I am giving Bing two stars because the ladies who work here are really nice and give you change when you need it. That extra star is for them. This place is not closed but it should be or someone who cares should take it over. I came back here after some years today because I was curious to see if things had improved. Well, if anything, they are worse. More broken machines - hardly any machines work here and the place is incredibly dirty. I used an ancient Speed Queen that churned and chugged and actually got my clothes clean but it was leaking some. This place is sad and has deteriorated a lot in the years since I have been here. It s dirtier and more full of junk. It is evident that the owner does not care about it. He really does not. Hardly anyone in there and I am sure a well maintained laundry place could make some money. Sad. Go to Elmwood Laundry on College - it is more expensive but it is clean and better maintained. read more

$2.25 for a load in the wash, and $0.25 per 7 minutes in the dryer if I remember correctly. My bf and I easily found three washing machines next to each other for us to run all of our laundry at once. We weren't sure if we had enough quarters on hand, but they had an easy to use machine with clear labels telling us how to use it that converted a $20 bill into change for us. The place was pretty empty when we went in the afternoon mid-week. The atmosphere is quite calm, it's easy to just go through the motions of completing the laundry, and we didn't have to interact with any staff which was nice because we were both rather tired. Something to note that my bf and I missed originally is that the machines recommend putting your detergent in first so it's at the bottom of the machine before adding your dirty clothes. We easily shifted out clothes over by hand and poured in the soap, but you can avoid the hassle by following the directions. The hours and location are particularly nice as well. It is open for much of the day and into the night, and is across the street from a 7-Eleven. I believe Kuboba is nearby as well and they have good drinks and food if anyone is interested. There are these slanted benches along the sides of the wall that you can sit at. They're a strange angle, you wouldn't be able to rest something like a book on them without the book falling through the back of the bench. However, they were comfortable enough. I charged my laptop and phone before we came over and worked on some writing using a hotspot on my phone while the laundry ran. My bf comfortably crocheted beside me. Once the laundry finished washing, there were these clean, easy to use baskets with wheels that you could use to transport your laundry. We again found some dryers conveniently in a row and used those. Then, we went back to our respective tasks. I took a brief break to cross the street to the 7-Eleven. Aside from the many machines available, there are relatively large counter spaces at a good height for folding laundry. My boyfriend and I folded and packed up our laundry into suitcases before heading out. We left with a hefty bag of quarters and three loads worth of clean laundry. read more

I've been here a couple of times for laundry, it's $2.25 for one run of the washing machine but they're cash only so be sure to bring quarters. It was fine, took just 30 minutes to run one load of laundry, although my socks didn't seem to end up clean, and I'm not totally sure if that's because the machines themselves are old or just not top notch quality, or because of me putting too full a load and not using a strong enough detergent. But there's plenty of machines and it's convenient since they're currently open 8am-8:30pm everyday except Thursdays. read more

Had a bunch of really dirty clothes and stuff from yard work and didn't want to wash them at home. I stopped off at this wash house, because I thought I'd grab some lunch. On my way over the find something to eat, I was stopped in the parking lot by a guy, I guess he was the owner, and was told I could not park there. I explained it was my intent to grab some food and wash some stuff. "Why don't you start your laundry and then go get something?" I was asked. Oh, now is dawns on me that he is thinking I'm just parking there! It's Sunday and there are plenty of places to park on the street and without having to pay the meter. The store is so ghetto and dirty. There's just stacks of junk around the place and several neighborhood street residents hanging around. You know the kind, they want to talk to you ("Excuse me sir...") and then panhandle you for money. I can handle them, but I'm concerned someone is going to take my laundry. Not kidding! Fine. I walk back, get my laundry, and to start my load. It's $2.25 and all I have are four quarters and a $20 bill. I see the owner and tell him I need change. Kindly he goes upstairs and returns with $1 in quarters and change. Oh, and he hands me my money and it's a dollar short. Duh, I can count. Gimme my money! Now if he owns or manages this place, you'd think he'd know that the $2 I have now in quarters will not get a load done, let alone dry them. I go back to my car and find enough money to do the wash. The place on Telegraph is a real dump, dirty and with most of the machines not working. The attendant, a middle-aged Chinese lady, was rude and surly, just because I asked what the WiFi pass word was. There was some weird goop on my clothes after I took them out of the dryer, necessitating a rewash somewhere else. I'm never going to any of these cheaply run Bing Wong laundromats again. read more

I COULD imagine a worse laundromat, but I can't give 2 stars. This place feels seedy, even for a laundromat. One surprising thing is that the other Bing Wong north of campus has worse Yelp reviews, but is much better. Maybe it's because this place is open later? I was there around 7. A MAJORITY of the machines are out of order. This means that you have to spread your loads all around the in different areas, which beyond being inefficient, is terrible because you end up forgetting exactly which one has your clothes. Then, the smelly, seedy patrons go to open machines that you think might be yours... I can't stress enough how uncomfortable it is to be in there. The night I was there, we had a woman that fast-walked around the place, laughing maniacally for the entire 90 minutes I was around. Also, it's really dirty. This laundromat has more character and style than any laundromat I've been to. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of broken, out of order machines and corners stuffed nearly to the ceiling with old junk and dirty ceiling lights that look like they haven't been cleaned in years but it is still one of the coolest, neatest and cleanest laundromats you'll find. They have lots of beautiful plants that are well taken care of, interesting little knickknacks all over the place, lots of magazines to read - they even have a free book station! What laundromat has a free book station? The staff are very friendly in spite of not speaking English well and they are always very helpful. It's spacious with a decent amount of parking and they've got good hours. Definitely worth checking out. read more

Great place. You have a choice of $2 or $1.75 washers (size) and 8 minute or 12 minute per $0.25 drying. Go with the former on both and you will have much less hassle, much fewer machines to sentinel. Tons of machines and areas to fold, and a private parking lot to boot (which makes exploring Telegraph while your clothes ablute possible). I was pleased to see that the place mostly had legit people who just needed to clean the 2 shirts they own, which is awesome. The parking, potency of the drier and general safeness makes this a highly recommended place to satisfy your need for entertainment and doing laundry; to kill two birds with one stone. read more

Ms. Wong is my homie. Not really, but I'd like to think so since she gives me the half smile when I greet her. This is a solid laundrymat. There is always someone there thats watching over the place just in case something breaks, or things go wrong. They've put in a number of new machines, including larger industrial driers and washers, and vending machines with yummies! The prices are decent too. I'd say, for a two week load, which is roughly two washes worth, I spend $1.75 each wash and about $1.25-$1.50 in the big industrial dryer, totaling to $4.50-$5.00 for two loads worth in about 1.25 hours. I usually wash the two loads at once in adjacent washers, and combine both loads into the dryer for about 40 minutes and it drys completely usually. My clothes are probably double the size of a small petite asian girl, so if thats you, cut that cost in half!..well not really but you get the idea. It's clean, with plenty of parking, and it's not too shady of a place. No wireless internet of course, but they're are plenty of random magazines to pass the time. Four stars just for the fact that I never had a boring wash at Bing Wong's. Between the occasionally irate homeless folks, the sorority girls speaking loudly into their cell phones, large families with screaming children, and the incredibly kind owners, Bing Wong's was always an experience and I grew to love it. Really. If you want to avoid too much commotion, the best time to go is before noon Monday through Friday. If your feeling a little daring and want to observe some really unique Telegraph flare, do a load of laundry in the middle of the afternoon on a Saturday or Sunday. The place is sure to deliver. If you happen to go and it is a fluke afternoon where it's slow, don't worry - just read the local postings. I once read a young woman's two page, hand-written, photo-copied rant about necrophilia and how it was becoming more prevalent in the Bay Area and how you can spot a necrophiliac. Wow. Oh, and remember to smile at the owners and thank them when you leave. They are incredibly kind and work very hard to make it a safe place to do your laundry, while at the same time being open to the variety of folks who frequent their establishment. read more

It's been a while since I've done laundry. Having just moved from an apartment that had laundry machines downstairs, I was new to this whole concept of going to a laundromat. Eventually, I went through what every guy goes through once in a while: I ran out of clean underwear. Bing Wong to the rescue! I finally found the time to drag all my clothes a block over to Bing Wong and give it a try. The machines are all fairly cheaper than at my old apartment. Most of them are very clean and in working order. A lot of the dryers are out of order, which is kind of suspicious, but I managed to find one that works well. Tip: I put most of my clothes into the dryers that run for $0.25/8 minutes, and a dollar dried everything very well. I had A LOT of stuff, but 32 minutes was enough to dry it all perfectly. I just wish they had free wifi or at least some power plugs, but since I live less than a block away, it wasn't too much of an inconvenience. A homeless guy might occasionally come in, or the "Fuckathon" guy might appear out of nowhere. But hey, isn't that what makes Berkeley such an awesome place? read more

The Bing Wong Wash Center was probably here before the advent of the Gourmet Ghetto and is a decent place to do laundry and get change for things like parking meters and street people donations. I have my own washer and dryer at home, but when a machine breaks down or I have a heavy load, I come here. It seems safe, is well lit, offers good people watching, and provides nice seating for consuming the gourmet takeout of your choice. read more

This place is in the parking lot of the auto repair shop on the corner. There's a confusing array of washers here, with multiple different prices. Medium front-load washers were $2, large were $2.75, top-load were $1.75 depending on what machines you use. Lots of large dryers, and you get approx 8 minutes per $0.25, so for $1.25 you can dry probably 2 washers worth of clothes for 40 minutes, which is usually enough to finish. There's definitely a sketchy element running around this place -- lots of homeless folks wandering in and around. I didn't feel unsafe, but I wouldn't leave my stuff there unattended. I was there on a Saturday morning starting at 10:45 and there were probably 6 other people doing laundry. The place is definitely run-down, but all the machines I used worked perfectly. About 1/3 of the machines in the place were marked as broken. This is bad because it lowers the amount of machines you can get in a row, but it's good because you know that they're diligent enough to mark the machines, so you'll probably not waste your money on a non-working machine. I don't drive, but there appeared to be very limited parking in the lot, although I'm sure you can find street parking nearby. read more

It's there and I don't know what I would do without it since my apartment building doesn't have a laundry room, but still this place could be so much better. Something that bothers me is that so many of their machines are not working on any given day, especially the dryers. The dryers, even when they are working, don't dry that well. I know this because I usually divide up my clothes into two dryers and one always works well and the other one is still wet. Additionally, the washing machines are pretty old, most of the time they do their jobs but it would be nice for them to do some upgrades on them. I have never had any problems with losing clothes here or anything at all even though there are always sketchy people walking in and out. They usually keep to themselves, just make sure you don't leave your belongings alone for too long. As a college student, I have a lot of time between classes so I've learned to do my laundry when most people are not doing their laundry. It works out because I can seriously cut down my laundry time by half and hour to an hour per week when I do my laundry during weekdays. Also, who wants to spend their weekend doing laundry? Laundry comes out to about $5-$6 here, I do miss free laundry a lot but what can you do? I saw that someone said dryers are $.25 per 12 minutes, I think its 8 minutes actually. read more

The asian lady that seems to run the place is ridiculously sweet and scoop-her-up-and-want-to-take-her-home cute. Wong Bing is recommended by 3 out of 4 doctors as healthier entertainment than TV. Ever play the improv acting game "Park Bench"? (sometimes also called Bus Stop) Try "Laundromat". Here, it's live, and real, and these people are crazy! Try going in there and pretending to be someone else. See what you let yourself get away with when you think you're not you! There's a variety of machines and they're all old. Some of them are perpetually out of order. They have huge ones and small ones. The dryers are 60s green and work remarkably quickly for their age. And they're lettered, not numbered, which I never knew I would like until I saw them. Wing Bong also has lots of plants. I think it should be required by Laundromat Law that they all have plants. And Buffalo Exchange is across the street! Go get more clothes to wash! read more

Doing laundry isn't my favorite thing to do in the world. In fact, I put it off for as long as I can and end up with months of laundry to wash and dry. Bing Wong's is great because they have quadruple and quintuple load washers which can handle my massive amounts of laundry. I normally use about five of their large load washers and split those large loads in half and use about 10 dryers to finish a days worth of laundry in a couple hours! Quickie info: -Quadruple Washers are $4 normal, $4.50 heavy soil -Quintuple Washer $5 -Dryers $0.25/8 minutes, they've recently put in brand new fancy dryers that don't burn your clothes. I suggest using those. Trust me, you'll be able to tell which dryer units I'm talking about. -Change machines take $1,$5,$10 and $20 -If you need quick cash, there's a 7-11 across the street that lets you have a max of $10 cashback Downside to here: it's not the cleanest establishment around. Whenever an article of clothing that I've taken out of the washer or dryer falls on the ground, I feel like it's unclean and want to put it back into the wash. Minus one star. The worst part about doing so much laundry? Having to fold it all and put it back in the closet. read more

This place loses a star for lots of broken machines, BUT there is ALWAYS an attendant ready to refund/make change and keep things tidy, and to a person they are friendly and helpful. I've seen people leave laundry in machines and it's moved but never tossed or stolen. As for homeless customers I've had one of them keep someone from looting my car when the windows were open one hot afternoon. DO NOT GO HERE My laundry was stolen when I left it for only 30 min after the dry cycle had ended. My brother was visiting and his clothing was stolen as well. They did not even offer to refund us for our wash/dry cycle. We kept going there in spite of the theft just out of convenience. The last straw was when we washed and dried several loads only to discover the dryers are dirty and our clothing/linens ended up covered in lint. I used to live a block away and Bing Wong was a great place to do laundry. The lady operating the business was always friendly and more than accommodating if I was ever pressed for time before closing or needed to get a quarter out of a jammed washer. Recently I've been driving to the laundromat since I moved, but every time I park some guy immediately runs out waiting to see if Im going inside or not. He won't even let me grab a cup of coffee from 7-eleven. If parking was really scarce (it never is) I would even understand towing my car, but don't be a d**k about it. I LOATHE Bing Wong wash center. I am pretty sure that one of their machines harbors the gateway to hell. Their change machines are usually broken or malfunctioning. Bing Wong's, being on Telegraph, has one of the highest crazy per capita of any commercial establishment in Berkeley. Cafe Mediterraneum and the Berkeley Public Library are the only places you can go with less sanity, I think. There is always something a little questionable going on there. Once I came and some guy was taking his 12 or 15 wet newspapers out of the washing machine. It took him about 2 hours. That said, it's still convenient, and the people that run the place are really nice and non-judgemental about all the craziness. Which is sweet. Solid laundromat with a lot of washers and dryers. We started going to Bing Wong after we learned that it is a tad bit cheaper than Central Launderette, and parking is never an issue at Bing Wong. We've never had to wait for empty machines. All the machines seem to be functioning properly. I highly recommend emptying the lint trays of the dryers before using them - most people seem to forgot to check. It's very helpful that someone is always available if there are any problems. The interior of Bing Wong is a little dirty, and there is some junk piled up in the back. Occasionally, there are some interesting characters who wander in here to ask for spare change. Not a big deal, but keep an eye out. read more

This operation has places located around Berkeley. The one located on Shattuck avenue near Rose avenue is probably the most unfriendly and on neighborly business in the area. Here it is the code of 19 virus time and they've changed their hours which is fine. the downside they don't post it on the door you're just supposed to somehow guess and know what days of the week they're open or ask the neighbors because maybe they know. I'm surprised that they would be so dismissive and haughty. But then again they're the only laundromat in the area so they get away with whatever the hell they want to get away with and you can just suck it up read more

My loyalty to Bing Wong laundromat can be likened to that of Bilbo for Frodo. I used to live close to this laundromat and went every other week . Now I live pretty far away but still keep going back. The prices are great and its mostly clean. The owners are also very nice. My only gripe with this place is the number of bums that frequent it. Every time I tried to wash my laundry, my laundry is never fully clean. I would wash it twice, and it's a waste of money. The dryers sometimes doesn't work and it would take my money (the washer too) and when I tried to talk to the owner, she literally ignores me even though I'm clearly there. Just bad service! The laundry mat Bing Wong is wonderful I think its a true Berkeley experience and a marvel of telegraph. There is a cute zen garden outside of it. They have all kinds of machines in all sizes. Everyone is nice there. Its a well kept laundry mat and a well run business. The family that owns it really cares about their laundry. They also have xfinity wifi so you can check bspace or do whatever you need. There is a lot of large tables to fold laundry. They also have change machines to get quarters that's a really big plus for me. Eliza is one of the people that take care of the laundry mat she is a quite amazing old woman that always smiles when you walk in and says hello. Despite being smack dab in the middle of crazy central, there is something infinitely comforting about Bing Wong. Despite a few resident homeless people and the always varied array of Berkeley folks, I always feel safe doing my laundry here, even after dark. At least one of the owners is always there, tidying up, ready with change, or even a friendly chat. They even recognize the regulars. Yes, it's a bit dingy, with the ceiling tiles so rotted they look like they could fall on your head, but the washers and dryers are always clean and the owners very helpful. Plus, it's one of the best people watching venues you'll ever find- a huge plus when you're doing something as mundane as the weekly wash. read more
