I first dined at Billy Ray's over 30 yrs ago. in the early '90s when I lived in Oklahoma, it was my go to barbecue. So returning after all this time, it was great to find that nothing had changed. They excel on Bar-B-Q and Catfish as their name implies but I'd like to also give a shout out to their fried chicken salad which is hands down the best I've ever had. First, it's huge, with a LOT of the crispiest, moistest, fried chicken you've ever had. It also has these super thin, crispy tortilla strips that add a wonderful crunchy texture and flavor. The most delicious catfish and ribs and beaked beans and okra and hush puppies and relished tomatoes you'll ever eat!!! You have to start with good fish or stay out of the business. This has been our go to BBQ place for awhile now. Our last visit fell way short from our normal experience. Food over cooked and service was subpar to put it nicely. Unfortunately, we will take our business/money elsewhere. So disappointing. read more

Arrived at Billy Rays and greeted with a friendly staff member. We ordered the Half Rack of ribs with french fries, coleslaw, and corn on the cob. All served with a slice of bread, dill pickle chips and a banana pepper. Service was quick and our server was awesome. The Ribs were tasty and the larger sized ribs were moist and tender. However, the smaller two ribs were a bit dry and chewy. The coleslaw was excellent, fries were good and fresh cooked. Corn had a bit of a sour taste, which was immediately replaced with sincere apologies. We opted to skip a replacement offer. We stopped in to Billy Ray's on the way out of town for an overnighter in OKC. It was going to be well past 8pm before we hit OKC and I didn't want to eat that late. As it happened, traffic on the highway was a parking lot due to the interchange construction, so I jumped off to SW Blvd to take the "short cut". Seeing Billy Ray's was still open, we opted to get a bite to eat there. Overall, it was a fairly good experience. The staff were great. Friendly, always checking on us, made us feel welcome. The Wife got a 2 meat combo with tabouli and baked beans, while I went with The Assortment, which was chopped brisket, sausage, ribs and catfish, also with tabouli and baked beans. Overall, the food was pretty good. The sausage was hands down the best thing on the plate, with the catfish a close second. While quite good, the catfish piece went in about 3 bites, so that was a bit of a letdown. The ribs (all 2 of them) were pretty fair. Once was a little dry, but the other one made up for it. The brisket was more or less a filler, as it really didn't have much flavor to it at all. The tabouli and beans were outstanding. The Wife, as usual, had eyes far bigger than her belly, and ate about 1/3 of hers, so I also got to have a go at the pulled pork and bologna. Both of which were also pretty fair. The pulled pork had a decent flavor, but was fairly dry, a chronic condition with pulled pork it seems. The bologna was well flavored and seemed to be lightly smoked and thinly sliced. The one thing that struck me odd, being a veteran of many a BBQ joint was the total absence of BBQ sauce on any table. Not one table had a bottle of sauce, and the pulled pork could have really benefitted from it. I didn't ask for any because there were only a handful of bites left, so I'm not dinging the server... I just found it odd. Overall, Billy Ray's is a pretty good place. I think the AYCE catfish would an awesome thing to try, since the one lone, skinny piece I did have was pretty good. Not sure I'd make this a destination from Owasso, but if I happened to be in the neighborhood, I wouldn't say no. read more

People were nice, however the brisket in my chopped brisket sandwich was pretty flavorless and dry, the bun fell apart almost immediately. Speaking of catfish the catfish fillets are cut into strips you can get an all-you-can-eat option for $13 or you can get the big order for 12.99. Delicious catfish! Huge pieces that are breaded to perfection and don't have the typical muddy taste of catfish. Loved the coleslaw and potato salad as well! This is our go to for eating catfish. It is the best and the service is great. Waitresses and staff are friendly and make sure you are taken care of. We try and go at least once a week and everytime we go, the place is full. I guess that speaks for itself. They have the best brown beans also. Well I have to say they had great customer service, however the food was not desirable what so ever . Look when I think of BBQ , I'm wanting to be able to get some collard greens, Mac n cheese maybe even some sweet potatoes soufflé and some ribs that have a smoke ring and when you touch the meat you can jerk the bone right out from under it. Just don't know where to start! Staff was fine. Water was good. BBQ left a bit to be desired. Wife and I both had the Assorted plate. Fish was the highlight. She gave me hers! Good! Bread was next thing on my wife's plate that got good marks. (Her comment) They've got something that was ground up like taco meat with BBQ sauce poured on! Horrible! Just horrible. Not sure what it supposed to be.. Ribs were way over cooked and dry as the bone they stuck to. Sausage was some cheap unknown brand with absolutely no flavor, except for the BBQ sauce. BBQ sauce is very good, but if you need it then the cooking has gone bad! Do not smother my food with BBQ sauce! Hides the taste of the meat. Beans were pork n beans with brown sugar, that wasn't warm. Tabouli, wet and runny. Not good at all! My sweet potato was good! Cooked to perfection and hot enough to melt butter. Nothing wrong with the location or the way the building looks. Friendly wait staff and good at their job. The food is good as long as you don't use the sauce. I've heard people brag about how good the sauce is. I find the sauce tastes more like titanium dust in place of spices and herbs.
