a breakfast of eggs, toast and potatoes

We traveled to VT for a wedding. We asked around for a good breakfast joint. Birdseye did not disappoint. The waitress was super friendly and knowledgeable about the dishes. The food was delicious. The place was super cute. I had a Philly omelette that has cream cheese in it. Soooo good.

short stack of chocolate chip pancakes, home fries

on a sunday afternoon, this diner had plenty of open space for seating. the interior is classic old diner, very charming. i ordered the short stack of chocolate chip pancakes and the home fries. one notably nice thing about this place is a pitcher of real maple syrup on every table. the pancakes were standard and pretty good, and the waitress provided ample butter. the home fries were a little disappointing as they were completely unseasoned. there is salt and pepper on the table, which made them edible, but they tasted slightly of dirt. the staff here is very pleasant and efficient at what they do, and it's very affordable to eat here.

Great Service and food at this stuck in time diner! Hometown feel in historic Castleton. One of the last reasonably priced breakfast spots remaining.

Nice old fashioned diner with good food, friendly service and low prices. Fish and chips were great. Battered fish was crispy and cooked to perfection. Fries were delicious Got a strawberry malted milk shake which was loaded with ice cream and strawberries. Like stepping back in time and getting a malted at the local New England drug store counter

Classic diner experience. Good food. The chocolate malt is the best ever. Friendly staff. Has a very small town feel. Better for breakfast or lunch than dinner. Classic big cakes and diner dessert. One of the best Rubens I've had and that is saying a lot.

Super cute diner in a quaint little town! We ate there on Saturday morning with no wait at all. Service was fast and friendly and food was delicious. Walked across street to the general store which I'll review separately.

Great little diner. Not many around anymore. Decent diner food and excellent staff. Exactly what you want, in a small Vermont town.

Classic little diner, good sized portions of classic diner fare, plus some contemporary specials. Hyper local in a small college town.

The light background music from Frank Sinatra Radio plays over the speakers, relaxing and not too loud. The dining room has a homey feel which is decorated which is dimly lit with plenty of old framed pictures on the walls, antiques, a few holiday lights, a couch next to a lighted angel, and a concrete floor. There are a few tables for large and small parties, a high top table and seating (6 high seats) with flatscreen TV and QuickDraw monitor at the corner bar. The menu offerings include appetizers, soups, salads, pasta dishes, chicken, steaks, seafood, desserts, soft drinks, beer & wine, plus a children's menu (12 & under). They also offer daily specials and the prices are fair. Each meal is prepared fresh to order. After driving back home from the North Country, I stopped by Champ's Corner Pub & Grill for dinner, at a campground of all places. I took a peek at the specials board near the front counter and took a seat at an open table. There were two large parties of older folks already enjoying drinks and dinner and a couple sitting at the bar. The server walked over with a menu and took my drink order (ice water). For a starter, the Wedge Salad ($7.95 plus tax), had a crisp iceberg wedge, topped with bleu cheese dressing, bleu cheese crumbles, bacon bits, chives and cherry tomato slices on each corner of the square plate. This wedge was a good sized and very good starter salad. A warm dinner roll with butter was served too. For dinner, I ordered the Baked Halibut Special ($22.95 plus tax) served with baked potato with butter & sour cream, fresh steamed green beans and lemon wedge. The halibut was a good size piece, thick, soft and flaky. The baked potato was very hot, already topped with butter, sour cream on the side. The green beans were nice and firm. I finished my big plate of food, but I had to pass on dessert. The check was $33.06 with tax and before tip. Overall, an excellent dinner with adequate service. I did have to wait a bit (12 minutes for the wedge and another 15 minutes for my dinner entree) since there was a large party that just ordered dinner as I arrived for dinner. I would definitely recommend stopping in here for a sold good homecooked dinner.

I first heard of Country Girl after watching Chronicle approx. 2 year ago. The whole experience was awesome! We ordered drinks immediately after taking our seats at the counter. I had a pepsi and I had to order a vanilla milk shake to go! My wife had water and coffee. We wanted to get our order in because we felt like the staff was nice enough to let us in that we didn't want to stall them from getting out at closing. My wife had grilled cheese with tomato soup. I had a burger with fries. My wife was thrilled with the soup. She said it was the best tomato soup she has had in a long time! My fries were excellent. home made and tasty! We enjoyed a very tasty midday breakfast/lunch with good, easy-going service and a distinctly local flavor. But let's get to the food: over-easy eggs cooked just right, homemade and delicious corned beef hash, and a nice-size burger cooked as requested and yummy. Service was quick, the restaurant was clean, and the new guy in the kitchen merits praise for his good work. My friend and I took a stroll around town for about an hour, and walked back up in front of the wooden soldier where we had parked before leaving town. One of the employees asked if I was the girl who had lost my sunglasses. She let me know that the gentleman who had served us had found them under the booth after we left and had asked to local businesses if they had seen us!
