And let me tell you how it reminded me so much of how it tasted in Hue. Soft and delicate with a nice crunch of pork rind and light fish sauce. Next the Banh Ram It IS A MUST! I've tried many before and this one had such a nice crunch and mochi texture. I loved it so much ! Bun Bo Hue was absolutely amazing, soft meat and flavorful broth. I of course like to add my extra SATE and Mam ruoc (shrimp paste) . There's so much more items on the menu I was very interested in trying. Customer service went well. My husband took me here for lunch during midweek. This restaurant used to be Bun Bo Hue #1. There was one party eating when we arrived and we were not even greeted. We just sat down and it took several minutes before the owner (?) brought the menu out with the paper liner for the table. He left and came back a little while later to take our order. We ordered the following: -1 order of banh beo -2 orders of bun bo hue: Decent size bowl. The noodles were a little overcooked and broken but there is a hefty amount of ingredients. The slices of meat need to be cooked a little longer but overall, it was chewable. The blood cubes were overcooked as it was very firm breaming up in a powdery texture as you chew on it. The broth was decent but not flavorful. There is a light aroma of the BBH fragrant. Hubby and I had to add the shrimp paste though this paste looks different and its texture is thick. Today, the server kept asking me to order the Bun bo Hue Dac biet Speacial and I saw on the menu that they only display the price $15.90 for Bun Bo Hue and the Bun Bo Hue Dac Biet Special is not displayed on the menu or anywhere in the store. Although my go to spot for Bun Bo Hue is now Que on Silver Creek, I wanted to stop by to see how Bun Bo Hue Dong Ba was doing after it replaced the Seafood Hut that I grew up eating. Although the prices were reasonable, the taste isn't the same. Not only were the portions smaller, but the cha isn't as sweet as I remember, a characteristic of cha que. There's a variety of different dishes on the menu now, but it is a mix and match of Vietnamese dishes like hu tieu that doesn't really make sense in a restaurant that formerly sold bun bo hue at every table... Pros: Reasonable prices that haven't increased as much as some other restaurant from rising food costs. Taste isn't as good as Hue or the former Seafood Hut, but still decent if you are in the area. I grew up coming to this place with my family for their Banh Beo and Bun Bo Hue. These are their two staple dishes. The restaurant recently had an ownership change within the last couple of years and they've definitely done a great job renovating the place and making it look more modern. Went here as a kid, and happy to come back and see the changes to this place. They remodeled and the inside looks more modern and they keep it really clean as well. All of the side dishes are worth getting. My favorite was the Banh Beo. It was steamy and fresh unlike other places. I was shocked at how good the Banh Nam was. I never liked it as a kid, but the way they do it is really good. The Pho was unique. The broth is clear and had more of a cinnamon spice to it than normal, which I liked a lot. Even though there's a pretty large parking lot, it's usually crowded, the parking spots are super narrow and there's lots of terrible drivers. We came around 2:30pm on a Saturday and the restaurant was nearly empty, so we got seated right away. There's about 8 tables so it's pretty small. Not sure if it's just the original Bun Bo Hue and they just renovated and renamed it Bun Bo Hue Dong Ba? They have the same menu items as before from what I remember. It took awhile for the unfriendly older gentlemen to bring us some menus, even though we were the only diners there at that point.. But eventually we ordered.. BANH BEO (5) $4.95 -ground shrimp over round rice cakes. It came with a small bowl of fish sauce with sliced jalapeños. The banh beo were super soft, fresh and tasty! They were super skimpy on the pork rinds and the few prices we did have were kinda hard.. I thought I was going to crack my teeth when I bit into some pieces. We had to soak them in the fish sauce to try to soften them up. I recommend eating all the banh beo as soon as they come out because they become cold really quick and not as enjoyable. BANH RAM IT $4.95 -steamed dumpling atop fried dumpling with shrimp and pork. These were fresh but pretty small. The steamed dumpling was soft and the fried dumpling was not crispy in some areas because they were a tad oily. BUN BO HUE $13.90 -hue's rice noodle. It came with a plate of fresh veggies that typically go with bun bo hue. It had a few pieces of cha, sliced beef and a blood cube. Pretty decent sized portion. My husband ordered this and thought it was too light and bland for his taste. He had to add more fish sauce, a lot of chili sate and he also asked for more lemon. When we finished, we went to the cashier area to pay. Overall the food was okay and service was whatever. We basically ordered the most common Hue specialties and we we were not satisfied. Also, the older gentleman who took our order, seemed annoyed if we wanted anything else. By the time we left, the restaurant got a little busy again and it was nearly half full. This is my partner's childhood go-to place to eat with his mom and dad, and he recently introduced it to me! I have no idea how I lived a lot of my life not knowing about this hidden gem. I brought one of my coworkers here to reminisce flavors of home (since she hadn't been able to see her family in Vietnam) and she totally loved the flavors and ambience of this place! The owner was also incredibly sweet when he found out she was trying to take pictures of her food to commemorate her visit. He had his cooking staff rush to complete our dishes so that our appetizers (the banh beo and banh ram it) wouldn't get cold, lol. An absolute solid eats at a lovely family owned business! I have been coming to this small restaurant for many years and it is still the same as it was the first time I came here. I always get their Banh Beo and Banh Ram It. Their Banh Beo are always super thin and soft all the way through and have a slight gummy texture. They are great for their small side dishes however the Bun Bo hue is average to other places. The Bun Bo Hue has flavor missing in their broth and not a ton of meat is included in the bowl. Service can be basic, you should expect only to come here to get authentic Vietnamese food. They have limited servers that can speak English well so it can be hard to order. I find it better to just point at the pictures on the menu than trying to explain what you want. read more

We met the owner and she informed us that the previous owner has past, so she took over the restaurant. Service was amazing - it wasn't the typical Vietnamese restaurant service with people yelling or are rude. The owner was extreme accommodating and provided us with whatever we needed. Portions were decent. We ordered Banh Beo and they were a lot bigger than the ones at Hue Restaurant. I also ordered the Bun Bo Hue. The broth was very flavorful and well made. I still prefer home made or An Nam, but this was still yummy and reasonably priced! My bf ordered the Com Hen (rice and clams) and the bowl it came out in was huge. While we were in San Jose a few months ago, Wifey wanted some Vietnamese food. But she didn't want the usual Pho...she wanted something completely different, and something that we haven't tried before. Gee....where can we get some excellent Vietnamese food in San Jose? Luckily, we were in the Vietnam capital in the U.S.A. Please don't crucify me. Yelp to the rescue and drove to this location in a typical strip mall in the Southland. What drew us here are these bite-sized things we saw on the pictures - kinda reminded us of Dim Sum, but completely different and new to us. It was exciting, and the server was kind enough to explain things to us. I also wanted a bowl of Bun Bo Hue ($6.75), so I ordered that to share. We selected the Banh Ram It (3 pieces for $3.50 - steamed dumpling atop fried dumpling with shrimp and pork), Banh Bot Loc (3 pieces for $3.50 - shrimp and pork tapioca in a clear dumpling), Banh Beo (5 pieces for $3.50 - ground shrimp with chicharon over rice cake) and Cha Hue ($1.75 - Hue's steamed pork sausage inside a rice patty). The Bun Bo Hue was a mixture of nasty tasty bits that Asians love to it. You have fish cake, coagulated blood cube sausages, pork and meat. It was filling and willing participant to satisfy our hunger. Broth was slurptacular with a hint of fish sauce for added flair. The Banh Beo was fun to eat. You grab a piece of fried pork skin (similar to chicharon) and scoop the rice cake and ground shrimp together and guide it to your mouth for full effect. The Banh Bot Loc was filled with shrimp and pork that was wonderful to eat. If we have to choose our least favorite, it would have to the Cha Hue. It's a steamed rice cake with pork sausage inside wrapped in leaves (I think it's banana leaves, but not sure). It was bland and could hardly taste the pork. But the Ban Ram It was a hit. Not only was it fun to eat, it had different layers of texture and flavors that we've never had before. It was so good and delicious that we ordered another plate of these things. Been going to here forever. The place has been remodeled! The food came out nice and fresh. Especially the grilled pork in the bun thit nuong. I can taste and smell the aroma of the lemongrass. The vermicelli was warm and fine (thin). Not pictured but the bun dau mam thom comes with rice paper roll at No Extra Charge. The pork belly/ pork shank was fresh and hot. I used to come here as a kid all the time when I lived in the area. Coming back after so many years was nostalgic in itself. This restaurant is a hidden gem and I would recommend everyone in the area try it! The service was great and the workers are super nice and wanted to make sure everything was perfect with our meal. Of course, I had to get their Banh Beo (Ground Shrimp over Round Rice Cakes) and it's exactly like I remembered! Banh Beo is not one of my favorite food but I love how thin and flavorful this place makes it. The fish sauce was also really good and the jalapenos added a nice spicy kick to the appetizer. I'm not sure how to rate this place. First time here. Ordered two crab tofu noodle. Great variety of food and delicious taste. But.. The sanitizing is horrible. The fish sauce was light but it paired perfectly with the banh bot loc. And the jalapeno was sliced very thin so it wasn't spicy to me when I ate it altogether. This is a pretty outdated place and I have no complaints because it looks exactly how I remembered it when I was little. My parents would take me here for our 20+ plates of banh Beo and I'll never forget being a goof ball in front of the wall mirrors that gave the restaurant the illusion of looking large.
