MOLDY APPLE PIE, it even smelled funny
    Barbara B.

Easter, 2024. This place has finally flunked my assessment of them. Ordered marble beef for tenderness, and I received "rubber". I visited at 4:18 pm. I had no care in that they were closing soon. Got home & I had UNDERCOOKED BEANS, CRUNCHY RICE, & MOLDY APPLE PIE. You can visit - at your own risk, as for me, this was the last straw. NEVER AGAIN. EVER!

Fresh delicious chicken, brisket taco and carne guisada taco. This fried chicken is the best. Probably better than any of the other bill millers we have tried. The staff was friendly and professional. The establishment was nice and clean.

Bill Miller is highly capable BBQ. They cook all the meat in San Antonio and truck out to the stores. Unfortunately the brisket can get a little greasy. The chopped beef sandwich is one of my favorites, but unfortunately it's very greasy too. I like their vinegar cole slaw, hash brown potatoes, and pumpernickle bread. Their tea is interstellar (unsweet). The pecan pie is perfect. You can't go wrong with a family bag (brisket, 2 quarts of side, bread, onions, pickle, and sauce). They are great for holidays too. The turkey deal is excellent and is a great option for easy Thanksgiving or Christmas.

Not much of a serving. The fries has like 8. Food wasn't hot. The fries weren't even fresh. The price wasn't worth it

You call this a brisket taco for $2.59? It's a joke! What a waste of time and money to come get this...

Horrible!!! Can't even get a simple order right. I go through the drive through to get 1 bean and EGG taco and a brisket taco. They give me bean and cheese and the brisket taco was a disgrace. Barely and meat on half of it and the other half had less than half a strip on it, all tortilla. What the hell kind of quality check do they have??

It had good ratings, even though the building looks like an old trailer home. A friend said "oh yes its sooooo good, we love it!" So in we went! Our group got a lil of everything to try. There was six of us total and we run around the table and gave our rating out of five stars and everybody gave it above a 4.5. Some of the food was fantastic!! -- recommend the chicken fried steak 100%, taco was good as well, rice and beans good!!! Enchiladas with CHILI GRAVY was good, but you have to request that - would not order it the way they serve it again though because they use like cream of chicken soup and it was awful. BBQ was good, sauce was good! My friend raves about the potato salad! Wouldn't get biscuits again, very dense and not really my fav, but saw other reviews loved it. Chorizo and egg was decent - cant really mess that up just wish for a softer tortilla Overall, we will definitely be stopping in here again. Next time we go to the river, but I would just stick to the barbecue and chicken fried steak because those were absolutely amazing.

Everything was filling and we look forward to coming back on our next camping trip for lunch.

I was there at 11:15 on Saturday hungry & ready to throw my life's savings at some meat. Luckily it didn't cost that much. The setup is great for the small town of lytle. Tommy Joes occupies a corner lot under a large shade tree & with an awning built off their trailer. Their smoker is one of the biggest I've seen & has to be 20 ft long or more, just impressive to gawk at. They had a lady selling crafts in their lot, & plenty of places to sit if you wanted to dine outside instead of taking it home. I ordered 1 1/2 pounds of pulled pork, a large container of smoked Mac & cheese, a medium container of potato salad, a dozen of the beef tallow homemade flour tortillas (a must), & the special which was a honey bbq glazed pork belly they had for $28 a pound. Everything was ready quick within 5 mins & they packaged it all up & included some fixings like pickled onion, pickled & bread. I made bbq tacos using the tortillas with both the pork belly & the pulled pork, adding only some shredded cheese & crema & man they were SLAPPING. Especially the pork belly which was beautiful to look at & better to eat. A pound was plenty to share for 6 people as was the 1 1/2 pounds of pork.Another highlight was the smoked Mac & cheese. Other than melting a block of velveeta into a pot of pasta I don't think I've ever had cheesier Mac & cheese. It was really good but I didn't taste & smokiness so don't let that deter you. All in all, it was only about $75 for everything & we had leftovers so not a bad deal for a lot of high quality local bbq. The people were friendly as heck too so that's always a plus. I wanted to go back again before I left but didn't have time. I hope they do well so I can visit again next year!

Well, there's another one called "City Market" that skipped right past me. Or, no one thought to tell me. It's one or the other because this place is pretty popular with lines out the door! So I heard about City Market BBQ, the same day I drove to Luling, Texas! It's an hour outside of Austin. City Market is in the downtown area, and parking was a breeze; the line I saw on the sidewalk coming from City Market, I must admit, was long, but it was a breeze, too. Now, this is on Wednesday, not the weekend. I hopped in line, the line moving fast. People are friendly, telling me that once I'm inside, there's another door I will go into to place my order. I like to call this the secret door with all the good smells of smoky barbecue. Check out my pictures of the secret door; you can't even see inside. I'm there, I made it inside, and there's 3 of the most friendly older gentlemen I will ever meet in my life. One of them caught on that I haven't been in a kitchen, never in my life, when he started asking if I wanted 1/4 of brisket. I whispered, "Give me three or four, because I'm not good at math either." Oh, we had a great laugh! I sat down, picked on a rib, and the meat slid from the bone! It was so tender, juicy, and full of flavor. The skin had the right burnt in the right spots. The meat was moist and easy to chew. I was like the Flintstones cleaning the bones before I bit into my sausage and brisket. The sausage was very good, and my brisket was smoky, like my ribs. I have to brag about the sauce. It came in a skinny bottle. It was a new flavor for me; it wasn't spicy, but it had a nice heat to it that I loved! I'm so happy I chose to ride down to Luling to visit City Market as soon as I heard about this BBQ place. I would have been so mad at myself if I had waited and forgotten!

City Market in Luling was established in either 1957 or 1958, depending on the source. The…read morerestaurant's own website says "Established in 1958," and most historical references use 1958. So as of 2026, the barbecue place is about 68 years old. It's considered one of the classic old-school Central Texas barbecue joints and still operates much like a traditional meat-market-style BBQ house. This is an older building, including bathrooms... One of which was not working. Was disappointed that their sides include potato salad, and beans only because when I go to barbecue, I love Colliard greens, potato salad, beet salad, etc. not available here. The brisket slice I had likely the best piece of brisket I've ever had in my life. Now... Don't go crazy. I don't eat brisket typically when I do barbecue. The rib that I had was decent. The sausage I had by comparison to other barbecue places was unfortunately the worst that I've ever had. I'm not sure what grind they use, but it seems like it was more beef and somewhat sweet to my pallet which I personally don't care for in sausage. Overall, if I just wanted brisket, I would return but next time I'm in Luling I likely will go to the place right next-door to them and try them.
