This place was really good. I order #56 with a pork chop instead of grilled pork and it was soooo yummy! I got a Thai tea that was super sweet and delicious. My fiancee had to add more tea because hers was too sweet. She got a beef stew pho which reminded me of birria. It was delicious. My aunt got #1 and my uncle got a grilled pork and shrimp rice bowl. It was delicious. There was only a few parking spots in front of the restaurant. It is right next to the chase and apparently, you can't park there. The service was good and the guy was nice. It is a nice family-friendly restaurant with booster seats and high chairs. The bathroom was clean and well-stocked. The iced coffee was slightly too sweet. In a prior delivery - I got the spring rolls and the bun bo hue. Both were pretty good - hit the craving spot but nothing super stand out. Next thing, he was Nocking on my window, then I rolled down my window, for him to reach inside my car and snapped the order from me and took it back inside. I had to re enter and tell him that was hella disrespectful. He called me a thief, basically. I had to show him for the third time that was me. No wonder this place has 3.6 starts. We have not had the opportunity to visit Anh Dao in many years it used to be one of our favorite Pho places. Today We had the Seafood combo Pho and the Vermicelli combo. The seafood Pho broth was not as flavorful as it could have been. Perhaps a bit more fish sauce which wasn't on the table to add. Decent amount of shrimp and seafood. The combo vermicelli was good. I ordered a pho chay large with veggie broth for takeout, which was pretty reasonably priced, and was ready for pick up on time. They have the vegetables and tofu, noodles, and broth separately packaged so that you can put it together when you're ready and to avoid it getting soggy. Ask for hot oil with your food. I ordered fresh spring rolls, which was fresh and the sauce was the one that made it amazing. At the other places, I usually get a pretty bland/ mediocre peanut sauce. Or their rice paper will be a little tough and/or there will be toouch veggies or noodle. Pho Dac Biet - flavorful broth, not cinnamon-y or like star anise, it was just right. Banh mi bo nuong - juicy and tender beef and balanced ingredients, not a dry banh mi. Thai iced ice - not too sweet, perfect actually and I love that I can taste the strong t0ea. Com suon heo nuong - comes with two grilled pork chops, needs more rice. Delicious 10/10. I loveeee lemongrass and the lemongrass chicken from Pho Anh Dao is FANTASTIC. I also am loving my lil pork banh mi where the pork is perfectly grilled and seasoned. I have to come back and try the lemongrass tofu. And I got this delivered! The only comparable place in the Bay Area for lemongrass chicken is Huong Tra in Richmond so if you are in the Berkeley Oakland area and can't drive out to San Pabby right now try this spot. The herbs and seasoning and greens are fresh and plentiful, the chicken is perfectly grilled. I had to dash off to get a curbside pickup at a local store so I figured why not take the opportunity and get some takeout for lunch. Every trip out of the house these days is like an adventure. And it gave me great pleasure to anticipate writing a review of a new restaurant for me, and supporting a local business. Unfortunately all my usual restaurant favorites were closed on Tuesdays and I was, in particular, wanting something warm and comforting on a cold fall day. Somehow Pho seemed to fit the desire. Since I was going through this part of the 'hood' for my curbside pickup I decided to give it a try. I had passed it countless times and wondered if it was any good, as it appeared long established at this location. Finding a web site I found I could order online and get a time for pickup and everything done easily. BINGO! I like that convenience these days... so I put in an order and it promptly confirmed a 15 minute pickup time. I got to the restaurant and sure enough it was ready, as they had even texted me to let me know. Great. Service was friendly and efficient. The restaurant seemed super clean and although I am reticent to enter anywhere these days I didn't feel uncomfortable. There were few patrons at a couple of tables as indoor dining is allowed now, but very sparse for lunch. They packaged everything very well for travel and I was really pleased as sometimes with takeout orders it spills and tumbles around if not firmly packed. I got the Bun Bo Hue, a spicy noodle soup/pho with beef and lots of extras, veggies and herbs, bean sprouts and the usual toppings. It was delicious and definitely hit the spot! Yum! The broth was competent and smooth with just enough spiciness. The beef was super tender and perfectly prepared. There was plenty for two meals. My spouse got the Com Ga Nuong, a barbeque chicken and rice dish with vegetables/salad. It, too, was perfectly prepared and delicious and the portion also large enough for two meals. We also got the spring rolls with a peanut dipping sauce. The ingredients were fresh and the lettuce crunchy, but the only downside was that some of the rice paper wrapping was rubbery and overly chewy. Prices are very good and I'll gladly return for either more comfort warmth of pho, or try something else. Glad this place finally fell on my radar. read more

For so long I've meant to patronize this business and finally, after discovering bahn mi sandwiches on the menu for a mere $8-9, I tried it. The inside is simple and clean. Once seated, about five minutes is given until they approach you to take the order. I've been here twice now. Both times I got a bahn mi (chicken and pork) plus a Thai Iced Tea. $14 and change! As the closest pho place to my home, I had high hopes. I will not return. The food was tasty, but certainly not standout (and I've tried 12 places locally within the last 3 months). The service was shameful-- somehow condescending. And the spicy sauce on the table was plain mediocre. But if you must go, get the shrimp clay pot. Phos are fine. Very nice guy, restaurant was empty Monday at 330pm. I ordered the chicken pho,it was ok not great and very expensive, just over $16 for a small. I wouldn't return, Pho Huong Que is my favorite, it's amazing and around $4 less, unfortunately they are closed through April 15th, no other pho places compare to their chicken pho. Candidly, their broth isn't that great. It's bland and requires a decent amount of hoisin and sriracha to taste yummy. They also do not use cilantro or offer it to add to their soup. Despite these two complaints, I do think they're worth the visit. Their portions are huge, esp if you order a large, and their meat quality is really fantastic. I recently went to Pho Anh Dao w/ a friend for dinner. We started w/ the Goi Cuon Chay/vegetarian spring rolls that comes w/ three springs rolls cut in half to make 6 rolls total. The peanut dipping sauce hit the spot. No Banh Mi on the menu yet there was eight vegetarian dishes that come served w/ rice or vermicelli noodles. We decided to share the Das Hu, Rau Dao That Cam/Sauteed tofu w/ mixed veggies in a house special sauce w/ the vermicelli noodles. The portions were hearty & the food was quite alright, I especially loved the house hot sauces as there was two of them that added a fair amount of heat as a little goes a long way. Knocking off a star as the food has gone downhill for me. The last 2 times I've order grilled chk over rice, they gave me braised or baked chicken which is not the same thing. There were no grill marks or grilled flavor and this last time I ordered, the smell, flavor, and texture felt off. Also I think I've ordered the egg roll vermicelli bowl around 10 times and I've never had it not be crispy. This last time they tasted stale like its been sitting out all day. I'll start off by saying I strongly feel your experience with Pho Anh Dao will depend on what you tend to order at Vietnamese restaurants and also how you like your broth. If you like lighter less salty broth (healthier in my opinion) you'll like Pho Anh Dao. If you tend to order meat dishes like roasted chicken with vermicelli or rice you'll like it as well. And if you like spring rolls you're at the right spot. But if you want darker saltier broth or a Vietnamese spot that goes all out with their pho this probably isn't going to strike you as amazing particularly if you have a favorite spot you are loyal to. I'm a huge fan of their vegetarian spring rolls though I'm not vegetarian. The peanut sauce it came with was light and the rolls were hearty. Their chicken over vermicelli has a ton of flavor and crispy skin. It's a healthy serving and worth the $9. Pros: Huge restaurant, delicious meat dishes and rolls. Cons: Not the most flavorful Pho broth out there. Bottom line: A great spot to refuel at after running or walking the lake. read more

I came here for their rice plate with bbq grilled pork which came with rice and 2 lettuce leaves and a tomato, fish sauce and a side of broth with cilantro. Meat flavorful, good portion, simple...a little pricier as i'm used to downtown pricing but that's quickly changing and averaging $9 these days. I've always had a good experience here. I like the food, pho is consistently tasty. I don't usually eat inside, I take my food to go. I'm 35 and I've been coming here since I was a kid. It hardly matters what my ethnicity is. I have a food Hole and put food in it. While I agree that gentrification has greatly altered the city of Oakland, I think any decrease in quality is the fault of 2 idiots who killed the owner while she was making a trip to the bank in August of 2018. So, if you're going to blame anyone for oily pho, blame them and the people who stopped caring after the owner died. You could probably even schedule jail visit and yell at them in person. After my mom's visit to the Frank Kiang Medical Center, we decided to dine at this restaurant as we were hungry for a late lunch. My husband and I ordered the chicken/prawn clay pot rice, which was quite good. It was piping hot and I had to let my lunch cool down some. The veggies were fresh, not overcooked, and overall it was pretty good. The portion was generous. My mom's bbq chicken was moist and tender - she enjoyed it. I would have given this restaurant a 4 star, but the only thing I had an issue with was one of the employees who was standing in the kitchen doorway constantly gave my husband (who is black) the stare down for some unknown reason, which I consider rude. read more

I used to love coming to Pho Anh Dao because they were the only good late night pho around and they serve beer. Granted I used to come here drunk wanting some good pho that wasn't the nastiness of the one on Grand. The staff have always been friendly and prices are good too. I was afraid they might struggle when Pho King opened up but, I can report that I didn't enjoy Pho Kings pho much and will gladly go to Anh Dao for my pho fixing when I'm in area. The food: I used to think Pho Anh Dao had the best pho broth and since then I've had lots of versions of pho and though I don't think they're the best pho broth I do believe they're up there for my taste buds. The pho comes out piping hot no matter what time of day or night you come. And they come out almost immediately after you order. The herbs are fresh and rice noodles cooked perfectly (no one like over cooked rice noodles). The broth is mild in flavor not bland and not overly fragrant. It's just right. They're Viet ice coffee is good also! End food review If you want a tasty bowl of pho and you want it fast come to Pho Anh Dao either the Oakland location or Alameda. They're both good. They say cash only but they've since installed a card reader for cards. Anh Dao deserve a lot more foot traffic through their doors. read more

This is one of my go-to Pho places in Oakland. They have an extensive menu, although I usually get a #1 w/ no tendon. The broth is better than average and the servings are plentiful. A side of crispy chicken wings is a must! Other dishes I have tried have not been a disaapointment either. The bbq chicken and shrimp noodle dish has a pile of rice vermicelli, vegetables, and a asian sauce/dressing that will keep you going back. The bun bo hue (spicy noodle soup) has a great kick and is not for the faint of heart. There are some items in there that you might not want to ask what they are, but make the dish delish. Drinks are the norm with thai tea, vietnamese coffee, and sodas, but I would recommend a three-bean drink if you want to give you taste buds a treat. Only down side.... CASH only, although there is a Chase next door or you can buy a pack of gum at the Lucky's across the street and pull out some cash. read more

Best pho I've had in US. They were reviewed years ago by the SF Chronicle & given the newspapers highest praise, which I fully concur with. They actually have a laminated copy of the original review behind the cashier counter. The pho is made with actual bone broth not artificial pho flavoring, this is a major plus to the holistic & healthy medicinal attributes of bone broth pho. I usually order 'Tai Nam' #12 with the round steak on the side raw. I add raw round steak to the hot pho upon serving which comes the raw steak. btw this lean beef pho with XL serving size which is enough for 2 small appetites or my 1 extremely large appetite. I also like the vermicelli dish#31 'Bún Tôm Gà Nùóng Chà Giò' (BBQ pawn, chicken& imperial roll over vermicelli). The ambience is decent& the seating is far enough apart that you'd have to struggle to listen in others conversations. In addition I once left my cell phone, went back the next day they had it in which I was thankful for it & gave an additional gratuity. read more
