So I chose to order a delivery from this restaurant today, and not only it took 1.5 hours for them to send but also had one dish completely missing while they charged for the entire order. I always come here for the lunch special! I keep telling myself I'm going to try something new but once I get here and see how good the deal is and how much variety I get on the plate I always end up ordering it again. The lunch special comes either non-vegetarian or vegetarian and then mild or spicy. It comes with a bowl of biryani (rice with meat) 2 sauces, naan, and 3 other things which I have no idea what they are but they all taste good together! Disclaimer: review is from non - hyderabadi tastebuds. Everyone I talked to in this restaurant raved about its authenticity. But since I'm not familiar with their cousine, some things just didn't sit right with me. Parking is atrocious. But there is additional parking in the rear of the building. I ordered my food while I waited for a table so that did move things along faster. For app I got the chicken pakodas which were long skinny strip of chicken dipped in a spicy/herby batter n fried. I found the concoction to be very salty. Almost made me sad that I left half of the $8.99 app uneaten. For entrée I ordered the Hyderabadi Chicken murgh masala. It's a mild curry with a heavy onion base and very creamy. And a healthy portion if I might add. The chicken was the softest butteriest chicken I have ever eaten. The naan presented was skinny but delicious. Again, this is where the cultural difference comes into play. In Pakistan the naan is thick so it just comes down to personal preference. Not saying it wasn't good, I just prefer thick naan to soak up curries with and break meats with. From the level of walk -in traffic it's evident that this place is good consistently since most of the customers there were returning patrons. The garlic naan is everything. I ordered the heavenly goat and I was expecting great things from reading the reviews and it was just ok for me. The chicken #65 was so delish though! We also got the chicken biryani and it was good when I drenched it with the brown sauce that it comes with (sorry I don't know the name. There was a white sauce as well but it was kinda flavorless) The service was really great. I've been to several Indian restaurants around town, and if you take out the staff, and the food, you can't tell visually that it's an Indian restaurant. Here the decorations and the music gives you the whole Indian experience. 4. Food - My first time here, I had the Non-Vegetarian Lunch Special. You can choose for chicken or goat meat. And you can also select your level of spiciness, mild, medium, or hot. I had medium and chose Chicken. It was a bit spicier than I've intended, so whatever spice you think you are, bring it down a notch when ordering. It comes in a tray as you would in high school. SO MUCH YUM. Okay, so I am not a big eater of Indian/middle eastern food, but this place was amazing. So at first I didn't know what to order, so thank God that I was eating with a friend who knows his way around Indian food. During crowded/peak times, you go inside and the lady at the front hands you a menu and takes your order. Then you sit down in the chairs at the front of the store, and when a group of people leave they clean the table and you go sit there and your food comes out! I think the timing of doing this is good, but it is slightly awkward to have to do it this way, ex: if people don't leave fast enough and you wait for 20 minutes etc. So my friend and I ordered chicken biriyani, chicken tikka masala, and garlic naan. Chicken biriyani (4/5): I really liked the rice. The rice was delicious. It comes with a sauce to put on it and also some onion and a wedge of lime. The chicken was okay, I don't care much for bone in chicken, and the spices on it wasn't my favorite, but the biriyaniiiiiii. Chicken tikka masala (4/5): I liked this a lot, creamy, tomatoey goodness. The chicken was tender! It was overly spicy for my tastes but maybe that's how this dish is supposed to be? Garlic naan (5/5): OMG SO GOOOOOODDDD. I wanted to order more but I was so full! The garlic definitely makes the naan. The bread is slightly charred and the garlic gives it so much flavor. I know the naan is supposed to be use as a tool to eat your food, but I liked this naan so much by itself that I didn't use it to eat the other stuff. If you order naan you have to get the garlic one. The dishes came with a yogurt raita, which was thin for my tastes but I definitely needed it to cool off. All of these dishes tasted so good mixed together! The biriyani is a bit dry on its own so it's good that we ordered the tikka masala too. These three dishes were plenty for me and my friend, coming out to a total of ~$24. On weekdays they have a lunch special that comes with naan, biriyani, two curries and some other garnishes for $9 I think? I'm definitely going to try that next time I come. Bottom line, this place is delicious. For not being a big eater of Indian food, I'd come here maybe once a week/every other. I'd eat the naan every day if I could. Moderate prices (in my opinion). The store is a bit dirty but that's because there are so many people going in and out that they don't have much time to sweep probably. I'm surprised this hasn't been mentioned yet, but the Biryani Pot team worked around the clock to help cook hot food for displaced people at George R Brown immediately following Harvey. It's worth a 5 star Yelp review just to say this. A day or two after the shelter at George R Brown had opened, we went to drop off some donated supplies. The rain was still coming down and a police officer was stationed on the street behind the center to direct traffic. The Biryani Pot truck was a few cars ahead of us, and we watched as they hopped out of the truck to deliver a hot meal to the drenched police officer. The truck was undoubtedly full of more meals just like that for the folks who found themselves staying at the shelter. We went for lunch a week or two after the hurricane and mentioned it to our waiter, who refused to accept a cash donation - said they were just doing what felt right. (We ended up leaving a fat tip.) We also asked if the truck that had left the parking lot as we pulled in was headed to GRB, and he said yes. I'm no expert on Indian food, but it's pretty tasty to me. Strolled in on a Friday afternoon to try the biryani. The place was packed at 1:30pm but we were seated in about 15 minutes. The restaurant is relatively small but well decorated. I opted for the lunch special and my dining partner opted for the goat biryani entree portion. The $8.99 for the meat lunch special seemed like a good deal and came with a chicken biriyani, a chicken tikka masala, some channa, and a salad/dessert. The value was great for the lunch special since you get to try a lot of items but the quality was just ok. The service was also a little off since my friend ordered the entree but a regular lunch special came out. The only downside about the lunch special is the items are fixed so you can't pick what you want. They quickly corrected the order and we finally had our food. I'm giving Biryani Pot a 4 instead of 5 because this was my first Indian Food experience so I don't have anything to compare it to. HOWEVER I LOVED IT!!! It was so good. I finally decided to give this place a try after seeing it so many times. Last night, I ordered the butter chicken w/ the garlic basil naan. The food was pretty decent but I felt the need to mention that my stomach has been messed up ever since. I had been fine all day up until then and it's still hurting now. After 20 min of waiting the owner said "5 more minutes" again. It is now 7:10 and I have not received my order. And when I talked to the guy again he said "can't you see we are very busy. You will get your food when it's ready". First don't lie to me and say "5 min" and make me wait 30 min and then when I ask you to tell me the truth of my wait time. This is a rather popular spot for fans of authentic Hyderabadi Biryani but generally speaking, their food is more of the average variety for me. I've had the most exposure on their menu to the Indo-Chinese items and while they are flavorful, I have had more delicious dishes from this cuisine elsewhere. Portions are not bad but not great either in terms of value for your dollar. The Biryani is as advertised -- easily their specialty but not spectacular enough to make this a restaurant worth many repeat visits. Their goat chops weren't very memorable either despite carrying a high price point. Overall, it's a semi-decent spot for Indo-Chinese food and even more so, Hyderabadi Biryani. But it's not much more than that either, which means it's best to visit here with expectations held in check. read more

Chicken Biryani is nothing close to impressive, it taste very plain and come with way too much onion, white rice. Chicken is full of flavor though. I tried my pakistani friend's mom's home-cooked biryani, so I know what a good tasty authentic biryani should be, if you grow up with real desi food, you won't enjoy this dish. Kadai Goat: I saw yelpers said they are good at goat dish and it was true. Goat meat is flavorful and delicious, gravy is tasty as well. I'm from Sichuan so I can handle spicy, I request them to make my dish double spicy, the dish comes with kick but not Indian level spicy. I am also surprised they charge for very bleh naan and roti when most good desi restaurant provide fresh naan for free. Service was ok, there's one very sloppy waiter though, he served our biryani with his thumb in the rice! Oh my god it was grose!! This place delivers on food, but the service could definitely be improved. I've been here a few times and I've tried quite a few things, but my go-to orders here are egg biryani and malai kofta. The biryani is flavored extremely well and this place serves the creamiest malai kofta in town. Also, if you are going here to eat any of their special biryanis, make sure to go at least one hour after they open as they probably are still making it. This restaurant is very good, I have eaten here about 5-6 times when visiting Houston (in 2012, 2015 and 2017). I've lived in India for three years now and I've tried veg Biryani in Hyderabad and in Bangalore. I personally like the veg biryani at Biryani Pot better than the biryani I've had in India. For reference, in Bangalore I've tried Paradise Biryani and Meghana's. I also tried another restaurant in Hyderabad that my husband's uncle said was "the best." I accept that the biryani I tried in Hyderabad was takeout and could have been sitting around, but it just wasn't spicy enough for me. I didn't think that Paradise was spicy enough either, and Meghana's was very spicy but not as flavourful as Biryani Pot. I usually order the vegetarian biryani meal at Biryani pot (it's a lunch special). Every time I've eaten at Biryani pot, the biryani has been really flavorful and perfectly spiced. All of the other sabzis have been excellent as well. I have been to Biryani Pot numerous times for lunch, once for dinner, and most recently, for takeout. Going to most non-fancy Indian restaurants, I know not to expect good service going in as it is usually average to sometimes downright terrible. Biryani Pot does not have good service, as they are always crowded during lunch on weekdays and dinner on weekends. But the food is usually pretty good with some misses once in a while. On my most recent experience with takeout from here, I would say the food was average at best. We ordered malai kofta, palak paneer, and paneer tikka masala. The malai kofta sauce was absolutely delicious! Creamy and savory, it hit the spot. The kofta....not so much. It was way too mushy and it seemed like it wasn't even cooked enough. The palak paneer lacked flavor and spice, which makes it pretty dull when it's just spinach and paneer to begin with. The paneer tikka masala was the biggest disappointment of all. It was entirely bland. It just tasted like bland tomato sauce with some onions, bell peppers, and paneer thrown into it. Not good. Despite the bad experience, I'm willing to give Biryani Pot a 3 stars to give them the benefit of the doubt. I've eaten here many times before and it was pretty good, but they really need to work on consistency. read more

After visits and visits, bringing friend after friend here, one artist friend took the reigns and ordered raita, a yogurt sauce to go with the Now it is possible to enjoy their insanely delicious goat saagwala and chili paneer, as long as this raita is sampled between bites of fire. My personal favorite dish is the Chili Paneer, technically an appetizer but it's incredible.
