Miraculous theme bday party for my kiddo
    Amanda G.

Will never book here for my kid's party ever again. Our daughter was happy to have her birthday party here and we booked it two months ahead of the occasion. I tried to call them on the phone to get some info but no one answers. When I went in person, I was told that I could only book online and that a week before the event, a party coordinator would call me for the final confirmation. They offer three party packages. The cheapest is super basic. The next two include food, goodie bags and a return visit for the birthday kid. The difference between them is that the most expensive also includes game cards for the kids. All of the packages are for 10 adults and 10 kids, and guest over 65 and 11 months and under, are free. At least, this is what is supposed to happen. I received a text message five days before the event date from their, "party coordinator", that detailed extras to be purchased and what to do to make changes. I couldn't call anyone back and when I texted, I didn't not receive any response. I didn't hear from them again until the day before the party. They called in the morning while I was at work and left a message, and again I was unable to reach anyone. The day of the party, we arrived later than we would have liked because we were delayed at the bakery for the birthday cake. We did arrive 30 minutes before the event time but they would prefer you to arrive an hour before. I explained to the girl handling the party transactions that we had six guests that would be in attendance that were over 65 years old and I was told we would not have to pay for them. There were 10 kids in total and 19 adults. For whatever reason, they had my husband pay extra for 6 people when we should have only paid for 3 extra since 6 adults were over 65 years of age. One parent and child ended up paying for themselves which was wild. I did not realize this until it was too late, as my husband and I were in two different places, me, tending to the party room and him, greeting guests. When we were initially shown to the party room, I quickly decorated it in the theme my daughter requested before the event began. The person bringing the food was in a bit of a rush and wanted to bring it when people weren't even in the room yet. I asked that he wait 15 minutes and he ended up bringing the cart five minutes later. We ordered an extra "tray" of chicken fingers which is a ripoff - there were maybe 20 pieces of chicken in the box and it cost us $50. They only brought us 2 pizzas when the Deluxe package was supposed to include 3. I had to go and ask for condiments because none were brought. It's funny, because when we arrived, they knew exactly how much to charge us for the remaining balance but failed to ensure we received everything included in the Deluxe package. There was one employee, an older man that was working the kitchen (maybe the manager?) that was totally on point and he was our only blessing. Everyone else seemed to not care about their job and I just feel like maybe don't work in a kids' entertainment venue if you're going to half-ass everything. Our package included goodie bags for the kids, which I forgot about because they never gave them to us. I had theme-related goodie bags that the Billy Beez bags were supposed to also be added to. Half of the children left before I got them. I had to go to the front and ask for them. The girl tried to give me extra in an attempt to make up for forgetting to give them to us in the first place. They also forgot to give us the BB shirt for my daughter. I've gone to my cousins' kids' parties at places like this (in NJ) and I feel like they do way more at those places, including serving the pizza to the kids, cutting and serving the cake, and being in the room to help wrangle people to sing Happy Birthday. $500 is crazy to spend for staff to overcharge you, forget to give you items included in your package, to not adequately prepare you or even be available for contact prior to your event, and to not even be present to help with the event. What's included is an obviously broad description of what they actually do. Children are able to remain in the venue for as long as they'd like, so even after the 90 minute party room window, you can stay and use the facilities until they close, as long as you don't leave because there is no reentry. They did, however, allow us to go pack our stuff in the car and return. In the actual kiddie area where the children play, there are many older kids that are allowed to rough house which had me concerned. They were up there with kids much smaller than them, with no concern about their behavior. This spot is ghetto asf. The only saving grace is that neither my daughter nor any of the other children were the wiser. A two-star rating is two stars too many. We even tried contacting their company via the feedback submission form but no one has contacted us and it's been over 2 weeks. Customer service is definitely not their forté.

They never answer their phone to help with questions. We came on a whim. Looks clean and looks like kids had a great time. I couldn't take pics of kids cause I don't want other people to think im taking pics of there kids thats not kool.

Billy Beez is a massive playground of pipes, slides, and climbing zones with a few random areas of ball games and a small shooting room. A few random spills here and there were cleaned up relatively quickly by the staff, so that's good. Entry if you don't have a party - the line moves awfully slow. Socks on the equipment, and if you don't have them, a pair will go for $3 or $4 with the little sticky feet to have grip. There's a party check-in to the side, walk past the line and go get checked in. They allow you only to go in and not come back out (as a note) so it's hard for parents to drop off and then come back later to drag your kid out. Inside it's difficult to chase the little one around and figure out where they are - a little tracker system on the wrist would've been useful (RFID?). Anyway, the birthday was in one of the separate rooms in the back. Took forever for them to bring in the fruit, pizza and the cupcakes. Slow, and given they have a time limit of how long you are in the room, that could've been managed better. No sense of urgency in the staff as they wandered in and out. The back area has a food court you can get pizza and the snacks for a fee. Each kid in a party gets a little gift bag of random trinkets worth maybe a dollar or two. Overall I've had better experiences with locations like this where it's an indoor kid's playground. This one was slow and crazy...and far too hot. Parents were collapsed all over while the kids went crazy. I suppose that's what they aim for - a place to unleash the kids.

My son enjoyed this place. I don't really see the hype unfortunately. It's very difficult to keep an eye on your children when their running through the place at full speed. They did have a cool game that my son enjoyed. I plunked $10.00 worth of coins in that machine lol. Watching my son having fun on that game was definitely the highlight of the experience. Not much else.

This Billy Beez is trash compared to other locations outside the Bronx. The main concern is the lack of maintenance on worn-out and broken equipment. Wrote to the company with the concerns a few weeks ago and never heard back. Hopefully more people complain so Bronxites are heard, not ignored. Here are some pics of the broken crap I saw.

These include Community Centers, Field Houses, and Nature Centers and offer services such as indoor pools, weight rooms, basketball courts, dance studios, boxing rings, art studios, game rooms and libraries. The Hansborough center is mostly a gym/sport destination (though they are opening a computer room soon). I go here to work out - lifting weights, cardio on the machines, walking on the track, and sometimes swimming. They have a few classes and offer some after school stuff for kids. I don't know how crowded this place gets on evenings and weekends since I come in the middle of the day, but it seems well-used and therefore well kept. Plus, it's in a historic part of Harlem. The best thing is the price. $50/year for most centers, $75/year for ones with a pool. If you get a membership to one, you can visit ANY rec center in the system in any of the 5 boroughs. If you're looking for a place to work out and have basic needs, then a City Gym is a good choice. This one in particular if you live uptown. They're not all this nice, and the one in Chelsea is rumored to be even nicer. I'd do some investigating to see if the center near you is a place you'd spend time. If you come here, don't be fooled by the 134th street address. What you want to do is walk east along 135th (if you're coming from the B/C or 2/3 stations) until you come to Lennox Terrace apartment complex (just east of Malcolm X Blvd./Lennox Ave.). You'll see a little street that runs behind the building along the parking lot. Turn in there. The Rec center is on the left on a tiny strip of street labeled, helpfully, 134th. Don't confuse it with the Joseph Kennedy rec center at the end of the street.

If you're between the ages of 18-24, you pay only $25/year which is a great deal. I paid $75 for 6 months, and that gives me access to both this Rec Center and the Aquatic Center in Flushing Meadows Park, as well as, any affiliated Rec Center in the 5 boroughs. Plenty of parking available on the street, or you have the option of parking in their lot but there's limited spaces there. And underneath the highway, there's parking available there as well. Inside, once you scan in at the front desk, there's 3 rooms: cardio, free weights and multi-purpose machines. Down the center hall, there's 2 well maintained racquetball courts, and past that is a children's play room and the main gymnasium for basketball and ping pong, as well as, an indoor track. Their racquetball courts cost $7/hour, and the price includes a ball and racket. However, they don't accept cash strangely enough, only credit/debit and check. All 3 rooms are have pretty much the same dimensions..and I pretty much feel the same way about all of them: too small, during busy hours you feel really congested in there. A few of the machines in the multi-purpose room were out-of-order. Treadmills and elliptical machines are not well spaced out. Plus there's no air circulation of any kind making the air in the room really dense. Legit almost feels like a sauna in all 3 rooms. Locker rooms and rest rooms seem well maintained and are relatively clean. There's plenty of decent sized lockers available. Overall, an OKAY Rec Center that can definitely use some improvements!

We booked our child's birthday party here and it turned out to be one of the most frustrating experiences we've had. From the start, communication and customer service were poor. When we booked, we were told that to receive their 20% discount, the deposit had to be paid by cash or Zelle -- no credit cards accepted. We ended up sending a $300 deposit via Zelle. On the day of the party, we were unexpectedly told to pay the entire $944 up front, even though we had already paid a deposit. The staff said they would "refund" the deposit afterward, which was never clearly explained before. This caused unnecessary stress during setup since we had to gather additional cash right before guests arrived. During the event, there were several issues: We weren't asked to sign waivers until after the kids started playing, which interrupted the start of the party. The laser tag (included in our booking) wasn't ready -- the staff said the equipment was still charging. The staff's attitude was dismissive and unhelpful throughout. After the party ended, we stayed about 30 minutes to clean up the room -- something most places understand is part of the process. The next day, when we asked for our $300 deposit refund, we were told it was being withheld because we "stayed 50 minutes longer." That's unreasonable. We were cleaning up, not extending the party, and the children had mostly left. To make things worse, when we tried to discuss this issue, the staff was rude and unprofessional. The facility itself wasn't well maintained -- we even found garbage in the ball pit. Between the lack of communication, poor management, and the unfair way they handled the deposit, I cannot recommend this business to anyone. There are so many better options that actually value their customers. Spend your money elsewhere -- you'll get better service and less stress.
