Dau hu nuoc duong - silken tofu with a spicy, sweet ginger syrup ($2)
Tiffany T.

CASH ONLY. This is a little hidden gem right across from Duc Huong Sandwiches. I always come here while waiting for my banh mi order and grab a half gallon of soymilk ($4)! You can choose between sweetened (green cap) or unsweetened (orange cap). They make the soymilk fresh in house and it's always creamy, lightly sweet and very delicious! I've also tried their dau hu nuoc duong, also known as taho (filipino) or douha (chinese), which is essentially silken tofu with a spicy, sweet ginger syrup ($2 small, $4 large). SO GOOD HERE!! They also offer other various vegetarian meals to eat in house as well as fried tofu by the piece to snack on (lemongrass or green onion). Definitely a hidden gem I've been coming to for years!

Don't buy soy milk from this place. They sold spoiled soy milk. I didn't notice and drank a bit. I got food poisoning.

Their noodle dishes arent bad. But this time around the rice was uncooked they gave me more rice than the sides.... sad. their banh bo was also very old and stale.

Very good fried tofu. I like that they add lemongrass. They also fried the tofu to order which was great

OMG. What happened to this place ? Overpriced & short changing like hell. No shame of exhibiting ultimate greediness while still hanging the Buddha pictures. Bought a medium curry with a few pieces of ingredients inside. Mostly the curry sauce. It's a ~6oz container and it costs a ridiculous $11.50. I can buy a full meal with that price already. But, guess what ? If you want the large size, it's $23. Go shop at other restaurants. Save your money on this.

12$ 2 item combo w bamboo and string beans

Been here at least 30y. Wide variety of hot steam table combo boxes. 2 Items where rice or noodles doesn't count as an item for $12. Lowest price/portion ratio in 2024. Low rent area on Story Road in older strip center. Hard to find; on end. The alley next to them used to have homeless sleeping there until they fenced it off with wrought iron fencing. I let the sweet cashier pick the items. Ended up trying a fried chicken made from tofu and sweet and sour veggie combo with pineapple. Bitter melon available in vegetarian version without the stuffed pork. Very unique and flavorful. Impossible to name all the items. There is no equivalent in any other place. Soups good for eat there. Fresh noodles and vegetables with vegetarian broth. No CWD prions unlike other places. Going to be a much bigger issue in the future with increasing cognitive decline.

Đông Phong Tofu is a small Vietnamese tofu shop located in an otherwise busy shopping plaza right across from McDonalds. Famous for its party tray, noodle soup, chow mein, egg rolls, combo lunch and tofu freshly made though it's mostly take-out orders though they do have a limited space for dine-in. I've been a regular customer for the past seven years and the staff are so attentive and very helpful even when it's crowded best to come by early than later. They have an extensive menu items posted on the wall and it's cash only. My favorites are the small Vietnamese pancakes (bánh khọt), vermicelli noodles, spring rolls and tofu. Prices have gone up over the years but, very reasonable more so than some of these high end Vietnamese restaurants. Bought two small size of stir-fried rice noodles (mì xào) and vermicelli noodles $5 each and the ladies are very generous with the portions so no cutting back. Parking is a real challenge on the weekends not so much on a Friday afternoon. By the way it's cash only policy.

CASH ONLY, and NO ATM ON SITE. It's no wonder this spot has been around for so long. Just a classic Vietnamese cuisine inspired vegetarian takeout joint. I can't say all items are vegan but for sure, everything is vegetarian. Many of their items are made to look or at least have the texture of meat-like dishes, but are in fact made of soy, etc. The best part is that anything you order from here ACTUALLY tastes like the real deal -- savory and with all the right spices and seasonings. I was a Vegetarian for a while, and even a Vegan for a hot minute, and if I ever switched back to either of those diets -- this would be my go-to spot for all Vietnamese food cravings. Love supporting this locally owned small business!

Bun thit nuong $13.50

This place is a tasty vegan spot. I got a bowl with vermicelli and mock pork with vegetables. It was very tasty and fresh. I thought it came with spring rolls or rolls in the picture but it didn't come with it. That was a bit of a bummer but this was still filling. This is definitely more of a hole in the wall place.

Half flat and vermicelli noodles. With stuffed bitter melon, imitation lemongrass chicken, and seaweed rolled imitation meat. So yum!

Ma and pa vegan shop. Cash only. This place is really hidden away. This place has last ever since I was a teen, glad to see it still standing. Haven't had the food in forever decided to try it again and I'm so glad I did. The dishes were as flavourful as I remembered. Will definitely be coming back to support this little gem. Tell me what you think.

We waited for a bit, and a table opened up shortly after. You place your order with the cashier before finding a seat. The atmosphere of SJ Eggrolls is casual, with a huge TV playing sports and minimal decor. The food arrived soon after I ordered. Their signature net egg rolls are phenomenal. I am obsessed with the crunchy net wrapping - it was the perfect crispy texture. The filling of pork and shrimp was savory and delicious. It paired well with lettuce, mint, pickled carrots, and a sweet chili sauce. I loved the spring rolls as well. They tasted super fresh and had a variety of fillings. The Chinese sausage spring roll was my absolute favorite. The salty sausage contrasted well against the clean, fresh vegetables. Every dish was a very good price. I arrived about 10 minutes prior to my estimated pickup time and the egg rolls (netted and regular) were ready but the Banh Khot were still being cooked. The estimated pickup time on the website was pretty accurate. Everything made the 35 minute journey and stayed crispy!! The regular egg rolls were tasty but nothing special. The netted egg rolls however, I'd come back for. They were crispy all throughout and the filling was well seasoned. The Banh Khot were very crispy with a nice and pleasant chew from the coconut batter. My husband loved the flavor and texture. I wasn't a huge fan of the coconut flavor being so prominent but I know that's a staple of Banh Khot batter. Next time I'd skip the regular egg rolls but I'm happy I tried them!

The mam tom had a strong flavor (as expected), but it was balanced well and tasted authentic. Mixing it with the noodles, herbs, and peanuts made for a great combination of textures and flavors. Portions were generous, service was friendly, and the food came out pretty quickly even though the restaurant was busy. It's not always easy to find Vietnamese dishes like these done well in the South Bay, so I was happy to find a spot that delivers. I'll definitely be back to try more of the menu.

Despite it being in a big lot, parking still took a while to find. Thankfully, we had thankfully just beat the lunch rush and not had to wait longer than 10 minutes for a table. My friend and I shared a Northern spread (Bun Cha Ha Noi) and a Southern style Goat Curry (Banh Mi Cari De). Service was definitely on the slower side that day, but thankfully we were proactive at getting the orders in. The Bun Cha Ha Noi was delicious - pretty much a DIY spring roll - all the fun, all the mess, with none of the clean up other than licking the plates clean. The pork belly was delicious; I was surprised how much I liked it, since I'm not a fan of pork. I devoured numerous rolls, and we also had some extra vermicelli to finish off the rest of the protein. This single meal was definitely more than enough for two! The Banh Mi Cari De (goat curry) was unfortunately quite the opposite. The goat was cooked very well - tough, gamy, and difficult to eat. There were probably six pieces in total, our first was tender, our second had bone, a little harder to chew, and the last was best compared to rubber. The curry was a bit watery, which made the banh mi soggy when dipped in. This was probably an adventurous try, but not a dish I'd ever consider ordering again.

If you can't find parking in that plaza, there's more parking across the road where the Target is. After spending about ten minutes on the written wait-list, our names were called. It's definitely a little easier communicating with much of the staff if you speak Vietnamese, and I find that waiting right outside the restaurant is best because they default to calling your name from the door once it's your turn. The interior is crammed with tables; the atmosphere feels busy and warm. There is a single room women's bathroom and men's bathroom in the back as well. The decor leans toward being classic more than trendy, which I liked. The menu is pretty big, offering a variety of items ranging from mainstream Vietnamese options to ones I don't encounter as often. I recommend eating family-style for many of these dishes, including the Bún Chả Cá Lã Vọng, which I enjoyed with my partner. The prices are pretty average, and their portions are generous. That said, they are cash or Zelle only. There is an ATM that you can use if you forget to bring cash, but this is still something to keep in mind. Overall, I can definitely see myself coming back. I wish I had the stomach capacity to try more of their dishes at once, and I 100% recommend that anyone give this place a shot.

Of course, I had to order all the essentials: banh beo, banh nam, banh loc, banh ram it, and cha. I was especially craving Bun Bo Hue, so that was my main dish, while my friend ordered the Mi Quang. The appetizers were all good and definitely satisfied my craving for Hue-style snacks. Unfortunately, the Bun Bo Hue was disappointing. The broth had a strange flavor and was missing the rich, hearty depth that makes Bun Bo Hue so comforting and memorable. I honestly found it surprising that a restaurant specializing in Hue cuisine would miss the mark on one of its most iconic dishes. Another thing I noticed was that the vermicelli noodles were broken into many small pieces, which made me feel like they weren't particularly fresh. It definitely affected the overall eating experience. Before leaving, I also ordered a banh canh to go. That ended up being really good, though I personally wasn't a fan of the fresh-cut noodles. By the time I got home, they had expanded quite a bit in the broth and became softer than I prefer. Overall, I enjoyed everything except the Bun Bo Hue. The appetizers were solid, the banh canh was tasty, and I'd come back for those items. However, the Bun Bo Hue is one dish I probably won't order again.

I noticed cobwebs that appeared to have been hanging in place for a long time, along with dirt and grime collecting in corners throughout the dining room. Even the menus felt sticky, with a visible film of grease and small food particles still clinging to them. The faded print and worn condition made them look as though they hadn't been replaced in years. Those details created an impression of neglect that made it difficult to relax and enjoy the meal. With a thorough deep cleaning and some updated menus, this restaurant could create a much more welcoming dining experience.
