Man these people act like you got no place to be and have an attitude while doing it. I came here cause I wanted a quick smoothie at 4:36pm. It is now 4:51pm and I have YET to get my smoothie. I ended up getting my smoothie at 4:55pm. Madness. Additionally after I ordered the person making the smoothie slowly got up with no sense or urgency. I figured I could come in for a quick healthy snack and they dragged it out as if I got a MEAL. furthermore they falsely advertise this place as a juice bar I arrive and it's a restaurant and bar. I called ahead with confusion as the juice bar is in the back but it's not even staffed. I was met rudely by the person on the phone but when you call the juice bar off the number on Google it redirects you to the bar. I got the green goddess smoothie and when I finally got my smoothie it was delicious. I will also be attaching a photo of the menu. They listed at almond milk would be an upcharge of $1 not not oat milk. I was then charged for oat milk as well. I didn't even care for the milk I would have opted for the spring water option. I am so happy to see this beautiful space brought back to life! The Hive Bar & Grill (and The Hive Market) is something you don't want to miss. Brandi Battle-Brown, the owner, had the grand opening yesterday on her birthday! What better way to celebrate. Both spaces have cozy twinkle lights. Inside the market is a gorgeous painting of their name. Outside both spaces is a beautiful mural by Jowarnise. Inside the bar and grill are lovely gold accents and Donna Summers records hang on the wall. We went on their grand opening night. It was fun to see and feel how new the space was because even our server had to review some things. Our server was great and attentive. He asked for our opinions and feedback. As a Yelper, I know you're here to read about the food. Here is what we tried: Kinky Kougar: I'm not one to blush while ordering drinks, but this was a fun name. The cocktail was nice too! I'm the type of person who doesn't want to taste alcohol in her drink, so was very happy that the pineapple juice was strong here. I loved the touch of lavender. Bee's Sting: My partner said this felt like drinking an amazing hot honey cocktail. It had a very nice kick and it smelled incredible. Fried Green Tomatoes: These were divine. I loved that it was the perfect amount of fried. The crunch was excellent and it wasn't too greasy. Crab Mac&Cheese: Old bay heaven meets your favorite family's barbeque mac and cheese. This dish is HUGE. Imagine your classic mac and cheese side x 4. It's a generous portion with delicious cheese, crab, macaroni, and a lovely touch of old bay. The cheese pull is gonna look amazing in your Yelp photos. The Big Brie Burger: MUST GET. This was divine. They cooked it exactly how I asked/liked it. I met a couple of friends here for lunch after checking out the Black History Museum and Cultural Center. It's within walking distance on a pleasant day. They do make some delicious signature cocktails. And the wings are to die for. Service was hit or miss -- first bartender was pretty attentive. The second one struggled (I got the sense she was newer.) We were trying to wrap up to be ready for our rideshare. I had to walk up to the counter to pay (as she had not been by the table and had her back to us) There was an issue separating the tab (again - I think she was newer) given the rush no time to review the bill in detail or separate so I just paid everything. After reviewing it today I discovered a cocktail we didn't order and an automatic 20% gratuity was be included. Never mentioned and I did not see it printed anywhere (it may have been -- no one in our group saw it. With that said we ended paying $69 on a $195. Unfortunately, not a 35% service experience. I understand why restaurant owners are including gratuity in the bill automatically--while I have opinions on that topic--what's productive in this forum is being aware it's being done there and it is a full 20%. Despite it not being a 5 star experience this weekend, I will be back. I'll just read my tab carefully before paying. read more

I visited The Hive Bar and Grill that's Black Owned and recently opened located in the Jackson Ward area of RVA. I decided to check them out during Brunch which is only available on Sunday's. We arrived at 10am as soon as they turned on the lights lol. Our server was nice and she might have been the only person working the front. They are new so let's give them some grace. My homie Whitney and I split the shrimp & grit cakes and were glad we did because the serving size is huge! Now one thing about RVA is there is no shortage of shrimp and grits on the menus around here haha. The Hive's variation of the dish is delicious! They are fried grits! They are so good and flavorful! My son took me to lunch at The Hive Bar & Grill to celebrate my Birthday. I just recently became aware of The Hive's existence thru a post I saw on Instagram. I knew I definitely wanted to visit this establishment as it is a Black family owned business & I am always excited to support businesses such as this one. I sincerely enjoyed my meal at The Hive. I had their Honey & Bourbon Shrimp, Macaroni & Cheese & the Kinky Cougar Cocktail. The food was delicious. The shrimp was spicy but not too spicy and the shrimp was not over cooked. The Mac & Cheese was my favorite sampling of M & C thus far in the area. I am not a Mac & Cheese fan so the fact that I ate my entire serving speaks to how yummy this dish was. From the seasoning to the tenderness of the pasta. I would definitely order the Mac & Cheese on a return visit. The cocktail was fun & flirty. Just as the name suggests.
