Out here on a visit from California. I was skeptical about eating Mexican food outside of Mexico and California because I've been so spoiled and have high expectations. This was by far the best meal that I've had during my trip here and I am still blown away by the authenticity and amazing flavors! The service was on par to a fine dining restaurant but with much more warmth and generosity. I am so glad that I didn't let my bias stop me from trying this place and will definitely be back everytime I am in town for business or pleasure

This Michelin Bib is still worthy of their ranking. The customer service and food quality are still top notch. This visit, we tried the cheese quesadilla, quesabirria, and consomme. All the food items were really good but were missing the little extra to make it a 5 star experience. Worth a visit to try if you haven't tried goat meat before. Overall, serves was personable and restaurant itself was very clean. Tip: This spot was featured on a Netflix special "Taco Chronicles" for some of the best Mexican food in Chicago.

I was over in the area for a meeting the other week and wanted to stop by because I had heard great things! Birriera Zaragoza did not disappoint. [[HIGHLIGHT]]As soon as I walked in you felt like family.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] [[HIGHLIGHT]]There were a few tables and most of them were filled and this was on a weekday afternoon.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] I got my order to go because I had other meetings, but the owners asked if I was sure I didn't want to sit down and eat. I'm going to make sure I come back so that I can get the full experience of this family owned establishment. I ordered the quesabierria and it was outstanding. Even though I didn't eat it right away, it was still hot when I ate it. The food was packed with flavor. I love that they use goat! It gave it a real rich and savory flavor. This is a really great family owned spot that deserves all of the accolades that they've received. I wouldn't recommend this place highly enough.

[[HIGHLIGHT]]Authentic feel and taste of Mexico![[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] The Birria was flavorful and tender. The best Birria I have had in Chicago hands down. The Machito tacos were crisp and reminded me of Mexico, it is hard to find Machito tacos made this way in Chicago. They brought me a taste of the Goat Head taco and I enjoyed it very very much. The crispness of the meat and tenderness was a great combination. They also have a different salsa if you ask that was really good as well. Service was on point, only bad part is the size of the place. [[HIGHLIGHT]]It's very small but they do have a waiting area a couple doors down and come to get you when there is room.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Great experience and food!

Ah Chicago. You cold cold city. The moment I stepped off the plane, the familiar craziness of the city weather settled into my mind. I was home. Of course, one of Chicagos classics, Birrieria Zaragoza, was on my mind. I headed over straight from Midway to get one of my favorites: birria tacos. I'm a big fan of lamb, so you know I get excited for this place. High quality tortillas, delicious and succulent meat, I was in for a world of deliciousness to fill my stomach the rest of the day. Even though it was a blizzard outside, the warmness from the server takes that all away. The hospitality is the cherry on top of the delicious meal, and nothing can take that away from this cozy spot. I have much more to say about how amazing this place is, but really it just settles into your heart in its own corner, a nice warm memory that keeps you going. Come here - it's well worth it.

Wow wow wow. An instant favorite. Truly the GOAT of goat tacos (sorry). Two of us split a large birria plate, a birria quesadilla, and 1 birria taco because we wanted to try different items. I also had an iced horchata coffee which was sweet and delicious on a hot day. It was too much food but we still finished it because it was that good. The quesadilla was my least favorite of the three things we tried and still one of the best quesadillas I've ever had - that good. Probably the best tacos of my life. We waited for a bit as there isn't much seating but they have a convenient waiting area next door. Super friendly ownership too. Excited to try the Uptown location which is much closer to us.

We got 1 lb goat head/Cabeza w/ cilantro, cebolla, limones, picante, consomé y chiles de arbol & Molcajete salsa or tomato sauce that I forgot to ask exactly what it was but it was good! The roasted goat was absolutely perfect. So juicy, tender, and flavorful. 1 lb is a good amount between two guys. So much good flavor with the molcajete sauce and consome broth and roast goat. This made me very happy and a little sleepy lol. I love how they operate out of use the entire (former) residential building to seat people and cook on both floors. Service was top notch at the table and we were even greeted by multiple employees on our way out. Definitely a must visit spot if you're by Midway airport.

Here's what I ordered plus the FLAN!!!!!!

Joanna was my server and she was amazing! My first trip into this establishment and I WILL be back! I originally went in to try a small plate of their Birria and had to try a couple other items! You have to try the cabeza taco as well and finish it off with one of their flan!!!!! Check out the photos sorry no photo of the flan, I couldn't get my phone out fast enough!

Absolutely amazing. Came in for lunch and finally had real birria not the beef crap they sell as birria in New York. The broth was so rich in flavor and they have homemade tortillas on the side. Also the hi is is drink was delicious. Workers were very friendly and spoke Spanish as well.

[Birrieria Zaragoza] Bib Gourmand Mexican restaurant in Archer Heights that specializes in only one dish: Birria. Featured on many articles and even on Netflix It was crazy busy when we walked in. Once you walked in it gives local mom & pops type of feel. The entire restaurant was packed but we happened to find seats in the back and you'll walk through the kitchen seeing them cooking up the goat meat. The Birria was amazing, very juicy. They provide condiments that you want to add such as onions, peppers, etc. We also ordered the horchata which was refreshing. Kinda reminded me of Cinnamon Toast Crunch milk. The food was good. The vibe and ambiance of the restaurant gives small local family shop and its busy. The service and the price point was good. Overall, 7.5/10. https://www.birrieriazaragoza.com 4852 S Pulaski Rd Chicago, IL 60632

I am a birria fanatic. This place taste just like the one from the motherland. The birria is so tender and juicy and the consomé is delicious to dip your tacos in. I tried the horchata cafe, it was okay. Definitely come here for birria and hand made tortillas. The service is always great, makes you feel like family. They have a small parking lot on the side of the street. Get here early on The Weeknd's, they sell out fast.

Ask the Community - Birrieria Zaragoza

Is the meat you use Halal? Could you provide the company that you order your meat from?

The meat is Halal certified, however, we braise it in pork fat. The farm we order from is Olague Farm.

Does this restaurant have gluten free friendly options?

Does the ancho-based mole salsa, that you braise the meat in, have nuts in it?

We use sesame seed in our ancho-based mole salsa.

What's the difference between plate and bowl?

Plate cames with a layer of the broth/consomme under the meat, bowl is full of the consomme. I definitely prefer the bowl because you get to have more of their amazing broth but if you don't want it, the plate is a bit cheaper.

Is this business BYOB? Are there places to purchase liquor nearby?

Yes.It IS BYOB.I was just there this past Saturday. As far as liquor stores go I would just go to the nearest 7-11 because I dont see anything really close by bit 7-11 sells carryouts and so does Walgreen's.

I'm really hungry and I don't want to be disappointed with the birria. Any comments would be appreciated before I head in?

Not a huge menu, get one of everything. It has never disappointed before.

The inside of the restaurant was really cute and colorful and they had a separate bar area for drinks. I decided to order a spicy michelada with Pacifico beer while waiting. I ordered the Paloma, and my husband got the Michelada, both super refreshing and made well. For food, I ordered the El Gringo with rice and salad. I definitely wish I had swapped the salad for beans, because my husband got both rice and beans, and I ended up finishing my rice and helping with his too lol. Highly recommend this dish, just go for the beans instead of the salad! My husband also ordered three tacos: Al Pastor, Chorizo, and Carne Asada, all of which were really good. One of the fun touches is that they have QR codes at the table to leave a Google review, and if you do, you get to spin a prize wheel. Of course I had to try it, and it made the whole experience even more fun. I ended up winning a free double shot!
