Super roast beef on onion roll is the pride of the North Shore. I had to order Super because that's the biggest and its never enough (6 inches in diameter). I had them cut in half so it wouldn't be so messy. The beef to bun (BNB) ratio could have used a little more meat. I love the sweet and tangy James River BBQ sauce. Eat here, not there. We stopped here my partner had a hankering for a roast beef sandwich I indulged as well. You can't beat the super beef served on an onion roll about $7.50, you can add a drink and fries for a couple of bucks. The place is very clean, thin slicing of lean roast beef done at the time of the order. We had with the BBQ sauce. Lots of other options for food choices, salads, wraps, some fish. The beef itself is rare, tender, and nearly melts as you chew. A real umami experience. When I was younger I only used salt and pepper, but my preference has changed to sauce n' cheese. Bill n' Bob's uses a nice spicey barbecue sauce. Some people will get mayo for a three way, no thanks. The other reason I like getting a super beef is convenience. Roast beef takes hours to cook, but once done it just need's to be sliced and served. The staff (bless their hearts) are always pleasant. Was here last week for a quick bite before going to Far From The Tree Cider. Place looked like a converted Wendy's restaurant. There wasn't too many customers there so the service was really quick. In recent months, I've been coming here at least once every couple of weeks, because I'm up late and they're open late. Several other nearby late-night options have disappeared as many restaurants have cut their hours back during the pandemic, and that leaves Bill & Bob's as one of the only places where I can get a roast beef sandwich at 1 AM on a Saturday. That was the plan tonight. Before I even opened the door, I could hear indistinct yelling. Upon walking in, I immediately recognized the voice of the little troll woman* who works there late nights (you know, the one who looks and sounds like her life started going downhill HARD right after she failed to land that voice-acting gig on 'Rugrats'). Anyway, she was ranting loudly about someone she didn't like (it sounded like this may have been a customer, but full context was difficult to ascertain). In the space of probably about 30 seconds, I heard her drop 3 F-bombs. Now, I can handle foul language; anyone who knows me knows that. But it's still 100% unprofessional for an employee to talk like that, loudly, in front of customers. Yeah, even today. Still, I would have let the F-bombs slide. But they weren't the real problem. The REAL problem was that she also used the N-word, at least twice. I believe I also heard the male employee she was yelling at/to use the N-word in response to what she had said-- more or less repeating back what she'd said, in question form. That's more than unprofessional. It's 100% inexcusable. There's never a good time to use that word... but to use it loudly, casually and repeatedly in 2020, you have to be either 1) a rapper, 2) a genuine, unapologetic racist, or 3) severely brain-damaged. Well, I don't think Little Miss Tone-Deaf is the first of those choices. The jury's still out on options 2 and 3. Maybe she was off her meds, I don't know. What I do know is that I walked the f... uh, the HECK out that door, and I don't plan on giving them another cent of my money. I don't need a roast beef sandwich at 1 in the morning THAT badly. I'll be honest, I like the food here. I've never really had a problem with it. And if that were all I was judging them on, I'd give them a good rating. But you know what they say: you're only as good as your last performance. And I prefer my fast food served without a side order of casual racism. Menu is better than what it was a few years ago.. I stopped by for lunch as I was in need for a roast beef sandwich. I was the only one there, so there was really no wait for the food. Service was so/so from the start as I waited at the counter for about 5 mins before someone came to the front to take my order.. The roast beef sandwich was pretty small for a super beef and they charged me for the lettuce(still tasted good). The fries were very obviously refried to heat them up so they were pretty hard and not very good at all. Drink was full of ice so I probably got about 4 sips. My mother drove down from Maine with her friend and wanted to meet for a roast beef sandwich. I live in Peabody and she used to live down here so she chose Bill and Bobs . First of all they would not let them use the restroom. Second the tables were all filthy , when I asked if they could clean a table as were going to dine in the woman working the counter Said she would get to it in a minute, while we stood waiting to sit down . We were the only customers in there . After we stood there for several minutes waiting, I asked her if she could just give me a cloth and I would wash the table, she rudely responded that she told me she would get there in a minute. We decided to eat outside instead. Third , the sandwiches were terrible! I am a roast beef 3 way lover and the sandwiches were small , plain and just not at all good ! The prices are about the same as every place else but the portions are pathetic. I can see why we were the only customers in there! The sandwich was overflowing with lettuce etc, with a barely perceptible layer of roast beef overlaying the top. Should be rebranded "Bill &Bob's No Roast Beef." Overpriced and over-rated. The bad: The roast beef sandwich had dry/listless roast beef, minuscule amounts of sauce and a bun that was staler than a nun's jokes. It's cash only. What? The building is pointlessly separated from the street by a parking lot. Not sure what the purpose of this is as it's probably tougher to spot from the road, but this might be a good thing. The decor is greasy and haggard. That is not a typo. The interior of the restaurant literally looks greasy. People actually go here. My guess is that it's because of the namesake. The good: This place really makes me appreciate a good roast beef sandwich. Is this place a clear-cut one-star joint? Maybe. I love this place. I know it looks a little skeezy (is that a word?) to an outsider, but it is delicious. I do hate that they only take cash, but I still stop in whenever I go visit my parents up in Salem. I just can't stop craving those deep-fried broccoli bites. My whole family likes this place, and so does everyone I've ever dragged there for a meal. It's cheap and tasty. My only complaints: 1) the floor tends to be a little sticky and I'm not sure they really bother to wash the tables often (it's more of a takeout place anyway) 2) they only take cash -- I hate that. Stopped in tonight for a sandwich, french fries and drink thang, they had a combo $8 bucks... Fries were blah, sandwich required removing the bun to verify presence of meat and the diet coke was, well how can you screw a coke up?
