    Close up veggie biryani.
    Kelly W.

Not impressed. I ordered samosas when waitress asked what I wanted to drink. She disappeared for over 10 minutes when I was wanting to order. There were only 2 other tables & one was a single. I was going to say never mind on getting an entree after the long wait & wish that I had. I ordered the veggie biryani & was unimpressed. Veggies were in tiny pieces & not than plentiful in ratio to the abundant rice. I used all of the sauce & was unimpressed with the flavor. My onion samosas were ok. I prefer the kind with flaky pastry. Reviews state how friendly & helpful the waitresses are. Mine was not. She offered no suggestions when I asked about the veggie biryani. I would have loved if she had suggested something else. I don't plan on returning. I will go to Dumpling King in the same strip instead.

Nut allergy warning: The green sauce has coconut and peanut in it, so avoid that. The desserts on the thali had cashews as well. I hesitated on ordering the thali and just got a normal biryani, which ended up fine with avoiding the green sauce. Preface: My Indian palette is incredibly weak, as I grew up under the notion that Indian food was more dangerous for people with nut allergies. We got here around noon and there was plenty of seating for a small party. Parking is a little harder but there is space in the back. Service was prompt, with dishes coming out of my colleagues' thali regularly. My Chicken 65 biryani took the longest. Holy moly, the portions. For $14-$16, you get enough to feed yourself for at least two meals. I can usually put away a lot of food, but even I tapped out after half of the Chicken 65 Biryani. The thali had a great variety of dishes and chutneys. The Chicken 65 Biryani had a solid amount of meat buried under a mountain of rice. There was a decent amount of heat here, which was well balanced by the yogurt sauce provided. It was a really solid value and got a thumbs up from my Indian colleague. Would come back again.

I've been to Biryani Pot many times since it was recommended by a co-worker from Hyderabad. I've never had a bad meal and always leave with leftovers that are even better the next day!

Finally got to try Biryani Pot. I was told we had to get Chilli Chicken, so we started with it. I lived up to the hype, we loved it. We then got Naan, House special chicken curry, Kadai Chicken Masala, and Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani. The 2 chicken curries were good, we loved the biryani.

One of my top 2 Indian restaurants in Houston, recommended by Indians who know their food right. Apparently as authentic as it gets. Huge menu with lots of vegetarian and non veg options, making it a versatile restaurant for big groups. The biryani was very tasty, and the cauliflower appetizer was a huge hit. I also really enjoy the lollipops and have been ordering them consistently. Prices very reasonable for the quality. And obviously, great service. Overall- 10/10.

The service was amazing! Our food was phenomenal. I love butter chicken and this was my favorite that I've tried from any restaurant. We'll absolutely be back! It was also a relaxing and cozy environment.

    Dal makhani - fake.

Biryani Pot in Houston, TX, has consistently been a disappointment. After many years , I decided to revisit this place, hoping for some improvement, but to my dismay, it is still as bad as it was before, maybe even worse. The Dal Makhani was absolutely disgusting--a total scam! They show one thing on the menu, but what you get is far from it. It's an insult to call it Dal Makhani--it neither looks nor tastes like one. The Aloo Gobi Masala was a lazy hack job--no effort put into it at all. And don't get me started on the Paneer Butter Masala! Loaded with artificial food coloring--just awful! The Chicken Biryani was meh--not the best, not terrible, just okay. It was the better of the bunch but still not as good as Nawab's. I think this restaurant tries to have too many items on their menu when they clearly can't execute them well. Better to have fewer dishes done right than a huge menu done poorly. Honestly, this place needs a reality check. They should focus on quality and authenticity instead of deceiving customers with fake photos on their menu and poorly executed dishes. Save your money and go somewhere else!

After a long long Covid gap we ventured out Biryani Pot. We reached around 5.26 pm and a board stating " closed" was staring at us, we immediately started googling and realized that the restaurant reopens at 5.30.... oof.. (sigh of relief)! Obviously being the first, the restaurant was empty, but the lady who received us was not ' open' yet, we chose the 6 seater for 4 of us and she looked quite upset... can't understand why especially when I saw even a group of 3 ppl occupying the 6 seater close by when we left ! And then we started with an order of soup and immediately the response was that there was no soup, we explained that we came all the way in the cold rainy weather especially for the soup, then she accommodated the request... but somehow there was no warm feeling overall. Food, though, did not disappoint, and the saving grace for the service was this waiter Antonio. He was cheerful and helpful. We ordered the hot and sour, and the sweet corn vegetable soup. Pipping hot, it was perfect for the cold rainy weather. The rest of the food got delayed but when it came it felt fresh, hot and tasty. Our order continued with crispy corn ( A must try if u come here), chilly panner, naan, baingan bhartha, malai khofta ( I almost licked the bowl clean ) and of course veg biryani. All that wait had us terribly famished and we devoured the dishes one after another. We had no idea that the curries came with plain rice , so we had more than enough good food to go around.

My Thaali lunch plate. Huge amount of veggie food.

Had their Thaali lunch for $12 bucks and left stuffed. I'm vegetarian and this was spicy and tasty. I'll definitely be back. Great service.

    Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani

This was like a hole in the wall place that's easily overshadowed by the shopping strip directly adjacent to it. The cuisine has a Hyderabadi twist to it which was a pleasant change from the usual south Asian food. We got the chicken dhum biryani, the house special chicken curry, chicken tikka, chicken 65, and naan. The star of the show was for sure the dhum biryani. The biryani had the perfect balance of masala and basmati rice along with the raita and salan that's usually served with Hyderabad biryani. The rating is purely on the biryani 9/10. The rest of the dishes didnt live up to the hype of the biryani and can be skipped . The chicken curry was nothing to write home about and tasted like a mixture of all the masalas. The chicken 65 seemed like it wasn't fresh, the flavor wasnt as strong as the one from agas, and the chicken was overcooked which seemed to be a big theme for all the boneless chicken dishes at the restaurant. It is worth the time to make a trip to this restaurant solely for the biryani as it truly was one of the best biryanis in Houston. I haven't gotten the other dishes like the noodles or vegetarian dishes but they looked good at other tables and seemed liked they'd be worth a try. The service was always good every time we've gone.

Fantastic Chicken Tikka Masala Meal !!!
    Michael C.

I tried this place for the first time tonight. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and it was very delicious, very rich with flavors and had a dense gravy with plenty of large chicken chunks in it. It was not too greasy, but had a thick consistency in the sauce with a slight sweetness and plenty of savory, exotic spices to it. There were plenty of green pepper chunks and onions in the sauce. The gravy also had more curry flavor in it than most places. My CTM order was a fantastic, hearty, aromatic dish that really filled me up due to both its richness and abundance. Rice even came free with it and a whole bowl of it. I will need to try the Butter Chicken next time I return here since I was pleased with the CTM. I assume from the spices and customer base of this place that the food is more authentic, which is good.

Unfortunately, our experience was quite the opposite. The first thing we noticed when we entered the restaurant was a strong, unpleasant smell. Since we had specifically gone there to try the food, we still decided to dine in. We ordered chai, Mysore masala dosa, chole bhature, and samosas. None of the dishes really stood out. The food was just average; not terrible, but definitely not worth making the drive for. The chai in particular had almost no flavor, and we couldn't even finish it. Overall, it was a disappointing experience, especially given the hype. There are many better options in the Katy/Richmond area where you can find great food in a much more pleasant dining environment. The smell inside the restaurant was also concerning, as it raises questions about hygiene and food safety standards. For context, we visited on a Saturday morning around 11:30 AM, so it wasn't late in the day or close to closing time. Based on this experience, I wouldn't prefer to visit again.

Our order included potato samosas (BOGO), the chicken 65 (BOGO), goat curry, palak paneer, and garlic naan. Be careful as the chicken 65 (mini fried chicken bites) have spiciness to it with a good amount of chili powder and pepper kicked in. The goat curry was alright, don't know if I would order it again as the grease was overwhelming. I wasn't a fan of the palak paneer, found it too runny and it was leaking when it was delivered to us. Also the garlic naan was a bit hard in the middle; maybe it's due to the packaging? Wouldn't mind ordering here again but we'll definitely do some different items. Their longevity (#1) of a near half century is nothing short of impressive, earning a nostalgic place in the hearts of many Houston diners, a good number of whom trace their first Indian cuisine experiences at this very location. While I do wish their success, it's hard not to point out minor mishaps in different aspects of the overall restaurant experience, which include: :: Awkward stares from the staff as they hover or stand in the middle of the room. It's understandable that they're monitoring to help where needed, but even then I will have to flag them down for water, napkins, or the bill. :: Buffet maintenance. They're semi-quick to replenish, but extremely slow at maintaining the cleanliness. Splatter from the daal makhani, a serving spoon not returned to the same serving tray, or even customers forgetting to close the bins at the dessert station (#2) could all be mitigated by a designated person keeping it tidy. :: Food quality. The tandoori chicken has been dry, the saag paneer could be creamier, and chicken tikka masala has had their bland days. Even the naan can be a bit too dry at times. Thankfully I've fared better with the chana masala and paneer makhani. I would also steer clear of their fruit punch. :: Decor is dark and dated. It still reminds me of a place that is stuck in time, which for most experiences are usually my favorite. The natural lighting during lunch alleviates this slightly, but the dinner hour makes this place feel like eating in an older hotel lobby. The vibes are most definitely challenging. :: Foodflation. Another price hike in the last year brings the buffet price to just under $22. While it's a nice jump from what it was previously, it does leave me wishing for more, especially when the prices keep climbing. ___________ (#1) 46 years. The inside isn't giant -- on the smaller side, with a lot of tables packed in, plus a couple of larger ones for bigger parties. Pro Tip: The spice level is was Medium/low, so if you are expecting some very spicy dishes you need to ask for them. Frontier Beef Karhai, $19.50 -- 3.5/5. Himalayan fried chicken, $24.99 -- 4.5/5. Nice crispy batter, prepared a little differently than you're used to. It's skinless, bone-on chicken that's been filleted off the bone a bit, so instead of a plain drumstick, it's more like a filleted drumstick, with the breast filleted off, with a little bone left on to hold it together. The chicken was super tender and moist and the batter was crunchy. There's a bit of an Indian flavor profile, but not overwhelming -- I was actually hoping for a little more spice, kick, and heat. Still, very good chicken, and I'd try it again. Rice, 3.5/5. Solid side, but nothing spectacular. I've had much better. Garlic naan, $9 -- 3.5/5. Solid, big piece of naan. Would get it again. Service was quick. The food took a little while to come out, mostly because of the fried chicken -- though we ordered that right when we sat down, then ordered the rest about ten minutes later as we looked over the menu. If you've lived in Houston all your life, I highly suggest giving this place a try. It's one of those Houston staples that's been around, and some of the things they do are really good and a little different. That said, from a value perspective I think a place like Aga's outshines them just slightly. I've had many of the same curries at Aga's and find them a touch better, and a slightly better value. In the end, it's a totally fine place for takeout or to sit down and eat give it a try. Would recommend, and would return.

They are absolutely great when they come straight out of the tandoor oven, but I found that they get a little too hard if not eaten quickly. I'm sure they would reheat really well. We also tried the spicy rocket naan and it decent. I would just stick with garlic and butter. The only miss for me was the Mutton Biryani. Don't get me wrong, it's a solid biryani dish, but I've had better that had a little bit more flavor. The mutton was very tender, but the opportunity was making the rice a little bit less clunky. I see a lot of reviews with people hating on things like service or area. Let me just say we had no issues with service. The service was top-notch. We spent $222 with tip across three people. A little pricey but totally worth it.
