse
Luisina H.

I ordered the smaller tres leches cake. The design wasn't 100% what I was expecting, but I understand since tres leches can be harder to work with. The flavor was really good, not too sweet, and the cake was super moist. The chocolate mousse also wasn't too sweet, which we really liked!

First birthday cake and smash cake.

Flavor quality and aesthetics on point! Exactly what I asked for. the sprinkles and the cones were supplied by me because they didn't have what I wanted. The price was a deal and the flavor was great!

There are so many delicious baked goods to choose from at a great price! I picked out so many treats, including pan dulce, little cakes, and honestly stuff I don't know the name of they just looked tasty. Every one was a sweet treat and went well with my morning coffee. Would highly recommend if you're in the area to drop by. Service was easy, just pointed to the ones I wanted and got them right away to go. No seating inside.

Cream cheese bun

Came here on a Wednesday afternoon for my boyfriend's birthday and there was no line. The bakery was pretty big and everything looked delicious! There were 3 types of tres leche cake to choose from so we picked the caramel tres leche cake and a cream cheese bun. The tres leche cake was one of the best I've ever had and I normally don't like tres leche! It was super sweet and moist with the perfect amount of frosting and caramel drizzle. The cream cheese bun was a bit disappointing as it wasn't actually cream cheese but a lighter version of whipped cream? The bread was also pretty dry and wasn't warmed up. Overall, I would definitely recommend the tres leche cake and would come back to try the other flavors!

Ordered tres leches cake for my boyfriend. He loved it. Very well made and tasty!!. Milk was oozing out the bottom it was so full!

($59) 8" fresh strawberry tres leches cake, but it was more like 12" in pink ombré.

Ordered a fresh strawberry tres leches cake a day before pickup. It was $59 for an 8" round cake but it looked like a 12" round cake! There were about 10 adults and 6 kids and we only finished half the cake. The cake was very good and not too sweet. Unfortunately, they didn't have a proper box for the cake and had to staple some boxes together and one part of the box was a bit soggy from the trek from SJ to San Mateo. I had to carefully place it in a big plastic bag to bring it to Pacifica, which is where the pic was taken. My friend, whom hates tres leches cake and whose wife loves tres leches cakes, actually liked this one. I think this says a lot! I'd definitely come back for their tres leches cake. When you place your order, you can text them pictures of the cake design you're looking for and they'll tell you if it's possible or not. I ended up choosing a similar design to a fellow Yelper's pic just for convenience. It turned out as expected and birthday girl thought it was beautiful. Their chocoflan cake was very meh...not like Mexico Bakery's. Would pass on that. Also tried their horchata pudding and caramel pudding, which were more like gelatin. These were both good and not too sweet. Just don't expect pudding. Wouldn't mind getting these again but would opt to try something different if I'm in the area again.

Caramel tres leches cake was so good. 8 inch round was enough to feed a party of 15! Very flavorful. Easy to order and pick up.

They're best known for their famous Burnt Almond Cake, though they also offer a variety of other pastries. Personally, I come here just for the cake. They sell it by the slice or cupcakes, and they also have whole cakes ready to go. If you're looking for a custom cake, though, be sure to place your order in advance. Whenever I'm in the area, I always stop by to pick up a few cakes to bring home for my family, but I can probably eat a whole cake to myself lol. Their prices are still surprisingly reasonable, which makes it even more worth the trip.

We ended up getting three burnt almond cake slices (2 vanilla 1 chocolate) and some brownies. The brownies were pretty good, balanced sweetness and chocolate flavor without being overwhelmingly sweet and I enjoyed the walnuts, but it was a very fudge like texture and I prefer my brownies to be slightly more cake-y and airy. If you like fudge brownies you'd like these. My issue was the burnt almond cake, both vanilla slices were on the dry side. The chocolate slice had a hint of chocolate otherwise tasted exactly the same. The almonds and cream were fine, I would've preferred stronger almond flavor. Was meh. Price is good at $5 for a hefty slice. If I'm in the area maybe I'd go back, otherwise it was about the same as a Safeway cake slice.

We didn't go overly sweet because it was the morning, but I would love to come back in the afternoon to have a nice sweet treat and a cappuccino. For my family of three we definitely got over excited in order too much, but each bite was delicious. We got a leek quiche, a banana latte, spinach, artichoke danish, mango croissant, almond croissant, and a ham and cheese croissant. I was trying to increase the protein to not spike my blood sugar. Lol. I'd have to say the mango and the almond croissant were probably my favorite. The strong second would definitely be the artichoke and spinach croissant danish thing. Sorry, I forgot what they called it. They offered to heat it up a bit and I definitely recommend this. They did the perfect temperature for the perfect timing. Just enough to make the outside flaky and the inside warm and soft. The pieces that had cheeses were so much better warmed up. They definitely know what they're doing there. Seating was great. I'd love the decor. You can also order off of a menu, but we were too enamored with the actual pastries to even glance at it. I took photos but made sure to not take photos of the staff. I let the staff know that I wouldn't include their faces without their permission. they were very friendly and very appreciative. My family loved your little shop and we will definitely be back when we're in the area.

This would be a great place to have a small relaxing breakfast. There are several places inside to enjoy your goodies. Both desserts, that I purchased, were so delicious. Each item was about $4-5 each. Service was fast and friendly Pastel de nata (4.5/5): I really enjoyed it, the crust was perfectly flaky and the egg filling was creamy! My only complaint is that there was a bit too much egg filling, compared to the crust, so the ratio was a bit off. I would come back for these! Wow! What an absolutely disappointment. As a Portuguese…read moreperson, I grew up on Pastel de Nata or what we call from our island Cajada de Nata. I was SOOOO sad and disappointed just by the appearance of them when arriving, they were all burnt! You can't tell me they are supposed to look like this because nowhere on their website or instagram to they advertise them with black tops. I purchase Pastel de Nata quite frequently from my local bakery in San Leandro and since we were finally in San Jose, I was SO excited at the opportunity to try new ones from this "popular bakery" and I'm confused on how these sell? I ordered 13 pastel de Nata (6 traditional & the remaining a mix of all the flavors they offer) I'd hope when packing my boxes they'd attempt to throw some in there that weren't burnt from the top but the pictures speak for themselves. The burnt top ruins the taste of the pastry itself. The filling to crust ratio isn't it. Needs more custard or a slightly thinner crust. Attaching photos for reference. We also arrived at 11am (1.5 hours after they opened) and there was literally only 1 malasada left, I'm so happy it happened to be dulce de leche which I wanted and purchased it. My husband, son, and I LOVED it! That's the reason for the 1 star (although I can't give less) I'd recommend they make more Malasadas and less Pastel de Nata to keep up with the demand, a couple families walked in after me and walked right out when they realized there weren't any in stock and they genuinely taste better then the Pastel de Nata, you can tell that's where the high ratings come from and why they are popular. Overall - would recommend 1000% skipping the pastel de Nata unfortunately it does not taste anything like the ones I've had before. Not a true reflection of what it should taste/look like. We made the drive super excited to finally come and try and ignore the reviews saying it wasn't the best just to confirm they were correct.

Customers usually come in, grab what they need, pay, and head out, which keeps things moving smoothly. One of the best things about this bakery is the incredible variety of pastries and breads. Clover Bakery & Cafe is a small Japanese-style bakery and café that feels like the kind of…read moreneighborhood spot you randomly discover and keep coming back to. We walked into a cozy, compact space with shelves filled with freshly baked breads, pastries, and prepared foods, all arranged in a way that makes you want to browse slowly even though the shop is small. The atmosphere has that simple, welcoming feel reminiscent of the small bakeries you find throughout Japan, focusing more on quality and variety than on a large café setup. Seating is limited, so it is better suited for grabbing something to go rather than spending a long time inside. The biggest draw here is the combination of Japanese baked goods and savory items. The bakery selection offers a great mix of sweet and savory options, with classics like melon pan standing out for its crisp sugary topping and soft interior that stays light without being dry. The curry bread and croquette bread are also popular choices, both feeling comforting and freshly made rather than overly sweet or greasy. The bakery items are reasonably priced, which makes it easy to pick up multiple things without feeling like you are spending too much, and the variety means there is always something new to try. The onigiri selection is what really makes Clover stand out compared to a typical bakery. They offer a variety of rice balls with fillings like spicy tuna, tuna mayo, and unagi, making it a great option for a quick breakfast or light meal. The rice is well balanced and the fillings give each onigiri a different personality. The spicy tuna has a nice kick that comes through without overpowering the rice, while the unagi adds a sweeter, more savory flavor that works especially well with the slightly salty rice. The onigiri are a practical, satisfying choice for anyone looking for something more substantial than a pastry. Beyond the baked goods and onigiri, Clover also has drinks, sandwiches, and desserts including cakes and other pastries. The strawberry cake is a nice lighter dessert option, and the overall menu gives plenty of reasons to visit whether you are looking for breakfast, a snack, or something to bring home. The offerings feel thoughtfully selected, with enough variety to cover different cravings without making the menu feel scattered. Service is friendly and efficient, and the small size of the shop adds to the charm. Since it has become a popular local spot, some items can sell out during busy hours, so arriving earlier gives you the best selection. Parking can also be a little challenging during peak times, but the quick grab-and-go style makes the visit easy to manage. Clover Bakery & Cafe is a great stop for anyone who enjoys Japanese bakeries. The combination of fresh breads, affordable prices, and unique savory options like onigiri makes it feel different from a standard bakery. It is the type of place where it is worth picking up a few items and trying a mix of everything, leaving you with the sense that you have found a little neighborhood gem that delivers on both quality and variety.

Found Izumi…read moreCakes on Yelp and was bummed at first because the soonest online reservation for a cake would be two days later. Husband called them around 11am and they said they were in the middle of making their strawberry cakes so they could add our order in for a same day pickup at 4pm. Pickup went well and the cake was so cute and it tasted great! Like the Chinese bakery strawberry cream cake with a moist sponge cake; not too sweet, just right. Might sound basic but it was done very well. Would 100% recommend. I don't know prices for cakes nowadays but I didn't feel bad paying about $60 for a cute and tasty cake (6", strawberry cream cake). I wouldn't bank on same day pickups, I might've just been very lucky they were in the middle of making their cakes but it wouldn't hurt to try calling early in the day if you're in a pinch for a solid cake. I'm very thankful for their service!

Finding parking isn't difficult…read morebut might take a minute on busy days, as it shares a parking lot with the rest of a popular plaza. The store itself is easy to find as well, with a clear label outside. Walking in, it looks half-closed--their cakes are all stored in a large refrigerator, with nothing in the case on the counter. There is a sign proclaiming "takeout only" in slight disarray, and the seating is pushed to the side. That said, the service is friendly and the employees are quick to help you and show you what they have in stock for takeout. I ordered the 4" Berry Berry Light Cake for a birthday, and they were able to write a birthday message on the cake board, which I really appreciated. The cake also tasted very light and the sweetness was subtle, which I really enjoyed. The berry flavor in the sponge was a little too subtle, though. My main concern is that the cake does not fully resemble the picture they advertised online. It is missing the freeze-dried berries on top, and the berry glaze did not reach as far down the cake as was shown in the photo. Because the berry glaze is the main source of the berry flavor, this was a little disappointing. Also, the cake was not finished when I came to pick up the cake (and I was ~5 minutes late). I'm uncertain if this is for freshness or if there is another reason. Overall, I like the spot for the fresh and light cake. It's pleasantly unique compared to your standard sheet cake, and everything is rather cute. However, it may be a better idea to buy the cakes in-person to be 100% sure of what it will look like, though daily stock is definitely more limited than if you place an order online. I hope they reopen their indoor seating soon.
