This is a hidden gem of Pan-Asain cuisine in the Italian food district. I always get the General Tse Chicken and it is awesome. By the way I love spicy food, so if you don't, don't order General Tse Chicken. Sushi here is pretty good, not the best I've had. I was staying at a local hotel in town and the front desk person suggested takeout/delivery from here since I was staying in after a late arrival. They told me 45 minutes and they were exact. I ordered the egg roll, chicken won ton soup and the Chinese noodles shanghai style. I didn't know 2 egg rolls came with the order and I'm glad it did because it was $5.50. The egg rolls were tasty but very greasy. I mean very very greasy. The soup was tasty and the noodles were very good. Plenty of shrimp and pork in the noodles dish. Great place to catch up with friends for lunch or dinner - good atmostphere. The other night, my sons and I ordered take out - very traditional. The chicken wonton soup was FANTASTIC; as were the dumplings (peking ravioli) and the scallion pancakes. We loved it. However, pork fried rice was lacking in flavor unfortunately. Billy Tse's is our go to place when we order Chinese take out. Yes it is a little overpriced, but we are never disappointed with our food and we never feel gross after eating. The sesame chicken is my favorite dish, and definitely worth trying! For the first time last week, we finally went in to sit down and eat. The service was great, and the restaurant was clean. Living in the North End, i was looking forward to having a non-italian option close by. I picked up takeout sushi for my roommate and I. We ordered a variety of rolls, and we both agreed that everything we got was great. Everything was fresh and even the presentation was awesome. I stopped in a few weeks later for takeout again, this time to try a Chinese entree (I ordered the sesame bean curd.) it was probably the worst Chinese takeout I've ever ordered. The dish was too sweet, greasy, and nearly $12 for a moderate portion, no rice included. It was so bad I threw half of it out. My colleagues and I walk to Billy Tse for lunch from time to time. They pretty consistently serve generous portions of very good food, and everyone has always been pleased. I've had a number of the chinese dishes, they've all been excellent. I've had some basic sushi and some sashimi, they've also been excellent. Tempura was slightly overdone, but was still tasty. I have never posted a review but after the experience last night, I knew I had to. I ordered food for delivery at 6pm; it finally arrived at 7:40pm. I was told it would be 45 mins to an hour. When we opened the food the chicken in the fried rice was raw; inedible. And the sesame chicken was some sort of chicken substitute; also inedible. We spent $45 for 2 orders of sesame chicken, a side order of chicken fried rice and a side of brown rice. We threw it all away in fear f being made sick. I called the restaurant to tell them, and when I let them know, they put me on hold and never came back. I wanted to be sure no one else would be served the raw chicken. We never heard back. We had eaten at Billy's many times when we were residents of Boston 7 yrs ago and always liked it. Unfortunately, we will never be going back. We ended up getting pizza from Whole Foods last night- which proved to be the safer choice. read more

Yum! I was very happy with the sushi here. I would go back on a very regular basis, but it's a little on the pricey side. We ordered the special roll of the day and it was by far the most amazing of them all, so listen to what they have for specials. We also had crab rangoons (because why not...). Those were tasty as well (when are they not?), but nothing to write home about. I've gotten take out, and again, the sushi was tasty. I wasn't impressed with the Lo Mein and probably would stay away from it in the future. There wasn't anything wrong with it, but it just wasn't worth the price. While Douzo and Oishii get all the accolades for best sushi in Boston, Billy Tse's may take the cake in our household. The sushi always tastes very fresh and is incredibly well-made. They have a diverse array of special rolls, and the standard maki are all very, very good as well. We went from being skeptical of ordering sushi from this Italian neighborhood to literally ordering takeout from there at least 2x a month. Our favorite rolls are the red lion and twin spicy, but quite frankly, we've never been steered wrong here. Everything is good. Edamame, miso soup, you name it. I also usually order the Japanese Avocado Seafood Salad for the next day's lunch. It preserves well and the dressing is incredible. Only reason I'm not giving them 5 stars is because it is a tad pricey. It won't break the bank, and cheap sushi is always a roll of the dice, but I feel like some of the special rolls, while awesome, are a overpriced by a couple dollars. read more

As the only true Asian restaurant in a sea of Italian trattorias, this fine establishment serves as a metaphor for my life in the North End. Yes, I too am the only good looking Asian guy in the North End (Cambodian to be exact). It can be lonely and you sometimes stick out like a sore thumb, but really, when you're food is impeccable and you're service goes above and beyond, there really is no comparison...I think I'm still talking about the restaurant? Anyways, I've heard about Billy's for a while now, but never thought twice about going in because really, a sushi bar in the North End? Plus, I've been spoiled with Oishii take-out. But (oh it's a big BUT my dear, fellow Yelper), as I was doing my daily run after work (OK, I've done it about 5 times since I've lived there and I really only run about 5 blocks before my asthma kicks in and I end up walking around the outskirts of the neighborhood, trying to find my favorite George Michael song on my iPod, before I jog the remaining two blocks back to my apartment) when I came across Billy's; the sashima and hand rolls looked pretty good on this cute girl's plate, so I decided to come back after I showered, put on my favorite Tufts sweat-pants and splashed on some Stetson (I was pimping, and according to my boys in Three 6 Mafia, "It ain't easy being a pimp"). I pulled into a bar stool and went to town: soft-shell crab maki, unagi maki, salmon skin special maki (yes, I said salmon skin (think delicious fried chicken skin, but on fish) don't hate), Tako, Tabiko and some Torro (what I like to call the triple-T combo). If this was middle-school, I would have compared my dinner that night to my first "Seven-minutes in heaven" closet making-out session at Emily Jenning's birthday party (it was that special)...dude, screw Oishii; too many people know about it now, which fyi, still ticks me off. You can find the good looking Cambodian guy at Billy Tse's eating great sushi in the North End in his Tufts University sweatpants and old, smelly rugby shirt (that's why I wear so much Stetson). I was introduced to this restaurant, which is actually located in the North End (go figure!), as a Sophmore in college and it ruined me for life! It ruined me in the sense that every other sushi restaurant I encounter now never compares to the perfection I experienced (and still continue to experience) at Billy Tse's. The warm smiles that greet you when you arrive to the extensive menu of Chinese and Japanese cuisine (above and beyond sushi), Billy Tse's is one of the most underated restaurants in Boston. I always order sashimi and their chefs create masterpieces that are second to none. If you like it hot, try their Rocket Soup. Their bartender has been there for years so if you get to know him, you will have a friend there for life. And if you get a chance, ask for Howard, he is the Maitre di who will remember your name, occupation and significant others occupation even if you don't see him for a year - he truly is amazing! Sushi in itself is expensive so make sure to come with some extra money, but you can a save a few bucks on parking when you get your ticket validated if you park across the street for dinner. I can never say enough great things about this place! I have introduced all of my friends and family to this place, and now they are hooked too. Thank goodness the North End has Billy Tse's to offer some variety against all the Italian restaurants! The bar at Billy's is always a diverse, friendly group and the bartenders are attentive. In the dining room, service is generally courteous and quick. I prefer Billy's for takeout but mainly because I live nearby. Their sushi is consistently good (I order from here weekly), and, though I'm not a big Chinese food eater, I have to admit that I enjoy their beef teriyaki. Bland tired uninspired curry chicken. It is listed as a special. Do better, Billy. Do not list a dish as a special and then neglect to make it special or even ordinary or even sub par. Same for the Shanghai noodles. The soy sauce I added seemed to be the only spice or condiment. Will never return. read more
