12 small craft brews that were all exceptionally delicious and harder to come by than the staples you see at most "craft brew bars". Can I say it again? I LOVE their selections or beers and I adored even more that I could see all the kegs in the back that were pretty much up and coming to the tap.... I'll be back in order to try some of the amazing tock in storage. The food... well hot damn... for run of the mill bar food with excellent prices...the boyfriend and I were quite impressed. The 50/50 burgers were so fricken yummy.. we could have probably ordered 5 orders of them! The chicken wings with bbq sauce, cheddar cheese and bacon... holy crap! What a combo and the BBQ wasn't all sweetness either it had a nice little bite of hotness and just the right amount of sauce. We will be back soon... even if its a 2 hour drive. The only thing that could have given this place a five was improved service from the wait staff. We were obviously sharing our basket portioned food but they did not offer us our own baskets to eat over and they checked on us very lacksadaisy like... we were sitting at the bar... there's never a reason to forget us. read more

I just ordered carry out and I'm extremely disappointed. This was my boyfriend and I's favorite place to eat and they really dropped the ball this time. The first issue was with the carry out process. We ordered through GrubHub and chose to pick up at the store. We arrived in the parking lot at our pick up time and called inside for someone to bring it out. When we called, the girl told us that she couldn't find our order even after giving her our name, how we ordered, and the order number. She told us she would call back when she located our order. We waited for 10 minutes and never got a call back. We went inside and had to wait even longer to speak to someone about our order. They had problems locating our order but eventually found it. By the time this was all said and done, it took 20 minutes to get our food and it was cold by the time we got it. The food was also disappointing. We ordered Fried Mac and Cheese, Sticky Nuggs, French fries, the Greg Brady and Fried Chicken Sliders and Tots. My boyfriend noted that the portion of fries was a third of what it is at the restaurant and the tots were a half of the normal portion. The Fried Chicken slider had a piece of chicken on it the size of a chicken nugget. The Greg Brady was decent but lackluster. The Sticky Nuggs were extremely overcooked and burned. The Fried Mac and Cheese was the only item that was up to the usual par except it was cold. We are severely disappointed and this experience has made us not want to go back. read more

I've never been to Billy Jack's and left disappointed. No matter the time of day or day of the week, it is a great time! My boyfriend and I have turned Billy Jacks into our go-to place, even sometimes coming to celebrate anniversaries because we are both obsessed with the food! While though isn't healthy, if you're looking for a delicious and hearty meal this place is the place to go! The decorations and set up is also super cool. Nice place to sit out and eat/drink. I would say that they probably cater more to drinking than eating, as the food was interesting, but taste was average at best. Disclosure: This review is not for wings... I didn't have any while I was there. As a JMU alum back in town I found this spot to be awesome! Large craft beer selection and the prices were great. The ambiance & decor was nice too... it had the feel of a bar that had been in town for ages instead of one that had just opened up a few weeks before. And the waitresses walk around with cups of bacon strips for customers to snack on... can't get better than that! Ok and the donuts were to die for... seriously the best donuts I've ever had. I'm kicking myself as it has taken me a long time to visit Billy Jack's. This place is awesome. Really chill and laid back but clean and comfortable. Almost a dive bar. Good combo of JMU students and townies. We were bar hopping through downtown and stopped in for some awesome draft beers (as well as a full bar to please some of the non-craft-beer inclined in our group). I had the vanilla porter...excellent. Most tables have a great view of the TVs above the bar. We went to Ruby's for a few hours, then found our way back to Billy Jack's. I tried the Sexual Chocolate, dark and smooth. Next ordered a basket of fries to share and went with the $3.50 PBR...this large goblet/small fish bowl was an awesome find. Went for lunch, family of five with 3 girls under 7. We were immediately greeted & politely informed of their lack of kids menu but that they were accommodating with appropriate sized sliders and such - Despite not having a kids menu they did have a bar height highchair for our 3yr old - (the tables are pub height before you judge me about having kids at a bar ) Our server Michael was super attentive, interacted with the kids - taking the oldest's order directly and making her feel so mature. The other staff working was friendly and interacted with our group as well. We ordered donuts & burgers...and then more donuts! Food was delicious, even the kids ate the burgers! Beer was cold, no one minded my loud children, staff was friendly...if they'd had a room to rent we would have stayed the night! We will return if ever in the area again and definitely recommend a visit if you find yourself hungry (or thirsty) in their neighborhood. read more

Food was nothing special ... and honestly we didn't even touch the loaded cheese fries - what sounds delicious was an absolute fail on their part (soggy fries, terrible plastic-like melted cheese). Our waitress was honestly the best part of the experience, very delightful and ended up taking the fries off the bill once we didn't touch them after the second time of them redoing them. We did however have a terrible experience with the two braids gal bartender. When it took a while to get a drink list at our table we went to the bar to ask what they had on tap- a rude reply came from the bartender "we don't serve you at the tables!" Yeah... it was so over-heard that one of the patrons sitting at the bar sent a beer to our table on the house because they felt so bad. We honestly almost left after that since we had yet to order anything at that point. First impressions ... but we decided to stay, maybe the gal was having a bad day. But it's true about the beer, we enjoyed it very much. It appeared to have a happy hour special from 3-6, which included raw oysters for 1.00. So disappointed it was only 2:30. They had a 10 napkin burger. My wife and I have embarked on an oft-Yelp-propelled culinary journey. She and I travel a great deal, and enjoy better-than-usual dining experiences. Rather than exit a thruway at stomach's first growl to be victimized by the 'hit-and-run' fare that often passes for food around exit ramps, we use Yelp to guide us to high-rated places within 10 minutes of the thruway. This was one of them. Any doubt that Harrisonburg is a college town disappears upon entering this fine establishment. From the floor to ceiling, this place is clearly set up to appeal to the sports/college crowd. The decibel level (my only complaint) was appropriate to the clientele as well. My wife (a commercial interior designer) marveled at why the management didn't put some slightly-better acoustic treatment on the walls or ceilings (and had to raise her voice to point that out). If you're looking for a quiet, romantic dinner for two, this ain't it. But 5 stars is how I rated this one, and there's a reason for that. Everything else was perfect, absolutely perfect. From the server's attentive, enthusiastic service, to the absolutely stunning food combinations, presentations, and of course, taste, we concluded that it just didn't get much better. Of course I had a burger, and although I do not consider myself a burger 'connoisseur,' per se, the burgers and fries here are simply awesome, not just in size, but in flavor. My wife would vouch for the rarity of my exclaiming "TBO" out loud in a restaurant, but I did so here - in a slightly-raised voice so my wife could hear me... ;) Food, service, drinks, ... everything. We are locals and just ate here for the first time a few weeks ago. This place is phenomenal! It was such great food and wonderful service and actually family friendly! My husband and I got the sweet chili sticky nuggs to share, they were amazing!!! We also got chili cheese fries to share, also amazing! Then we had the sliders, we both got a crab cake slider and then he had the wagyu beef slider which was delicious! I think next time I will just get 2 of those and call it a day! My other slider was the Greg Brady which has their house-made Mac-and-cheese on it and Martins potato chips, it was good but I thought the Wagyu beef was better! We ordered 2 of their famous donuts to-go and I highly highly recommend those! They were simply divine! read more

This is a lovely little place to grab brunch - and everyone knows it! We arrived right at the right time to snag a seat at the bar, and not five minutes later a large group of people showed up and the place was packed. When you walk up their outdoor sign says 'home of the sticky nuggs' and MAN are they good. We opted for the sweet thai chili sauce, and I wish we had gotten another one for once we were home. Billy Jack's offered a decent listing for brunch cocktails, brunch fare, and your regular lunch items. Next time we go back I plan to be slightly less hungover, so I can enjoy the experience even more ;) read more

Yum! I love Billy Jack's! My favorite part about this place is the casual, but interestingly decorated, atmosphere. There's so much to look at while you're waiting for your food. The service is great too! I've been here for dinner and Sunday brunch and both are delicious. The brunch portions aren't huge but they were just enough for me. For brunch I would recommend the biscuits and gravy (soooo good) and for dinner I'd recommend the sticky nugs. Try the Mac and cheese bites too! Billy Jacks isn't super fancy but it's good food at a good price. I'll definitely be coming back! :) read more

Thought they would've had more of the "local" beer selection since there are so many breweries- hence the 4 stars. We liked how you fill out a checklist to build your own burger so it basically can not get screwed up. Their wings are relatively average as wings go; fine but not outstanding. Their sticky nuggs and loaded fries are nice, though. Service is pretty good, and there's always a good vibe at the place. The short: waffles and beer were tasty. Seating isn't conducive to family style dinning. We tried the chicken and waffles, wings and chicken burger. The waffles were tasty and fluffy and the chicken was seasoned and fried perfectly. The wings were a tad over fried. And the chili sauce was just ok. The chicken burger was ok too. The sitting is very uncomfortable. All of the tables and chairs are wood and bar height. We had our toddler with us so we had to balance her on our knee...but I guess it works for a college town. Stopped in one fine afternoon for a wee bit of lunch, and found the funkiest menu this side of Walla Walla Whackamole. Ordered a split of sliders (50/50 slider with beef/bacon) and BBQ Chicken slider. My friend had the house wings, which were a good reason to mention "Wing" in the name of the place. Extremely well done. Maybe a wee bit loud. Even with the place barely full, one table was taken up by screeching college kids who sounded like they might be getting beaten to death by one of the cool serving plates on the ceiling. Or maybe I'm just too old and set in my ways for a place this cool... I'll be back because I desperately want to try the donuts. read more

Evenings and weekends gets packed where there are no seats, which sucks because it is crowded with tables and chairs to begin with, making it hard to get around, but If you're into that, go for it! Sticky nugs and 50/50 sliders is all you really need to know!!!! The atmosphere is awesome and go early so you can get a table. The place is usually packed at night and for good reason. If you just want beers then they definitely have a huge selection for you. AKA you beer snobs! The owner of this restaurant also owns jack browns which is next door, so check them both out.
