I grew up in Mt. Holly and I have eaten at this establishment many times and they rarely disappoint me! It's a down home, country restaurant with a variety of tasty meals to choose from. The service is timely, the staff is friendly and it is always clean. Visiting my home town of Mt Holly, NC, we tried to coordinate a meal with family but only were able to so for breakfast. We had eaten great seafood & BBQ in the past but I never realized they also had great breakfast also. Six of us, including my 99 year young Aunt, met at 8:00 AM at Billy's. From a broad menu, I chose my regional favorite - livermush. A mix of pork cuts, excluding the prime cuts, ground & simmered with spices and cornmeal. Similar to Scrapple but has a good amount of liver, which makes it healthier than bacon, ham or sausage. But not much availability outside south central NC. Mine with over easy eggs and grits. My wife chose the Western omelette. Two others also choose the same meal as mine. The meat was crispy outside and soft inside, perfect! Some places serve two thinner slices but Billy's has one thicker and larger slice. Eggs were perfect and grits were devine, and a lot of grits, couldn't eat all. My wife also loved the omelette. Coffee was hot and great, refills often. Service was great, even when we stretched our meal to share conversations. Breakfast, BBQ, seafood - they do it all well! read more

I've been looking for a BBQ spot by my work for a little bit now. I will not be back here. The service was really slow. I ordered to-go food, when I showed up I saw my food on the counter. I watched a few servers walk around and look at me without anyone greeting me. After about 8 minutes of standing at the counter one of the servers comes up to the counter and asks if I had a to-go order. I said yes and held out my card, she turned around and walked in the kitchen. I almost walked out when I heard the woman call someone from the back to come greet me. Another woman walks out and asks what I need.... I told her I had placed a to-go order. She looks around and I pointed to the bag on the counter and she looks at it and says "oh, I think this is your food." They weren't rude or anything, just very low functioning. Then I got back to work and opened my food..... Just to be straight forward, this was the soggiest food I have ever eaten, the fries had no salt or seasoning, the barbecue was very bland, and the "Cole slaw" was apple flavored and very watery at the bottom. The bun and fries were soaking wet when I opened the box which I understand happens with to go food but they shouldn't be dripping... Should have looked at the reviews before we ate there! They need a Breakfast cook and a heat lamp! The only thing that was hit on my whole plate was the egg omelette. I got the meat lovers and ALL the meat was barely warm! Had home fries as my side...they also were cold! I can say the pancakes were delicious. My mom brought me here because she has been several times and says its good (she's a tough critic). I had the lasagna which was a nice sized portion and pretty good I must say. It came with a fresh salad and the dressing was homemade, not the watered down stuff. My sister ate the pork chops and said those were good and the fries were crispy and delicious. My mom has tried everything but this time she had a BBQ sandwich and claimed she would order it again. The staff was very friendly and cordial. I hesitated to try Billy's due to the lackluster yelp ratings but finally gave in to my husband's suggestion one day. What a pleasant surprise! Billy's is much more than a BBQ place, with a hand written menu full of specials besides the regular menu. Our waitress recommended a few things on the special menu, such as fried chicken, chicken tips and fried flounder. I ordered the fried flounder with 2 sides, my husband the BBQ plate. My 2 sides were turnip greens and baked sweet potato, and I also found some fries beneath the flounder filets, to my surprise. Even more surprisingly, the turnip greens and fries were both the best I have had for a long time. The fried flounder was also very good. In the end I did not have room for the sweet potato, cornbread and hush puppies ( did I mention they also threw that on my plate?) By the time we finished our lunch, the restaurant was packed with Sunday after church crowd. I guess most people there don't use Yelp! We will definitely return to try more stuff on the menu! read more

Their barbeque was incredibly dry and salty. The sides tastes old and like they had been sitting in oil. I don't think the change their fryer oil often. When I tried to return my order for a refund, which the manager said I could do over the phone, the manager on duty called the cops on me. Horrible customer service. Never again! read more

Food used to be good before the fire and grade was good but the last time we went here the grade was in the 80's which we did not notice untill we went to check out. Several things happened the last time we were here that made us decide to never return. 1st the waitress dropped her pen in the pitcher of tea dug it out then poured it into another tables cups. 2nd the food was not good, Greasy okra, bland chicken, very little chicken in the chicken tips mostly gravy n onions, fries were cold and hard, and the burgers were not cooked well. 3rd the bus boy literally swept the dirt off the floor and dumped it on dishes in the bin. Some people might not see a problem with that but to me that's just gross. If the sanitation grade was higher and the staff cared about a clean restaurant I think it return to the old billys. read more

Ok, I'm not real hard to please but I went for bbq. It wasn't good. The sauces are made in-house but they weren't good either. The vinegar was just that, vinegar with so much pepper in it that it solidifies in the bottom. Fries were good. Baked beans were good but possibly canned. Potato salad should not have carrots in it. I've always gone to Billy's it's one of my favorite BBQ places in mount holly but the last time I went was a quite strange experience. My server was some younger middle age lady.. I believe it was amy... she said she was a couple months new there.. Anyway she was possibly the worst waitress I've ever had anywhere. First off was so slow with my wife and I's food and would completely reeked of alcohol. By the time my drink was empty i was looking for her for about 15 minutes or so and she came back so red and I could recall seeing a sort of powder in her nose also. I don't know if you guys do drug tests there or not but I would recommend before the wrong person sees that lady and ruins your business. read more

We went to Billy's after they re-opened last week. Service was horrible. It took almost an hour to get our food and we didn't get refills regularly and had asked to get a different drink for my 2 year old and never received it. Staff appeared clueless. Went back a few days later, and no one was there to seat you. My dad asked a waitress if it was ok to go ahead and sit down and she said yes. We sat down and a waitress said she would be right with us and she needed to wipe the table. Someone else brought us menus. Well, no one else came by to get drinks or food orders. The waitress that said she would wipe the table, ignored us sitting there. She had someone else come in and sat down talking to the lady until her husband came in. Another waitress noticed we had been there a while and asked another waitress if it was her table. She said no. The waitress went to the one that had ignored us and asked if it was her section and she said it was but she thought someone else was going to help.
