I'm so disappointed! We used DoorDash app which is great because you can order from anywhere but Billy Tse was a disgrace. My sister & I are locals in the North End and we ALWAYS order from our spot, China House on Hanover Street. Sunday evening, however, we really wanted that sit down vibe, which China House does not offer. We were (surprised?) to see so many people on Christmas day close to 8:00pm sitting down. Brought my friend with me who has never had Chinese food on Christmas (this is a typical Xmas day tradition, "movie & Chinese") I shared the sesame chicken & thai fried rice. - They have my favorite Chardonnay by the glass (Simi) for $8 - Their sushi tastes fresh, although I've been sketched out by their yellowtail scallion roll on two occasions... but the salmon, tuna and rainbow rolls have all been consistently good with fresh avocado and lovely presentation - My boyfriend had their General Tsao Chicken last time we went and really liked it- we could tell the chicken was white meat and it was cooked just right. The best thing I think I've had there so far though are the potstickers. HOLY MOLY. Get 'em pan fried, you won't be sorry!! We'll be back, I'm sure. I ordered food from this place and payed with my card by phone, when the driver came to my home they wanted me to pay again. We showed them proof of payment on our bank account and they would lot leave the door without the food. Needed to get police involved. FRAUD ALERT! Dined at Billy Tse's in mid-November 2013 for a work luncheon. The food was subpar, most notably the lo mein noodles were dry and seemed like they had been put under a heat lamp for hours due their low moisture content/crunchiness. The tab came to over $100 for our large party. No big deal there. We all chipped in with a combination of 20's, 5's, and 1's to cover the bill and tip. Without divulging anyone's identity let's just say my colleagues pay great attention to detail in monetary matters. They counted the total pile of cash 3 times to ensure we had left the correct amount. Our server then picked up the bill/cash and walked about 20 feet to the cash register. Without opening the drawer, she fumbled around (with her back to us) for about 10-15 seconds (POCKETING two $20 bills) and replaced them with one $10 bill. Again, nobody in our party had a $10 bill to begin with. She then returned to our table and said that we were $30 short. The "mysterious $10 was added to our pile of cash with two $20 bills missing....basically the amount we had left for HER tip. With the "revised by Billy Tse" pile of cash she brought back, she claimed we "owed" $30...that we had already paid. As nobody wanted to make a fuss in front of co-workers, we paid the "Billy Tse Gouging Fee" of $30 and walked out. Disgusted. That will be the last time I ever pay them a cent. I advise that you learn from our mistake and move on to one of the (far better) eateries in the area that are forcing these fraudulent folks to stoop so low in their last ditch effort to generate revenue. Their food isn't bringing in cash, so stealing is apparently all they have left. If I had more time, I would contact the MA Attorney General, but I feel that Yelp will be just as effective. Won't return to Billy Tse's anytime soon after an incident a couple of months ago. I ordered pieces of the tuna and salmon sashimi at the restaurant. The meal felt pleasant and I thought the food was great.... until a few hours later. While walking on Newbury Street I felt a tightness in my stomach. Luckily I had a friend living in the area and used his bathroom for at least a couple of hours. Yikes! I did vomit and a doctor diagnosed me with the flu from the sushi. We went for drinks on a Friday around 5 PM. It seemed like a slow time for them. The waitstaff was all on their cellphones just sitting around. It took us a while for someone to come greet us and give us menus. Once a server was assigned to us, things were great. Our server was friendly. We each got a martini and it was well priced at $10.00 each. The ginger martini was great. The spider roll was also delicious. I'd go here again and try out the food next time. read more

I live in the South End near Chinatown and usually head there for Chinese food. However, I happened to be downtown after work and we were craving Chinese food. I was reluctant to come here since who comes into the North End for Chinese food?? Apparently I will from now on. My sushi was delicious and fresh as was my tuna tartar. We also ordered more traditional Chinese food that was good - spare ribs, chicken fingers, fried rice, teriyaki. What was most impressive, a man who I suspect is the owner, came over to ask how everything was. That was so unlike other Chinese restaurants I've been to. Well done and many kudos. So much for what I thought was our usually good meal for Chinese. Just had lunch... Sad! Ordered chicken and broccoli and it came to table in less than 1 minute! I felt the top and it was warm, but inside was cold, jelly-fiyed!!! It tasted like left over microwave food. The waiter disagreed and even was rude. So he brings a woman out which she explains everything is cooked fresh and if I want to go back in the kitchen to show me.....really? I've tried the sushi and I've tried the Chinese food. The sushi is average. A little on the pricy side, especially considering that there's nothing too outstanding about it. The Chinese food, on the other hand, is pretty rockin'. This Americanized Chinese food so don't go in thinking it's hard core Chinese food. Still, I hate Americanized Chinese food since it's usually so greasy and oily. Even if I do get Americanized Chinese, it's always vegetarian since the meat is usually the worst cuts and full of grizzle. After peeking over and seeing other people's meals, I decided to go for a Chinese dish. I ended up ordering Sesame Chicken, and I have to say it's pretty tasty. Best Sesame Chicken I've had in awhile. The chicken was tasty and didn't taste like leftover parts. I left quite satisfied. While the prices may seem a little high for the Chinese, you should know it's served family style, so portions are massive. If you go with someone else, it's best to just order one dish. If doing takeout, you can surely have it for three meals. The one thing I didn't like is that it felt like the staff, especially the male staff were very in your face. I feel like there should be space consideration and there isn't. It also feels like the staff is always looking for you to get more, so you'd think with them so on top of you that you'd get your water glass refilled often. Not the case. So three stars because the service is iffy. Three and a half stars for the sushi and four and a half stars for the American Chinese food. read more

No. Just...no. It really isn't good. The first time I came here, I made the mistake of ordering sushi. It was below average, but I blamed myself more than the restaurant. I should have known not to go for sushi at a fusion place. For my second experience at this not-so-lovely establishment, so much time had passed that I had forgotten the name of the restaurant and unfortunately agreed to go back. Luckily, I did remember to not order sushi again. But the Chinese food (sesame chicken, to be exact) was such a disappointment, even more so than the sushi. It was a big plate of little bits of fried chicken rolled around in sweet sauce. That is not my idea of a dinner. The seaweed salad that started off my meal was so salty I went through about three glasses of water to balance it out. And at the end of our meal, we sat with our plates in front of us for about a half an hour before anything was cleared. The only plus? There was a little bowl of minty chocolates at the hostess stand on our way out, so at least things ended on a high note. read more

If you live in the North End area, you will quickly find that there is a serious shortage of sushi/asian places. While this place is not the best sushi in town, it is a good staple for the North End and can be trusted for consistency. Ate at this restaurant for lunch in early 2009. OMG, beyond terrible. First of all, the mixed drink I ordered tasted like a mouthful of chemicals. Waaaay too much mix. I sent it back and asked for red wine. But the waiter wouldn't give me red wine! He brought me chilled white wine and mumbled something unintelligible. He was a stalker - kept coming to the table to interrupt the conversation with incomprehensible garble. Very frustrating. The food was horrible. The salad was tiny and anything but fresh. Barely passable Chinese food, average/below-average for most items. Service was terrible, I was there with my 4yo and 1yo, and was made to wait more than 10 minutes after sitting down before anyone showed up to get our order, and another 10 minutes at the end after asking for the check. I'm not one to leave reviews but felt the need to here. The food was mediocre.. we expected better considering some reviews. But my biggest qualm is the fact that I bit into a spring roll and had a big chunk of plastic in my mouth, presumably from a cooking utensil. I'm talking at least an inch long of solid black plastic. On calling the restaurant they said they don't use cooking utensils with spring rolls (hello, the filling?), and offered to refund me $6-ish for my order, despite having spent close to $80. It would also be nice if the descriptions were a little more clear.. expected the crispy short rib app to be more like a burnt end.. not breaded and deep fried. I'm not sure where the trend of having both Chinese and Japanese food in the same restaurant is coming from. They are two different countries with two different cultures! It's especially weird that Billy Tse also serves Korean food. Even while typing this, my face scrunched up, making an expression that clearly says, "huh?" Don't get me wrong, I love the idea of mixing up crab rangoon and raw tuna as much as the next person. It's just confusing to live in the North End and have one spot to fill all of my Asian-food needs. The noodle dishes are amazing. They are also great as leftovers. Some Chinese food doesn't last, or gets oily in the fridge, but these noodles are great cold drunk OR sober. That's saying a lot. One compliant that I do have is that they recently raised the prices. My roommate, brother, and I placed an order for sushi, and not a huge amount because we were sober, and the total was $75! Um, what? I have a menu right here that says it should be way less! In sum, because I live right by there, I will continue to order it. Once in a while, I may crave it. But I wouldn't recommend taking a trip to the North End for it. We have better places around that specialize in one ethnic food. read more

We went here about 1pm in the afternoon and the place was dead. They were doing some maintenance work near the entry and someones tools were strewn all over the place. We got the lunch menu and there was no egg rolls or hot and sour soup so I asked if they had any and they said yes, so they brought it out. The food was below average and very slow service. In a sea of Itallian resturants Billy Tse's is my only haven for good Japanese/Chinese food in the North End. There is only one other place on Hanover and I'm pretty sure they put two tablespoons of cancer in every dish they serve. Billy's on the other hand offers a solid sushi bar, great General Gao's chicken and an excellent szechuan beef. Two thumbs up.. you can't go wrong. read more

Billy Tse's food is decent. It's not authentic chinese food, but it's better than average for American chinese food. We ordered the fried calamari and spare ribs to start...and wow. Their portions were huge! By the the time the four of us got our entrees we were half full. :P The waiter brought us out the malaysian eggplant, pad thai, double thai delight and the sesame chicken. The yummiest of the them all was the sesame chicken. Mmmm..it was fried but not greasy, sweet and tangy. Next time I go, I'm definitely gonna get me some of that chicken. You know what? I really haven't had a lot of amazing Chinese food here in Boston which is very disappointing. I've had a lot of amazing ASIAN food, but the Chinese food had always left something to be desired. However, thanks to Billy Tse's (which is right near where I work) my belly is consistently full of yummy, fresh, hot, delicious Chinese food. However, they also offer up basic-but-fresh sushi, thai food and other treats. My favorite foods are most definitely the Billy Tse's chicken, Sesame Chicken and the Thai Noodle--though this is a great, cheap after work spot for anyone in the North End on the Waterfront. Great to hang out in the bar, order some PuPu platters and hang out for a few hours chatting up your coworkers. Excellent. I also recommend that if you're in the North End and tired of pasta to come here during lunch. Their 7$ lunch specials will fill your tummy. I love the portions--Entrees come with a side of LoMein or Fried Rice. Also, they're fast, friendly, and the restaurant is clean and comfortable--and there is plenty of seating. Great for groups and a company lunch! :D Hot Tip: Billy Tse's Chicken is not in the "lunch" menu but if you call and ask for it--ask for the lunch anyway and they'll hook you up! read more

Our work group came here the week before christmas for a team lunch. The restaurant always looked deserted on the outside so I wasn't surprised it was completely empty when we came in. Plenty of waitstaff milled around though--the noisy chinese being yelled back and forth more than made sure we were aware. We were seated at a big table right in the center before a waitress came by and asked if we could finish by 1pm for another party that was coming in. We ended up getting switched over to a flimsy booth that kept buckling because there was no wall behind it. Food came out in random order. I got the salmon, a couple of coworkers got the chef's choice sushi, and others got noodles. My salmon came out overcooked and doused in a sauce that was way too sweet and sticky. there was approximately three string beans beneath the salmon, and it does not come with rice. Friends who got the soup said it was too salty. The sushi ended up being small lackluster cucumber rolls (surprise!). One redeeming quality came for friends who got the noodles. That came as a big portion...although the chicken that was a part of it was small. (I mistook them for pieces of garlic). My review certainly does not reflect the views of my friends. I will not be back here for the overpriced and less the good food. read more

Terrible service! With so few places that deliver to the Waterfront areas the past, Billy Tse became our go to place and we ordered from them 2-3x a month for the last 15 years, even though the food was pretty mediocre. We easily spend $2500-$3000 a year there (yes we love Chinese food). Even though we live only ten minutes away, last night our order took an hour and a half to deliver! When I called to complain I learned that they sent their driver to Charlestown first, despite us being one of their best customers and right next door. Well we are customers no longer. WIth DoorDash, grub hub, ubereats all providing many more optIons with much better food we are done with this place. read more

Billy Tse's was the first sushi place i tried in Boston. It's not bad. The sushi is decent, however, we've had a few times when the fish was not very fresh. The other non Sushi Japanese dishes are pretty good. I like the ambiance and it's location in the North End is pretty convenient for us. With all that said, we haven't been back to Billy Tse's since we discovered some of the other sushi places in town. There are much better options for a similar price. read more

Ordered some Chinese delivery for the office the day after Christmas. I was excited that they delivered to our office in the Financial District. We ordered a ton of food and it came on time. Took about 45 minutes from the time we called to delivery at our office. We ordered the standard sampling of Chinese food. We even ordered a delicious sushi roll which I was surprised they carried. All the food was fine, they provided all the plates and utensils we needed. All in all it hit the spot but was pretty generic, which I was isn't a bad thing when you are looking for a good plate of Chinese. On a side note I preferred the sesame chicken to the General Tse's. read more

I'm so very surprised by all the good reviews for this place. It's making me think we've ordered the wrong items. We had their lunch specials the other day and it was quite mediocre at best. The Lo Mein noodles totally sucked and lacked any flavor nor veggies. The stir-fried sides were tasty, but nothing extraordinary. However, the service was super speedy and friendly. The view and location is great, but it's going to take a lot more than prime location to please me. p.s. I suppose it's just me, but the combo of sushi and chinese food doesn't really work for me. Went to BT's on Christmas night for some Chinese food. I must say, I loved it! Drinks and food were really tasty. Portions are pretty big as well. Our service was good as well. The only drawback is that it's in the north end and the parking is scarce if you aren't a resident. I'll definitely be back though! read more

While I am open to try almost any food at any restaurant, I also try to keep a healthy dose of skepticism. And to me, Billy Tse's really got some skepticism before I tried it. A Chinese/Japanese/Pan-Asian place, in the North End? I thought, "oh great, here I go wasting another $40." But I must say, the quality of the food really impressed me. I was with a group, and so we sampled a lot of food, and all of it was cooked (or not-cooked, as the case may be) to perfection. We started out with fried tofu that was absolutely amazing. While the outside retained a solid consistency, the inside melted in your mouth, and was full of flavor. And on top of the dish was a colorful assortment of ginger that complemented the dish perfectly. Following this, we had coconut shrimp. The shrimp came in a delicious sweet glaze sauce, and was dusted with finely shaved coconut. This dish was like a plate of candy, in a good way. Each bite of shrimp exploded with flavor. For my main course, I sampled several types of nigiri-style sushi and a scallop hand roll. The quality of the fish was as good as I have had in Boston (similar in quality to Fugakyu), especially the toro (fatty tuna). My co-diners ordered an assortment of entrees, ranging from grilled eel to fried rice, from shrimp tempura to stir-fried vegetables and tofu. All were delicious. The only complaint I heard was that the portions on the eel dish were a little skimpy, especially given the price. For that dish, you are probably better off going to Chinatown. On the whole, Billy Tse's is a great alternative to pasta in the North End. I don't have a car but it was still worth the trip. read more
