Oh man, I really wanted to like this spot. The surrounding neighborhood is amazing and the laundry even has a little parking lot which is nice. However, the old machines are just giving out and although the attendant is present and attentive to customers, the actual lack of working laundry equipment is the reason this place only gets 2 stars. Place is spacious and there are a lot of washers and dryers though a lot of out of service. Locally owned and owner is almost always available or nearby. WiFi is available for customers and I like doing homework while I wait. Beware that they strictly close at 10pm and owner will kick you out even if machines are still in session but I still prefer over cal suds. read more

I don't usually write reviews, but my roommate and I were incredibly irked at what happened. We go here weekly since it's the closest laundromat to us and it uses an app/card. We go later in the day and leave around 9:45 pm - 10:30 pm; the dryers take multiple cycles to actually dry our laundry completely. Except tonight because we were hurried out at almost exactly 10:00pm, having to leave nearly 10 minutes lefts on a drying cycle while leaving with our clothes still damp... it's already frustrating when half of the dryers out of order, take forever to dry, and leaving with clothes still wet; but it's even worse when we don't even get to use all the time we paid for. Also, they need to change the "last wash" sign on the window since it says 10 pm, as we were told it's actually officially 9:00pm. read more

Came back to try after I heard new management took over. The previous owner was never present and tbh mean, and after two years of realizing this place was the reason my clothes never smelt clean (I was a student at the time) I had enough. Pressed for time, I had to do an emergency load and didn't want to drive 17 mins away to my new usual spot. I saw that new management was present the whole time and was super sweet. I could see him helping people and cleaning throughout my stay. Despite this nice change I was disappointed to see that most of the dryers were either broken/out of service. Just as others mention it takes twice as long to dry your clothes in these old dryers. It was the same when I use to come previously (I used to think that was normal). So due to half the dryers being out of service there was a point where multiple people were waiting for the dryers. Again, it takes twice as long for your clothes to dry and you have to do it in small batches if you want it to dry on time. The new owner should really work on updating all the dryers. I will be sticking to my new laundry place in San Pablo, which sucks because this is only down the street from my place... Thankfully, I just got home and my clothes smell clean and not like wet dog. oh well, I gave it a shot. If I hear they replace all the dryers I might give it another shot in the future read more

The owners of this laundromat are what gives it a five star rating. One time I couldn't get my quarters out of the dryer machine and he came and helped me get the minutes I paid for! Another time, a stranger kept coming close to me and the owner came and yelled at him to leave. Today, a man came inside the laundromat while I was alone and harassed me for money. Because I was scared and alone, I gave him some cash. The owner by coincidence came in around 5 minutes after and I told him the story. He said he will review footage, looked around for him, and gave me the same amount of money I gave to the harasser. It can be unsafe around Berkeley area but I know that these owners have genuine hearts and will protect their patrons and business. I gave this place a few tries after I was told it was under new management. They have new washers that can be paid for with an app which is super convenient. However, 6 months later they still have the same lousy dryers. It takes me twice as long to dry my wash than it does in other laundromats nearby. I really wanted to be able to make this place my regular laundromat but I can't when I can save time and money elsewhere. If they ever get new dryers I'll give it another shot but until then unfortunately I'll go elsewhere. read more

I visit the Bay Area frequently and always come here to do my laundry. The place is clean, with good machines and it's reasonably priced. I'm always able to park in their lot and it's nice to stroll the neighborhood while the clothes are washing. I spoke with the owner, and she and her husband are committed to providing great service. I like this laundry and come here regularly despite it being a bit far from my place. They have plenty of washers and dryers and the place is clean and well equipped. There are coin exchangers that accept up to $10 bills. Most of the laundry machines are top load except a few heavy duty ones which are front load. The only complain I have against this place is the top load washers can be a bit harsh on your clothes. Theres a small parking lot next to it which usually has parking on weekday-nights. Weekend nights, the parking lot is always full but there is another parking lot on the other side of college street where you can get lucky. Theres free wifi and speed is pretty decent. ICI ice cream is a two minute walk away so you can always kill your time by indulging in amazing ice cream. Besides college has lots of other stores so walking around is also fun. Washers are $2.00 per load and drying is 6 minutes per quarter. 30 minutes is usually enough for drying a load so thats about $1.50 drying per load. read more

Their machine timers are messed up. I washed my 5 loads of laundry from right to left. I filled them all up, once that was done I paid from left to right. Start order: 5 4 3 2 1 At first, my machines were all a minute apart. At the end, this is the order they finished End order: 5 2 4 1 3 Seriously! Anyway, it was an average wash. $2.25/load. This laundromat's lack of a worker on standby continues to be a huge issue. While doing laundry today 4 people were also doing theirs without a mask on. No employee nearby to enforce mask policy. No sign on the door stating you must be masked to enter. This place is not a safe place to do laundry during the pandemic so please steer clear if it's an option. read more

Feels odd reviewing a laundromat, maybe I'll review the local post office next. One of the nicest and cleanest facilities I have ever used. There is an abundance of washers and dryers and they even have large capacity machines that wash your comforters and blankets. You will also find plenty of large and clean folding tables. The change machines are always full and functioning, small samples of laundry detergent is available for purchase, but you are probably better off going next door to the 7-11 and buying a larger container. What I really appreciate is the clean sink with fully stocked soap so you can wash your hands. The price for a wash is reasonable, $2.00 for cold and warm, or $2.25 for hot cycle. Three change machines, small quarter-fed soap machines. A few tables and benches. Nice big laundry folding table. It was quiet in the building despite being pretty busy with people doing their laundry. Felt very comfortable leaving my stuff in the washers and dryer to walk around the small businesses on College Ave, but if you want to sit inside there is free wifi. I've got two dryers running in Elmwood Laundry right now; this is my third visit, and I'm adopting this place as my laundry spot. I live about a mile away in Berkeley, but my apartment building's small laundry room has become woefully unreliable due to a protracted construction project (machines eating quarters, dusty environment, etc). I found Elmwood Laundry on Yelp and tried it for the first time last month. The machines run smoothly, there are numerous carts, sufficient tables for folding, and tables with benches (for writing reviews on Yelp hahaha). There are also little things, like napkin dispensers, a sink, and yes, working wifi. Parking can be difficult in front of the laundromat, but I haven't had trouble finding a spot on Stuart St nearby. The location is also a plus for being in Elmwood--I like to walk over a block to Timeless Coffee and grab a cookie or donut. To me, the smoothly running larger machines are definitely worth the additional 50 cents or so compared to my building's laundry facilities. read more

Don't pay attention to people pissing and moaning about not finding parking. If they can't get their asses out of bed to get there early, it's entirely their fault. It opens at 6AM every day. Unless you are a farmer who works 7 days a week, you can get there in the morning before work and find a spot. I don't care how damned awesome your sex life is, if you can't roll out of bed to get to the laundromat, that's your life choice, not a reflection on how good the laundromat is. You actually *really* need to do the sheets and have brunch anyway, so get out of bed, take your sweetie and your sheets to the laundromat and cross the street for a romantic brunch. On a week end or day off, get there before shops open up, because you know entitled [insert age demographic of your choice] assholes park wherever they please and wander off to shop because they are the center of Mommy's universe. Shops open up at 10, 10:30 and 11, generally. They may open later on Sunday. I arrived at 9:50AM on Black Friday. There were two spaces and the handicapped space available, out of oh 6 to 8 spots total. Don't pay attention to people pissing and moaning about seating. There's plenty of seating. See my note above about getting there early. Bonus is that the morning sun is very nice in the seating area. Oh yeah, anticipating your other excuse... I'm not a morning person, either and I had a bonus Thanksgiving hangover, too. The floor is clean. This is important. I was at a place in Alameda where the floor is so insanely dirty that, when the corner of my duvet touched the floor, it came up black like I'd dropped it in a tar pit. Not so here. The change machine takes bills in 1, 5 and 10. It does not look like they take 20s. (That's why I got there at 9:50, instead of my desired 9:30 - I had to hit my bank on the other side of town for a couple of rolls of quarters.) The WiFi was working when I was there. I noticed that I could get a signal from Nabolom across the street, too. Bring your handy device of choice. Now, here are some laundromat tips. Back in my apartment days, I could get out in 1 hour. First, start however many toploaders you need and leave the lids up. While they are filling, sort and fling your laundry into the various machines. By the time you are done sorting and tossing the detergent in, the barrels will be full and ready to spin. Slam the lids down. Congratulations, you've saved 10 minutes. Once those are all done, spread out your wet stuff into dryers, but not full dryers. Leave them partially empty, like 2/3s empty. This isn't a waste of energy, because you don't need to run them as long as you would if you stuffed them to the gills. I used to fill 6 washers and 12 dryers in my apartment days. Now I am a homeowner with my own washer and dryer. My advice to people planning to be homeowners is simply this. Do NOT buy a down comforter or duvet. Having someone else wash this costs more than the price of the comforter and having a comforter is the ONLY reason I need a laundromat. Once my duvet craps out, I'm replacing it with two blankets that I can stuff in my home washer. read more

Passive aggressive attendant who refused to wear a mask (!), taunting me and refusing to let me dry my clothes after the washer I had put them in didn't work the first time. (Funny, he was totally nice to a man who had left his wash in a washer until the end. Misogyny, anyone?) Many of the machines are broken, and this one broke after I started it and he refused to accommodate me. He also pulled out a huge filthy lint trap and made the dirt fly around my other wet clothes before I could get them in the dryer while I was putting coins in for the rewash. He didn't clean any other lint traps. He kept threatening to kick me out at 10:00, even though the last washer (re-wash) wasn't going to be done until 10:05. He taunted me at the end by telling me that he had a video of our whole interaction. I was certainly angry, and I won't apologize for that. It was an appropriate response to his harassment. I wish he would use the video as a training tool. I'll never go back there again. read more

For a college student, the washer prices seemed a bit pricey, but I forgot about the awesome industrial dryers that are uber cheap. I am notorious for not doing my laundry until I have no underwear, so I needed to do 6 loads of laundry, ( don't worry, it wasn't just clothes, towels and bedding too) so I took advantage of the high capacity washers, since they give you more bang for the buck. A plus for me is the free parking (hard to in Elmwood area) and free WiFi. The downfall was that I needed to potty and really had no place to go! Haha. It's close to campus, clean, and un-shady (didn't have to worry about people stealing my clothes). If I still had my car, I would so go here again. read more

I'm sitting at Elmwood Laundry right now - using the free wireless so I figure I should write a review. Firstly, the place is immaculate. Well, someone left muffin crumbs on a table in the front, but otherwise, I can't find a flaw. I came in to use the high capacity washers and was thrilled to see they had plenty for me to choose from - 6 commercial grade washers ($3.25/load), 2 high capacity ($4.75/load) and 2 "mega loads" ($6.50/load). So I was thinking the dryers would suck and I'd be here all day waiting for this heavy bedspread and blankets to dry, but 36 minutes into each dryer and they are about ready to go. Actually gotta run now. Dryers are done - and I'm outta here. read more

Aggressive staff - do NOT recommend! Not COVID compliant. I felt extremely uncomfortable and unsafe due to staff behavior. The staff member approached me closely with no mask, accused me of taking quarters without doing laundry, which I calmly explained was not the case at all. He followed me out to my car as I was getting my laundry to bring in and began yelling that I was taking quarters. I felt so unsafe that I knew I needed to leave.
