Literally the best American Chinese place in its area. (Summit, Millburn, Oranges, Maplewood.) Always fresh and never greasy or gelatinous like most places. (And the different dishes actually taste different and have great flavor, unlike so many of its bland, uniform competitors. It's only takeout, which is fine considering that it has superior food to any American Chinese dine-in place nearby. People that are saying "bland" are probably just used to the msg encrusted garbage you normally get from Chinese take out. Reading these bad reviews is infuriating because many of them are complaining about flukes. Late delivery, cold food... They've only recently started delivery through an outside service. It's definitely a strong contender for some of the better Chinese food in the area with some of the places in West Orange. We decided to give it a try after having heard good things about their food and were not disappointed. We walked in not knowing what to order and during the 5 minutes it took us to decide, at least 10 people had come in to pick up there orders. That was a good sign to start it off. Plus the it was very clean, the people friendly and of course the service was quick (all additional pluses in my book). Their menu is decent. It has many of the standard Chinese food options you'd find anywhere. The only drawback is they don't have any dinner combo's available (only available for lunch). My friend and I decided our "cheat meal" was going to be Chinese so we ordered delivery from Bill and Harrys. This is not my favorite Chinese delivery, but she convinced me that it was the best. I ordered chicken and broccoli. It was delivered in 65 minutes (that's fine, the ETA was 45-60 minutes). As we excitingly opened our food I realized that my chicken and broccoli came PLAIN. no sauce. I've NEVER even heard of such a thing from a Chinese restaurant?! We thought that it must have been delivered to the wrong place because it seemed like a specific order. So we called and explained ourselves and they said that we had to come in and exchange it. That literally defeats the purpose of delivery when it's 0 degrees out. The food here is decent, though I would not typically go here for the food, but to make conversation with the man who would take my order. He is so friendly and willing to help me practice my Mandarin Chinese. On more than a few occasions, he patiently listened to me as I fumbled for the right words to order and talk about my experiences studying in China and then was even kind enough to tell me that I spoke very well! This place becomes better and better, the more you try other area places. We initially moved on after one or two orders, but it seems to have improved in our eyes after exhausting nearly every other place around. We routinely order from here because they are one of the few places that is able to produce gluten-free items good enough for someone who has celiac disease. Overpriced, bland food. We ordered the boneless spare ribs and there was about 4 pieces of meat and the rest of the carton was entirely lettuce! Was hoping to find a Chinese place close by but sure enough I was very disappointed when I ate here. The food was extremely greasy and did not taste fresh. The majority of their produce is frozen, they have a rodent/cockroach infestation, and there are flies constantly landing on the meat that is left out to rot in the heat out back. We had to throw away the entire meal rather sad to say being that Maple wood has other fine places which were close on Easter Sunday. Hideous, stale, tasteless "Chinese" food -- far worse than your average store-front take-out dump. Scallion pancakes were bone dry and tough as leather, with about two shreds of scallions in evidence. Dumplings must have been leftovers, reheated in a crematorium. They were absolutely inedible. The much-touted crispy chicken, the house special, didn't come close to being crispy. They should call it soggy chicken. On the plus side, I will say that some of the vegetables in this dish were actually fresh. If you must order from this place, if there are no other options, I would suggest the pork chow fun. After eating ordering from here for 15 years + I have decided to sever all ties. I ordered delivery from there today after 90 minutes my food still had not arrived. I called them to cancel the order and in since I paid with a card they said I would receive a cash refund if I walked down. Once i got there they made me wait 20 minutes for the manager to get there and "refund me personally out of her purse" once she got there I was still denied a refund. At this point I am in the process of filing a claim with my bank account. I have never felt so disrespected by any establishment let alone a place where I'm a semi regular customer at. read more

Overall, pretty good takeout. Unfortunately, there is a sever shortage of good Chinese restaurants in the area (our favorite is out of takeout/delivery range), so we usually order here when we feel like eating in. Wish they delivered, but worth the trip into the Village to pick up. The food is consistently good - usually order the cold noodles in sesame sauce (it's difficult to find a place that does these the way I like them, but these are a good substitute - not terribly peanut buttery as some are) and sesame chicken, which is made with chunks of white meat. As a customer and business associate of Bill and Harrry's for the last two years i can honestly say that Mat T. Has truly misrepresented this fine establishment in his review on 3/18. His claims are not based on fact . The truth of the matter is that Mat T. was due a refund by the online ordering platform he used. The assistant mgr. of the service tried to explain this to Mat T. But Mr T was so "hell spent" on getting a cash refund from the restaurant that he didn't care about the proper procedures. He therefore proceeded to this "classy" establishment in a blind and violent rage that frightened the owner and staff . Matt T. created an unnecessary scene to the point where the Maplewood police had to escort him off the premises. Really Matt T ? was it really worth all of that over $ 22 of Chinese food? which mind you is the "Most Delicious"and "Exquisite"you will find in Essex County and beyond! Believe me these are Fine people running an establishment who's aim is to satisfy "Every"customer with "Fine Chinese Cuisine." Kudos to Bill and Harrys!!!! read more
