This place is absolutely hit or miss for me. Once, I came home with striped, not highlighted hair. Now, I have a good stylist. However, I cannot continue to afford the exorbitant and often hidden pricing or the time it takes to get this done. Today I went in for a touch up of my roots and highlights with a trim - I had just visited Bijou in mid-September, so I was expecting a shorter time in the salon. I also assumed this would be a much cheaper visit than my last one - the one in September was base color, new highlights and a cut for $260 (pre-gratuity), that took 3 hours to complete. My fee today was $240 for 2 1/2 hours time. I have never, ever paid that much (in Austin or Dallas) for "touch-ups" and a trim. When my hair was rinsed after color she said "I'm just gonna leave this glaze on there....." - wait, what?? Glaze? Did you ASK me if I wanted to spend the extra $25 for a glaze?? No. No you did not. This place is not affordable for me, so I'll have to start looking somewhere else - $300 every 6-8 weeks is not acceptable. read more

My boyfriend's hair has gotten really long and we decided he was due for a haircut. After looking through Yelp, we decided on Bijou and I made an appointment for 11:00 AM. Due to a traffic issue, we made it in at exactly 11:05 AM. We were told to wait for a little and we took a seat. At 11:30 AM, we asked the receptionist how much longer until we were gonna be seen and was told another 25 minutes EVEN THOUGH we had an appointment at 11:00 AM. DO NOT BOOK HERE PLEASEEE. We literally wasted half an hour just sitting here doing nothing at all. When we told the receptionist we were leaving, she was like well y'all were late. Being five minutes late due to a towing truck blocking the road apparently warrants our appointment to be pushed back by an hour. I repeat, do not go here. It's obviously gone down hill. read more

I have curly hair and the last salon I went to didn't cut enough layers for my hair to look round but I recently went to Bijou to ask to get it fixed and Cory did her thing! The haircut came out very even and more rounded, how I wanted. She also gave me tips on the haircut and how she was going to cut it since it was already short so I thought she was also very knowledgeable. A little pricey but it is worth the haircut you get out of it. Definitely recommend this place :) read more

This is pretty much the coolest salon in town. Back in the day, I made the mistake of becoming good friends with the hairdresser I had since I moved to Lubbock in 2000, and then we had a falling out. I won't bore you with the details. Sadly, I was put in the position of having to find a new hairdresser, which is just... terrible. Then I met Phaedra from Bijou at a going away party for a mutual friend. I went to her for my hair from that point until the time I left town. My mom goes to her, and my sister who lives in Austin has visited her a few times when she comes to visit. Aside from the fact that Phaedra rocks, the salon itself is nice, clean and very cool. They sell Aveda products, which I love, and the whole staff is very nice, friendly, and professional. I would suggest that if you're looking for a salon, don't bother trying any others, cause we all know how it feels to have a bad haircut or color stuck to your head until it grows out. Just visit Bijou. Phaedra and Carrie are great, but you could probably try any of them and be satisfied. Tell them I said hi! read more

I dyed my hair with semi-permanent blue dye in some sort of fugue state and could not get the color out in time for a professional conference I was attending. But Kristal saved the day! She is a color correction magician and managed to get ALL of the blue out while preserving the pretty ombré I had underneath it. AND she didn't even pass judgement on the blue mess I made of my hair. I've had long hair my whole life, nearly down to my waist. A few days ago I suddenly wanted a change and wanted to chop it off. I went in, not knowing what I wanted at all. I just booked an open slot, and the lady I got was incredible! She asked me all these questions and made suggestions based off my hair type and face shape. She was so attentive and overall just made it an incredible experience. I'm obsessed with my new hair and I will definitely be coming back. I got it washed, cut, and styled for $55. I'd like to first highly praise the stylist treating me today; Jennae Brown. Highly recommended to all my friends. I came to this salon needing a place to get my hair cut since I can't be headed back to Dallas anytime soon to do so. The place is very clean and homey. I walked in without expectation and without an appointment; which I highly recommend you do. I had a five minute wait and had the expectation of just getting a haircut and getting fixed up. My stylist was Jennae Brown, WHICH I HIGHLY RECOMMEND. She made me feel welcomed, listened to my concerns, and was very therapeutic to talk to. After receiving my haircut I realized she didn't have anyone else booked so I was in a good mood she had already put me in and decided to why not just dye my hair. I never tried it and why not go big. Jennae was terrific and answered all my concerns and questions about the procedure and my haircut and color turned out terrific. I highly recommend anyone coming to make an appointment with Jennae! She also gave me massages! Yes! Massages! Will be for sure coming here for my future haircuts! I've had my hair done by my hair wizard in Dallas for the past 10 years, but I was having a quarter-century life crisis and decided to get bangs for the first time since pre-K. After some light Insta stalking for her work, I decided to trust Krys with the big chop. She made sure we were on the exact same page before even picking up the scissors, and checked in with me every step of the way. Since I had no idea how much work goes into making bangs not look ridiculous (obviously very prepared), she gave me styling and product tips throughout my cut. I also didn't have anything other than a round brush at home, so Krys just gave me one of her combs so I wouldn't have to go out and buy one. As if all that weren't enough.. she offers free bang trims! AMAZING. It was my first time at an Aveda salon and I don't know what black magic goes into those products, but my hair was the softest/shiniest it's ever been for a good month after my cut; so much so that my friends commented on it. The $50 price tag is way steep for me as a broke student (I usually pay $35 at home), but I think it'd be worth it for major changes or if your hair needs a revamp from damage. The salon reminds me of places I'd find around Austin, and they offer you drinks right when you walk in. Can't recommend Bijou & Krys enough! read more

Originally from Dallas/Austin. I went to several places around Lubbock who completely butchered my hair before going to Bijou, and I am convinced that it is better than any salon in Dallas or Austin (and much less expensive). They're an Aveda concept salon, so they have Aveda products as well as other brands. For example, they're the ONLY salon I've found who will do a Wella "pastel" (lightens the base). The pastel makes all the difference - it brings my super dark roots up to match my blonde so it looks waaay more natural. I've had my hair done by Shelly, Madison, and Danny, and they have all done a superb job with my cut and highlights. I recently moved to Fort Worth, but I still drive back JUST to get my hair done at Bijou. That's how good they are. They close at 1:30 on Saturdays, but Danny stayed and meticulously worked on my hair until 4PM. I couldn't believe that! Highly recommend. read more

I went in to get my hair colored and it turned into a disaster. The salon was so dark that I didn't realize how horrible my hair looked until I got home. My hair was three different colors, the roots on my hair line didn't get colored, I had hot roots, and there was a section of hair that didn't get colored because it was under the towel when the color was applied to my hair. I went elsewhere to have a color correction. I called the owner of Bijou to get my money back but he wouldn't comply because I went somewhere else to get it fixed. I offered to show him the pictures of the bad color job but he didn't want to hear any more of what I had to say after I mentioned that I already had the color corrected. Needless to say, I will not go back to Bijou. I have told everyone about what happened and still have the pictures saved. read more

I had a 3 PM haircut appointment. I showed up at 2:50, checked in, and was asked if I wanted any water, which I declined. And I waited, and waited, and waited. At 3:20 my stylist finally came to get me. There was no explanation or apology given to me for the long wait. The haircut was fine, except she kept asking how "they normally do it"-- I'm trying out a new salon to get a new experience. For the price, I would anticipate someone putting at least a little product on my hair. I was really excited to try this salon, and I like my haircut, but I would not return. read more

The host/receptionist IS the first impression of any business. The person was unwelcoming. She asked for my name and who i had my appointment with and then just said ok. Not once did she say "have a seat it will be X minutes," or something to make me feel comfortable. (The unpleasant encounter continued after the appointment when it came time to pay but I won't even get into that.) Yesenia then came out and that experience alone was a 5 STAR. The only reason I will be returning to this salon is because of Yesenia. This salon doesn't live up to it's reviews and I would suggest anyone go elsewhere. The hairstylist knotted my hair and then brushed the knots she created for over an hour. Her methods showed a lack of experience working on humans and careless attitude toward clients. By the end of the service I wanted to burst into tears because she essentially hurt my for an extensive period of time. Although, I voiced my pain, she continued to whip my head and hair around. To top it all off, I was charged for a blow out that i didn't request nor approve. When I questioned the receptionist, he simply said it was too late. AVOID this place!
