Finding good banh khot in the area is difficult lol. I've heard so much about SJ Eggrolls so I was excited to try them out for the first time! I read up on some reviews before coming in and learned there could be a long wait, so I ended up calling in ~30 minutes before I planned on getting there. A great deal with tasty food! I visited on a Wednesday afternoon, and it was surprisingly busy. The interior is spacious but only has a couple tables. We waited for a bit, and a table opened up shortly after. You place your order with the cashier before finding a seat. The atmosphere of SJ Eggrolls is casual, with a huge TV playing sports and minimal decor. The food arrived soon after I ordered. Their signature net egg rolls are phenomenal. I am obsessed with the crunchy net wrapping - it was the perfect crispy texture. The filling of pork and shrimp was savory and delicious. Ordered online from their website and walked in to pick it up. It was a bit of a wait on a Friday morning which was surprising but great to know the food is coming out fresh. I arrived about 10 minutes prior to my estimated pickup time and the egg rolls (netted and regular) were ready but the Banh Khot were still being cooked. The estimated pickup time on the website was pretty accurate. Everything made the 35 minute journey home and stayed crispy!! The regular egg rolls were tasty but nothing special. The netted egg rolls however, I'd come back for. They were crispy all throughout and the filling was well seasoned. The Banh Khot were very crispy with a nice and pleasant chew from the coconut batter. My husband loved the flavor and texture. I highly recommend order online in advance as the wait can be about 30-40 minutes. Upon arriving, the inside was packed with people waiting for their orders. I ordered the 6 eggrolls and asked for 3 regular eggrolls and 3 netted eggrolls so that I could try both. The eggrolls come with veggies (lettuce, mint, and cilantro). It also came with pickled veggies and fish sauce. I also ordered 4 of their nem nuong as not every Vietnamese spot offers this type of spring roll. These have grilled pork in them rather than pork and shrimp. It comes with its own sauce which I'm not sure what its made of. The nem nuong were delicious with the grilled pork and there is a crispy component inside, too. They taste fresh and the sauce is tangy. I like the addition of the small chili sauce they give you on the side. The real show stoppers have to be the eggrolls though. They are perfectly crispy and filled with delicious pork filling. The veggies they provide are really fresh and the pickled veggies helps to add more depth. The eggrolls themselves don't feel too heavy or oily either which I really appreciated. Ingredients are fresh but could I say SJ Eggrolls are better than King Eggroll??? Not exactly. It's kind of like comparing apples to oranges. Yes, they are all eggrolls but the fillings are polar opposites and one place provides sweet n sour sauce [bomb af might I add] vs the other offering nuoc mam. I had the pleasure of trying both the regular and the netted version. The regular can be eaten as is but the netted version contains a thick outer casing that requires some kind of sauce to avoid it from coming off bland IMO. Although I'm a diehard King Eggroll girl (raised in Berryessa, that's why), i'm always down to sample contenders. Love that the egg rolls here are fried to order and that they offer one of my favorite Vietnamese dishes, banh khot. Both came with generous amounts of veggies, pickled veggies, and nuac cham, all thoughtfully, beautifully packaged. Been craving for banh khot for the longest time and finally a well worthy spot to get some. they are freshly made to order, crispy as it should be and are not small like the usual sizes you get at other places. you get 8 pieces of banh khot with some herbs and lettuce for a wrap. they also provide you with pickled carrots and daikon and nước chấm as well. all this roughly around $14. we also ordered their goi cuon (spring rolls) with shrimp and pork, which comes with their house dipping sauce. we ordered two sets of 5 spring rolls. which is about $15 pe set of 5. all delicious and will definitely be coming back again. the service here was pretty quick. When i just barely ordered my food, the wait time wasn't bad. it took about 15 minutes. service was very friendly and they made it very inviting to come in. the place was pretty neat and clean. it is located near where Sprouts market is, but in the back end near Little Ceasar's pizza. This was our first time at SJ Egroll, and it definitely won't be our last! The food was amazing, and everyone who worked there was incredibly kind, welcoming, hospitable and humble. One thing that really stood out was how light the egg rolls were. Usually, after eating egg rolls, I feel like I've had something heavy and greasy, but not here. I ordered the 6-net egg roll dish, and they were perfectly crispy, light, and not greasy at all. My daughter ordered the three fresh shrimp spring rolls, and she absolutely loved them. Been wanting to try this place for forever and I'm so glad I did. I'm very very satisfied. Make sure to order ahead! All the food is made to order so it takes 10+ minutes depending on how busy they are. The workers were super nice though and we got our order very fast since we were waiting in store. It's getting increasingly harder to find egg rolls that are freshly fried and taste good at a reasonable price. I've mostly resorted to making it at home. But these were AMAZING! some of the best I've had (and I am picky~)! Their banh khot were really good too and came with all the right veggies and herbs! When your Viet mom tells you there's a new Vietnamese spot in town she checked out, you pay attention because Viet moms are the top competitors of local Viet restaurants. SJ Eggrolls menu has but a few items, which I actually like in restaurants. Aside from reducing diner decision fatigue, a succinct menu means they hone in on making a few things, hopefully well. This is certainly the case here. The must get items are definitely the netted eggrolls and bánh khọt. Fresh, flavorful, and hot, these are the stars of the menu. Not to be forgotten are the supporting cast of regular eggrolls and bún tôm thịt. All these items are pretty solid, but one spot sorely lacking is that there are not enough greens for the bánh khọt and egg rolls. At least for takeout, each of these items only comes with a few leaves of lettuce, not even one for each egg roll or bánh khọt, and just as sparse sprigs of herbs. Another negative note is on one instance when my friends and I ordered bún thịt nướng takeout, I found a metal string in the skewer of pork. That turned me off and I haven't been back since then unfortunately. Lastly, a double edged sword here as well: the food is made fresh, but that means the wait can be long, sometimes even when you order ahead. Hopefully this was just growing pains. I really hope they've sorted out the food safety situation, upped the veggies in the takeout, and improved wait times. Their banh khot is the star of the show. We ordered 20 pieces to share and it comes with a side of fresh veggies- lettuce, mint, cilantro. Nuoc cham (Vietnamese dipping sauce) is also included. I've seen this spot in my social media feeds for a while now and finally made the almost 400 mile trip up north to try them out. It is no exaggeration to say these were some of the best egg rolls I've ever had! Top 3 for sure, delightfully crisp, packed with filling, great flavor, I can't recommend them enough! I also tried the Banh Khot, I'd never had them before and I would pick the egg rolls over them but they were pretty tasty. I love that both items came with a baggie of veg, I got lettuce, mint, and cilantro and they also provided a sauce and shredded carrot and daikon. I ordered online through their website and received a confirmation that my order would be ready at 1:37 PM. At 1:38 PM, I got a text saying my order was ready, so I drove over to pick it up. When I gave the employee my order number, he turned around and started organizing trays without saying a word. There was no explanation that the order was delayed or not actually ready. At first I thought he was getting my food, but after waiting I decided to sit down. The actual wait ended up being a little over 20 minutes. If the order is not ready, please do not send a text saying it is. If the notifications are automatic, that system needs to be fixed so customers are not making unnecessary trips and waiting longer than expected.
