Great food, we tried to start out with crab dip and soup and the soup did come first but the crab dip was last. The crab dip was delicious and I liked but didn't love the soup. The lobster roles were really good but the homemade chips were too salty to eat. If you like smoky caramel then I highly recommend the chocolate torte, I'm not usually big on smoked stuff but it went well with the very chocolatey torte. My biggest complaint would be a person sitting next to us who was rather loud, the tables are so close together that we couldn't have a conversation because we didn't feel comfortable trying to talk over the person next to us. read more

I cannot wait to go back!!! I was recently saying I wish there was another bar that was like the Jasper and Birdie's is it. Think The Jasper but with oysters. This place is gorgeous and they also have outdoor seating which is a big plus. We ordered a variety of different types of oysters, all were juicy and tasted so fresh. We also got the Birdie's Chips, the smoked fish dip complemented our oyster + cocktail combo perfectly. Their drinks were equally as pretty and unique. We had the best experience! There is unfortunately only street parking available but it was easy for us to find a spot close by. We didn't make reservations but that option is available on their website! 10/10 would recommend for a cute date idea! read more

Would have been great but they decided to close at 11:15 instead of the posted 12am. We were at the Common House for a wedding and wanted to come here for a wedding reception night cap with many others and they wouldn't serve anyone saying that the manager decided to close it down early. We come here around 11 on a Saturday. Parking was rough but we lucked out and got a spot not too far away. It isn't a large space inside, but it's cozy and the decor is cute and retro. The bartender was somewhat distracted and talked with other people at the bar for most of our visit, but the chef came out and he was really friendly and so interesting to talk to! The oysters were all fresh and tasty, they offer about 6 different east coast varieties. The lobster roll was incredible, perfectly prepared - the melt-in-your-mouth lobster was tossed in a delicate sauce and wasn't tough or mushy at all. It's a quiet spot with lots to choose from. We have been working in the restaurant industry for our entire lives and this was the worst treatment by staff we have ever received. When we originally arrived we were told by a host that it was first come first serve, and to wait about 15 minutes outside which is completely understandable. We waited outside of the front of the restaurant for about 10 minutes with a group of 4 other people. A couple did walk up at one point and waited along the side of the door. When space finally cleared at the bar, we approached the door again where the host sat the group of 4 at a table, and told us there technically was a line (which she never mentioned nor were the group of 4 waiting in). She said she would seat us at the bar anyways because we had been waiting just not in the "line". Once sat, the bartender started talking to us and got us waters before a staff member (not sure if it was the manager) approached us. She told us there was a line and we needed to get up. Clearly no staff communicates as the host had just sat us and told us it was okay. She then tried to act as though she understood but still tried gesturing for us to get up and leave. We stopped trying to talk to her and got up to leave but the fact that they are trying to ask guests to get up after just seating them is disrespectful and disappointing. They also can't expect guests to know where the line is if staff aren't telling them and there are no visible signs or a line. We were so excited to get some food and drinks here after seeing other reviews, but definitely not worth it when the staff can't be the slightest bit respectful. read more

My wife and I had a dinner reservation but showed up early and decided to sit at the bar. We loved the space. It was clean, attractive and inviting. We enjoyed drafts, wine and cocktails. We, 2 ladies and myself, went for brunch on Dec. 23 . Mondays are strictly walk-in and we waited outside for about 20 minutes. Our drinks were small but tasty and our food was satisfactory. We had a very sweet waitress and tipped her over 20%. After looking at my receipt today, I noticed that I had already been charged a 20% gratuity. No one mentioned this fee. I did see, after going back to their website, that it was stated, in very small print, at the bottom of the menu; however, as a courtesy, someone should have said something. With the price of food and drinks these days a 40+% tip is excessive and something people on fixed incomes can't do. I feel like a was taken advantage of and I wonder how many others have also been subjected to this shady practice. read more

My family and I went to this bar/restaurant for a drink and some oysters and the manager and service was very unprofessional and unfriendly/unwelcoming. We went to order a drink and the manager wearing a headset piece told us we shouldn't order cocktails and we should order beer or wine because it is "quicker". When we asked to order oysters (a dozen) we were told "we can't because they are short staffed". There was 8 people behind the bar, 3 servers, 2 managers, 2 oyster shuckers, and 1 bartender. There was a party of 2 seated at a table and a party of 1 seated at another. After being refused food and being offered a simple draft beer on tap and glass of wine, there is nothing positive to say about this restaurant or experience. I initially went in for their famous clam chowder that I look forward to every time I visit Richmond but this time they didn't have it on the new menu. Food and service was amazing! You have to get the lobster roll - it was insanely good - huge pieces of lobster meat, creamy citrus flavor, and a buttery soft toasted bun and the oysters are a must! Next I'd recommend the almond cookie with peach ice cream for dessert with a coffee-we got an oat milk latte with chai syrup. The crab dip looked lack luster but was a really flavorful and a good size for 2. Only thing I wasn't a fan of was the peach and tomato panzanella - the produce was fresh and so sweet but the bread was too crunchy, more like croutons that couldn't be stabbed with a fork. This was such a cute space! The bar is lovely and I really liked the whole vibe. We went in around 4pm on a Saturday and it was pretty much empty. I got a cocktail and my partner had some oysters. That's really all we wanted (we miss Rapp Session!) and Birdie's delivered! The cocktail was tasty (though not very strong/mostly ice) and the oysters were fresh. We went for coffee and pastries! It's a small section off the bar - cute and clean. I had a oatmilk vanilla latte and a strawberry tart. The latte was great and the strawberry tart was delicious. My husband had the cinnamon roll - it's not your average cinnamon roll. It's more like a croissant charred on the edges sprinkled with cinnamon. We didn't love the charred parts, but the flaky, buttery inside was amazing. It's not a kid-friendly space, but no one gave us any dirty looks or disapproving glances when my son was trying to grab everything in sight. I ordered the cortado which was spectacular with the milk foam art. If you like sweet, you may want to add sugar. Dined for lunch (with a reservation) for a mid-week lunch Nov '22. I was thoroughly disappointed with everything: food, service, timing. It took 90 min to have lunch at a place where the seafood should have been raw or pre-cooked and chilled. I mostly blame the kitchen but the server ignored us and did nothing to apologize or remedy the situation. There were no excuses to be made as we could see the chef slowly preparing our food. 20 min after ordering food, I was told they were out of a raw bar item (shrimp) and offered a replacement off the seafood tower. What was described by the chef as marinated calamari in a spanish red sauce was actually a tin can of flaky seafood in a red oil sauce. It was fishy and I would not have ordered if I had been told it was canned. Everything came out in a very odd order: Seafood Dip, then salad, then sandwich then raw bar items. The dip and salad were 1 entree and sandwich another entree. Caesar salad was swimming in dressing, it was inedible. Grilled sandwich was burnt. The wine was decent but took 20 min to receive our drink orders. read more

Our new favorite oyster bar in Richmond! This place has three things going for it. First, the staff is friendly welcoming and very knowledgeable. We sat at the bar and enjoyed our time talking to the bartender. We watch the manager do everything from greet people as if they had always been friends to sweep up a broken glass. The service is fantastic. Second, the food was delicious! We will come back to try more. Oysters were fantastic but the rockfish crudo was a wonderful, surprising treat. Third, well crafted cocktails! Need to come back to try more of those too. The bartender knew so much about what they had on offer, from the mix of the cocktails to the hops in the beer. Amazing!
