came to this restaurant and, shortly after arriving, an employee walked past me carrying food. I asked if I could sit anywhere, and she responded with an irritated tone, saying, "Yeah." I believe the bartender noticed her demeanor and stepped in to ask how he could help. I told him I needed a table for one. After being seated, I waited for over 5 minutes while the employee stood nearby folding napkins and completely ignored me. Around 9 minutes later, she walked over to another table and asked if they needed anything else, yet I had still not been acknowledged. It felt as though she was either blatantly ignoring me or simply chose not to serve me. Overall, the customer service and attentiveness were very disappointing. I eventually walked out without ordering. At the very least, someone should acknowledge a guest, offer a menu, or bring a glass of water. I've been here several times and have tried a variety of dishes, and everything has been consistently delicious. My personal favorites are the fried quesadillas and the carne asada nachos--they're absolutely amazing and the main reason I keep coming back. Is this San Jose's best kept secret for Mexican food happy hour?? We recently found out they started a happy hour, and it's honestly hard to beat. I don't know where else you can find $2 tacos anymore--and that even includes birria. The birria tacos don't come with consommé, but honestly, they're packed with so much meat in every bite that you don't even miss it. They also have $3 volcanes (kind of like a tostada), which were super tasty, and the $6 margaritas were strong in the best way. Plus, the chips tasted fresh, which always makes a difference. Came in on a Tuesday afternoon for a little lunch, they were not that busy, so we got a table for 3 right away. 1st, the parking lot is in the rear of the restaurant and is shared with a few other businesses, so it is very limited. Maybe about 5 to 6 spots. There are lots off meter parking on the streets around the restaurant. Queso Fundido with Longanizo and the melted cheese was delicious, one of my favorites. Street Corn with Mexican Mayo, queso cotijo and lime was very tasty. Carne En Su Jugo with Steak simmered in tomatillo sauce, bacon, pinto beans serve with onion, cilantro, radishes and a jalapeno and 3 mini Cheese quesadillas was very good with lots of flavor. But it is different to what I'm used to. This one, the broth is a lot thicker like chile verde. Chilaquiles Verde with Scramble Eggs and Pork Chorizo was a hit with lots of flavor. It is RARE that the standard level of spice (heat) at a restaurant is spicy enough to make my tongue tingle. I was impressed by this restaurant and how it met my heat baseline AND was delicious! There weren't many vegan options on the menu but I'm sure more items could be customized. Sooooo I have stupid food, allergies, and sadly I'm allergic to monosodium glutamate/MSG. Our server had no idea what spices were in the Pacific catch tostada so he went to ask the other chefs in the back. Sadly, they weren't too sure since the prep work was done ahead of time, but the executive chef, was in the restaurant, but not working. So my server, Roberto O., was able to ask him!! The executive chef came up to me at the table as our server introduced who he was since he was wearing his normal street clothes. The Chef offered to make me another version of the Pacific catch tostada, so it would not have any sauce or monosodium glutamate in the sauce and seasoning. He was so sweet to go the extra mile in assisting me with my annoying food allergies!! When the plate came out, I was astonished at how huge the freaking tostadas were!!! They had two tortilla attached to them, and as the first one broke it perfectly, caught all the fish and toppings underneath the second one! Lol I was so stuffed and full. I'm surprised I was able to finish my drink!! I will definitely come back to this location again and get something else or try another dish since the executive chef knows exactly what seasoning is put into everything! It's baaaaaack! The downtown location has returned with a new vibrant look! The decor is giving Miami vibes in DTSJ with its bright orange walls and chairs. I had only been for brunch once before they closed to remodel but wanted to try their expansive dinner menu. We came for an early dinner on Friday night but unfortunately not early enough for happy hour which is from 2-5 pm. They have a kids menu and I ordered the kids chicken quesadillas with beans for my 3 year old and it was enough food to feed 2 adults. It was four pieces of quesadillas and he barely ate one, not because he didn't like it, but because of how filling it was. I can't eat dairy otherwise I would have eaten it because it was so gooey of thick cheese. I ordered the chicken tinga sopes and the order is two very large sopes with beans and a lot of chicken which was perfectly seasoned. The salsa they give has a fierce kick but great flavor. My husband ordered the chicken torta and that sandwich was massive! It came with an order of seasoned fries which all 3 of us really liked. His torta was cut in half so you can see all the ingredients. I don't know how he did it but he ate the whole thing. The service was solid and by the time we were done around 6:20 pm, the restaurant was getting busy. They have great music playing and some bar seating with a great cocktail menu. read more

Went for my first time here... ordered a birria tostada. The staff/waiter was nice. The food I was not impressed . The tostada was soft and messy and fell apart. It was loaded heavily with layers of beans that I was unable to pick it up to bite it. It took another few minutes for the waiter to come take our drink orders or offer us water The food itself is ehhhh- my son ordered a burger, my husband ordered birria and I ordered chilaquiles. The patty itself was burnt and had this strong charred taste to it. My son did not even finish it and he loves burgers. The birria were okay but I guess you can't expect authentic Mexican taste from a spot like this. Same goes for the chilaquiles. As for the actual restaurant- it's located in a sketchy spot in DTSJ but that's pretty much everywhere. However, while we were eating, a homeless person walked in and started eating food and drinking from the glasses from the tables where people had already left but the silverware wasn't picked up. I loved this place! The parking is limited as it's in downtown San Jose. However, we did not have to wait to be seated. The inside is trendy and nicely decorated. We immediately ordered cafe de olla which is traditional Mexican coffee with cinnamon and let me tell you, it is the best I've ever tasted!! Plus it comes in a cute little pot, makes u feel like you're in Mexico :) I had three cups of coffee, i just loved it. I was having a hard time picking what to eat, as everything sounded so delicious, and the server helped me pick out the best option. I believe his name is Andrew, he was patient and attentive. At one point he got super busy but he still checked in on us. I got the country fried steak and eggs and it was just bomb. The plate was so full i couldn't eat it all, i had to take the rest home. I didn't have the best experience the last time I went to Tostadas. I dined here during my lunch time with some coworkers. We arrived at about 11:50, before the crowds arrived. I was excited to try the food as they had just reopened and remodeled from their fire. The waitress was very busy and honestly, very confused. We ordered all our food closer to 12pm. We were a larger party, but our food took way too long. The first meals came out for some people in our party at about 12:30. When they did, they were made incorrectly and needed to be sent back. The waitress was very confused about what was originally ordered and just kept running back and forth. I noticed that every table around us got their food before we did, even ones that ordered not too long ago. Most of us got our food at around 12:45pm, about an hour after we ordered. Even then, not all of us got our food with the last meal coming out at 12:55pm. For myself, I ordered scrambled eggs, bacon, and potatoes. They arrived about an hour after I ordered them, and they were bad. The bacon was pretty standard, the scrambled eggs were very overfried and crispy, and the potatoes were bland. Best part is that meal was $18!! :) I don't think I've ever been as disappointed at a restaurant than I was here. Not only were we on our lunch period getting food together and we didn't even have time to eat our food comfortably, the food itself was subpar at best. This is not a new experience, as I went to Tostadas about a year ago during lunch with a friend. The food took about 45 minutes to come out, and I had to take it to go immediately as I didn't have any time to eat it and had to go back to work. We hosted a large party for a bday event on a Sunday! Although super tight, the hosts were super accommodating for our large group. The top food were the ceviche and enchiladas. The kids meals had pretty large portions, so we had extra for each toddler. It is def a tough spot to host kids, but overall good food. read more
