My wife and I along with some friends stopped in for dinner. The hostess seated us right away even though the manager told her we should have had reservations and rolled his eyes at her. We were wearing nice jeans and t-shirts from an event we were attending in Birmingham. I'm sure it wasn't bougie enough for him and the clientele. My wife, our friend and I ordered the overly priced burgers Theirs to be cooked well done and mine cooked to medium. All 3 burgers came out looking like they were waved over the grill and tossed on a plate. After my wife and friends got up and left saying the place was disgusting and that they were looking for somewhere else to eat, I ask the "manager" if my burger looked medium to him. His reply was "Yes - That is our medium". The outside was browned but that was as close to cooked as it got. He agreed my wife and her friends was not cooked properly and didn't make us pay for anything. Beware if you order a burger. You may want to order it "well well done", or you may get Burger Tar Tar. Not enough here to inform you of my brothers, little high dollar Ruben, he ordered. Not impressed at all for a high dollar pub. For the second time in a row, the French fries came out COLD!! not warm, but COLD! (Both regular AND the sweet potato fries). They brought new ones, but come on. Wtf??? My wife and mother were not happy. I ordered a fattoush salad. I was not overly hungry, so thought I would try something smaller. What a joke. There was nothing "fattoush" about it. They threw on some radish pieces and "pita". But it was NOTHING like I get at my AUTHENTIC. and awesome carry-out SHISH KEBOB EXPRESS just across Old Woodward. The chefs at this place need to take some culinary lessons on hot food and authenticity. I like the atmosphere and want them to do well. The pastas were room temperature and extremely small portions considering the prices. We also ordered the Delmonico, and the first one came out well done when we'd requested medium. The waiter was nice and had them remake it, but it took an additional 30 minutes -- and by the time it arrived, everyone else had finished their entrées, and they brought out a completely rare steak. This restaurant is beautifully decorated, and probably the biggest waste of money I've seen, considering they can't even cook a steak properly. Our waiter Marco did a great job, but the rest of the staff looked lost and unfriendly, and had no idea how to properly set a table. I will never go to this establishment again.

I've continued to come back because the food is genuinely very good, but great food isn't enough to make up for feeling ignored and disrespected as a customer. This is consistent with all of the rumors we have heard about this restaurant being unfair to certain races. The staff is genuinely kind, the service is great, and the quality has stayed consistent over the years. There's a reason Luxe has been a downtown Birmingham favorite for more than 15 years.
