CRISPY SKINNED RAINBOW TROUT, CINNAMON STICKY BUN, CHICKEN CHOPPED SALAD, BLACK SESAME MATCHA LATTE
    Kathy X.

Superba is the perfect spot if you want a quick balanced meal. They have tons of outdoor and indoor seating. The chopped chicken salad was actually so good and filling, I loved the vinaigrette, it was bright and refreshing. And the rainbow trout was cooked well. The cinnamon sticky bun was pretty good, but it was a little overdone so the bottom was quite hard. The black sesame matcha was okay as well, I didn't really taste the matcha or the black sesame.

Superba Food + Bread has 5 locations around LA but this Hollywood is like a hidden garden gem. The patio is so darn cute and even used for movies & shows sometimes - a friend of mine filmed this week there! It's truly a beautiful space and feels so relaxing when dining there. I had dinner with a friend here and we loved everything we had. Service was the perfect level - kind but not over~the~top, checking in just the right amount, making sure we were well taken care of. Clean bathrooms, too, haha! Now the drinks and eats! I absolutely loved my Pecan Cold Brew (6.50) and was surprised to see such an option at dinner! It was perfect. My friend had the beautiful Ginger Thyme Lemonade ($6.50) which was also just delicious. I highly recommend everyone try their 'Selection of freshly baked breads with all 4 spreads' for $29 if it's your first visit in. It's a filling starter of a few of their breads (the pre-buttered & chives topped charred levain was exquisite as is - no notes!) and a few of their toppings. My personal favorite of the toppings was the fresh cheese with honey & salsa macha - our server said it was their favorite, too - but there wasn't a bad topping in the lot. Butter + Salt was simple but lovely. The Charred Eggplant spread was sweet in a good way with walnuts and pomegranate molasses. The smoked trout was nice to have a meaty option with smoked onions mixed in, topped with roe. We had the Bluefin Tuna Carpaccio ($27) starter which was light but beautiful with meyer lemon, chives, sea salt, and sourdough crisps. Everyone recommended me the Fried Brussels Sprouts ($15) before I went and y'all were right! They come lightly fried with red flame grapes, walnuts, and pecorino cheese all mixed on the plate Fell in love with Superba Food + Bread and can't wait to go back. I hear their brunch is fabulous, too!

This place was so cute! Loved the grand entrance that takes you into the patio dining. You'll have to walk around to get to the host, where you'll end up at the indoor dining area. It was such a nice day when we went so we opted to wait 20 mins for patio seating. I wasn't sure what was the best items here but I opted for the lox and schmear and it was just what I needed. Great food, great vibes. I would definitely see myself bringing friends here.

So lovely inside for dinner or outside for lunch or just a drink. While I mostly come for the ambiance, you have to have the hen of woods mushrooms for an appetizer! Just WOW

Came in for lunch with a group of 6 on a Wednesday during DineLA. Since we made a reservation ahead of time, our table ready to go. We sat outside in the beautiful patio with plenty of share from the trees. Biggest challenge sitting outside during a February heat wave was the falling leaves and pollen on plates and in drinks. To start, I had the Fried Brussel Sprouts were yummy - the grapes added a nice sweetness and the pecorino gave the right hit of saltiness. My main was the Umami Salmon Bowl, which was a 9 out of 10, my salmon was done a bit too much on one side of the fish, but the glaze in it was delicious. The grilled broccoli added some smokiness, the pickled daikon added a crunch, and the kimchi added a spicy freshness. For dessert, I ordered the Butter Pecan Ice Cream with an amazing praline crunch. Sweet, creamy, nutty, crunch - a great way to end the meal. I ordered an espresso to balance all the sweetness.

Came here on a Friday evening with a big group. We were able to grab reservations the day before which I was shocked, due to how cute the restaurant was! (However, it was raining quite hard that day.) Everything here was amazing! We did a family style kind of dining and everything was delicious! Also loved that they timed the appetizers first and asked us when we wanted the main dishes to come out. They had a nice variety of food and were very accommodating to any food allergies/restrictions. Our server was also outstanding! According to the receipt, I believe her name was Megan.. Hands down, best service I've experienced for a big group of people! She was super kind and friendly and everything went so smoothly. Thank you Megan! For dinner, the ambiance gives cute, mood lighting vibes with lots of candles! I only have great things to say about this place. Just a fair warning, parking isn't the best but.. what's new?

First off this restaurant is beautiful! We parked across the street and from the outside it doesn't look like much, but once you see all of the outside seating and how beautiful it looks inside, you will be impressed! Service was great! I got an iced tea and their chorizo breakfast burrito ($17). Burrito was big. It had veggies inside it, potatoes, and came with some hot sauce on the side. My friend got their tuna albacore melt. She enjoyed it as well. Would definitely be back to try some other options on the menu.

This place is exactly what I need in my life. Crispy, chewy, crunchy breads with spreads that will knock your socks off. Yes, please. I had the Caesar salad, 10/10 no notes. Delicious food, a warm atmosphere and great service. I'll be back!

Returned to Superba for dinner and had a much better experience in the evening! Came here for an early birthday celebration for my partner and we shared the bread plate with the addition of "good salt and butter". The breads were fresh out of the oven and I particularly liked the one that was already buttered. I had the tagliatelle (vegetarian friendly) for my entree and my partner had the rigatoni bolognese. The rigatoni was al dente, which my partner enjoyed. We split a chocolate layer cake for dessert, which is definitely geared for chocoholics. Overall, it was a cozy ambiance for an intimate dinner and I'd really recommend getting the bread.

Okay I'm updated to four stars because my eggs weren't hot, just barely warm, when I tried the cheesy toast. AND the seasonal pumpkin pie is lackluster. Crust was soooo oily. Plus the filling was super mushy and I like my pumpkin pie to be slightly firm, just enough so that it holds shape when you cut it. Maybe this would've tasted better if I put it in the fridge first to let it firm up a bit. On a positive note, definitely try their tuna melt! The tuna is fantastic! And I absolutely adore their housemaid chips. Anyways I still love Superba- always will!

Delicious spot my friend who lives here recommended! The spot didn't disappoint. We got a bunch of appetizers to share including the bread basket and the butter- everything was really good. All the breads were delicious. We sat outside which was nice because the outside was nice - we got a few drinks and the drinks were really good! Service was also nice, food came out quickly and it was pretty easy to order. Parking can be hard but there a few parking garages closeby and street parking also.

First time at the Superba Hollywood location since we were in the area. We opted to park in the residential streets as opposed to valet. Docking a star because the smell of urine was so strong at the entrance of the restaurant going in and leaving. The intensity of the stench caught me so off guard. Food, on the other hand, was delicious. I really enjoyed the assortment of bread, pasta, and grain bowl. Everything tasted healthy and flavorful. No complaints. Service was also friendly.

Ask the Community - Superba Food + Bread Hollywood

    What are the busiest times?

    I'd say brunch and dinner.

Do they have gluten free options?

Is this the kind of place I can get a coffee and get some work done on a laptop?

I think so. It feels more like a restaurant where they want to turn over tables rather than a coffee house, but there were smaller tables too. I'd call and ask.

For brunch, do they serve mimosos or any alcohol?

Hi Brittany, Thank you for reaching out! Superba Hollywood has a full bar which features specialty…

Do you guys have valet parking?

I believe they have valet during peak dinner and maybe brunch hours but not lunch during the day. I think.

When do you stop serving brunch?

Great question! Brunch service is from 9am to 4pm Saturday and Sunday.

I see a photo of a grain bowl, but didn't see it on the menu - is this place vegetarian-friendly?

Hi Heather! Thanks for reaching out with your question. We do have a Grain Bowl on our lunch and brunch menu. It is a Vegetarian dish. It can also be made vegan by withholding the egg. We do carry many Vegetarian and Vegan dishes and options.…

Is the hippie burger vegan? Any other options?

No it isn't unless you get it with no bun..i think the green bean side order is vegan.

    Is the patio doggy friendly?

Hi Hugo- We love dogs at Superba. Please bring your dog. We also have house made dog biscuits!…

Do we need reservations for brunch?

While they're not required, it's probably a good idea if you can. We made them when we went.

It remains a unique addition to the neighborhood, as well as a good place to grab some interesting dishes. Since the opening of this particular business, the Zinc chain has opened in a few other locations. Those locations are much newer in not only their establishment but their design. This is not to say that this is still not an interesting, well-designed business, but, with time, it has become a little bit rundown. I hate to say it, but that is the truth. This location could really use an update and perhaps a deep cleaning. I was, in fact, kind of surprised at the condition of this business, for example, on the way towards their restrooms. From my opinion, it needs an clean up and an update. Also, the litter that surrounded some of the outdoor tables where I was sitting at my most recent visit was very surprising. This is just something to keep in mind if you're coming here for your first visit. In terms of what they offer for food, though it has evolved a bit over the years, they still have a great, heath-based menu, with some very interesting choices. For all of you vegetarians and vegans out there, you will, for sure, be able to find some tasty food to eat. Once upon a time, this restaurant was impacted with tons and tons of people. It was constantly full with people either going to the bakery and/or sitting down for table service. Shortly past their opening each day, there would be a line of people waiting for service. This seems to have changed, however. Meaning, if you're looking for an interesting place to eat, with some good dishes, at the far Southeast side of DTLA, near the lofts district, and you want a place without a long wait to get a table and/or your food, this may still be your place to go.

This was, without a doubt, the worst experience I've ever had at Zinc. I've been coming here on and…read moreoff for the past four years and have never experienced customer service this bad. We started with coffee. My boyfriend ordered a mocha, and I ordered a salted caramel latte. His drink was fine, but mine had absolutely no flavoring. As a former barista, I could immediately tell it was just a plain iced latte. I politely asked the waitress if they had forgotten the syrup, and she insisted, "There is syrup in it, but I can ask them to add more." I knew there wasn't any syrup, but I didn't want to argue, so I said, "Sure, please add more." A few minutes later, the manager came over and told me they actually didn't have salted caramel. So I asked if I could just get a regular caramel latte instead. She then told me they couldn't make that either because they were out of caramel sauce, the very reason they couldn't make the salted caramel in the first place. So why hand me a plain iced latte and tell me it had syrup when you knew you didn't even have the ingredients? Why not simply come back and let me know you were out and ask if I'd like something else? Instead, I was given a regular latte at the price of a flavored one (plus they later charged me for the syrup they never even added). For context, I had originally ordered a dirty chai, which they also couldn't make. So that's two drinks they didn't have, yet no one thought to communicate that before serving me something completely different. When I told the manager I'd look back at the menu for another option, she responded, "Okay... are you going to tell the waitress what drink you want?" I just looked at her, confused, and said, "Well... yeah?" How else was I supposed to order a replacement? The interaction came across as unnecessarily rude. Then it was time to order food. My boyfriend ordered the truffle burger, and I ordered the French toast. The waitress came back a few minutes later and said they couldn't make the French toast. No problem, I told her I'd also have the truffle burger. She acknowledged it, wrote it down, asked how I wanted it cooked, and what side I wanted. I ordered it medium-well with fries. So both burger orders were sent in at the same time. About 20 minutes later, the food arrived, but only my boyfriend's burger and an extra side of fries that we never ordered. At that point, we didn't even bother saying anything about the fries because we were trying to avoid making things more difficult. We waited another 20 minutes (even though it was so slow). My boyfriend finished eating, and my burger still hadn't come out. Finally, we asked for the check and requested that my burger be removed since it never arrived. That's when the waitress told us I had never ordered a second burger. I was honestly speechless. I reminded her that she had taken my order after telling me they couldn't make the French toast. She had written it down, asked how I wanted it cooked, and asked what side I wanted. Her response was that she thought I meant only my boyfriend's burger. That explanation made no sense because my boyfriend's order had already been taken before she took mine. It honestly felt like we were being gaslit over something as simple as ordering a burger. To make matters worse, after we paid and were finally leaving, I looked at the receipt and realized I had been charged for the salted caramel latte that I never actually received. We had to go back yet again. Thankfully, a different employee, not the waitress or the manager helped us. They were friendly, understanding, and quickly corrected the charge. I'm not sure if management has changed, but this entire experience was unnecessarily frustrating from beginning to end. Everything that could have gone wrong did. Honestly, I should've taken the "B" health grade posted on the window as a warning. We ended up walking over to Blue Bottle next door for coffee instead, and I'd absolutely recommend going there if you're looking for a place that actually values customer service. After four years of coming to Zinc, this experience has me seriously questioning whether I'll ever be back.

This restaurant is set in the Hauser and Wirth art Gallery complex and since we got there early we toured the front gallery with an incredible assist from a docent named Michael who pointed out the most incredible pieces and steered us to the gallery at the back of the complex behind Manuela's. Both galleries are worth exploring. However, back to Manuela's. Our very friendly server sat us on the large wraparound patio and after my explaining my celiac issues and getting some guidance on their incredible menu, we shared the following after my friend ordered a delicious Sangria while knowing as a lightweight and cheap date I would be having 6 cocktails later, I ordered the Ta Ta Tatiana- Watermelon, ginger, honey, lemon, mint, bitters: Cast iron cornbread, cultured butter, wildflower honey Kusshi oysters, Nantes carrot mignonette Arugula, emerald beauty plum, goat cheese, spiced pecans, aged balsamic Hokkaido scallops, brown butter-bacon vinaigrette, mustard greens The oysters came out first and had a delightful and unusual carrot mignonette. Small and not like Louisiana Gulf Oysters, they were fresh and delicious. Next came the Arugula salad that was tart and tasty as well as a generous portion. The cast iron cornbread was ridiculously so good I joked that I would just order two of them next time. This joint actually makes their cornbread without flour which is sadly rare for me so not only was this a gluten free treat, it was light and just melted in blissful corn flavor. Last came the scallops in a brown butter bacon vinaigrette with mustard greens that was so perfectly prepared these might be the best scallops I've ever eaten, which can sometimes be dicey. With the sauce they could have served blackened, sautéed asphalt and it would have tasted good. Well done to Manuela's all around.

The outdoor space was absolutely beautiful and the perfect setting to celebrate with my closest friends and family. We did a family-style brunch, and let me tell you, they did not miss. We started with the arugula salad, Louisiana shrimp aguachile, and cream biscuits. Those biscuits? Listennnn. Order them. Fight over them if you have to. lol They were THAT good! For the main dishes, we shared the French toast, chilaquiles, and shrimp and grits, along with house-made bacon and butterball potatoes. The French toast and bacon were my favorites by far. My goodness. I am still thinking about them. The shrimp and grits were also perfectly seasoned and packed with flavor. What made me laugh was that our group is usually very chatty. There was so much talking, catching up, and laughing. Then the food arrived and suddenly all you heard were forks and spoons hitting plates followed by a bunch of "mmm," "oh wow," and "girl! you've got to try this." That's when you know the food is doing its job. Our server was amazing and took such great care of us. Everything came out smoothly, and we never felt rushed. Between the beautiful setting, incredible food, and being surrounded by people I love, it was one of those afternoons I'll always remember. I'll absolutely be back, and those biscuits and French toast will be the first things I order.
