I am so sorry to leave this bad review - the owners seem very nice. But honestly this is the worst Indian food I've ever had and is a complete dump. The neighboring businesses yell at you if you park in front of them in unmarked spaces. The food was so bad. Bland palak paneer, overly spicy tandoori chicken, and the butter chicken tastes exactly like canned tomato soup and not in a good way. We couldn't stomach any of the food. Very few customers on a Saturday at lunch so everyone must know it's bad. I feel bad for them I hope they find new cooks and pay for a redesign or at least a paint job. read more

I came here on a Thursday evening with family for the dinner buffet and they had a limited selection with mainly Chinese-Indian dishes. I found out later that Thursdays are apparently when they have the Chinese buffet? The fried rice and chow mein were just okay to me but I did like the mixed vegetable dish and the egg drop soup. The chai was good and I also enjoyed the rice pudding for dessert. If you like Chinese-Indian food, the Thursday buffet might be worth a try. I came in not knowing about it so I was a bit disappointed since I was expecting more Indian/South Asian food. The service was friendly and the atmosphere was casual and lively. It seems like the Thursday Chinese buffet is really popular because it was packed when I came. If you're trying to go for dinner it might be good to call ahead. I love this restaurant. It has a fancy vibe inside. The food is the best north Indian food I've ever had. My family used to come here all the time when I was younger. The location is a little ghetto and the bathroom is probably the worst one I've seen in America. And sometimes they have parties going on inside the hall which you can hear while sitting in the restaurant. I always get butter chicken, palak paneer, rice, naan, tandoori chicken, and gulab jammun. This restaurant has the best mutton/chicken biriyani in town. I even like their spinach paneer. I love their fish curries. Whenever I go to an Indian restaurant, they always disappoint me, because most of them offer either Punjabi or South Indian style dishes, which I find too much spices (not talking about hot spices) which kills the authentic flavor of the dish! I like dishes from East part of India, which is the best in India of course! Even I threw parties in here a couple of times, and people really liked the food. Also, this restaurant is not too expensive like other typical Indian restaurants where money goes to the trash! This is definitely money's worth! I chose this place because of the entertainment book coupon. The guy said he wasn't the owner when the coupon was made, so the coupon isn't valid. Does that matter? You'd rather have no sales than at least have some money and honor a coupon? The next room was full of people and someone on stage. I asked if there was a wedding reception, and he abruptly said, "No, it's a singer." The guy also made it a point to say, "Well at least I let you know before you placed the order." BEST Indian restaurant in Houston! Their lunch buffet is absolutely amazing and is loaded with all of the staples! Their Saag Paneer is the closest to homecooked I have ever had. They also have amazing Naan and Tandoori Chicken (baked in a true Tandoori oven). The staff is super friendly and welcoming! You can tell Mohammad really cares about the restaurant and his food. We went today during their lunch buffet and we both enjoyed it and found plenty to eat : ) I could live of the Sag Paneer and my husband liked the chicken dishes. The fresh bread was also very good as was the service. If I had to make one tiny suggestion, it would be for a salad dressing for the fresh salad. Maybe a yogurt based one? This was my first time visiting this fine establishment. I tried their reasonably priced lunch buffet this afternoon . I've never eaten at a sole Indian restaurant. I must say the food was absolutely delish. The fried onions, chicken curry, and butter chicken were excellent . The cheese spinach was a bit cold, although it was still tasty. I sampled everything except for the goat.. The vegetable roll was my favorite. The vegetable roll was similar to a Chinese egg roll, with a dash of Indian spice.. Literally ... They brought flat bread and grilled chicken out to the table as part of the buffet which was also excellent.. Sorry I don't know the authentic names of these dishes. Few months ago I ordered 30 naan to go from this restaurant. I placed my order the morning of and they had it ready on time. One gentleman even assisted me placing the trays in my car. Overall, it was a good experience. This past weekend, I wanted to place another order for 30 naan. The man on the phone refused to take to order until one hour before I needed to pick it up. This was for a big party so I needed to know 100% I would get my naan on time. I called back and again, he yelled at me that he would not take my order until 5pm. I hung up the phone and took my business elsewhere. Very disappointed in the customer service of the restaurant. I will not be back....It's sad because I actually liked their naan. read more

Fantastic place! It was our first time and we were welcomed nicely. We went for their lunch buffet. The place is outdated, but don't mind that, the food speaks for itself. The buffet is somewhat small, but each dish is yummy that the selections fit just fine. Sizzling tandoori chicken on top of onions came to our table along with naan instead of on the buffet, which was so flavorful and we appreciated that it was hot. The baked fish was also delicious. Now this was for an evening baby shower for 200+ guests! I have never had Indian food before and I must say that it was pretty good. The only thing that I ate and knew what it was..Tandori Chicken (because other people told me haha). The rest was like rice and potatoes and lentils...and different sauces. It's a great buffet place with a Bengali touch in it's dishes! The fish fry was heavenly! Tengri kabob was the best I have had in Houston. The rice reminded of proper ghee bhat of vai phota occassion! This place is just too good if you miss Bengal! read more

My mother and I decided to try this place out for the lunch buffet today. The buffet selections are very limited and it appears that once something runs out, they do not replenish it. We got there with almost 2 hrs left in the buffet time, but there were only 2 pieces of the fried fish nuggets left. Although we both enjoyed the fish, it was never refilled after those two pieces were gone. The saag paneer is usually my favorite at Indian restaurants, but the one here was virtually inedible due to how much cream was in it. The sizzling tandoori chicken that was brought out to the table was impressive until we realized that both pieces were undercooked and bloody in the middle. The guy we informed about the chicken did offer to have another one made for us, but at that point both of us had lost our appetites. The gulab jamun they brought us for dessert was surprisingly good. Overall, I would not recommend this restaurant, especially in am area where there are plenty of quality Indo/Pakistani restaurants. read more

Maharajah is an excellent place to grab lunch. They have a buffet with vegetarian and meat options. The saag paneer and fresh cardamom rice are always good. Two people will pay about 20 bucks. You get naan and tandoori chicken with your meal. I will say that the quality and service lost a few points when the restaurant changed owners. First the good things. Authentic Indian gaudy but great ambience :). Food was fresh. Lot of variety. And servers were generally attentive. However, we had a couple of servers who weren't attentive and we has to keep waiting for them to turn up. Another annoying thing is, each time they serve, they give you tiny quantities. It would be nice to have them ask if the diners want some more, so we don't have to keep asking for more again and again. Went to this place for lunch recently. The place was virtually empty...which was kind of scary. But the service was fine, the food (lunch buffet) was fine. Perhaps the location is the problem, it's in a small shopping center on the East side of HWY 6, just south of Westpark (and Walmart). This place has one of the best buffets in town! It was pretty empty on a Sunday afternoon so we were hesistant to try it but everything tasted fresh. All the dishes were flavorful and the spice level was right on. The best thing for me is that they bring out hot fluffy naan and tandoori chicken to the table so its not sitting drying out under the buffet lamps. My family has been eating at this restaurant since I was about 12. I'm now 37 and we're still going! It used to be over at bissonnett and 59 but their new location is much nicer. Muhammad Ali (no kidding!) is absolutely the kindest and most hospitable host! He's seen all our children grow up and treats all our family and friends as his own. Fresh Naan and Tandoori chicken brought to the table when possible, the food is always impeccable and absolutely the most delicious of all curry restaurants in Houston (and brother, there is a few!). NEVER BOOK THIS RESTAURANT FOR PARTY...THE OWNER IS A CHEATER!!! Totally disappointed!!!! I felt like being cheated by the owner having a party here!! We booked for the party in 1 month advance notice, we rented the whole party hall for $200, talked about the menus and all other stuff, and when the day came, we saw half of the party hall was stuffed with other broken chairs, tables and their stuff!! Only few chairs were given in the center of the room, and that's it!! It was a birthday for a kid, so we had lots of decorating stuff, but couldn't do that much,as we couldn't even reach the walls, due to their old stuffs stacked over the walls!!!! After paying for the whole party room, we got only a corner to use for our party, because, they said, "WE HAVE ANOTHER PARTY AT EVENING, SO CAN NOT GIVE YOU MORE THAN THIS PLACE"!!!! What a **** !!!!! We talked about samosa for snacks, and we got something else which we never talked about or liked ll!! They even didn't bother to tell us about this menu change!! To save electricity, THEY DID NOT TURN ON THE LIGHTS, EXCEPT THE LIGHT ON THE STAGE!! OUR GUESTS HAD TO SIT AND EAT FOOD IN THE DARK!!!!!! We discussed in advance that they will provide the snacks in two big trays in the party hall for our guests to start, and they will refill it as needed. We found the same thing when we visited this place before for our friends bday party, so we expected the same for us too, as we are paying the same! But on the party day, the Manager/Owner said he can only serve snacks in plates to the table and cannot refill more!!!!!! The amount was not enough at all for our guests, so in every 5 minutes, I had to leave my guests and had to go to the kitchen asking for more snacks PLEASE!!! There were no plates provided though they said everything will be provided!!! I had to request for each and everything, and AS A RESULT, I COULDN'T SPEND TIME WITH MY KID ON HIS BIRTHDAY, COULDN'T SPEND TIME WITH GUESTS AND THEY OF COURSE DID NOT FEEL WELL TO BE TREATED LIKE THAT!!!!
