One star is much too kind. This was the worst dining experience of my life. It started with drinks after we were sat down. Mai tai, a Chinese restaurant staple, was loaded with chemicals, no juice. When my friend returned the drink and asked for a red wine instead, the waiter returns with white and says that he can't open a bottle of red because it's cold (WTF? Cold red?). Appetizers, gets worse. Vietnamese Veg Fresh rolls -- supposed to be cold-- arrived HOT and stuffed with only rice noodles and with sorry old tiny shards of mint. No vegetables (WTF again). A face cloth would have been more edible. Second app -- calamari -- served undercooked. Entrees: Veggie tempura box was double-fried releasing unpleasant bursts of old frying oil with each bite. The most refreshing item in the bento box was a sorry plop of canned pineapples. The second, expensive salad entree was simply a large bowl of iceberg lettuce with asian dressing. read more

If you ever walk into a restaurant at lunch time and you're the only customers, beware, be very aware. That's what happened to us when we walked into Billy Tse. We were the only patrons. I should have listened to my own advice. My wife and I are pretty good cooks who hardly eat out, so when we do, we'd like to eat a meal that tastes a little better than our own cooking. Well, Billy Tse is not the place. I ordered Basil Chicken, which basically was very chewy pieces of chicken and brown rice smothered in some kind sweet sauce. I say smothered to be kind. It was more like my rice was swimming in a sauce that tasted like disinfectant hoping I'd rescue them. I give them 1 star only because of the young lady who waited on us. Consistently fantastic Chicken & Broccoli. Their Lo Mein dishes are great, and their liquor selection is surprising - in a good way! I had an odd experience at Billy Tse's that I haven't had anywhere else. My girlfriend and I ate there and had a decent meal. The food was alright and the portions larger than expected. We both enjoyed ourselves and the environment. However, there were very few customers in the restaurant. You may ask why this matters or why this is a complaint. You'll see. Upon arriving home with our leftovers, I put them in the fridge for the next day. That next evening I went to heat up my dish. It looked strange and I asked my girlfriend if this was hers. She said no. So I heated it up in the microwave and pulled it out. It looked like pure gelatin with chunks of tofu in it. Disgusting. I ordered a beef and rice noodle dish, not tofu. I promptly called Billy Tse's to notify them that they had given me someone else's. How could they mix that up? It wasn't like the restaurant was packed. The women I spoke to had a hard time understanding me and that my Beef Chow Foon that I wanted to reheat and eat, was in reality a Tofu Soup. She was reluctant to help me out, but I was able to negotiate that they deliver me a new lunch sized portion of Beef Chow Foon for free. The customer service, although it took some nudging, did come through in the end. But getting someone else's food is gross, especially when it is tofu in gelatinous soup. I will eat there again, but I will either make an effort to finish my food there, or just have it delivered. Hopefully that will eliminate any doggy bag issues in the future. read more

I love Billy Tse. I had people over the other night for a friend's birthday and she really wanted Chinese. Plus, we were getting take-out and Chinese is a good way to serve a lot of people. But, I live in the N. End and they were all laughing and saying "I can't believe we came all the way to the North End for Chinese!" Once they started eating they changed their minds quickly. Everyone raved about the food. Billy Tse is really good Chinese. Their sushi is also good. The price is right too. It was only $90 for 9 people to eat and there was a lot leftover. The food is fresh, not too greasy and the service is fast. We were going to get delivery but it would have been an hour wait. Pick up was only 15 minutes but it was only a 5 minute walk so we picked it up ourselves. Dining in is good too. It's clena and birght and in a great location. It's great to have option ins the N. edn besdies Italian, if you live there. I love Italian but sometimes you want variety. read more

Honestly, I didn't like the dish I ordered here. It's my fault, because although they offer both Chinese and Japanese food, I took a chance and ordered a Chinese dish. I just have to face the fact that I don't like Chinese food. However! I did have an overall good experience here, and am looking forward to returning (and trying the sushi or other Japanese dish). Amisdst a sea of Italian restaurantts, you will find the only good Chinese restaurant... (There's another one on the corner of Prince and Hanover, but it's takeout and frankly, gross) They have big portions, and all-around awesome food. Nothing beats sushi AND crab rangoon! When you find a place that has both it's like the Chinese/Japanses god of all things crunchy, salty, and creamy are smiling down on you. Top it off with some sweet plum wine and I could live there. The sushi was top notch and the Chinese food was well-prepared and everything arrived really fast. This place has the best sushi in the Northend, which unfortunately doesn't say much since it's in an Italian neighborhood and basically one of the only good options for Asian food! The sushi is slightly better than Shaw's supermarket and kind of expensive considering it isn't that great. On average the prices are a little high; $5 for edemame, $7.50 for a spicy tuna roll, etc. I have gotten take out before and have had an order messed up, but 90% of the time they get it right. We went in the other night for dinner and the table service was very good. The other food (spicy shrimp, fried rice, etc) is pretty good. Definitely a decent option if you're looking for Asian food in the Northend or Faneul Hall area, but otherwise, check out Chinatown. read more

I work right next to this restaurant but have actually never eaten there before. My co-worker wanted this as his birthday lunch so that's what we did. We basically placed an order for a variety of things & shared it, which worked out well. As a vegetarian I ended getting something special for me to be able to eat just in case. I was surprised at how greasy the spring rolls were, my co-workers & I were not a fan of that. People enjoyed the veg lo mein, beef & broccoli, shrimp fried rice, chicken fingers & these ravioli/wonton type things. I think the ambiance is pretty cool since they have a sushi bar apart from the dining room so it is a decent size place. Just felt like some Chinese "comfort food" tonight so ordered some General Tse's Chicken and Roast Pork Fried Rice which we had delivered. They were both delicious! The fried rice had large chunks of roast pork and the chicken was all tender white meat. Most General 's Chicken is dark meat and usually very dry. Not this one! For dealing with my fiance and I when we are drunk (which seems to be what happens when we go there or before we get there--so please have a mai tai, it will knock your socks off). 2. For making delicious thai noodles, gyu tataki, spicy tuna rolls and crab rangoons (I am a VERY picky crab rangoon fanatic) 3. For serving up chinese/japanese food in the North End! My boyfriend and I decided to try this place last night, as a sort of reprieve from all the Italian food in the North End. The setting is nice, it is busy enough that you don't feel awkward, but not so busy that you have to feel like you are sitting on top of the people next to you. The server was very attentive, and always kept our glasses full. We ordered two sushi rolls to start (boston and spicy tuna), and both were good. We also tried the hot and sour soup, and the Rocket Soup. Both were good, although I would have liked for them to be a little bit spicier. For entrees we got the Kung Pao Shrimp and the Thai Noodles with shrimp. The entrees here are definitely made for sharing. I saw some people complain about the prices, but I thought they were very reasonable for the amount that you get- the dishes are served on a giant plate with a big spoon so you can dish out however much you want. You will definitely have leftovers! Both dishes were very tasty- I would like to go back and try more next time I'm craving something other than pasta and pizza in the north end. read more

I lived in the North End for a few years and visited this place probably as many times. There's absolutely nothing special about it, I don't remember what I got the two times I went and only remember the third time because it was such a negative experience. Don't get me wrong the food is "okay"- it's just I wouldn't go unless I was starving, drunk and passing by on a random night (there are just tooooo many options to choose from in the N End). So this brings me to the service. A bit long, I'm okay with that, but don't bring out an entree that is supposed to be served hot and comes out lukewarm, that's just pure laziness. And literally, every 45 seconds toward the end of our meal, (it was 10:15pm)- they closed at 11pm, a waiter came by and asked if we were finished. I even gave'm a hint ("Thanks man, I'll let you know...") and yet it still persisted. My grandparents live in the North End, and though I visit them frequently due to their proximity to hearty Italian food, every now and then I get tired of pasta and pizza and long for some Billy Tse's. Get the crab rangoon here or live to regret it. It is stuffed with cream cheese, but still maintains that perfect dough to filling ratio that most chinese places lack. The entrees here are delicious as well; my sister and I have gone through a bunch of the chicken dishes (orange chicken being our favorite) to continual success. The duck here is crispy and juicy; the lobster with that brown sauce (lobster sauce?) is amazing. Service is pretty good here too. If you are looking for a nice getaway from standard Italian food, come to Billy Tse's...just remember to stop at the bank before you go here, it's freakin' expensive. read more

Chinese food in the North End should not be good. It doesn't have to be, because that is not what people come to the North End for. When I ordered takeout from China House up the street, it was pretty nasty. So I was very surprised when someone told me Billy Tse's is actually good. I work nearby, and I really only have feedback on lunch specials. Sushi deal is good, and the fish is always fresh. My coworkers and I had 20 minutes to eat lunch before it was back to a meeting, and somehow Billy's was able to feed us all within that timeframe. It was like black magic. I always judge a Chinese place by their wings, and Billy's are good. Not burnt, not tiny, they look and taste like real chicken. Drinks are strong, as well. Prices are a little higher than they would be in another area, but we've seen people like Adam Sandler, several Bruins and local drunks alike enjoy it here, so it's that bad. Definitely don't be like me and think it's going to be bad Chinese food just because of where it is located. A word to the wise, however. The Hot Mustard is the strongest I've ever had. Nuclear even. The salmon is melt in your mouth, buttery goodness and the spicy tuna rolls are still the best I've found in this city. I was incredibly disappointed with the food that I had delivered. I ordered two things of fried rice, one chicken and one beef, the rice was beyond bland and loaded with onions, so be prepared to eat plenty of onions! Also, the man who delivered it reminded me a few times that the total, which was outrageous, didn't include his tip. He also never presented me a receipt so I had to call the restaurant back to get my actual total for each entree, the tax, and then delivery fee. first things first, this is NOT real authentic chinese food - no fish maw soup, preserved egg or garlic pea pods here. that aside, its some seriously good stuff! no matter what you order, I can gaurantee you will not leave this place disappointed. I LOVE a place where I can order general tso's, crab rangoons AND sushi! its a gluttonous indulgence but hey, this is america! and the sushi here is actually very very good. 2. the fried dishes - I have gotten various crispy fried chicken dishes and they are all remarkably light. there is no heavy overwhelming batter or grease. whatever they use to fry their meats is crispy and light as a feather. its almost like tempura, but tastier. I am super picky about meat as well, and I have never had anything that compares in texture and taste to the chicken here - lean, light & crispy! adding to the overall dining experience of Billy Tse's is the clientele - I came for dinner one new years eve. you just cant put a price tag on the entertainment value of heavily accented liquored-up italians loudly discussing... well, just about everything.
