Waited quite awhile for head light and brake inspection because I was taking back possession of my salvaged car. Certain things you need to do before the DMV will re-title your car. Long story short, it went o.k. although the left rear brake light was out, I saw the guy point it out to the worker. Anyway, it was never mentioned to us about getting it replaced. That "inspection" cost us $160. Not sure why they didn't replace the brake light or at least tell us about it. read more

Manny at Mountain View Radiator is fantastic. My car had a huge electrical problem (due to my dear husband reversing the polarity when jumping it, arg). Magnussen's Toyota of Palo Alto assessed the repairs at $5000 to replace the whole electrical system. We were going to pay it too! Then a friend suggested Manny. I called him, he had our car towed to him and assessed the situation by pure detective work. He tried a bunch of things and figured out which fuses were the problem and which ones had to be repaired. He fixed it up perfectly for $1600! Funny thing, he said if we had gone with the whole system replacement it still wouldn't have been fixed so I am sure it would have cost more! This is a very nice family owned business. I scheduled an appointment and they were able to evaluate and repair my car in the time frame they estimated for me. The repair price was reasonable and the customer service was great. I interacted with Greg and Manny who were both very nice. AND, did I mention they offer you a free rental car while yours is being repaired? What an awesome perk! The only reason I don't give it a 4 or 5-star rating is because when I initially went in for my brakes and mentioned I thought it was the rear ones giving me a problem, they didn't check thoroughly enough. I have a high mileage but strong running Lexus that needed a steering pump. The dealer wanted a fortune, so I postponed the work for months. On a whim, after a friend mentioned good things about Mountain View Radiator, I called them on Saturday morning. It turns out Manny quoted a worst case price over the phone, thought he could get the parts the same day so I brought the car in. These guys have saved the day for me many a time. I first came to their shop to service the plumbing and ended up bringing my van in for service ever since. From oil changes, brake maintenance to smog checks. They always manage to squeeze me in for last minute crisis. On a Saturday night my van wouldn't start when trying to leave the job. The tow truck didn't get there till 4:00 and got me to The shop at 4:45, 15 mins before closing. The tow truck dropped off the van and Manny was pulling out the alternator before we even talked coin! So, I came to Yelp for help. When I searched for car repair/radiators, MVR was the first place I found, with excellent reviews. I called and spoke to Manny, who informed me they would go get my car and tow it back to MVR for free. Awesome! Although people who work here are friendly, they try to take every penny they can! They wanted $1200 for a 120K service. $1200???? Are you kidding me? It's half that price at a DEALER. I was a repeat customer for a while, but after this, and also them wanting to take $$100 from me to take a LOOK at car (i had connection problems with my headlights). I've never been treated this well at any auto shop ... anywhere ... EVER! I needed to have my radiator fan assembly replaced and was hoping to stop by, get an estimate, and schedule an appointment. Instead, the guys told me they could order the part, have it delivered, and complete the work - same day. The price was quoted, work was performed, and I got my car back before end of business that day. It was a truly refreshing experience. More importantly, these folks welcomed me into their shop and treated me with great respect. Customer service like this is simply rare these days. They called me by name upon first meeting and repeatedly used such foreign terms as "please" and "thank you." I went to see these guys on a recommendation from econo lube which is done the street. I had a really good conversation with Manny about my a/c, got a reasonable estimate and made an appt. On my return visit I met Greg and Bill - what a great family. They were having a no charge special to do a complete engine diagnostic - so I had that done too. Bad news about the a/c compressor is gone and my car needed work. Got all the maintenace work done in 2 1/2 hrs. Way earlier than I thought I would get it done and it was AWESOME! I found myself needing a tow and my car out of warranty. AT&T Roadside Assistance sent Mt. View Radiator's towing company Family Towing. Greg arrived to pick up the car, I was originally going to take it to the dealer; but was legitimately worried about the cost for out of warranty work. I complained to Greg about this and he told me about his family's company. I worried for a bit about the risk of the unknown; I usually research these types of services before deciding. But Greg was so polite and kind I decided to go with my gut. I was glad I did! Their service was fast, able to get a part more quickly than they thought. And everyone was top notch with customer service. I did not have the problem I occasionally find with shops talking down to females. I am a car person and they got that I was understanding what they were saying. They have discount rental cars with Avis and I had trouble dealing with Avis and Mt. View Radiator made sure their end of the discount was upheld. While my car was in the shop I spoke with a friend who said she has been going there for years and thought they were the best and praised their customer service as well. In the end my car had a recall problem but I needed a full service so got that while I was there. I would recommend them to everyone and will be going back for all my auto repair (and towing) needs. You guys are amazing and no other way to put it. First off I got a quote for 70$ for a pressure test and call up Mountain View Radiator and said they would do it for free. I stopped by they showed me what was wrong. I tried fixing it myself and tried to diagnosis what was wrong but I couldn't so I returned to this place. Ended up being a loose clamp on one of the lower coolant hoses. They called me up and said it was free of charge. Recently had to get CA certified brake and lamp inspection for DMV, I came to Mountain View Radiator and left very happy! They let me know which lights needed to be replaced/fixed in order to pass the inspection, to avoid failing and having to pay re-inspection fees. BEST PART: my rear bumper had been hanging off due to a collision, and these guys re-attached the bumper free of charge! My car now looks nicer than ever. I found this shop using yelp and decided to try them out, seing as how the reviews I read were positive. Well, those reviewers were right! It's a family owned shop, easy to find on El Camino. We were helped by Manny, who gave both my friend and I quick estimates for our problems. Not only did they fix her brake problem (it was pretty minor), but they did it for free!! They made a joke about getting them cookies as some kind of payment, so that's exactly what we did! My repair was a little more substaintial, so cookies wouldnt work this time, but the work was great and I got my car back the next day, good as new. Overall the prices were fair, the work was good, and the service was great. Can't ask for much more than that!!! read more

I have had air cond. trouble, a fan that would cycle up and down erratically. My regular M-B service place quoted 500+ to repair, but I put it off. Yesterday afternoon I found this place, and they knew what to do, saying it required an expensive part, but said the total would be a little over $300 total! A $200 saving. They ordered the part and I came back next day (today, Saturday); the part was there and they installed it while I waited-which worked! Friendly, expert, men of their word. I do most of my own auto repairs, but obviously don't have equipment to evacuate an AC system. Based on the Yelp reviews, I brought my 20+ year old car in to fix the Air Conditioning. Manny let me look over his shoulder and patiently answered my questions while he evacuated/tested/recharged the R12 Freon. Other places tried to talk me into switching to R134 (at higher cost). But since the car was not designed for R134 it will leak much faster... Based on my experience, I would expect to get a good repair at a fair price with great service. This is a small shop, and the floors are definitely not waxed like the Lexus repair bays! But the guys that own the place also run it. It shows! read more

These guys are awesome!!! I had a flat tire and I wasn't sure where I really needed to go get the flat tire fixed and I happened to drive there in the evening around closing time. I met Greg and he graciously offered to fix the tire for me right away. They fixed my tire in a minute and even swapped the tires for me without any charge! List of events 1, Brought my car (Mercedes) in because it was running a little hot (summer of 2012) 2, picked car up, running fine, but there is a rattle, I took it back 3, Manny told me it was my transmission (the new transmission I installed 3,000 miles ago) 4, My transmission got looked at, it was fine, rattle continued, I took it back (second trip) 5. this time Manny could not find anything and said he had to charge me diagnostic time, I said "no" 6, rattle gets worse, I finally start looking under the hood myself for what I can find. 7, I find that the fan blade was striking the front of the engine (where my distributor cap was). The fan was installed incorrectly and was too close. I take it back (third trip) 8, Manny says I need a new mount for the fan assembly, it will cost me $400 (with his special discount for all my trouble) I call a random local shop and they say the part with installation is $350 (no discount) 9, I refuse to let Manny fix my car and tell him to put it outside with the key locked inside, I would pick it up later that evening after work. 10,***I find my car (Mercedes) parked on El Camino in front of their shop (instead of in their empty parking lot), locked, with the Key Sitting ON The Passenger Seat, in plain view of everyone walking by. (flip key for that matter with the key flipped out) It could not scream "steal me" any louder. And... -when I picked it up, the car never rattled again -I never got the part fixed -meaning, it did not need to be fixed -the assembly just had to be put together correctly. Awful experience: Sets the bar for mechanics who don't back up their work and fix anything if they think you are mechanically ignorant. Lucky for me, before I turned spanish major in college, I worked on cars for 5 years... if you choose this shop, good luck read more
