OK, so we have tried to come in here before and had such a bad experience with the waitress that we got up and left before ordering. We were running late to see a show tonight and our normal MO is to go to Katsuya eat at the bar and have a drink. It's is now shut down! So we had to pivot quick. We came into birdcage and it was empty, but there was something for each of us on the menu so we thought we would give it a whirl. Suffice to say I am so glad that we did. First off our server was Jacob and he's 10 of 10. Especially if you're asking him to make you a cocktail. The regular Bartender was out sick so he was taking over Bahr duties, but he is exceedingly capable. We had gimlets with a little St. Germain and they were picture Perfect. Delicious. I got the chicken BLT with no spread and my friend got the salmon dinner. Also got a side of ranch. It's homemade! And it's amazing. Don't you love a place with good ranch dressing? My chicken was just a regular grilled breast. Nothing special with some bacon and avocado. There was an heirloom tomato, but I didn't eat it because it was touching the chicken and it made it warm. And a piece of butter lettuce, which they also did not eat. I actually ordered the sandwich because it said homemade sourdough. I'm not sure it looks like sandwich bread to me. But overall, the taste was good and I would certainly eat it again. I do think it's a little disappointing that fries don't come with your sandwich. You have to add them on for five dollars. But it's worth the five dollars when you try these french fries. They are everything that In-N-Out wants their french fries to be. Hand cut with skin on. Thin and crispy. They were phenomenal. My friend got the salmon and she said it was delicious. I did not try it, but it looks nicely plated. She also got butternut squash with it and that thing was massive. Literally filled up the entire plate. Both are worthy of eating again. The menu is a little abbreviated, but there were a couple other things to try and now I can't wait till our next show! read more

Wanted an easy, quick bite very close to the Pantages before a show. Birdcage is literally on the same block as the theatre in an area that despite the presence of tourist from around the world, is also filled with many very sketchy people. Walk another half block away and you'll see drugged out people passed out along the street, empty drug packages strewn about, the stench of urine in the air and a strip club. Birdcage is the most recent incarnation of restaurants in this location and by the same owner. Don't be confused by the Sopranos sign in the window. We got there early before the usual pre show crowd and were seated immediately by the friendly manager. Our waiter Justin was also very nice and provided great info about the menu, history of the restaurant along with his recommendations. We went with his recommendation of the roasted butternut squash & I went with the "safe choice" of the 33 Burger plus Fries. The burger and fries were generic and nothing spectacular. I'm not really a fan of Butternut squash except when it's soup but this preparation was DELICIOUS! The squash is coated with a miso dressing before roasting that added an interesting and special flavor. The faro and arugula had a lite refreshing dressing. The place fills up closer to showtime and is only open when a show is playing at the theatre so plan accordingly. read more

I keep forgetting to take pictures of my food. This restaurant is good due to its proximity to the theatre. Idk if they do this for all shows that are touring at the Pantages but I was seeing MJ the musical and the restaurant played Michael Jackson the whole time which was fun. This spot caters primarily to theater goers. Menu is simply and pieces are pretty good, but where they get you is the automatic 5% fee that is not gratuity. I think that was a big reason why I had avoiding coming here. I got the chicken blt, fries were extra. My sandwich was fine, standard run of the mill. I appreciate avocado was already included in it. All the years going to Pantages we have been eyeing this little spot. So when we found ourselves in the need for a small meal before another event, we decided to check it out. Love the name! The dining room is small but quaint. Service was decent. This is not a place I would take the whole family, but it had its highlights. We were keen on trying the Humus. It was deliciousbut other than the peppers, it was nothing out of the ordinary. The pita like bread was quite delicious. However, there is way more humus then items to dip. We were told that they could give us more bread with charge. We passed since we wanted to eat our meals. I ordered the steak sandwich and my husband ordered the cheeseburger. We shared. My brother and I came here before a play at the Pantages, I was really curious to see what the new restaurant was that took the famous corner of Hollywood and Vine. Birdcage, while might be a call to the movie/musical of the same name, is in reference to their primarily chicken menu; a great thing to me who doesn't really eat red meat! Inside is stylish but still undergoing renovations, we got a tall table near the kitchen but we're able to still hear each other without screaming or leaning really close together so points there! It's close to the theatre, the food is great, the portions are generous, the prices are more than fair, especially for downtown Hollywood, and our server, Julie, made the entire experience a lot more fun! A great restaurant close to the theater. We stopped him for lunch before a Sunday matinee. We had the cutest, nicest, and most helpful waitress, Julie. It made the lunch experience even better. It appears that they're fixing the restaurant so there will be an upstairs also. I had the gem Caesar salad with anchovies and I added avocado and chicken. The amount of food they give you is incredible. My girlfriend had the burger and it was juicy and yummy. I would recommend this to anybody going to the theater because I believe that's the only time they're open. My girlfriend's birthday and we had lemon tarts for dessert which was the best I've ever eaten and I'm over 70 years old. read more

They are located on the historic corner of Hollywood & Vine. This is one of the closest restaurants to the Pantages Theater. We had passed by many times in the past year when going to shows at the Pantages Theater. I remember seeing huge birdcages around the tables however they are no longer there. It has a nice open space. Very cool staircase but it's blocked off at the top for renovations. There's a huge bar and bar seating. They have an unspecified added fee of 5% , which even the server couldn't explain what it was for. But, it definitely was NOT for a tip. We both ordered the 33 Taps burger for $16 each. There were no pickles on them (according to menu, it's supposed to have it) but lots of melty cheese, that looked like it was cooled off a bit and not hot gooey. The caramelized onions were nice. There's an extra $4 charge for bacon and $4 for fries, which was not very crispy or hot. Fries are not usually a separate charge. But, this burger ends up being $24 PLUS that added 5% change. Taste wise, it was okay. Temperature wise, it was warm, not hot. That's a lot for an okay burger and okay fries. read more

Dinner before seeing Hamilton at the Pantages. Nice welcome, seated right away no wait. Our server was Micah. He was very attentive and met all our requests with a smile. We decided to try The Birdcage as we were headed for the Pantages and had a fantastic time and meal. The signage says "Sopranos" outside, but it is indeed the Birdcage. Kind of had a Miami vibe with salmon walls and bamboo accents. Our server was FANTASTIC! She was friendly, attentive and had a great personality. The food was great. I had one of the best hamburgers I've ever eaten and the caesar salad had just enough anchovies to engage without overwhelming. My martini was also delicious. Slow service - a "please wait to be seated" sign but no one watching the front. Not a long wait to get seated but an obvious one. - once we were seated felt like eternity before the waitress took our order. My mother kept thinking about leaving. - two drinks ordered a beer (pictured below) and a cranberry and soda. Took at least 10+ minutes for the cran soda and they forgot my beer, which the waitress didn't even know what it was by the way. When they finally brought my beer it was poured poorly and with a large amount of head. - waitress was clumsy. Dropped and broke a plate, then 5 minutes later dropped a, thankfully empty, tray. - largely empty restaurant. Not a good sign when there is a show at the Pantages just a few feet down the road. We weren't sure this restaurant was open since it still has the name of the old restaurant on the building (Soprano) and just a handmade sign on the door but don't let that scare you away. First time here before seeing a performance at the Pantages. Menu is limited. Music was too loud for my friend and I at the bottom floor. We elected to sit on the floor above where the music was not as loud, but had to get permission first. My friend and I ordered the chicken sandwich $19. I had to get up and ask for service. Was told they were short-staffed. We each ordered the chicken sandwich which was delicious! When the bill came, we were surprised that the fries were an extra $4 each. We didn't recall asking for fries. When we asked the server he said he had asked if we wanted fries, we said yes, and pointed to the charge below the menu. We didn't argue and paid the bill. This bar is right next door to the pantages theater and it seems they theme a lot of the drinks based on what's playing next door. Parking of course is off site so just assume that automatically. It's a great little spot that's honestly not too overpriced considering the location. I came on a rather slow Tuesday night for a showing next door. It was nice and the ambiance is very cute. It's very palm beach meets Miami vibes. The staff is so kind and friendly. I'm not a big drinker so they do of course have regular soda or something non alcoholic. It's a great little stop over if you're going next door or even just in the area looking for a pit stop. The bathrooms are a must stop as it's cute and perfect for a quick selfie. It's casual for sure and no dress code so you can come in your jeans or your dress if you plan to dress up for your night out. Would come back if I am in the area. I did not get food but the prices were not too wild considering the area. It's not a full menu so you're not going to find a bunch of selection but great accompaniments to a drink. read more

I go to the Pantages all the time, but I just assume the same places are there. I actually was just wandering around before a show, and just meandered into this place. I was expecting to see that Bennigan's style tavern I usually see. Instead was this new sleek restaurant I've never tried before. The bar seemed to be where all the action is, plus I was by myself. I ordered the steak frites with a 6oz Tempranillo to accompany. Outstanding!! The bartenders were making the most amazing cocktails and my eyes would grow just watching them. Then they'd pour me a teeny sample!! Great marketing. I did want to order it, but had to get to the theater. The food and drink here is absolute perfection. The takeaway: Enthusiastic waitstaff. Well lit spacious setting. Mediocre food. Came here for a pre-Pantages dinner with my theatre companion and should have taken it as a sign that tables were available for immediate occupancy. The menu ranged from artisanally prepared chicken wings to salads to sandwiches to more traditional entrees. Rated 1-5 (5 being best) We had: the lemon pepper wings (3) Buffalo cauliflower (3) Birdcage bowl (4) The lemon pepper wings were awkward to eat due to their size. Not the small nubs one would normally get at a bar, these were the full wing, prepared with (get ready for this shocking revelation) lemon and pepper. The accompanying blue cheese sauce was uninspired. The Buffalo cauliflower was too greasy, though the seasoning was tasty. The Birdcage bowl (with salmon) was a run of the mill entrant in this competition. I will say it was well priced for the area. It's a good convenient pre-show location and I will give them a second chance when I'm back at the Pantages again. I hope the chef reads this and ups their game. read more

Reginald behind the bar is the reason for this 5 star write up. Last Saturday I was enjoying a day out on Hollywood blvd. Walked for a few miles in each direction on it. As an L.A. native, I don't usually go to touristy areas. But, on this day I did. I happened to peak my head in to see this Birdcage place has a big bar to eat at. Not knowing what to expect, but feet needing a rest and me needing a glass of wine, I went in. The food is great! Bartender Reginald nice to chat with a bit. Though very busy, he continually made the rounds checking in with various people, making sure drink and food orders were ok etc., creating a nice time for all. I did kind of laugh and tease Reginald about the wine glasses as it was the first time I've seen restaurant/bar wine glasses with pour level lines on them!
