You know that figure of speech that goes something to the effect of: "You could do worse than..."? Well in the world of Lancaster County Smorgs, if you come here that phrase does not apply because you legit cannot do any worse when you combine what you pay with what you get specifically at lunch. For the $13.50 per adult and kids pay lets call it a buck a year, you get in terms of substantive offerings...nothing. The backbone of the Thursday lunch menu would be dry meatloaf, greasy fried chicken, baked fish that was constantly out and sketchy meat quality ham balls (yes, ham balls). Past that it's just a small array of sides that would look more appropriate in warmers at Boston Market versus at a smorg except of course you're paying double BM prices for the privilege of eating things that you probably would have passed up there. Well I guess I could mention the three soups they had out because you know how big of a hit hot soup is when it's 90+ degrees outside or maybe the watermelon that was never refilled after it ran out or the super runny soft serve. The service from the drink refiller/plate clearer was perfectly fine and she did her best but again, that's not the problem here. Look Brothers and Sisters, I've come to testify that within the world of Lancaster County smorgs I've probably tried them all from Dienner's to Yoder's to Miller's to Hershey Farm to The Shade plus others and honestly in terms of value for the money Bird in Hand comes in dead last. When I say dead last I don't mean dead last like it was close, I mean dead last with a bullet going all the way down light years ahead of the next closest bottom feeder. I really tried to think of something that I can say that I enjoyed here but honestly I blacked out after a few minutes. Could that have been a reaction from all of the blandness that is served up here or maybe it was me fainting when I remembered how much I paid versus the scant quantity that was actually eaten? Never. Again.

This was a recommendation of an older gentleman over at the Lancaster Visitor Center, so we trucked on over to give traditional "Amish food" a try. Not bad, sorta a twist of German food and American food with Amish touches. It was $13 for lunch, which I feel was fair for the experience, but will likely try another place when I visit again, as it was nothing to really write home about. There is a salad bar, soups, cheese and bread station, as well as all the hot dishes and a desert station. I felt I tried a little of everything and made good use of my $13. Not a bad experience if you are looking to go for the buffet route and want a quickie sitdown to try all things local in one place. As for the quality of the food? Average, but I was already expecting that when I found out it was a buffet. Good "starter course" to the food around here, but I will look for somewhere more authentic next time.

One of my favorite buffets in Lancaster PA. Tuesday is my favorite day to go. That's when they have the best selection at the buffet in my opinion. The baked corn & ham balls are addicting. Make sure to try both the coconut cream pie & banana cream pie, too.

Service is great here, but the food is meh, compared to other smorgasbords in this area, the buffet here is really greasy. If you have other choice for Pennsylvania Dutch food (plenty in this area), don't come here.

We stopped by to have the breakfast smorgasbord with the best hot chocolate in town!

We had a great day in Lancaster. Half-Stitched was a great show. The staff was awesome, and we enjoyed the luncheon buffet.

Longer version: Kyle performed at my family reunion, for a crowd of about 15. First thing that I noticed: he knew every single person's name by heart within the first 10 minutes of arriving. Just while he was talking to people, sharing a few jokes, setting up for the show. Even before he had performed a single trick, he had charmed every member of my family, even the grumpy ones and even the young'ns, some of whom are usually shy. He was funny, considerate, intelligent, articulate, gracious, patient, and I know he's got a houseful of his own kids and he's worked with young people, and he was just as fantastic with generation A as he was with the Gen Xers and the Boomers!! My family ranged in age from 11 to 78. And Kyle had something to delight every single person there. During the act itself, he invited us to sit up close, and we could easily see every moment, every movement, every manipulation, and he befuddled and befuzzled every single one of us. So in this, Kyle actually defied Abraham Lincoln: he fooled all of my family, all of the time. And Kyle invited audience participation in several of the tricks. And every single trick was an absolute mind breaker. Some of my family members were sitting 2 feet away, and every single person was bowled over by the magic Kyle performed with such craftsmanship and confidence. Plus the guy is funny! A genuinely talented magician, and a fiendishly quick wit. His friendly banter and incisive patter and audience engagement delighted everyone there. If you are looking for the Mozart of Magic, a Prestidigitator par Excellence, an Alchemist of Amazement, a Conjuror of Consequence, the Napoleon of Necromancy, the Sorcerer Supreme, a Thaumaturge of Thinkery, a Wild and Witty Warlock of WOW, the Leonardo of Legerdemain, the Diva of Divination, and... If ever a wonderful wizard there was? Well it was Kyle Purnell. And if you need a lightbulb changed? Kyle is tall. Really tall. Sasquatch tall. NBA D-League practice squad tall.

Thanks to an early holiday gift, I attended my first performance, the 2025 Christmas Show Deck the Halls. I didn't make any food purchases, but I could smell the inviting aroma of popcorn when we entered the theatre. We enjoyed the lively, excellent singing and performances, dazzling costumes, set designs, and a top-notch band. Deck the Halls is a fantastic way to celebrate Christmas with nostalgic songs and remember Jesus' birth. I must note that 1600 people exiting the theatre parking lot is the only honest, non-five-star worthy concern. AMT Memberships are available, and there is already a performance schedule of shows for 2026; tickets are not sold through 3rd-party resellers.

It is illegal to remove medical assistance devices and she was left with no way to even get to her walker. We brought a small foldable one and she was refused to place it at her seat. This was after we were told to make our way through a very crowded gift shop to the other side of the venue, even though our seats were in the middle. This is one of the least accommodating venues I have been to for people with mobility issues. From the parking spots to removing a medical device, it is wholly unacceptable. The theatre itself is a very nice, modern establishment and the performances I have attended are wonderful productions. The ticket prices are a bit high but better seats always are. If you have no mobility issues you will likely be thrilled with this venue.

I have two 5 year olds and they adored it. We got a seat at the very front and loved being so close to the action. The entire staff was so kind to our family. We came on father's day and our server shared their happiness to have us there on our special day. Before the show, they did a music trivia. My kids nearly fell off their chairs when I got one of the questions correct. Our prize? A soda (for me) and a giant bag of popcorn (that I didn't get one bite of!). The performers were energetic, singing the greatest hits from the 50s, 60s, 70s and 80s. There were bubbles, a little magic, aerials and so many great moments.
