We had just moved to Sunnyvale two weeks ago. We're already $1200 in the hole for a car that broke on our way up. So when our Jeep overheats and we have to be towed, the AAA guy recommends Mountain View Radiator. We're already shell shocked from the trauma of an expensive repair on our Jetta and like one of the other posters said, we had to leave the car and the keys in the slot with a fair amount of trepidation. They call first thing in the morning, diagnose the problem, give us a price and fix it the same day. Not only that, but they fixed our other car that still wasn't fixed!!!!! 5 stars alone for Nemo, the store pet. A playful German shepherd who will refuse to give up his precious tennis ball, unless you trick him into releasing. I think he even does some of the oil changes. Been going to my old mechanic for a few years, family friend, so its one of those things like herpes, its just sticks to you and you think you cant do anything about it. So I take my car to mechanic, takes him 3 days to get back to me (actually I called him) tells me whats wrong with car...says will fix it. 2 days later I call, no answer, leave a message, someone calls me back and tells me he is gone out of country for 2 weeks!!! I get my car out of there and jump to trusty YELP, after all its all about the YELP LIFE , not THUG LIFE Rhianna claims, she should have gotten a 'yelp life' tat, then I would buy her music instead of pirating her stuff off napster like sites. but I digress...... I see MVR has awesome ratings, and a pet dog on site?!??! Sold! I speak to Manny and he makes the magic happen....fixes my car right up, they test your car after all repairs, they found out the part they were sent was defective, so they made sure my car was in tip top shape before I got it back..even got a warranty., ...if my car clunks out again within certain miles ( i think 12,000) due to any of the repairs they performed, I get to take it back and they will fix it right up for FREE .99, Free .99?! that's my dog! thatssss my dog! REAL GOOD SPOT to take your vehicle. I was kept in the loop of it all constantly, didn't have to wonder if my old trusty was being neglected in a corner collecting dust. They quoted me $90 and when I got there they wanted to charge me $135. They are not to trust. They gave me the $90 because they said they would do it for that price on the phone. After they were done they wanted me to come back and get more done on the alignment that will charge me $135 an hour that will take 2 hours the owner said. Stay away! read more

I recently went for an oil change along with some checkups. That shop recommended me an detailed coolant area checkup because they detected some leakage. Well, their recommendation was to replace the whole radiator along with other knick knacks which would cost me $1000 even with my AAA discount. Their fear was that the radiator had an unrepairable crack which I did not see even after they pointed out the location. Abhorred by that amount of money and suspicious of their judgment (after all, I have not seen any spillage on a parking spot at my apartment or sudden engine heat up while driving), I decided to seek the second opinion. I called around other AAA-certified shops, and liked the informative and casual talk this place offered, so decided to have this place check. The shop is along El Camino, which means that, while Saturday morning wouldn't be bad for people to get out of their lot, Saturday around noon might not be so easy. There was also a family dog which was friendly, but a chief mechanic put him (or her) into the cage to probably protect the dog from incoming cars. Anyway, back to the radiator stuff. They told me the actual work to be charged would be an half hour, but the completion won't be until 1 or 2 p.m. due to other commitments. I was fine with that because my gf drove with me so I could spend some quality time instead of wondering when my car would get done its inspection. Honesty pays off, especially toward me. They did call me a little after 12 saying that they did everything to find the location of a leakage from the radiator, but could not find anything wrong with my radiator. Relieved, I went back to the shop to pick up my car. They recommended me just eventual replacement of hoses (because mechanics found minor dripping, but not leakage, from hoses) and thermostat housing, and told me the next inspection timing would be fine. The replacement was estimated $160 instead of $1000, so that was a major relief for my psyche and wallet. Even if they still found something wrong with the radiator, I would have given this place 4 stars for their professional mannerism and extensive knowledge. read more

Early this year (or maybe even late last year) my car had broken down in the middle of the freeway and had to be towed. When the tow truck guy finally came, he found me in tears and unsure what to do next. He suggested we tow my car here, to Mountain View Radiator, and assured me I'd be taken care of. He was certainly right about that. The people here at MVR are awesome. Its a family business and everyone is knowledgeable and friendly. They are thorough in explaining things and get the job done right and fast. They even helped me get a rental. :) Since then I've been back a couple of times for things here and there. I just stopped by today because there were forecasts of rain this weekend and my windshield wipers are shot. I bought new wipers at the local auto parts shop but they didn't help me install. I had a great experience with these guys. They were welcoming and quick with their work. I felt in good hands. I had some issues with my electrical system on my car, I didn't feel safe driving, it was that bad. It was worrying me and I needed the car fixed that day because of my work. They got everything done quick and easy. Their shop is behind the car dealership and it seems like they have a good community of people that work for them. They have a couple of nice dogs roaming around and when I was there they were having a BBQ too. My car operates great now and I feel safe driving again. read more

Once again I received excellent service at Mountain View Radiator. Special thanks to Manny and Greg. My car needed to remain in the shop for several days in order to be repaired. During this nearly week-long period, Mountain View Radiator covered the cost of a Hertz rental car for me so that I would not be without a car. They even helped me pick up the car at Hertz. I came here to get the headlights on my 1968 Fiat 850 adjusted. The mechanic told me it would be a thirty minute wait, but I only ended up waiting about ten minutes. They did a fantastic job and treated me very well -- much better than I've experienced at most auto mechanics. My mom was with me and they even threw in a quick little fix on her car at no extra charge. She asked them to fix a broken door lock on her Toyota and the mechanic advised her not to, since it was going to be too expensive and he didn't feel like she should do it. My 2002 Civic has a miss fire when I was in the area and this was the nearest mechanic open Sunday. Overall, I was amazed that they took 15 minutes to fix the misfire by replacing a coil saying part cost less than $50 and they didn't want to charge me for labor since it was so fast. If it was an immoral mechanic, they could have charged me $100+ for hours to fix anything else related to a misfire but these guys are honest business men in my mind. Manny was friendly, listened to my concerns, was very fair and straight up about the issues with my car. I will take all my car issues to him from now on. My Honda Odissey had a problem with its ABS brake. Manny took me in same day, quickly diagnosed the issue and solved the problem on the spot. He took me to a ride with him to ensure we both saw the issue was resolved. I've also explained the car was vibrating when braking at highway speed, he explained me this was probably because discs were warped (from service someone else did) but given my usage of the car he said it would probably be ok to hold on that service for now. This family run business really helped me out especially in the stressful holiday ciaos! My motor had blown out on my vehicle within pass week. Needless to say i dont have a running car but i was able to know my options and costs to be able to work with to find a resolution. My car slid down an embankment and the alignment and other things were impacted. This business not only repaired the damage from the accident, they also repaired the driver side door which wouldn't open from the inside. They also washed my car and cleaned the inside too. On my way to work at 7am my van breaks down, I parked it at a gas station and left the key under the seat...took a taxi to work and didn't know what to do. I needed a brake and light inspection to re-register my "totalled" Toyota Celica with the DMV (insurance declared it as such). After looking on Yelp I called a few places and none were still doing the inspection. Then I saw that Mtn View Radiator did those and called them. I was asked if I could come by soon since they were able to work on it now. I drove down and talked with a friendly guy (not sure if he's the owner or an employee). He gave me the estimate ($130 total for both inspections) and they started on it immediately. After about 30 minutes the various inspections were done and they found one of the signal lights' wiring had been damaged and needed repair. They re-wired it for $25 more. I inspected the wiring work and it looked professional. Everyone was friendly and efficient that I saw there. Their dog is cute too. read more

I LOVE , this shop! It is a full service shop with loads of experience. It is a family run business. They treat all costumers the same regardless of sex, (which in my experience is extremely rare). They are more interested in keeping good relationships than trying to make a quick buck and they consistently under bid other shops on major work. I have recommended several friends and co-workers to them and will continue to do so. They also know how to show appreciation to loyal customers. If you don't love your current mechanic you should definitely check them out. Heck, even if you do love your current mechanic check them out you may find that you don't love the other as much as you thought you did. read more

This was my first time here. It was recommended to me by the tow truck driver! My F-150 Ford truck blew a spark plug (don't get me started on this issue!). Manny and the other guys were great to work with, fixed up the issue in the same day, and did a few more mechanical repairs to boot. I was rolling that night. I love this place! After my radiator blew, AAA towed my Jeep to a dealership. The dealership charged me $100 to look at the issue, and gave me an estimate of $8,400 to replace the engine and radiator. I was prepared to sell the car for scrap, but I decided to give Mountain View Radiator a call first. Manny, at Mountain View Radiator, said that estimate was suspiciously high and offered to have one of his tow trucks tow my car 20 miles, at no cost, so he could take a look to see if there was anything they could do. They were able to take apart the engine, and fix the issue for $3,300 without replacing the engine. It was less than half the cost, and everyone was very friendly. read more

DO HOT GO HERE... To start with you have to get by a not so nice looking German Shepard which they make no effort to control. Prices are crazy high, work is shoddy to boot. Had my radiator replaced the hose clamps for the transmission cooling lines are not even tightened. The hose came off leaking transmission fluid everywhere almost cost me a brand new $2700 tranny rebuild. On top of that I was charged $150 to replace a power steering line which they hacked together with a simple 18" hose and not an OEM part. I am pretty sure the Dad is stand up guy but the son running it not so much. read more

I don't even want to give them one star! They nickel and dimed me for every part and service and kept the SUV an extra day. I declined the rental car to save them some money and took light rail home but I guess the vehicle got repaired that first day after all because the manager drove it home (70 miles) that night. Still no call in the morning so I wander over and the vehicle was ready so I paid the inflated charges. Guess they didn't call because they were going to take it out again today. I understand having to test drive, but taking my vehicle home (70 miles) is not a test drive, it's using my vehicle without my permission; while I'm on public transportation. read more

These guys saved me seven thousand dollars. I took my land rover to supposedly the best place around and was told my catalytic converter was broken ($2000) and both my engine and transmission were leaking from every seal and had to be pulled and replaced ($5000). I'm in the building stage of a business and didn't have that money available, so I ended up driving rental cars. I called up Mt. View Radiator and was assured they are Land Rover specialists. I take that with a grain of salt, but decided to give them a shot anyway, just to confirm what the other guys said before dropping 7k. They did their diagnostic and told me it would be a whopping $300 to fix the actual problem: a crank sensor. I asked about the leak and they showed me that the engine and transmission were fine, it was the radiator. That would be about 1k. Four months later and the rover is still running like a top, so they were right on the money. I cannot recommend them highly enough. read more

This would be the second time that I went to Mountain View Radiator. First time I had a great experience, and although I had expected a more dire prognosis in regards to the horrid screeching noises that occurred while I drive, I was assured that it was only a small power-steering fluid leak responsible, and they topped off the fluid for free! During the second time, the only downside was that when the technician called me at work to ask if they could repair my brake calipers on both front assemblies, they neglected to tell me that the rear right tire was completely bald. A day after I picked up my car, a coworker mentioned it to me in passing that they think my back right tire needs to be replaced, I checked it and was surprised how dilapidated it was. I called MV Radiator and asked if the technician had noticed; turns out it was printed on my receipt in the Recommended Work section simply "two tires," and it was explained to me when I called that the technician HAD noticed it, and I should have asked about it when I paid. Since I work late, I had to rush to pay for my car before MV Radiator closed, and I briefly perused the Vehicle Problems and Services Performed (and Price, of course!), but since they were pretty much closed, I paid and left. I'm mostly annoyed because I didn't feel that this was handled very professionally, and although I don't believe that the customer is ALWAYS right, the shop should have been more understanding about the communication issues since I felt like I was being patronized for missing this two word diagnosis. Mistakes happen, but I'm just very disappointed that I had a bald tire the night before a road-trip to a family gathering. Luckily, Dastgah Tire and Service helped me out and waived service fees, so I'm ready to roll! Maybe I will give MV Radiator one more try; after all, they did a great job on the brakes! Manny at Mountain View Radiator is fantastic. My car had a huge electrical problem (due to my dear husband reversing the polarity when jumping it, arg). Magnussen's Toyota of Palo Alto assessed the repairs at $5000 to replace the whole electrical system. We were going to pay it too! Then a friend suggested Manny. I called him, he had our car towed to him and assessed the situation by pure detective work. He tried a bunch of things and figured out which fuses were the problem and which ones had to be repaired. He fixed it up perfectly for $1600! Funny thing, he said if we had gone with the whole system replacement it still wouldn't have been fixed so I am sure it would have cost more! I just want to say, Manuel, is a cool dude, he looked at my Mercedes CLK 430 2001 for free. Other shops charge diagnostics fee's easily over a $65 fee. I briefly told him that I would smell a radiator smell in my car, but I couldn't find the leak myself, nor could other mechcanics find my problem. I also told him the smell would burn my eyes, and it would make them red. So he quickly sent one of his employees to pressure pump my radiator cap with an air pressure instrument and a reading dial on it. They quickly got a long metal wand with a mirror and flashlight, and located my leaks very quickly. I was actually very impressed, and told Manuel, I had issues at his shop before, but they really took care of me at the end. Thanks Mountain View Radiator, you guys are good!! read more

Mountain View Radiator is a great place to take your car. I get very nervous about anything with my car so I looked up a place on Yelp with good reviews. These reviews were right on. I took my car and they were open over an hour early which was great because I could get to work on time. They had a quote within a couple hours. I decided it wasnt worth it for me to repair so they let me have someone look at the car before it was paid for. Then when I went to pay the evaluation fee they waived it. This is a family owned company that is very trust worthy. Everyone was very nice. overall a great experience for something that could have been very terrible. read more

This is an update , even though the owner said he wants to make things right , he never tried to reach out to me. I was told the problem would never happen again and behold my car died with presumably the same issues . I will not be taking this car back to these guys because obviously they don't know how to fix a car. On tip of that this car might need another new battery even though I was granted the new one was better than the AAA and wouldn't cause my alternator to over charge the battery.
