You're traveling and on a roadside pull-off there's a diner. Sort of. It has a diner aura to it except the menu is limited, it's small inside but has a large seating area outside. The food was good. Nice sized portions, staff were friendly, prices weren't crazy. And hold on to your hats, they have a small petting zoo with your typical barnyard stars. Rabbits, donkey, pigs, sheep, goat, turkeys and a rhea (pronounced Rh-: Sounds like the letter "R" -ea: Sounds like the "ee" in "see" or "tree" -ah: Followed by a soft, short "uh" sound) looks like an emu. Also they have fire pits. And for the pièce de résistance, an ice cream shop. Step right up. They have hard serve, soft-serve, floats, shakes, sundaes. But wait there's more! A small playground area too. So if you don't think this is the one of the most funnest, double throw-down food stops you've ever been, you can kiss their ass (ass are donkeys). read more

Come for the pretzels, stay for the atmosphere. The pretzels are always fresh and buttery. They are a pretty good size. The ice cream looked tasty, but I haven't tried it yet. The animals are adorable and a nice hands on experience. From cows to goats to pigs to rabbits. There are special times of the year they have a Llama. There are hand washing stations to clean your hands after. Suggestion...eat first, then visit the animals. Parking can be difficult on weekends or holidays. Weekdays are usually okay. read more

We stopped at The Pretzel Hut on one of their first weekends open for the season, and even with the cold, it was already busy. There was a line when we got there, and it kept filling up while we waited but they were moving customers quickly and efficiently. I got the "OH! MY! Butters Cone" (vanilla soft serve dipped in browned butter and rolled in crushed pretzels), and yeah... it lives up to the name. Sweet, salty, a little ridiculous in a good way. We also tried one of their "whirls" (their version of a Blizzard) with Oreo and peanut butter cups, plus a classic twist. Everything was solid. What makes this place fun is the whole setup animals (goats, bunnies, even a Highland cow), a small play area, and a gravel path to walk while you wait. They even still had igloos up from winter. It gets crowded fast, but that's kind of expected for a place like this. Grabbed a quick snack on my drive through Lebanon. Cute pull off location, conveniently on 501, nestled around woods. Ample parking and seating outside. I did not sit outside during 96 degree weather but families were using the picnic tables and visiting the petting zoo. They have a variety of different hand held foods for a quick bite and offer ice cream. I got the original pretzel with beer cheese dipping sauce. Freshly made, good flavor, super nice staff. I will definitely try this place again and enjoy lunch and ice cream. Can't wait to be back. read more

Magical. That's the only word for it. I went to The Pretzel Hut on the last Friday night before Christmas at 6:30pm, and as soon as I walked up and saw the igloos, I yelled: "OMG... I want to LIVE HERE!" We lucked out with parking and only had a short wait after ordering. Once inside the igloo, I was blown away -- warmer than I expected on a 28° night, cozy, beautifully lit, and just... magical. And yes, it was lightly snowing, which somehow made it even more enchanting. The property is beautifully decorated with Christmas lights, and there are cute little trains running on tracks outside the igloos. We even stopped to say hi to the animals before leaving -- including Ozzy the camel braving the freezing weather like a champ. We went all out on the food: a Dutch Pretzel Melt (house-made pretzel roll, grilled sweet bologna, sautéed onions, cheese, mustard & horseradish sauce) for $8.99, a huge order of Garlic Parm Sprouts tossed in garlic parmesan seasoning for $4.99, a Fountain Drink for $2.49, a Pretzel Dog for $5.99, Beer Cheese pretzel dip for $0.79, a Signature Soft Pretzel for $3.99, and a Water Bottle for $1.25 total including tip ended up being $35.91 which I found super reasonable for a festive Friday Date Night dinner for two. For dessert, we enjoyed the Peanut Butter Max Ice Cream Sundae -- vanilla soft serve with Reese's pieces and peanut butter cups -- $6.89. Everything was fantastic. The Dutch Pretzel Melt was chef's kiss -- perfect flavor combo. The brussels sprouts were huge, perfectly seasoned, and still hot when I got them to my igloo (not skimped on the garlic & parm -- perfection!). The pretzel dog and soft pretzel were solid, and the beer cheese was thick, flavorful, and perfectly dippable. And eating a peanut butter max sundae in a heated igloo while it was snowing outside? Absolutely wild and absolutely amazing. This place is super cool, totally unique, and I'm officially putting it on my new annual traditions list. I will absolutely be back next year. First time eating here. I had the fish tacos and hubby had the 1/2 coconut shrimp. We both enjoyed our meal and then we had dessert....of course. I had a small cone and he a milk shake. Best milkshake around and my ice cream was very silky smooth and had good flavor. We have visited the farm with the animals and always enjoy it. I am only stressing a scary fact that drivers race way over the speed limit past this place and it is very scary to me. We go out of our way to visit here at least once a season. The food has all been excellent as well as the ice cream. The pretzels are huge & delicious beyond belief. We tried their signature pretzel and everyone that tried a bite was impressed. It was soft & buttery and it tasted fresh and not full of chemicals like at Auntie Anne's. This visit, I got the Hut Burger and really enjoyed it. The burger patties were nicely smashed with lacey edges but still juicy. The toppings were fresh and the sauce was yummy. My little guy got a kid's chicken tender meal and it was excellent. Three large, breaded chicken tenders, choice of side and a drink in a cute animal paper bag. The petting zoo has bunnies & goats and is free. You can buy feed for a little over $3/bag. I really appreciated the hand washing station outside the zoo. They recently added a large playset with 3 or 4 slides. My kids loved it and it gave me a little break! I saved the ice cream for after the playground so I could lure them away more easily. They have some great combinations for sundaes. I got the peanut butter max and switched the vanilla soft serve for the pb/choc twist soft serve--perfection! We enjoyed our food here, but I was very concerned about the petting zoo. There was a pig lying in the walkway that was shaking, barely responsive, and being pushed and rolled onto by children with no staff monitoring. When I raised the concern, staff were dismissive and did not appear to take the animal's welfare or the children's safety seriously. There was also a peacock roaming outside in freezing temperatures and a bunny enclosure that was overcrowded until I spoke up -- then the rules suddenly changed, showing inconsistent safety practices. For businesses that rely on live animals and invite young children to interact with them, proper supervision and animal care should be a top priority. This is a great destination that boasts not only delicious food, scrumptious ice cream, but also plenty of family friendly diversions. There's outdoor fire pits to sit and chat a while, and plenty of outdoor seating options, warmed by outdoor space heaters if there's a chill in the air. The children will love the ample play space with climbers and sliding boards. There's a small petting zoo area at the top of the hill. (The hike uphill is a bit steep and may be difficult for those with mobility issues, especially since it is stones and not paved.) Ice cream is ordered outside and comes in a wide variety of sizes and flavors. The cones we ordered each came with a little edible pretzel topper. What an unexpected and cute surprise treat. It certainly took it up a notch with a little salty and crunchy contrast to the sweet soft ice cream. The indoor seating is varied, with how busy it gets (a line out the door and into the parking lot). The building is rectangular shaped and has a one way access- in one door and out the other side of the building. The building layout may make some people uncomfortable if they are sensitive to crowded areas or smaller spaces. Despite how busy it was, it was well kept and very clean. The food was average priced for large and very delicious portions! (Our food bill was $77 for 4 adults, ice cream not included.) Everyone in our group thoroughly enjoyed their food, and no one walked away the slightest bit hungry. Three of us opted for burgers and fries which were delicious, and one had a chicken and cheese quesadilla. We also ordered two soft pretzels to take home. The pretzels were massive and can be described as buttery goodness. (Similar to an Auntie Ann's pretzel vs a Philly Pretzel.) There are bathrooms both inside and outside porta-potties outside. There is a handwashing station next to the porta-potties. The indoor bathroom was clean and stocked. The parking area is small and overflow parking is available across the street. (Please use caution in crossing and/or pulling out into traffic due to the road's speed limit and curves.) Please be aware that the parking area, play areas, pathways and petting zoo areas are all stone and gravel. It will be extremely difficult for strollers, wheelchairs, and those who have difficulty walking on uneven surfaces to navigate. I stress that the hill up to the animals is very steep. Sturdy shoes are advised. Final thought- this is a great place that was certainly worth the drive. The delicious food is worth the price, knowing that it helps to support the animals and facility upkeep. I'd certainly recommend this and do look forward to a future visit. The Pretzel Hut has been around for many years, but more recently has changed things up and I believe that is due to new ownership. Bringing a more modern vibe to the classic establishment. Food is very good, burgers, cheesesteaks, chicken tenders and fries take up the menu. The burgers are smash burgers and above average. Fries are not bad for frozen fries. Of course we had to try the pretzels and they were pretty good, Auntie Anne's style buttery pretzel can't really go wrong. What differentiates this from other establishments is its very convenient location on 501. PLUS the petting zoo of goats and bunnies ALONG with the very nice swing-set for young ones. A great atmosphere with good ice cream and quick service allowed us to enjoy our time and give out young one something to do as we ate. We will be back at some point, mostly in the summer. read more

Since discovering the Pretzel Hut a few years ago I would often make the long drive from my home in Landisville. It was a favorite of mine and I loved that my grandkids could interact with the animals. They have many happy memories of those interactions. Often the dining room would be packed, but the food quality and portion were always consistent and a good value for your money. However my last several stops here over the past year I've experienced a decline in food quality and have seen the crowd decrease. Tried and true dishes that I once loved; crab cakes and chicken croquettes, now taste different. There's inconsistencies in sides and charges. One time kids chicken fingers will come with a dipping sauce, the next they'll be a charge for it. During my most recent experience I was even charged for the once complimentary brown sugar for my sweet potato side! The animals are still there but the area overall seems messier than in the past. They used to be very attentive to cleaning up the animal poop, now you need to watch where you step. Often the hand sanitizer stations are empty. I'm not sure if this is true but I feel like the business changed hands and focus. Since visiting the animals is such a memorable experience they enjoy we won't stop patronizing. However I won't be making the long trek just to stop here specifically, instead opting to visit only when in the area. read more

My wife and I had been talking about coming here for a few months now. It never happened previously because it is a bit out of the way for us. I can't really see us returning, though. First, I ordered the cheeseburger sub. I don't like all kinds of toppings on my subs (and if I remember correctly, theirs came with lettuce, tomato, and maybe also pickles, if I'm remembering correctly), so I ordered it with just the mayo, cheese and burger. What did my $6.39 get me? A humongous helping of mayo, the cheese was probably hiding in there somewhere but I never did find it, and an absolutely tiny hamburger, about the size of a small McDonald's hamburger, cut in half (one half on each half of the sub). If I served something that looked like that to one of my customers, I'd be absolutely embarrassed. It did not taste good at all, and the only reason I ate it was because the restaurant already had my money. I also ordered a large salted pretzel. This is the Pretzel Hut, after all. The cashier had to ask someone if they even had any large pretzels. Really? For $2.10 I got a pretzel that was obviously kept in a warming station, with salt liberally shaken on top once it was taken out of the warmer. They promote SuperPretzel, which I saw on the way out of the restaurant, so I assume this is what that was. It sure tasted like it. I can get a box of 6 of them at Walmart for under $3 and make them myself at home if that was what I really wanted. A real pretzel hut should be making them from scratch, as homemade pretzels are one thing this area is known for. My wife ended up getting two corn dogs. She loved those. She let me take a bite of one and yes, it was pretty good. We also ordered the mac and cheese bites, which were good, and the curly fries, which were excellent. We ordered large sodas because I noticed the sign saying that they charge for refills (absolutely ridiculous, and a good way for the restaurant to make some quick easy money since the actual soda cost to them is around a penny an ounce and they charged over a dollar to refill my 32 ounce cup, which still had plenty of ice in it, on top of the $2 and change the original cup cost). In spite of what it might seem like, if you've read this far, I really only have just one really major pet peeve with this place. They had a sign on the door stating it was a $5 minimum for credit cards or else you would be charged an extra 20 cents on your card. What they don't tell you is that they hit you with a 5% surcharge for using your credit card at all, no matter what the price is. Since credit card companies charge the businesses generally between 1.5 and 3%, you know this restaurant has to be making some good money over-charging their customers with this service fee, particularly without warning people in advance that they do it. Regardless of how crappy I felt my food was, how overpriced it was, and the total ripoff of charging to refill a soda, I would not return to this restaurant just because of the extra credit card surcharge. We didn't try the ice cream, and I had originally been considering returning sometime just to do that, but I don't need to, there are plenty of better places in town that are more local to me. read more

I've driven by many times and the parking lot is always full, so I assumed the food/ice cream would be good. Today was the first and last time I will be visiting. I am concerned with the hygiene practices of the staff. The lady that took my order handled money then went to make my ice cream cone without washing her hands. She was playing with her mask, not wearing it properly, and actually pulled it down and yelled to someone in the back while maying my cone, which went in the trash as soon as I left the building. I want to support small businesses especially during the pandemic, but this establishment needs to do better. read more

I witnessed the most ignorant, biased racist-charged incident take place in their zoo against a mom and a child, so the mom and her child were petting the animals and enjoying their time like everyone else, the child was handling baby bunnies then a lady (that I saw earlier giving them dirty looks and rolling her eyes at them) comes from behind them started throwing rude comments about how tiny the bunnies are and that they shouldn't be touching them, even though many people did before them, the woman looked like she doesn't like the way they look or the non-English language they were speaking, she kept yapping non-stop so the mother took the bunny from the child's hands put it back in place asking that woman in a nice way to stop it and they moved to the next thing, now I saw that lady talking with everyone and swearing up and down she saw the mother and her child abusing the animals and she was going to call the management, of course other old ladies there got worked up over that, saw the child playing with another animals and they approached the mother in a hostile way, the mother was upset and felt targeted so she said that they did nothing wrong and there was no sign saying not to touch the baby animals and her child like all children there loves to hold the baby animals like all kids there (I saw that and the owners allowed it all the time) the lady that started all that came back with a couple of women who work at the pretzel hut who to my surprise did not ask questions but came yelling at the mother and child who were sitting on a bench holding a baby bunny, what made me believe it's an act of racism and targeting them is that when the server came instead of asking what happened or trying to gently correct the situation started yelling at the mother to give her the bunny and when she did the server yelled "you shoved the bunny at me!" I was next to the bench where the mom and the child were sitting and saw with my own eyes the mother put the bunny in the angry employee hands normally, there was no shoving, and because of all the screaming match that was going on, the mom told everyone that God knows she did no harm to the animals and that she doesn't understand why are those people ganging up on her like that then asked them to go check the cameras before believing that woman (who was still yelling in the back that now they should call the cops) the server claimed there was no cams, then said the mom and child have to leave and never come back (tho they were on their way out! just to be extra mean to make it sound like they were kicked out) that employee was still standing there making it look like a stupid high school fight saying "come on move it I don't see you going.. bla bla bla" very childish! she had no problem making up a lie in front of everyone (shoving the bunny) and no one said anything? Then the villagers were about to stone the mom and child away, lol oh ya according to the owner thats normal not racism! On a different note, If this was a real professional business like the ones in NYC or Chicago or even Philly then those employees would've be fired or even the entire business closed down... witnessing that made me sad because I as a mother was mom-shamed by ignorant people who find nothing better to do with their times than harassing families with children, but to add racism and ignorance to the mix in this time and age instead of love and understanding is just stupid! it was the first time I saw this amount of ganging up on one person, maybe it's a village mentality too? Who knows, but still a business is a business and they should keep their racism and bias to themselves and HAVE TO keep dignity and professionalism, the owners were encouraging kids to play with animals and even baby animals and when a child who looks different does it they target him and his mother, shame on them! this is inhumane and very ignorant. Although we had to sit inside due to rain, and it was a little cramped, I can't complaint about my meal here. It is a nice little place to meet up with a friend or two and have some grub. I was very impressed with the variety here. Of course, it's not gourmet dining, but all of the appetizers we had were really good and overall inexpensive. This place does a lot of business but keeps their lines moving and customers happy. I said 'are you sure' & she said 'a lot of food can fit in a small bag.' So I get out to my car, & sure enough not all the food was in the bag. I go back in & tell her what's missing & the girl behind her tells her that some guy put it in. I said 'I don't know what to tell you, it's not in the bag. Do you want me to bring the bag back in?' She has me bring the bag back in. Seriously? As if the kid couldn't have put my order in another bag! So I go out to my car & get the bag, bring it in & they take it to the back & go through it. The girl comes back out & tells me she'll bring out the rest of my order when it's ready. Ok. She brings it out. It's missing the sauce. So now I have to go back in. Again. No one apologized. No one cared. If I hadn't checked, I would've gotten home with my order being short which I can accept as an accident, but not when I specifically asked if the whole order was there & I live 45 minutes away.
