But waiting wasn't bad at all since you can smell the food and watch everything being made right in front of you. The place has this hacienda-style look that just feels right. Staff was super nice and kept things moving. I ordered two tacos, both with everything. One arrachera, one pork in green sauce. I was not ready for the size. These tacos were huge. Packed with meat, beans, rice, and topped with this cabbage and onion mix, kinda like their own coleslaw. No cilantro and onion, which was different, but honestly refreshing. The arrachera taco was the star for me. The meat had this deep charred flavor, smoky and juicy, with crispy edges but still tender inside. The pork in green sauce tacos were rich and comforting, slightly tangy from the salsa, but really well balanced. The beans and rice weren't just fillers either, they actually had flavor and tied everything together. Oh man, it was a messy experience and really satisfying. One taco could honestly be enough. No nonsense casual Mexican place. Good but not amazing compared to the other restaurants in the area. I got the Bistek Asada, the Puerco in Salsa Verde. The puerco was the obvious winner, because the meat was super tender and the salsa was flavorful and delicious. It did taste a little heavy though. As for the bistek, I liked the flavor of the steak (and I'm someone who really likes steak) but the texture of it was a little tough and overcooked. It was still good, but I expected more from a Pilsen taqueria and these didn't manage to stand out. I loved their corn tortillas and the portion sizes were huge. 1 taco is $5.50 and it's the size of like 2 or 3 normal sized tacos. Indeed good things are hidden gems! My dear friend introduced me to this place a few days ago and I live some minutes away and couldn't fathom how I missed it. This place is VERY AFFORDABLE! Yet their food is extremely tasty, it was so good, I returned the next day with my husband who also confirmed it. If you are looking for an authentic Mexican restaurant, with low cost and plentyyyy of options, this is the place for you. Their service is also SUPER FAST. Hello yelpers it's the fat boy once again. Today was Mexican food day. The Mrs. & I visited El Milagro. I liked the nice decor of the place, very clean and the service was good. It was a decent crowd in but the line moved fast. We got our order to go. We ordered the Molé, a steak Taco, chili rellenos and a Taco guisado de Res. First off these tacos are a bit different with the cabbage slaw the put on them (which I liked). The steak taco was delicious. It also has rice and beans on it. Nice and grilled, tender & seasoned. 7/10 The chicken Molè is a dish my wife had i didn't taste it. She gave it a 7/10 The chili Rellenos were also delicious! The nice balanced tomato sauce went well with the dish. Solid 8/10 The taco guisado de res wasn't that good at all. The it was lacking in flavor and the beef was very tough & dry. 1/10 All in all I enjoyed the steak taco & Chili Rellenos enough to return. I've had their tamales brought by a friend and those are really good. At this dine-in visit, I got the Bistek Asado Plate. Good portions of almost everything except beans. Cabbage salad was fresh and mild which I like. The steak was terribly overcooked, dry, and a pain to chew. It's only hardly tolerable when masked in a taco with other ingredients. I LOVE this place! The food is served cafeteria style, so you get to take a look at some of the stuff before you order. My go-to is the asada plate or the asada taco. The taco is humongous, with a BIG piece of steak. You heard right, big chunks of asada like it came off of your backyard grill! I'm not a big fan of rice in my tacos, but here it hits especially when paired with the cabbage that comes on top. My biggest tip is to either eat it there, or eat it quickly if you do get the tacos. They are stuffed, which means those two fresh Milagro tortillas all the ingredients are cradled in can get soggy if you wait too long. The tamales here were okay to me, but every time I'm in the area I make it a point to stop in for a quick lunch taco. I've never had problems finding a seat, and the employees are nice, and the food comes out fast. I've only parked in the area twice, and the rest of the times I've walked over. I want to start this review by saying I have worked in the service industry for over 10 + years and come from a family where both my father and mother have had family members who have owned and run restaurants and grocery stores in the Pilsen and little village area. I visited the Milagro blue Island location on Sunday, September 7 with my mother who is 65 years old and my sister. My mother has had to undergo surgery and has a difficulty walking. This has also caused my sister and I to see her less because my mother is not as mobile after breaking a femur . That morning my sister and I went to church in the area and after we decided to visit my mom who has been a pilsen native for her entire life. My mother was very excited to visit the Milagro tortilla restaurant as we all were looking for the nostalgic homemade cooked meal feel. When we arrived. The security guard began to shove us in a direction and pushed us towards the front line without allowing us a chance to even look at the food, make a decision by looking at the menu, my sister, my mother and I were already body to body against strangers and each other as a security guard who is an African-American male, began pushing us closer and closer to the front of the line without any rhyme or reason. Mind you the the cashier was not even ready for us to be giving our order .. when the cashier who I later learned was the manager, Karla apparently ..finally waved me over to place the order. I began telling her our order for the three of us. This woman asked me to repeat myself three times in a restaurant that was not loud. Finally, I firmly and loudly I told the woman our order for the fourth time in a stern tone . where she then asked me why I had an attitude with her .. immediately my sister came to my defense and responded well ma'am my sister has just told you the order four times and you still cannot hear her and your security guard has rushed us to this line has been very rude to us And has already made our experience uncomfortable. We just would like to pay and We would like to have three waters and we would like to be sent on our merry way .. I entered the restaurant with the intention to make an Instagram or TikTok reel because I have a large social media presence on various platforms where my videos reach 25k views on average and wanted to support our Latino culture by making a video. like I said, I was in need of the old ambience that I remember from years ago, the food Was not what we imagined it to be ..my Carne Asada tacos were dry and tough, and the mole hardly came with any sauce .we left with a knot in our stomach, a little embarrassed while also just wondering what just happened and why did this unnecessarily get escalated and heated when truly our intention was to just enjoy a Mexican home-cooked meal that we later wish we hadn't even entered the establishment. This place has been around for a long time. They are the company that sells the tortillas at most grocery stores. The restaurant is small and there are tables but not for large groups. I had come on a weekend and ordered the Mexican stew taco. It was so good so I came again last night and had a taste for it. It was so tender and tasty. But they only make the stew on Saturdays. So I opted for steak tacos with everything. The steak was tender and tasty. The everything isn't cilantro and onion as sometimes there's more onions than cilantro. This has a cabbage slaw that gives the taco a little crunch and pickling taste, so good. This is our go to taco place. The burritos are nice size and filling as well. Ever since I was a kid I have been eating El Milagro corn tortillas. They are such a staple in my kitchen that I used to have them mailed to me when living on the west coast. Since moving back to Chicago I have wanted to try their taqueria; however, COVID, employment strikes, and my addiction to Rubi's on 18th has prevented me from trying them. Today was the day that I went for it, and I am glad that I did! The torta: Bread is super soft, fresh, and exactly what I want when I think torta. The crema was cool, creamy, and blended with the lettuce and meat perfectly. The lettuce and tomato were fresh and a crucial part of the sandwich. Lastly, the thin layer of steak was cooked great and seasoned well; yet, was a little underwhelming. If I ever ordered it again then I'd ask for extra meet. The burrito: The burrito on the other hand was packed full of steak! It wasn't the finally chopped arrecherra that other spots serve; rather, it was full slices of arrecherra that were grilled to perfection. The veggies were fresh, and salsas were on point. One of my favorite features of the burrito was the cheese that they used, and the amount that they used! Overall the burrito was a hit and I will definitely be ordering it again. There was a bit of a language barrier, so the server misunderstood what I asked and didn't bring beans. No worries, though - the language barrier was mine. They serve their tacos covered in slaw, not in onions and cilantro. The slaw added an interesting taste and texture. And the tacos were huge, as advertised. I'm glad I didn't get the beans, or I would have been stuffed and uncomfortable. While it was good, they have so many options I think I should have gotten more of a variety than just tacos. Tamales are great! All flavors (chicken is my favorite and the sweet ones are pretty good, but most have nuts if you have a nut allergy). I haven't had much else from there but would try it out next time I'm looking for Mexican food. I also like the location on 26th and sometimes find their tamales and food a little better. Now, Steak Plate is $10.50 before tax, and the amount of Steak is half! Today, there was barely enough to make 2 Tacos with. The first order was wrong, as I hate their cabbage. I never order such. Regardless of going round and round at the Cash register,and having some decent grasp of the Spanish language when it comes to food, I got exactly what I didn't want. The Meat was barely luke warm, too much chatter, and all the while your food just sits there like an orphan. I sent it back, and what they gave me was even worse. Nothing but tough chewy meat loaded with nerve and struggled to rip the meat apart to make 1 small taco to eat. Without a doubt the quality and quantity is not the same. Back in the day, the street vendors on Blue Island-18th were making Tacos 1000 times better than this, and for a Buck! And Beans and Rice. Big deal, that's fluff! How much does that cost them, about 20 cents a plate at most? They buy-make metric tons of it by the day. The number of Tortillas, again, about 30 Cents.
