A no frills, small hole-in-a-wall tofu shop that my husband and I found while we were in the East San Jose area. Their menu is limited to everything tofu. We had purchased a serving of their dessert tofu, and were pleasantly surprised with how fresh and hot it was. One serving of their dessert tofu is the usual "large" size that is sold at grocery stores. It came with a side of ginger syrup. The total cost was only $3.50. I was excited to have a bowl of tofu when getting home. Sure enough, the tofu was still warm and silky and the ginger syrup was just the perfect amount of sweet with just a small spoonful.  They are cash only. Their parking lot is small and is shared with other shops in the lot. The inside and outside of the shop leaves more to be desired. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for some good quality but cheap eats. read more

Thanks to Yelp for helping me find this hole in the wall. I got the deep-fried mushroom tofu which also had small pieces of vermicelli on it. 12 pieces for $3, very inexpensive and yummy. This is one of my family's go-to tofu shops for fresh dau hu nuoc duong because it's the best price ($3.50) for good quality we've found. It's not as tasty as some other pricier shops but still great! They also have affordable fresh made tofu and vegetarian sides as well. Fair warning that it's small and not the cleanest shop or nicest location but we're here for a quick pickup so no biggie. read more

You can find the cheapest and freshest tofu at this hole in the wall! One giant slab of white tofu for $1.50. It is almost $3 elsewhere. Not only it's inexpensive but the quality is up there. I used to like tofu at other places but I come to realized the tofus here are the best. It doesn't foam up when you fry them. You get the full "meaty" texture as you bite into it. read more

Wonderful tofu! Best in the bay area and we're lucky enough to have them in San Jose! I've prepared it fresh and it comes out great. This tofu is MICH more firm than what you'd get at trader Joe's or Safeway, even if you take the time to press. If you have the time, freeze it. First, it keeps wonderfully. Second, by letting this freeze throughout then defrost, you end up with a spongy texture that's fantastic for soaking up flavor and sauce. A smaller Vietnamese vegetarian deli, Binh Minh makes its own tofu and soy products (soft tofu pudding, soy milk, fried tofu). They also sell sauces, drinks and a refrigerated case with salads. They have bun bo hue and bun rieu. The menu won't be too helpful unless you understand what dau hu xa ot is. Dau hu tuoi refers to firm tofu. Dau hu chien is fried tofu. There's one table inside. * Plain uncooked tofu slab ($1.25): Seemed a little smaller than some other Vietnamese places, firm, dense, and very creamy, clean tasting, fresh though it wasn't warm * Fried lemongrass tofu cubes (6 for $1): Fried after ordering, hot, slightly crispy exterior, creamy inside with tiny bits of lemongrass, onion, chili for a little heat, good but cubes were smaller than usual * Tofu rolls: They look like and are about the size of big egg rolls. The wrapper is a thin, chewy bean curd sheet. The frying makes it pretty greasy. They come in different flavors. One was a vegetarian ham made out of ground tofu and a light pink in color. It didn't taste anything like ham but had a slightly sweet flavor. Rather bland but I guess that's to be expected with vegetarian ham. This place is off the hook! And that's hard to say about a tofu joint. Here's some things you should know ahead of time. 1. This in not a sit down place. This is strictly wholesale tofu. It's ready to eat, but this is not a restaurant type place. Expect to find warm trays of ready to eat fried tofu in several varieties. Perhaps some fresh veggie spring rolls wrapped in cellophane on Styrofoam trays. Various Vietnamese banana leaf wrapped rolls. One refrigerated cabinet full of Vietnamese condiments, soy milk, appetizers and ready to eat snacks. And one non refrigerated cabinet full of sauces, dried noodle, textured vegetable proteins and soup mixes. As for the tofu and spring rolls - what they don't have out front they will make for you on the spot. Yummy! And make sure to order a cup of the soft warm silky tofu with the ginger syrup. It's basically a dessert but because it's tofu it's loaded with protein! 2. This place is your classic "hole-in-the-wall". It's about the size of a large bedroom, and you'd swear that people are actually living in the back. It's warm and humid and the fixtures are well worn. 3. If you only speak English be prepared for a lot of pointing and nodding. If you can't speak Vietnamese, and you need an a detailed explanation about one of the products, just wait for a bilingual customer to come in to help you. 4. Cash only. And now on to the tofu. Bottom line - the tofu is incredibly tasty and cheap. You can get six big pieces of any variety for one dollar. Yes, just a buck. My favorites are the fired veggie triangles (tofu embedded with carrots, pea and rice noodles, and the fried mushroom squares (cubes of tofu embedded with black mushroom) The also have a lemon grass tofu that is very good, but I'm just not a big fan of lemon grass so I stick with the others. If tofu or Vietnamese food is your thing, and you want to stock your house vegetarian goodies, this is your place. read more

I am eating vegetarian for a whole month for the first time in my life and that is how I discovered this hidden gem. Otherwise, I would run away looking at this hole in the wall shop at glance. I tried its major competitor brand, ThanhSon and BinhMinh hand down is my personal favorite. The quality is what you would get homemade from your mum. I love their lemon grass fried tofu and soy milk. I will continue to support this business after my 1 month of vegetarian and pray hard for the owner good health to live a long life. I was TOFU HUNTING!!! and guess what I FOUND A GREAT SPOT!!!! I got $2 worth of fried tofu goodness from Binh Minh Tofu and they were so good!!! I usually go to Hung Vuong tofu but I was in the Tully Road area so I decided to get my tofu fix from Binh Minh. The tofu are saltier and I could taste some msg on them also the texture is softer than the ones I'm used, but hey they are soooo good!!! I've never stepped a foot in this place, but its food habitually appears on our dining table, in our fridge, in my plate. My mother, on her Asian Market Circuit through the traffic of hell on Tully, stops here and grabs the fried tofu, which is actually quite good and makes a nice snack with soy sauce. If I'm feeling the itch to eat carbs or starches, I pop in some tofu instead. They come ready and perfectly fried so all you have to do is heat it up. I also ate the vegetarian food they have here, which is pretty decent considering its price. Throw it in with some bum (noodles), fish sauce, and veggies, and you're good to go! I should actually see the restaurant, but traffic around there drives me absolutely nuts. And I can't get mad because all the drivers look like my mom, aunt, or grandpa. read more

This place is the place for anyone craving tofu. They have freshly made tofu ranging from desserts to side dishes to drinks, extremely delicious! My personal favorite is either the vegetable infused tofu (3 pcs for 1$) or the black mushroom infused tofu with vermicelli (6 pcs for 1$). The reason why the vegetable tofu is less pieces is because the tofu is bigger than the mushroom one. Great grab for breakfast as well! They provide a fork and napkins if you need it if you ask. Customer service is good, just a little language barrier, but not hard to overcome. Parking is cramped and a might be hard to get out of the lot, but nothing too troubling! read more

My friend mentioned one day that she was getting tofu.... and she said she knows of a place that makes BOMB tofu...so she picked me up some and WOW that tofu is BOMB. I had the stuffed Tofu... it had the thin noodles and veggies in it!! WHHEEWWWWW it was sooooo good... From what I heard it was about 2 bucks for like 12 pieces of tofu... I hear it's a real hole in the wall place, but obviously the food is really good. I had 3 wedges of tofu for lunch and I was soooo full.. a nice salad on the side would have made that perfect... Was craving for some soft tofu with the sweet ginger syrup and drove up and down Tully searching. Finally saw this little sign that said Binh Minh Tofu and decided to give it a try. It's in a small strip mall right before the 101 junction (on the side of McLauglin) and I think it's next to a Bun Bo Hue place. It's small and dark, and for a second, I thought it wasn't even opened. But looking inside, saw a small line of customers. Most people were getting different hot/fried foods to-go. The lady up front was nice, and when I mentioned tofu, she knew that I was looking for the soft tofu. A large is $2.25 and is enough to feed three small portions or two large portions. With an extra container of syrup (which I actually didn't need because they gave plenty already!) it was $2.50. The tofu is soft and not grainy. Piping hot even after the 15 min ride home. Definitely a wonderful wonderful treat instead of going to dim sum and ordering a small bowl for the same price. Woohoo! read more

The store is already small, but does the variety of the food they have makes the store look very empty and roomy. The only thing I got was Vietnamese pickles. The cheapest protein fix EVER :) 6 pieces of tofu for $1, WOW! I have been going to Binh Minh for almost 9 years now and it never leaves me unhappy. My favorite is the onion tofu or the mushroom tofu. I have tried their veggie eggrolls too on occasion and they are deliciously crunchy and light. I have also tried the mini sesame balls they have once in awhile and I LOVE them! The only reason I don't give this place a 5 instead is because sometimes I have communication difficulty with the older woman who works there almost daily. She speaks some English, but sometimes I do alot of smiling and nodding and that's ok because she usually gets the idea. I wish they also had one of those point and choose 2 items w/ rice kind of thing there. I think it would be a hit if they had that option available w/ some other tofu-styles. My suggestion, if you are planning to buy tofu for a large party call ahead of time to pre-order or you'll be waiting for your tofu for a bit. read more

This place is pretty much as everyone describes. It is more like a convenient store than a restaurant. They have various odds and ends, like soda, dry noodles, and soy milk (have not tried). But the Tofu is pretty much the only reason to go. They had 3 or 4 different kinds of fried Tofu and silk. We went there to stock up for the week and we are very happy we did. Hole in a wall tofu place, found this place on Yelp because I was tired of Thanh Son's tofu and saw how this place fried your tofu on the spot and decided to stop by to satisfied my tofu craving! The shop itself is full of boxes, stacking on top of each other, very messy but hey what do you expect? I got the large lemongrass tofu which cost me $2 and it took about 2-4 minutes to come out. It was super crunchy, you can definitely taste the lemongrass and it was so addicting. I finished the bag before I even got home. Regret not getting more but I will be back. I speak 0 Vietnamese and the woman at the cash register speaks very little English. She usually giggles when I walk in because it turns into me playing charades to describe that I'd like to buy tons of their yummy fried tofu, their delicious spring rolls or this awesome dessert tofu with syrup they sell. My friend had made me a flash card to hand to her, but I usually forget it when I get the urge for this food. It's pretty freekin' delicious.
