I took my family out to breakfast this morning, and usually frequent the Alameda location, but my son made me aware the Newbury location is closer to us. I love having breakfast at Bill's Cafe. Unfortunately, this location is not the same experience as the two other locations I've tried. The hostess told us they had no tables, and we could sit at the bar. My daughter stated she would rather be seated at a table, and we could wait. Three customers were walking past us, and the hostess said we could have their table. We were immediately seated in a booth, and we noticed there were at least five empty tables around us, peculiar. Whatever, we had time to look and decide what we each wanted. When our waiter came for our orders, he was quick and efficient. We didn't have to wait long for our meals and drinks to arrive. We generally liked our food, but the country potatoes were a little too firm, and seemed like they weren't cooked all the way through. We had to wait awhile for refills on our drinks. We caught the hostess walking by, and asked if we could get refills and napkins. She said okay, but brought only napkins, and we waited some more for refills on coffee and water. The hostess seemed a bit brusque, on the other hand our waiter was, quick and professional. I will drive a little further to the Alameda location, because the Newbury location is not as great, or team conscious as the other location. read more

We had such a great experience at Bill's Cafe thanks to Cruz! He was absolutely amazing--so attentive from the moment we sat down, always checking in to make sure we had everything we needed without being overbearing. He has such a great sense of humor and kept us laughing the whole time, which made the meal even more enjoyable. Our food and drinks came out quickly, and he made sure everything was perfect. We come to this location a lot, it is under some apartment buildings and you can find the parking under neath the apartments or on side streets. My boyfriend loves the steak and eggs and they give you a pretty big size steak here which is nice! I tried their seasonal omelette which was described as 4 eggs with ham, chicken, and cheese with hollondaise sauce on top. The hollondaise sauce on top of the omelette was perfect, I loved this omelette! Always use the pepper plant sauce for an added flavor and spice! Typical great service from a neighborhood favorite, but I'm going to have to start sending back dishes that are off. I thought it was a one-off, but we come here often enough and they can't seem to get it right. Benedicts are supposed to have poached eggs with yolk that is runny, not jelly-like. And "extra crispy" has browns are not supposed to be mushy inside. Both have become the norm, sadly. read more

We've recently started coming back here more regularly (albeit for takeout, rather than dine-in). Food quality is still tasty and the service is good. The eating area has counter seating and it's very clean. We arrived about 10 am and we're seated right away. Nice variety of meals and some had a special twist to them. Chilaquiles Rojo's were delicious with mild spice. Pancakes fluffy and tasty. The servers were very attentive and friendly. The only con is the restrooms could use some attention. Bill's Cafe will always be a Bay Area staple. This location isn't as packed compared to the original spots and it's great to see them expanding to other locations outside of South Bay. I appreciate how to service has been consistent. I love the classic brunch options here--omelets, pancakes, and eggs benedict are always great choices. The pancakes were massive and the bread pudding French toast was top tier. If you're feeling a little extra, the menu has a fun mix of American and Southern fusion. The atmosphere is lively and time flies when you're there. It can get a bit noisy at times. The only downside for me were the hash browns. It needed more flavor and I had to add salt and pepper to them each time. I'd go with the country potatoes instead. Overall, good food and I'd definitely come back! read more

The hash browns were crispy on the outside but not cooked in the center. They offered to redo them but at that point, I was full and I still had a pancake to eat. I like the gesture though. I called to make reservations. They said they do but I have to go on their website. I couldn't find it anywhere. I called back. They directed me to "Post" or "Toast" and said it's on Google or to look again on the website. Nothing. So I called back a 3rd time. At this point, I gave up. Chanced that they would be able to seat us when my large party arrives. When I got there, I discovered that they don't take reservations. Date of event: 5/16/26 7:35am I ordered food from here and went to pick it up. I waited about 10 minutes even though I was the only person there at first. The first few minutes, more people came in, and the employee with two braids asked the new customers if they needed help but completely ignored me. I kept waiting, and another employee came out to help the other customers too. When I finally told them that I was waiting for an order, the employee with the braids grabbed my order, asked for the last name, and left it on the counter instead of handing it to me directly. I had to reach over the post to get it myself. She immediately just set it down and walked off. At the same time, another customer picking up a Grubhub order had their order handed to them politely. Not to mention that my food was sitting at the bar the entire time and I could have gone home earlier... I understand it was early in the morning, but the experience really ruined my mood in that moment. I love this place, but lately the customer service has been getting worse. We got seated right away and greeted quickly by our server Jennifer who was really kind and professional. She continuously checked on us and took good care of us.
