I've been to Bills Cafe many times but the most recent time was this past Easter Sunday. We visited early in the morning where there was no wait time and my party of 4 was sat right away. Shortly after, we were greeted and waters were brought. Drink ordered were placed soon after. After reviewing the menu and made up our minds, our food order was placed as well. Food was served, enjoyed with the family. I ordered the crab cake Benedict with my Paloma mimosa. The other plates in my table consisted of the country fried steak and chilaquiles which were both great and enjoyed. Came here for a Saturday morning brunch. Parking was easy as it's part of a bigger complex. We came in, were greeted and put our name down. There was an option for outdoor and patio seating - we opted for whatever was quickest. After about 10 minutes our name was called for an indoor booth. Our waitress was kind and great at checking in on us. I went with the California omelet. We received our food after about 15 minutes. The food itself was ok. The hash browns were undercooked (underneath the top crispy part) and the oil the food was cooked in, tasted stale. Having exhausted my palate at Denica's, it was time to try a new place for my quarterly lunch with two of my besties. Thank you yelp for suggesting Bill's because the food here is great! Good flavors, freshly prepared although the service can take a little bit. To be fair, our water came right away and we had to wait for our last friend to show. I ordered the sweet potato Benedict from the specials menu and it was very good! The sweetness from the steamed sweet potato combines well with the spinach and red onions and perfectly poached egg. And the hash brown are thin and crispy too! Service was good. We did have to flag someone down for a water and ice tea refill though. Plenty of parking and seating for us when we arrived at 12:30. I used to enjoy Bill's, but each time I visit over the past few years, I like it less and less. Last Friday I ordered a California Eggs Benedict. The 'hollandaise' was thin and unappetizing, but worse- they put only about a tablespoon on each of the muffins. Pretty weird. (I almost took a picture, now wish I would have.) I flagged down our server and asked for some more hollandaise sauce. She forgot. After almost 10 minutes, I got up and approached a worker near the kitchen and asked him. He kindly brought it to me immediately, but my food wasn't warm anymore and an $18 order of cold eggs Benedict wasn't what I had hoped for. My friend had polished off most of her breakfast already because I told her not to wait. The whole meal was a series of this sort of thing and added up to a 'meh' experience. For instance, I avoid bread and saw they had a special offering of eggs Benedict on slices of sweet potato instead of an English muffin. That looked great! I asked my server to have the chef substitute my English muffins for sweet potato slices in my California Benedict order. She said she couldn't because 'the special had different toppings'. Huh? I offered to pay extra for a few slices of sweet potato if that was the issue, and then just hold the English muffin. She said she couldn't do that either. Why not? Disappointing. read more

This is hands down my favorite brunch spot in the Bay Area. I've been to all of their locations, but when I'm in Pleasanton, this is my go to for brunch/lunch. The customer service is amazing all around, from the hosts to the servers to the bartenders. Everyone is always friendly, welcoming, and on point. The food is ALWAYS A1. My favorite is the steak and eggs, and their freshly squeezed orange juice makes their mimosas even better. I usually stick with the original mimosa, it's just perfect. I tried the flight (shown in my pic), but I always order the original. I also love their eggs Benedict, pancakes, chicken and waffles, and omelets. Finally tried Bill's Cafe for Sunday breakfast! Wow, this is a great spot. First off let me start off by saying the service here is amazing. The moment we sat down we had someone asking if we wanted coffee and drinks and they delivered our food very quickly for a busy morning. The inside is large and lined with tables and booths, perfect for larger parties. We noticed many friends and families were there celebrating birthdays. Our group ordered the egg white Denver omelette with hashbrowns, chilaquiles with country potatoes, the huevos rancheros and a stack of chocolate chip pancakes. We were stuffed! Large portions and everything was cooked perfectly. The standout of the meal was definitely the pancakes, they were so fluffy. Our mimosas and Bloody Mary were mixed just right. Food is normally good, but today we did not have a good experience. Burnt bacon. See picture. A family member came here a few weeks ago and the server added $50 extra tip that was not approved. He noticed it a few weeks later after checking his credit card statement. He had to come back and dispute it and Bill's Cafe response was " oh, people normally don't check their credit card statement". Really?? Make sure you ask for a receipt and check the tip amount. We came here on a weekend day and they said it would be a 15-minute wait but it turned out to be more like 5 minutes for 2 people. The food can be pretty good depending on what you get. But I was surprised by the veggie scramble had very little flavor to it. So much so I had to order a side of salsa to add some flavor. I also ordered it with crispy hash browns but the hash browns were not crispy. The pancakes were pretty good though - we ordered the cinnamon roll and lemon ricotta pancakes and both were pretty good. My partner said his cowboy skillet dish with chorizo was fine, but it wasn't his favorite. This place gets really busy and they could improve their logistics a bit. I called to try and get on the waitlist on the way there only to be told I had to be there to check in. But it turns out you can get on the waitlist on Google. However, the line time estimates are not the most accurate either. So that could be a hit or miss. read more

Found a rock in my country potatoes. I have been a long time customer of Bills cafe & they have delicious breakfast. This morning I went and got pancakes and country potatoes. My usual, finished my pancakes and took the potatoes to go for my wife. She is just now eating them and found a literal rock in her food.. it is just the weirdest thing. I first told her it was maybe just the seasoning but then she brought me a little tiny rock. I'm unsure how this could have happened. The potatoes were well seasoned and the food is really good but due to this experience I can't find myself eating there again. I'm really disappointed and concerned on how this could have happened. I ordered the chicken steak and eggs on my buddy's recommendation--and since it's one of my favorite breakfast dishes, it was an easy choice. I couldn't have been happier. The portions were generous: two plates came out, one piled with the chicken steak and another with the eggs and hash browns. Definitely a hearty meal that kept me fueled for the day. The only downside was the coffee--it wasn't very strong and the flavor was just okay. On the flip side, the orange juice was excellent. We tried the special Lumberjack skillet with a side of lemon blueberry pancake (instead of toast for $2.75 upcharge). Bills is a solid choice for breakfast. It can get busy but if you go early you'll breeze in. I opt for the outdoor seating. It's quiet and plenty warm under the enclosed canopy with heat lamps. The service is consistently good. It's a rare occasion that water and coffee/juice aren't offered as soon as you are seated. My favorite dish is the lemon blueberry pancake. It's a lot of food, so I typically get a to go box and they actually are a yummy treat later! Most pancakes wouldn't make the after breakfast snack but these pancakes are yum. I haven't ordered anything but the pancakes. Hey, I like what I like- so I keep going back. I can say other dishes looked very nice from my side of the table. read more

We went there this morning to drop off our car & my husband suggested breakfast since we were in the area. I said why not & we've never been . Bill's Cafe is located in Pleasanton tucked away in a corner and lots of parking . The restaurant upon entering is very very clean & well lit & very simple decor which I like . Simple & minimal is better . We ordered the steak & eggs & extra eggs for me b/c my husband wanted 3 eggs w/ his steak . It was all perfectly cooked the steak needed some seasoning like salt & pepper but we both were ok b/c we added to our tasting so it worked out . We were greeted by a friendly young lady with a friendly smile . Our server was attentive & nice but I honestly don't remember him introducing himself . It's all good ! We really want to like this place because the California Benedict is consistently excellent. Every time we've ordered it, it's been spot on and easily the highlight of the meal. Unfortunately, the hash browns have been a completely different story. On every visit they've arrived undercooked, pale, and lacking any crispiness. On our most recent visit, I specifically requested them extra crispy. They came out undercooked, so I politely asked for a replacement. The second order somehow came back even less cooked than the first. They need to spread thinner so they are not a slop of oil socked potatoes. It's frustrating because the kitchen clearly knows how to make a great Benedict, but something is consistently going wrong with the hash browns. This seems like an easy fix that would dramatically improve the overall experience. We're giving two stars because the Benedict keeps bringing us back, but after multiple visits with the same issue, it's hard to overlook. Came with a group and we ordered the buttermilk pancakes to share. They originally came out with the wrong order of the pancakes (strawberry oat pancakes instead of buttermilk pancakes with strawberry on top) but they were quick to bring us the right order once we pointed it out. I had the breakfast burrito and was able to add avocado at no extra charge! They have a nice array of hot sauces at the table which is a nice touch. I came on a weekend and didn't have to wait too long to be seated, but I can anticipate that it could get very crowded if you come at a busy time. I definitely recommend family styling although I know that's not really the culture in American dining -- about halfway through my omelette, I felt like it was definitely very heavy and so did my brother who got the scramble. HOWEVER, the reviews are not wrong about the benedict's here -- they were just the perfect amount of filling while staying light and flavorful. The food is really good but a disappointment was that their Chicken Sausage has a pork casing so we couldn't have that and they don't have Turkey Bacon either.
