Love the decor of this place with all the dog and bird portraits! The venue is pretty small with a kitchen that is separate from the seating place. Be ware that if there happens to be large parties in this place it becomes very loud that it's a bit hard to hear among yourselves. You can choose between 3 different prefixes: 3 courses, 2 courses, and chicken dinner with app or alternatively the chefs tasting. For 3 people we each got one of the prefixes to share and it was more than enough food. Highlights of the meal would be the burrata and pimento cheese for apps, bucatini for pasta, and florentine steak for entrees (although it's extra on top of pre-fix). The fried chicken was also a highlight, which was very tender. I felt like the hush puppies were not soft enough as well as the biscuits were hard. The rigatoni was also a bit salty. The staff is super friendly and there's a warm vibe to the restaurant. Overall, with the inconsistency, I'd give this place a 3.5 stars if I could.

We walked in for pasta happy hour. The restaurant is decorated with lots of fun paintings and the service was very friendly! We ordered 3 pastas for 3 people and although it did not look like a lot of food, it was filling. All of the pastas were good, but it is still pricy even though it's half off.

Prepare to be bamboozled. I reserved this place after I found it on inKind. Their entire menu is prefixed only. $75/pp which they do not disclose on inKind or their website or on resy. They claim their portions are large- but they're not really large especially given how much you are paying. They also trick you because if you cancel your reservation or try to leave they will charge you a hefty fee. Also the place is super cramped. You will hear all of the convo from the table next to you. They think they're a Michelin star restaurant, they are nowhere near one.

***3 1/2 stars*** There's a lot to like here, and I think under different circumstances this would have been a significantly better experience. I stopped by with the Millennial Chum for dinner this past Wednesday; we were looking for a spot on the western side of the island close to the NJ public transportation options (this is literally a block from the Christopher St Path, so if you play your cards/timing right, less than 10 minutes from the restaurant door to Hoboken Terminal.). Of course after eating pasta, the Millennial Chum decided to be dramatic and walk the carbs off all the way down to the WTC Path but that was a personal decision. Anyway. This area is as West Village as it gets, and that for sure extends to the proprietors here. An absolute delight - a mixture of Sgt. Pepper's and a circus ringmaster. This for sure was one of the big selling points for me - everyone we interacted with was beyond nice and very communicative. The decor in here is really something as well, with pooch portraits as far as the eye can see (with a smattering of birds as well). We had the honor of sitting under a picture of a canine wearing, I believe, an Elizabethan ruff, which is just begging for a pun. We got over here around a little before 6pm, but the place was empty or close to it initially (it filled it up a bit during a time in there). This was a quintessential gift versus curse situation - we showed up inadvertently for Bird Dog's Pasta Happy Hour, which on its face is a great deal, half off the listed/selected entrees. Initially, we were pretty pleased by the timing there; a significantly more affordable meal, and the everything bagel topped biscuits I'd been hankering for were still available on the abbreviated menu. We of course ordered those, and enjoyed them - they were warm, easy to break into halves, and the accompanying honey butter was great. Honestly, I didn't really taste the everything bagel aspect so I'm not sure what the point is beyond the optics of it, but it was still really good. The main dinner menu had a gnocchi Bolognese on it, which is one of my faves, but the Happy Hour menu's version had the gnocchi in a green, pesto-ish sauce, which I was perfectly fine with ordering as well. Honestly? Really good. The flavors are very distinct, if that makes sense. I have a chum who preemptively orders salt with everything (believing that the vast majority of food is bland and desperately in need of a pick-me-up) but she wouldn't need to do that here. Nothing was flavorless in the slightest. This ended up being a bit of an issue for the Millennial Chum, who ordered a garlicky bucatini dish that she was pretty overwhelmed by, and not in a good way. She gave me about half of it to bring home. And she was right - it's REALLY garlicky. I felt like it was oozing out of my pores. Here's the biggest issue for me, and it's definitely a debatable point. The Pasta Happy Hour is half-off, but you're also paying for what you get - the serving sizes we received were arguably less than half of what you'd typically get with a normal pasta entree, which I think should be disclosed. (Maybe it's a given to some people?) But I was pretty hungry and this was flat out not enough food. I don't even know if it was an option in hindsight, but I would have considered getting full price if I'd known you're getting a fraction of the food. Also, is it even a "deal" if you're not getting the equivalent portion of pasta that you'd be getting at other times? What are you actually saving in that equation? I imagine there are plenty of people who would vehemently disagree with me here and squeal about the money you're saving, but I'd be more than willing to spring for the extra $10 to $15 just to not be hungry on my way out. The food itself was a cut above for me, notwithstanding my Happy Hour gripes, so I'd actually want to come back when the portions are legit because from what I sampled, it's worth it. And the intangible service aspect cancels out a lot of the negatives for me.

Bird Dog is a tiny restaurant in the heart of the West Village that serves up a mix of Italian and Southern food. We came for the pasta happy hour, which is half off the original price. We ordered the pesto gnocchi, bolognese, and fried catfish. The portions are on a bit of the small size so take that into account when ordering. Overall the pasta was well made. The bolognese was our favorite and the catfish was perfectly cooked. I would definitely give this place another try to taste some of the other pastas and the fried chicken which is supposed to be one of their specialties.

Oh. My. GUT!!! Half-price happy hour pasta???!!! Yassssss!!! From best to less best (but still awesome), get the Spaghetti (colatura, clams, seabeans, garlic, breadcrumbs), the Mafaldine (red wine brisket rib ragu, parmigiana chive), and the Papparedelle (mushrooms, crème fraiche, parmigiana, lemon). But seriously, all were chewy, tasty and loaded with comforting flavor, and trying to rank them was like choosing between my favorite children. Just come here and gorge. Pro tip: If you can make it before 5:30pm on a weeknight, you're unlikely to wait for a table. After that, good luck.

    Tagliatelle, Bucatini

Felt like a small Italian nook, maybe 15 seats total in the whole restaurant. They even have a red rope outside so you feel like a VIP. The server was very entertaining reminiscent of Daniel Levy. The hush puppies were good, had a nice sweet taste. The bucatini and tagliatelle both had an egg that the server mixed tableside for us just like a carbonara. The tagliatelle was delicious and had a nice lemony taste and very creamy.

Been meaning to try this restaurant for awhile. Glad I made it! The restaurant is a small place in a nice quaint area of the West Village. Our Waiter Anthony was so nice and friendly. He helped my friend and I out with figuring out the menu as it was our first time at the restaurant. We missed the happy hour and opted for the prix fixe dinner - 3 courses for $55. Also for the bottle of wine where it's $40 for the month of August. We ordered the following dishes, all were very good and we were so full we had to take some home: - buratta - burnt ends - parpadelle - agnolotti - fried chicken - ribs Would love to come back here and try out their pasta happy hour next time!

First off, this place acts like they are some highly desirable restaurant. I got a reservation 30 minutes before on a Friday night. The reservation was for four people and clearly stated tasting menu was for parties of 7 or more (see photo) When I got to the restaurant I was immediately told by the waitress (before even saying hi) that it is tasting menu only and there is a $20 per person cancellation fee if we walk out. That tells me they are knowingly committing this scam and have been called out on it by customers before. We decided we did not want to do the tasting menu due to cost and started walking out when the manager physically blocked the door. He kept asking me to confirm that it was okay I was charged the cancellation fee I said no multiple times and that I'm going to leave in which he then THREATENED to call the POLICE. Obviously the patrons at the restaurant looked very concerned, like dude what are you doing? He rudely asked "can you read?" and said Resy states you need to do tasting menu when it clearly states otherwise. Buddy, can you type? because it obviously says 7 people or more. Anyway I walked out, knew the manager wasn't going to follow because he definitely eats too much fried chicken he would have had a heart attack chasing me.

Burrata e pomodorini was good as well and tasted so fresh. For entrees we shared two. The famous lasagna is as delicious as people say with all the yummy layers.
