We LOVE this store! We are from out of town, and the last time we visited Arizona we went to every bird store in the greater Phoenix area. This was our favorite by a mile. We returned this weekend and got to hold so many sweet birds. The service is excellent and the family who runs it is very knowledgable and friendly. Every time I'm here I find some really cool treat options, like freeze dried fruit mixes, and cool toys for my bird back home. Been to a number of exotics stores in Phoenix metro. I felt this place was well run, had knowledgeable and helpful staff who weren't always trying to sell you something. They had a good selection of toys, treats and food, cages, and birds. They offer boarding and the birds there all had clean cages and appeared well kept. I was most impressed by how well behaved (overall) the birds were. They had healthy appearing babies too. So nice to see a good place up and running. After searching in vain for a parakeet at the big box store (can you say Petsmart?) I finally googled "parakeets near me" and found "Birds and Then Some." I called and Jason assured me that they had a good selection of parakeets so I headed over. I was greeted as I entered by the screech of a large white bird attacking a cardboard box, and as I walked through the shop saw hundreds of birds (none of which I knew the name of) in clean, well-maintained cages. More amazing were the number of birds sitting around outside a cage, including the one on Jason's shoulder when he greeted me. I thoroughly enjoyed his knowledge of the parakeet I was shopping for, and I had my choice of one of 6 blue ones who were flitting around in their cage. Bird captured, sale made (less expensive than the big box store,) I left with a new pet and a most pleasant and informative shopping experience. Highly, highly recommended! read more

I purchased a 'hand-tamed' lovebird a few weeks ago, and I have to say this is most wild 'hand-tamed' love bird I have ever purchased. (I've had 3 previously over the past 30 years.) We are handling this bird 6-7 times a day in an attempt to tame it, and it is still very flighty. Does not even sit on your finger. Don't know their definition of 'hand-tamed,' but this bird is not. Spending lots of time doing what someone else should have done. Very disappointing. I should have picked one out of the Phoenix trees Instead of buying one. #never again read more

I just can't praise this place enough. I think it's quite literally the best bird store in the state. I got my cockatiel here in August 2021. He came to us super tame and weaned, was able to step up and very friendly and healthy. Every time we go in, we have a pleasant experience. Wide selection of toys and food, perches, and more. People here are so nice! I had some baby quail that needed a cage friend because they were so loud. I purchased a pair of finches and they worked great!!! My quail got older and I decided to send them to a sanctuary because they were from the wild an abandoned nest. Well I didn't really want finches even though they were beautiful and adorable. I explained the unique situation and they gave me half of what I bought the pair for. I felt that was more than fair as most places won't take birds back for that reason. They were so helpful to get me companion birds and happy to take them back. Great customer service and clear they love birds and want their best interest. Very friendly and knowledgeable staff. Peach faced lovebirds invaded our yard starting last summer (another benefit of pandemic gardening I guess) and my daughter fell in love with them and dodging their poo. Fast forward to her birthday and we started our search for a hand-fed peach faced lovebird that would be a good companion. We are currently in the process of purchasing a green cheek conure from this particular store. The owner, Tammy, was happy to answer my dozens of questions over the phone. The prices are fantastic for durable toys, perches, and play equipment. When we showed the owner our cage she was concerned about bar spacing and even offered a loaner cage. If we had purchased a bird somewhere else (with a less thorough and helpful owner) our baby could have died. We were able to replace the cage in ample time before his adoption. Our bird is currently still at the store so the owner can be absolutely certain he's eating well (he's newly weaned). We will likely pick him up this weekend. Thankfully I can feel like we will have all the resources we need to take great care of the newest addition to our family because of the kind and knowledgeable owner of this store. Being a huge bird lover I had to check out this new store. Or it was new to me I hadn't seen it before. I really wanted to like it. Walking in I was immediately unimpressed. It is sad that I felt that way I wanted to like it. No customer service , the small store seemed stocked but I didn't see what I expected. This might have been something I'd overlook had I been greeted or gotten a welcome to our store. I felt sorry for the live birds there. It bordered on depressing. I hope they improve this impression. Horrible store to buy a bird!!! The clerk is rude and knows nothing of birds. The owner talks down to people and treats customers like they are inexperienced yet she will let inexperienced individuals take unweaned birds home, resulting in death. This place doesn't care about the well being of the birds-they will separate bonded birds to make money. They prop open their door with birds on perched which is horribly irresponsible. This store is a great place for the novice bird owner, as well as the experienced. The owner was located farther west off of 19th avenue but her new store is even better. Cages are always kept clean, food bowls are always filled, and even the friendliness of her birds are unlike other exotic bird stores. I've seen some stores where it looked as though the cages were never cleaned. These birds at Birds and Then Some are happy, energetic, friendly, and goofy. Did I mention her prices? I've consulted with stores with outrageous prices, but this owner sells her birds closer to breeder pricing plus the quality of the animals are much better. Even though it's a hell of a drive for me, I will continue using Birds and Then Some to buy my supplies. And to cuddle with the babies in the baby room! read more
