This Mexican restaurant immediately caught my attention as we were walking by after an event in the area. the restaurant is beautifully designed with a modern, vibrant atmosphere that makes you want to step inside. It's definitely one of those places that lures you in without warning. We decided to stop in for a quick bite and ordered a burrito and fries and chips with salsa. The restaurant was packed and appeared to be short staffed, so the service was slower than usual. that said, our server was incredibly friendly and welcoming, and they did a great job despite how busy things looked. The burrito and fries were good and definitely satisfied the craving, but the real standout for me was the chips and salsa. I'm a sucker for thick, crunchy tortilla chips and these were exactly that. What a pleasant surprise this resturaunt was. The decor is bright and artistic. On one of the main walls there is a very pretty mural with a forced perspective of a village road/walkway. We had the mushroom tacos and the chopped salad. Both were fresh and quite flavorful. The salad was crunchy and crunchy with bright citrus notes from the lime dressing. The tacos were hot and fresh. They were very savory and had a rich sauce which brought out the earthy flavors of the mushrooms. We all had various margaritas that were excellent. Some margaritas can be too sugary sweet, trying to mask the alcohol, but these were very flavorful, both spicey and a little tart. The food here is okay. It's not the best Mexican food but they have tons of different options. I had the taco salad and the chicken fajitas. It's a good amount of food but lacked seasoning. The staff was really nice and helpful. They have lunch specials with a few good items under $12. We I got here for lunch with my boss a few times but never really think it's extraordinary. I will say it was a Friday and before a basketball game but it was not as busy as you would think. We were seated in an area that felt like the Sahara Desert and above us the ceiling tiles were covered in black mold and looked like it was going to collapse. They sat 4 more guests at our table........ not next to us.. or behind our table but AT our table. I asked for a dirty martini and was told it was too complicated for the bar at the moment due to being understaffed. I should have figured this was a miss when there were open spots available during a busy event day in Orlando. Restaurant was maybe 50% full and it took over 15 minutes for someone to greet us. We were about to walk out when finally a server came over. The food is fine. They specialize in birria, but mine must have been sitting out for a while. It was a dry and did not have a lot of flavors. I had it on nachos and there was not much cheese. I did have a large amount refried beans which tasted good. I felt like they are trying to save money by over doing the beans. Drinks were pricey, but good. I did not taste much tequila in my margarita but they do get points for not having a very sugary sour mix. They brought us water which did not taste like filtered. It just tasted like FL tap water. There is outdoor seating as well and the decor inside gave an upscale Mexican cantina vibe. Ok, so this is a great place to grab a bite to eat. The only thing I'm not to crazy about is the parking situation. That usually turns me off when it comes to visiting places in downtown. And seeing all the food around us that was being served and the smells of all the foods passing our table was almost unbearable to stand. Had Birria1983 for the first time by the owners at the Tacos and tequila last year and had been looking forward to coming to the restaurant. I had save it specifically to come before a Kia Center event being that parking is a bit complicated around this area. Came here on a Saturday late afternoon with a couple of friends. The service was very prompt and courteous. Our server was able to get us in and out of there fairly quickly. The menu is broken down by place and by protein choice which gives the us as the customer a lot of flexibility. The pricing was what caught my eye. It was a bit on the higher side, but what made up for it was the the portions very daily ample. The guacamole and queso dip were fresh and made from real ingredients which we gotta appreciate now a days. I ordered the birria bowl and it was massive!! However I'd appreciate a smaller portion in exchange tastier flavor. I feel like the birria was bland and on the drier side and lacked consomé. My friend who ordered the tacos seem to enjoy them, however she complained that the tortillas fell apart mid taco for all of them making it difficult to eat as a handheld. Wow! Birria 1983 is en excellent new addition to downtown Orlando, luckily we went at an off-hour and it was quick and easy to get a table. The service was nice and everyone was friendly while we looked at the rather large, unexpectedly, menu. Of course, they began us with chips and salsa, which is always a nice touch. The chips came warm and the salsa wasn't super spicy but still had a great flavor. I was absolutely in love with the birria tacos, the flavor was perfect and they didn't completely fall apart as soon as I tried to eat them. For being tacos, they were also very filling, I definitely didn't need anything else to feel like I had a complete meal. The TIk Tok burrito, on the other hand, was massive - we weren't expecting it to be so large. it, too, had great flavor, but had a lot more things going on - the simple tacos were excellent and didn't need all of the extras that the burrito had. I went here with my husband and never again. Both of us wound up with an upset stomach. They are close to the kia center where the Orlando Magic play so we thought it would be a good idea to eat there. It's walking distance. I ordered overpriced steak Fajitas... now I will say this. The steak was delicious!! They have onions and zucchini mixed in on the hot plate. The seasoning was super . Where they went wrong were on the sides. There were two tablespoons of beans and rice. Like come on...we are adults and this looked like a kids portion. When the salad part came out it was wrong. I ordered lettuce, extra Pico de gallo. It came out with the full fixings. Lettuce, Pico, sour cream, and guac. That got sent back. My husband ordered the taco trio with steak. He doesn't like onions and of course it came out with onions on it. We checked the menu and there is no mention of onions anywhere on the menu description. He picked them off. That left him with literally steak and the taco shell. Nothing else comes on that thing. No lettuce, no cheese... nothing. Fortunately, earlier I ordered queso. He drizzled that over the top of the steak which helped. Let's talk about the salsa. I tasted like spaghetti sauce. That is why I ordered the $9 queso....which I didn't like. I was thankful my husband ate it. I did however like how they had a big bottle of water on the table. We drank 2 of them. We had to wait 10 minutes for them to bring the second one. But at least they had the big bottle which kind of made it self serve. Birria is a brand new restaurant! The inside was so nice! I loved all the decorations. I was surprised by how empty it was but maybe because they don't have their liquor license yet? Currently for drinks they have mocktails. I ordered the taco salad with shrimp. It was excellent!!! We also ordered guacamole for the table. I was disappointed for the price that it was barely any guacamole. I definitely would not order that again that again. The staff were attentive and friendly. I wish I could give zero stars. This was one of the most unprofessional, disrespectful dining experiences I've ever had. I came here with one friend and sat at the bar. We ended up chatting with a couple of other patrons also sitting nearby--just friendly, casual conversation. Apparently, talking to other humans now qualifies as a "group," because the restaurant automatically added a group service fee and auto-gratuity to our individual checks without telling us. We admittedly didn't scrutinize the itemized receipt until after we paid, but once we noticed, we asked to speak to a manager to clarify the charges. That's when things went from bad to worse. The manager yelled at us, accused us of being "drunks" (we each had one margarita with dinner), and refused to remove the charges--saying we were "clearly a group" because we were talking to people. Excuse me? Since when is being friendly at a bar grounds for financial penalty? She was rude, condescending, and flat-out refused to correct their sketchy billing. I had to go through my bank to dispute the charge--and thankfully, they sided with me and reversed it due to the restaurant's fraudulent behavior. Bottom line: This place is shady. They're banking on people not checking their bills and have zero integrity when confronted. Save yourself the trouble--don't patronize this establishment. They're dishonest, disrespectful, and clearly have no clue how to treat customers. read more

Terrible experience. Except for the mural paintings, there's nothing else that's nice about this place. The dinning area has dirty floors and is not well maintained. The bar stools are uncomfortable, and half don't match the others. The bar top was dirty, and the area behind the bar is crowded with a large stack of dishwasher glass-racks, a big bulky-looking dishwasher, and a bunch of other large items. The bartender attended us with a bad attitude after we asked them to please wipe the counter in front of us. We ordered one of their signature cocktails, but they couldn't make it because they were missing one of the ingredients (prosecco... like what bar runs out of sparkling wine on Saturday?!!). Since they specialize in Margaritas, we also ordered their "top shelf" margarita, which they served in a rocks glass without a rim! When we were ready to pay, the bartender asked us to just give him our credit card number so he could enter it in their pos system... we just laughed and asked him to bring us the itemized check with the pos, and we paid with Apple Pay to avoid what seemed like something strange. I won't be back and I don't recommend this place at all to anyone! read more
