We went here yesterday after letting the kiddos play next door at Funhouse. The food was amazing! Authentic, freshly made and delicious! I have the Carne Molcajete with rice and beans, my friend had the Chile Relleno, kids had chicken nuggets and fries. My dish was so delicious, with homemade tortillas. I felt like I was sitting at someone's kitchen table. My friend's Chile Relleno was amazing too. She is Mexican and LOVED the food as well. The only thing I could say I wish were better seasoned are the refried beans. The Jicama was also delicious. I have a picky toddler who ate 4 of those chicken nuggets. That says a lot! I haven't tried their birria yet, but my dad and I always come here for the best carnitas tacos around. Their carnitas are crispy and flavorful and the home made tortilla with their taco salsa brings it all together and it's just heaven in your mouth. Customer service is also always great. Five stars are hard to get, but this place was great. Everything we ordered was good. The guacamole had clearly just been made and was chunky and fresh. The chips and salsa were good (even though the salsa was too spicy for this wuss). I had the combo plate with the chili relleno and cheese enchilada and basically licked the plate clean. My friend had three cheese enchiladas and his plate was finished, too. The homemade corn tortillas were piping hot and delicious. The service was outstanding, too. I just came back from Mexico and know what birria is supposed to taste like; their birria isn't bad but it's not great either. The food is reasonably priced, though not cheap, and the birria (goat stew) is served with handmade tortillas. If you want birria in a pinch, this place will do. Two people can eat for $40 (before tip) provided you're not ordering alcohol. The portions are generous, the food is solid, and the service is good. There's a ton of parking in the back so finding a spot isn't an issue although I'm not sure if this restaurant is visible from Van Nuys because their main entrance is next to the parking lot. read more

Have not been in here for years- tonight we decided to try it again. BTW, the restaurant is small and does not face Van Nuys Blvd. It's on the BACK of the building, facing west. Enter from the parking lot only. We had a chile relleno and flautas de pollo. Both come with generous sides of rice and beans. We also got a little salad and some handmade tortillas. Quality was excellent. I was curious about the lighting: They installed some harsh-white-colored light bulbs which give the whole place kind of a "cold" feeling.
