We were thankful they had industrial sized fans to help keep everyone cool. We started with the Empanada Trio - DELICIOUS! Brava is such a cute find in downtown Pleasanton. It looks like a hole in the wall from the outside but once you walk in there's this lovely garden vibe that makes it feel really charming. Great Argentinean restaurant situated in downtown Pleasanton. We came in for dinner as a party of 5 and were able to get seats without needing to wait at 5:30pm on a Sunday night. We were seated in the very cute outdoor patio, there was plenty of shade so even though it was pretty warm out we were pretty comfortable. We shared the BBQ platter which was perfect for 3 meat eaters and my partner had the vegetarian mushroom pasta. The platter was great, the beef especially was perfectly medium rare and was tender thru every bite. The roasted vegetables included in the platter included Brussel sprouts and cauliflower which were also beautifully caramelized. My partner enjoyed her mushroom pasta, the ridges on the pasta absorbed every bit of the delicious white sauce. Happy to come back, I think the patio space makes it perfect for families of all ages. Easily snagged a reservation for the outdoor patio on a Friday at 6pm. Not too crowded when we sat down, but it filled up by 6:30-7. The patio's a nice space, half-covered with fans, so it'll be great through summer. Service was attentive and fast, almost too fast. We ordered 2-3 apps and two entrees, and everything landed at once within 10-15 minutes. No real gap between courses, which meant no chance to actually finish the apps before the entrees showed up. But everything came out lukewarm, which was the main issue. The Brussels sprouts, meatball, and empanadas were all fairly tasty, but the meatball and empanada were room temp, which dulled the flavor. Same story with the entrees, chicken Milanesa and Lomo Saltado, both lukewarm. The Milanesa was thin, easy to eat, and the sauce worked well with it. The fries tasted frozen, not hand-cut, and on the Lomo Saltado the sauce made them soggy fast. Sauce itself ran a bit too salty. Steak in the Lomo Saltado was tender though, and generous on portion. The place is pretty small, but then you walk to the back and there's a large covered patio, and a small uncovered patio. It's very charming with various plants giving the outdoors a garden vibe. Most of the team was late by about 30 minutes for our reservation due to a prior meeting running long. The host was gracious enough to hold our reservation until everyone arrived. We started with some appetizers of Crispy Cauliflower, Habanero Fries, and Empanada Trio. They were all very yummy and were served with various dipping sauces. We came in a little after opening with a reservation. No one is at the host stand when we first arrived so we just waited until someone came up close to 5 minutes. The man who helped us was nice and helpful. Considering it was not busy when we arrived the service made us feel unwelcome no one smiled! When our food arrived no one came to check on us once to ask if everything was ok and to see how everything was tasting or if we needed water. I was a little annoyed when our food first came out because we had ordered two of the short rib sandwiches and for some reason 3 came out and the waitress insisted we ordered 3. We took it and paid for it anyway. I don't think this dish was very good considering the meat was almost mush, it made me think if pulled pork and sloppy Joe made a baby this would be it. The salad came with some mayo type of dressing that wasn't good and the fries were not salted. Out of all the sauces it came with I think the cilantro aioli was the best in flavor. Again the food was just OK at best. There was something to be improved in most dishes. I think salt was needed or at least table salt provided. The beef bolognese needed some red pepper flakes in my opinion. The noodles were slightly overcooked. I think the amount of sauce to noodles was perfect and it was nice and cheesy. The risotto was just ok as well, needed salt maybe more cheese, not much umami flavor considering it was a mushroom risotto. We ordered the empanada trio, the lomo saltado, and the spaghetti carbonara all of which I have nothing special to say except why are we using Gorgonzola in an empanada?! Medium rare indeed was medium rare... so kudos to that! It laid on top of a bed of spinach/onion/mashed potato(?), which I thought was again, nothing spectacular. Not much flavor with the spinach, so I actually opted out of eating it. Everyone else in my party loved their entrees. I also wanted to give kudos to the waitstaff: all were extremely nice, especially our waitress. She was nice and knowledgeable about the menu. When making the reservation, I specifically noted that this was a birthday celebration and selected covered outdoor patio seating through the reservation system. When we arrived on time, we were told there were no tables available in the area your reservation platform had offered us. To make matters worse, after a staff member asked us which available table we preferred, we pointed one out, only for another waiter to immediately give that exact table away to a smaller party while we stood there as a party of six. That set the tone for the evening. Service throughout the night lacked professionalism and hospitality. One male waiter, approximately in his 40s with slicked-back hair, was consistently rude, dismissive, sharp in tone, and visibly uninterested in helping our table. His behavior affected our entire party and made us feel unwelcome. Management should seriously address his service etiquette and overall conduct toward guests. The most disappointing part was the complete lack of acknowledgment of my wife's birthday. Throughout dinner, we watched several other tables celebrating birthdays receive desserts and recognition from staff, while our table received absolutely nothing despite the restaurant being informed ahead of time. At the end of dinner, we were simply handed the bill with no acknowledgment whatsoever. My wife even turned to me and asked, 'What about my birthday?' and honestly I had no answer for her. For appetizers, we started off with the trio of empanadas, the brussels sprouts, the french fries, and the cauliflower. The brussels sprouts and cauliflower come with a sauce on top, so would just be mindful in case you're looking for a truly healthy veggie option. The empanadas were fantastic. The cheese empanada had bleu cheese inside, which gave it a little bit of unique flavoring. For my entrée, I ordered the black ink pasta, which comes with a red marinara sauce. Usually, I am not a huge fan of marinara sauce, but the entire dish was absolutely amazing. I would eat it every day if I could, it also comes with a sizable portion of seafood, including scallops, shrimp, and mussels. The waitress took the time to point out her favorite menu items. The short rib sandwich was good. The meat was tender and (I thought) flavorful. The bread was well toasted but they may need an upgrade on the actual French roll used here. The salad and fries were excellent. The trio empanadas were good and were served with two dipping sauces. The crust were flaky and the ingredients were well cooked. Our friends got the Cobb salad (which got a great review) and the omelette (which was also recommended). We ordered the spaghetti carbonara, brussel sprouts, and kale Caesar salad. We loved all three and will definitely be back. The service is very fast, which was great for us. The portion sizes were not huge which was also great for us since we wanted to try more than one thing. The atmosphere is so cute. We had seating in the covered patio, and since the weather was perfect, so was the ambiance. So glad we tried this and we will definitely be back. I would not recommend this spot for large groups, or if you're looking for a slow and laid back speed of service. We were not rushed, but like I said, the service is quick!
