I miss when businesses actually took pride in their business. When restaurants actually sold quality, edible food . $25 plate (fish and chips ) . I slid my fork in the fish and it fell a part so fast , the batter didn't uphold well , the inside of the fish didn't look good . The scallop , I spit it out because I couldn't even chew it . The fries were cold even though I literally ordered, waited and attempted to eat at the location so everything should have been fresh and hot . The food was cooked in old grease and the food smelled of old grease (just look at the shrimp) . I literally attempted to take two bites of this food and trashed it . Billy knew better than to serve this but he did anyways so there was no need to even talk about the issue or a refund , I simply took a Lost. I just honestly could not eat it and he honestly shouldn't be selling trash food like this especially when people used their hard earn money to patronize his business...I don't care what they specialize in , if you have it on the menu and can't make it don't put it on the menu. I also don't care who loves this restaurant , it is and will always be a "no " for me and I definitely wouldn't let my loved ones eat from here . the picture really just speaks for itself. read more

Used to come here weekly, over a decade ago because it was so good and they were friendly. Not sure what happened but the only thing that's the same about this restaurant, is the look inside. I ordered cheese fries as always do & they were soggy and the cheese wasn't melted. Ordered two slices of pepperoni pizza and it's like they didn't finish cooking the pizza either. Chicken cutlet sub was okay, but most of the chicken pieces were too hard to bite with sub. Woman who answered phone didn't seem interested in taking orders. Don't think I'll be back. read more

Amazing food got the bbq combo of two steak tips and chicken with potato salad and collard greens everything was to die for tips were cooked perfectly medium rare and the chicken was so easy to cut with a plastic knife and fork the owner Billy such a fine gentleman asked me where I was from how I heard about him took the time out to chat if I could give more than a 5 star rating and review I would I'm definitely going back soon to try more of the menu. First of all, simply disregard all the one star ratings. I live a walk away, and kinda sorta know the neighborhood. The poor ratings are generally from non-yelpers, tourists looking for BBQ, or someone who had a beef with the service. pssst: Or a competitor. This establishment is owned and operated by a Greek couple who has been doing this for 30+ years. At one point, apparently during a 1990 TX BBQ fad, the wife sent the husband down to TX for 30 days to learn TX BBQ. They rebranded their sandwich/pizza shop. To my New England palate, the BBQ is okay, but not sensational. That is the downside: "Okay" BBQ. The upside is that this is a couple who has been operating this for 30+ years. It is the "go to" joint for all the employees, lawyers, and judges next door at Dorchester District Court. I'm going with their judgment rather than the fly-by review Yelpers. The sandwiches are good, the pizza (depending upon your sensitivity) is fine, and the value sensational. It is a Dorchester sandwich/pizza joint, don't get me wrong. The couple behind the counter are friendly and personable whether I call them on the phone or pop by for a pickup. The onion rings are a must. They are the best I have ever tasted with just ketchup. The beef was hard. The bbq sauce was raw. I was so disappointed that I didn't even want my money back. Everything was disgusting. The chicken was not cooked and was burned. "Billy's Texas BBQ" does not serve BBQ, is not run by a guy named Billy and has Zero to do with Texas. In fact, if a Texan walked in he wouldn't recognize the food here as 'BBQ' anymore than a person from China would recognize Crab Rangoon or a Frenchman with whatever Panera calls a 'Soufflee'. (Not that these are bad foods. I love them.) This take out place is run by a Greek (maybe Lebanese) couple who serve up typical Greek style pizza (that is, greasy pan pizza that most folks in MA and NH recognize as standard pizza fare). They also, like most pizza joints of its ilk, serve up subs, fried finger foods, salads and more. I came looking for BBQ. I did not find it. What Billy's offers under their BBQ menu is parboiled ribs and chicken (wings and breasts) that are finished on their grill to warm it through and give it charred markings. They then serve it submerged in tangy BBQ sauce that is more like the kind of sauce served on Roast Beef than at smokehouses know for real BBQ. When I say "Submerged" I mean it. If my container were tilted only slightly the sauce would pour off the side. Now, for what it was I'd say it wasn't awful. The amount of food for the money was pretty decent and I can understand the use of so much sauce - the meat isn't seasoned at all before hand so the only flavor you get is there. I didn't like the flavor much and I was hoping for, at the very least, something slow cooked even if it weren't smoked. So, if you are local to the neighborhood and looking for pizza and subs I bet you could do worse. Keep looking for BBQ though. read more

Really fantastic saucy bbq. Tons of delishious bbq sauce - so you were forewarned if you like dry rub bbq. Amount of food for the price is fantastic - ribs are hug, bbq chicken is tender. The sweet potatoes and collards are great sides. Not the greatest place to eat in, atmosphere is pretty bleak and great food takes time. But for pick up and delivery, you can't beat it. Lived around the corner for a good year until I actually tried this place. Staff is friendly for sure, especially the older/middle aged lady who answers the phone and works the counter. Their pizza is good, that's been my go to place. I don't care for pizza but my hubby and kids love their pizza. Subs and salads are good too. The only thing that turned me off this place is the last 2 times I ordered I had a serious issue with the chicken. The first time I ordered buffalo wings, and they were practically raw inside. I mean bloody. I called and complained and was told to come back over, they made me a new order. Of course I was annoyed at having to walk back while the rest of my family was eating their pizza. But not the end of the world, the 2nd order was ok. The last time I ordered, I ordered fried wings (no sauce). When I tell you this chicken was NOT cleaned, UGH! A few weeks ago there was a detour in my neighborhood which brought me to Washington street. As I was looking around at the shops I saw a sign for this place and saw they delivered (I am always looking for new delivery options) One Friday night I decided to call this place. Luckily they delivered to my neighborhood and they have fall off the bone ribs with an amazing sauce. Small complaint but no big deal, I wish they had corn bread because it would have complimented the ribs well. I did like the sweet potatoes - with brown sugar of course. I called back and they said they'd send the sides.. 40min later. No sides. The food is good but the customer service is horrible!!!! I ordered shrimp broccoli ziti and they sent me chicken broccoli instead. I called back and explained that I do not eat chicken and asked them to send me the shrimp pasta I ordered. They put me on hold so I called back a few times with the same result -- being put on hold. 4 hours later at 11pm they called me back. Why would I want my food at that time? Another time I ordered a steak tip salad and It came with only 6 tiny pieces of steak on it. Ridiculous. When I called to speak to the manager (after being put on hold various times) he started going off about being super busy. He should be grateful his business is busy.
