We were in town visiting and of course had to stop here for breakfast. Super cute décor and friendly service. We ordered a couple latte's and their breakfast tacos. We tried the pork and steak tacos, both were amazing!! Could have eaten a dozen more!! This little place has only been open about a year. They offer cafe style breakfast...light and fast. Not a biscuit and gravy sort of place. You really have to look for this place. It sits in an old house and blends in with the neighborhood who fb is a cool this as it does not take away from the setting. The staff we very friendly as they quickly took our order. One of the things my wife liked about it was the fact they served various types of teas. We both ordered Honestly Beef Steak tacos. I got a Minute Maid Apple Juice in a bottle and my wife got a Tongue Thai latte. The food is made as you order. The tacos were about 4-5 inches long and packed with eggs, steak, potato (or so appeared to be). On a side table was various sorts of hot sauces to indulge in along with sriracha sauce. These items combined together put these tacos over the top. Seating was indoor, front porch, and out the back. So if you want to chill this would be a great spot for that. Total cost of the food was $24. This is a little dive place but should I return will be one that I visit again. read more

The best part about the Bird Dog Cafe is... the Bird Dog Cafe. We went in close to closing time and the folks there acted like it was the middle of their shift. They were so accommodating and didn't care that we could keep them past closing time. We did our best not to take advantage of their kindness, so we tried to order simple and easy dishes. The food was good, the service was great and the atmosphere was as warm and inviting as your favorite aunt's house. Laurel, MS is such a cool little town and there is a lot to check out, so why not pop in and see the nice staff of the Bird Dog Cafe for some true Southern hospitality and some delicious food. read more

Sisters Trip- we came to Laurel because of our love for "Hometown". The town did not disappoint and we loved our experience at Bird Dog Cafe. We each tried different entrees. I opted for salad with chicken breast added. My daughter got Hot Chicken and she said the bread was fabulous. My sisters got the Stuff Chicken special and two of them shared the meal. Very cute atmosphere with really friendly staff. Loved the back patio seating area. I had the chicken salad sandwich with side salad. It was really yummy but the bread was really hard. I'm sure it was supposed to be but this girls old bad teeth had trouble with it. Salad had a vinegarette dressing on it but was just greens. Overall for $12 it was a little scant. Hubby had the Cuban which I got a bite of and it was yummy! He chose chips on the side. Once again for $12 and a six inch sandwich it was a small portion. He also had a chocolate peanut butter muffin which was good but a little dry. Not much peanut butter either. Wide variety of drinks. Definitely a tourist attraction. Believe the hype. Everything about this place is delightful, including and especially the food. This is a walkable location from downtown, and honestly I'd highly recommend walking rather than driving if you can. Not a ton of parking options but plenty of seating including indoor and outdoor options. We'd seen Bird Dog on HGTV's Home Town (as I'm sure many others have), and I was honestly a little bit skeptical before we arrived - good TV editing can cover a ton of bad reality, but this place is even better in person than on the show. The space is simply beautiful. It's abundantly obvious that every pair of hands that worked on remodeling this place put their heart and soul into it. The quality of the work cannot be overstated. The colors are beautiful, and the decor was amazing. As we sat at our little 2 person marble top table by a window, enjoying our delicious sandwiches (a Cuban for me and a meatball for my husband), I admired every detail of the space. The chairs are sort of mismatched, but in a delightfully deliberate way. The wall of windows that divides the large community table from the rest of the eat-in space is equal parts functional and beautiful. The church pew lining the wall next to us for a row of two-top tables looked like it was always supposed to be there. Such a clever repurposing! I wasn't even mad at the collection of taxidermy mounted everywhere, including the bear staring directly at me for my entire meal. After all, it's his house, not mine. I'm just grateful he let me eat in peace. I'm generally a water-and-coffee-only-kind-of-gal but the scratch-made lemonade choice they had caught my eye and I couldn't say no. I can't remember exactly what was in it, but I know there was a hint of mint in there. Fresh and delightful - not too sweet, not too tart. I got the impression the lemonade flavor changes daily, which is fun. Beyond that, the sandwiches we ordered were unbelievably good. I did not have supremely high expectations for the food, but it blew me away. All the kudos in the world to this business and all involved in creating and maintaining it - from the designers and the owners to the wonderfully friendly staff who served us. This is a quaint place to meet friends but I believe you need to know that the food is okay. I ordered the chicken salad sandwich which was supposed to be served on a brioche bun or even a croissant and it came out on toasted regular bread. No one said that they were out or that they weren't serving it like that anymore but that's how it came out. I would have ordered something different possibly. The chicken salad is tasty but it is not very plentiful on the bread. I ordered a side salad with it and it was mediocre at best. The lettuce looked tired but the vinaigrette was tasty. We were excited to eat here as we have seen the renovation and opening on Hometown, however the food was just average. Ordered the scrambled eggs a la carte. They were not scrambled at all, they were overcooked. The bacon was good, the sausage was not. My stepmom ordered the sausage and to her dismay she did not like. The staff was very friendly, and we were served pretty quickly. The bathroom was out of order and I was told to use the other bathroom, which was weird because it has a tub and all. We went because we enjoy Home Town on hgtv, the renovation of the property was great . The food left a lot to be desired. The menu is extremely limited, the prices rather outrageous considering the portions. I ordered the crawfish Mac and Cheese @ $22. Although it was good, there wasn't a whole lot of crawfish. My companion ordered the chicken pot pie, no crust, but a lot of croutons and it was more of a soup, almost no chicken and less than a spoonful of vegetables. Most disgusting service and lack of food I've ever experienced. We came from West Tennessee, and met family from Tyler, Tx for the weekend. We received recommendations from a local merchant that we should try Bird Dog Cafe because of their highly rated breakfast pastries. We went on Saturday morning arriving at 8:30, and we were the only ones there. Thinking this was strange we went in and they only had a very hard dried out scone available. We ordered the scone and other items from the very limited menu along with coffee and it just got worse from there. I got my scone and then had to wait for ten minutes to get my coffee. I was about to be choked from the dry pastry. My wife had something called grits with toppings and it was totally inedible, and the other's got some sort of oatmeal and it was even worse. They finally got their drinks, (20) minutes later after we had eaten what we could of what we had ordered. This was such a horrible experience, we walked downtown and ate a very good breakfast at SweetSomethings. They have a huge selection of fresh baked pastries available at all times. Going to Laurel to see where Aaron and Ben have built so many beautiful places we had watched the whole episode of the bird dog café they did a beautiful job remodeling it but the food was horrible I wanted salmon sandwich at lunchtime and they were out of salmon I ended up getting a turkey BLT the bread was stale and toasted and the sandwich it was disgusting the meat was cheap meat. My husband sandwich the croissant was stale and the chicken was like minced chicken in 1 mile turn right very very disappointed and one of the owners walked by us three times and just looked at us never acknowledged us just never spoke to us so to go back there again no Erin and Ben did a beautiful job on the place it is so cute and quaint too bad at the two guys I'm not that good at cooking or at least for us it was a bad experience read more

My wife and I ate at the Birddog Cafe August 7, 2021. Its pricey and the dish my wife ate was corkscrew veggie pasta and she said it was the most disgusting dish of food she had ever eaten in a restaurant. Rubbery, burnt on the edges and very dry. i talked to the waitress about the dish and she told me they get more complaints on that dish than any other. My wife had a glass of wine and it cost $16. My sandwich was $15 and just okay with a bag of chips. We ate there because of "Hometown". The one good thing is the employees were friendly. In the afternoon we ate bread pudding at Cafe La Fluer in downtown Laurel and it was wonderful. read more

Food was outstanding in taste.  I had a daily special, Chicken breast stuffed with corn bread dressing with roasted vegetables and mashed potatoes.  The Chicken was HUGE and I was only able to eat about 1/2 - and that's unheard of for me.  I'm not usually a fan of roasted vegies but these were amazing; they were cut in very small cubes and included root vegies, broccoli and asparagus with a really tasty seasoning.  The mashed potatoes were "real" with skins and chunks. The wife had the vegie pizza and it was also amazing with a carefully crafted blend of flavors. The location is cute and includes a patio as well as inside.  If you're not a fan of the "HomeTown" TV show on HGTV then the decor probably doesn't matter to you - but then if you're in town you're probably here because of HomeTown :-). The only problem was the service.  The staff was young and very uneven.  They were nice enough - but they were spending so much time socializing with each other that they were dropping details.  For example my wife ordered a Mojito and the bar forgot to make it.  When we reminded the waiter it came well after the meal arrived.  Our food was delivered with no silverware.  When we asked the waiter disappeared, came back 5 minutes later with just forks as our food was getting cold.  When we asked for knives that took another 5 minute trip.  And so the evening went.  People around us were having trouble getting their checks or getting someone to pick up and process their credit cards.  Meanwhile the entire wait staff was laughing and talking with each other at the bar. Basically, the "front of the house" manager needs to pay more attention to what's going on. But even with the uneven service, I'd eat there again just for the excellent food! read more
