Close up veggie biryani.
Kelly W.

Not impressed. I ordered samosas when waitress asked what I wanted to drink. She disappeared for over 10 minutes when I was wanting to order. There were only 2 other tables & one was a single. I was going to say never mind on getting an entree after the long wait & wish that I had. I ordered the veggie biryani & was unimpressed. Veggies were in tiny pieces & not than plentiful in ratio to the abundant rice. I used all of the sauce & was unimpressed with the flavor. My onion samosas were ok. I prefer the kind with flaky pastry. Reviews state how friendly & helpful the waitresses are. Mine was not. She offered no suggestions when I asked about the veggie biryani. I would have loved if she had suggested something else. I don't plan on returning. I will go to Dumpling King in the same strip instead.

Nut allergy warning: The green sauce has coconut and peanut in it, so avoid that. The desserts on the thali had cashews as well. I hesitated on ordering the thali and just got a normal biryani, which ended up fine with avoiding the green sauce. Preface: My Indian palette is incredibly weak, as I grew up under the notion that Indian food was more dangerous for people with nut allergies. We got here around noon and there was plenty of seating for a small party. Parking is a little harder but there is space in the back. Service was prompt, with dishes coming out of my colleagues' thali regularly. My Chicken 65 biryani took the longest. Holy moly, the portions. For $14-$16, you get enough to feed yourself for at least two meals. I can usually put away a lot of food, but even I tapped out after half of the Chicken 65 Biryani. The thali had a great variety of dishes and chutneys. The Chicken 65 Biryani had a solid amount of meat buried under a mountain of rice. There was a decent amount of heat here, which was well balanced by the yogurt sauce provided. It was a really solid value and got a thumbs up from my Indian colleague. Would come back again.

I've been to Biryani Pot many times since it was recommended by a co-worker from Hyderabad. I've never had a bad meal and always leave with leftovers that are even better the next day!

Finally got to try Biryani Pot. I was told we had to get Chilli Chicken, so we started with it. I lived up to the hype, we loved it. We then got Naan, House special chicken curry, Kadai Chicken Masala, and Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani. The 2 chicken curries were good, we loved the biryani.

One of my top 2 Indian restaurants in Houston, recommended by Indians who know their food right. Apparently as authentic as it gets. Huge menu with lots of vegetarian and non veg options, making it a versatile restaurant for big groups. The biryani was very tasty, and the cauliflower appetizer was a huge hit. I also really enjoy the lollipops and have been ordering them consistently. Prices very reasonable for the quality. And obviously, great service. Overall- 10/10.

The service was amazing! Our food was phenomenal. I love butter chicken and this was my favorite that I've tried from any restaurant. We'll absolutely be back! It was also a relaxing and cozy environment.

Dal makhani - fake.
A G.

Biryani Pot in Houston, TX, has consistently been a disappointment. After many years , I decided to revisit this place, hoping for some improvement, but to my dismay, it is still as bad as it was before, maybe even worse. The Dal Makhani was absolutely disgusting--a total scam! They show one thing on the menu, but what you get is far from it. It's an insult to call it Dal Makhani--it neither looks nor tastes like one. The Aloo Gobi Masala was a lazy hack job--no effort put into it at all. And don't get me started on the Paneer Butter Masala! Loaded with artificial food coloring--just awful! The Chicken Biryani was meh--not the best, not terrible, just okay. It was the better of the bunch but still not as good as Nawab's. I think this restaurant tries to have too many items on their menu when they clearly can't execute them well. Better to have fewer dishes done right than a huge menu done poorly. Honestly, this place needs a reality check. They should focus on quality and authenticity instead of deceiving customers with fake photos on their menu and poorly executed dishes. Save your money and go somewhere else!

After a long long Covid gap we ventured out Biryani Pot. We reached around 5.26 pm and a board stating " closed" was staring at us, we immediately started googling and realized that the restaurant reopens at 5.30.... oof.. (sigh of relief)! Obviously being the first, the restaurant was empty, but the lady who received us was not ' open' yet, we chose the 6 seater for 4 of us and she looked quite upset... can't understand why especially when I saw even a group of 3 ppl occupying the 6 seater close by when we left ! And then we started with an order of soup and immediately the response was that there was no soup, we explained that we came all the way in the cold rainy weather especially for the soup, then she accommodated the request... but somehow there was no warm feeling overall. Food, though, did not disappoint, and the saving grace for the service was this waiter Antonio. He was cheerful and helpful. We ordered the hot and sour, and the sweet corn vegetable soup. Pipping hot, it was perfect for the cold rainy weather. The rest of the food got delayed but when it came it felt fresh, hot and tasty. Our order continued with crispy corn ( A must try if u come here), chilly panner, naan, baingan bhartha, malai khofta ( I almost licked the bowl clean ) and of course veg biryani. All that wait had us terribly famished and we devoured the dishes one after another. We had no idea that the curries came with plain rice , so we had more than enough good food to go around.

My Thaali lunch plate. Huge amount of veggie food.

Had their Thaali lunch for $12 bucks and left stuffed. I'm vegetarian and this was spicy and tasty. I'll definitely be back. Great service.

Hyderabadi Chicken Dum Biryani

This was like a hole in the wall place that's easily overshadowed by the shopping strip directly adjacent to it. The cuisine has a Hyderabadi twist to it which was a pleasant change from the usual south Asian food. We got the chicken dhum biryani, the house special chicken curry, chicken tikka, chicken 65, and naan. The star of the show was for sure the dhum biryani. The biryani had the perfect balance of masala and basmati rice along with the raita and salan that's usually served with Hyderabad biryani. The rating is purely on the biryani 9/10. The rest of the dishes didnt live up to the hype of the biryani and can be skipped . The chicken curry was nothing to write home about and tasted like a mixture of all the masalas. The chicken 65 seemed like it wasn't fresh, the flavor wasnt as strong as the one from agas, and the chicken was overcooked which seemed to be a big theme for all the boneless chicken dishes at the restaurant. It is worth the time to make a trip to this restaurant solely for the biryani as it truly was one of the best biryanis in Houston. I haven't gotten the other dishes like the noodles or vegetarian dishes but they looked good at other tables and seemed liked they'd be worth a try. The service was always good every time we've gone.

Fantastic Chicken Tikka Masala Meal !!!
Michael C.

I tried this place for the first time tonight. I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala and it was very delicious, very rich with flavors and had a dense gravy with plenty of large chicken chunks in it. It was not too greasy, but had a thick consistency in the sauce with a slight sweetness and plenty of savory, exotic spices to it. There were plenty of green pepper chunks and onions in the sauce. The gravy also had more curry flavor in it than most places. My CTM order was a fantastic, hearty, aromatic dish that really filled me up due to both its richness and abundance. Rice even came free with it and a whole bowl of it. I will need to try the Butter Chicken next time I return here since I was pleased with the CTM. I assume from the spices and customer base of this place that the food is more authentic, which is good.

We tried the turkey, brisket, and jalapeño sausage, and every one of them was delicious. The brisket was especially impressive--moist, incredibly tender, and so soft you didn't even need a knife to cut it. The sides were very good, but the meats were definitely the highlight of the meal. One thing we really appreciated was the toppings bar, which included pickles, onions, pickled onions, jalapeños, and two different barbecue sauces so you could customize each bite. They even had a mini soft-serve ice cream machine for a little dessert after your meal, which was a nice touch. They also offer family meal options, making it a great choice for larger groups. The restaurant was clean, had plenty of seating, and the staff was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. If you're looking for excellent halal barbecue in the Houston area, Levant is definitely worth a visit!

The soccer ball was photogenic but it should be both with the level of sophistication in taste they acquire in their craft. It was reminiscent of a Cadbury egg. Just the peaches and the chocolate were unimpressive and not complimentary of each other. The tuna papad was amazing. Some subtle hints of aromatic Indian flavors and and sweetness. The contrast of crisp and soft and presented well. That's how I expected each dish. The rizala was creamy but not exciting with bold flavors like I was hoping. The lamb was inconsistent. One of them was tough and texture/taste off. The rest were tender but not flavorful enough in seasoning. Tried a new naan. Nimbu it was ok but too thin for naan and the lemon essence didn't really spread well across. Mango pina colada was nice. Quite disappointing for $220 though. Possible I just ordered terribly. The chef tasting menu didn't look appetizing or sound very Indian so I ordered à la cart.

We ain't in Queens anymore…read more For years, I've eaten on Shah's all around the borough, initially out in Ozone Park and Briarwood before finding a real audience in Sunnyside. Now that they've sufficiently blown up around NYC, I was a bit shocked (and excited) to see them finally come to H-Town. What's the verdict? It's good enough to pass muster for NY standards (#1), is open super late, and will likely be my go-to Halal food for the foreseeable future. Since I've only had it in cart form, I'm still a buggin over the fact it's become a franchise. It's similar to my shock of eating Halal Guys at a store for the first time. The digs feel as foreign (prices, large, clean and bright interior) as it does familiar (taste, logo, etc.). Even though I had a laugh seeing the wall photo-mural of a Shah's cart in Times Square, I did appreciate the nod to Ozone Park with the 121st & Liberty street signs. The chicken + lamb combo platter ($12) is and always will be the winner. The lamb had the same kind of seasoning that most Halal spots out here try to replicate but can never get right. The rice was fluffy, and the white sauce was easily the highlight. I can understand why they've decided to bottle it up and sell it as liquid gold. It makes every meal better. Kofta ($12) and chapli ($13) are rarely my favorites, but I knew I had both in platter form. The addition of adding chickpeas and these other salads is not something I'm used to from the carts (#2) but I loved the fact it was drowned in the white sauce with a dash of hot sauce. The latter is supposedly extremely hot, but I didn't find it that spicy. While I have to say the cheeseburger was a bit of a disappointment (overly bready, thin patty), the pakora chips and french fries were fabulous. They were perfectly seasoned, had a nice crisp, and frankly would be an excellent, gut-busting addition to any platter. I don't love the extra charge, but I hope they remain consistent with it. This store location in Westchase along Westheimer is an up and coming part of town. There are numerous Middle Eastern businesses in the adjacent area, along with an abundance of parking spots and a good amount of late night activity. Service was friendly but I do hope they keep their standards up. As time goes on, I'm 100% convinced this will be a destination for the many late night meal seekers and fans of NY nostaligia. __________ (#1) Which automatically supersedes a lot of the ones here in Houston. Just keeping it real. (#2) Is the chickpeas a Houston thing? Genuinely curious.

We were provided menus and started ordering everything that sounded good (within reason for 2, sorta). We ended up getting the Uyghur polo with lamb shank, Uyghur goshnaan, korma chop, garlic cucumbers, mint tea, and a yogurt for dessert. This was more than enough food for 2 but I wanted to try a bunch and this is me holding back. The Uyghur goshnaan was very crispy and the filling was flavorful and juicy, good lamb flavor and nice spices. The Uyghur polo with lamb shank was great and the pilaf had a nice sweetness with raisins that cut through some of the fatty richness of the lamb. The korma chop was also super flavorful with a nice savory sauce and noodled with an excellent texture, very QQ. I don't usually order cucumbers at Asian restaurants cause I can make a cucumber salad pretty easily at home but the one here was very good. Excellent refreshing crunch and garlic flavor to go with all the other dishes. The mint tea was also nice to wash down the mountains of food I was inhaling. I also enjoyed the yogurt, it's a thicker yogurt like a Greek yogurt and topped with honey and raisins. Again, a nice sweet/tart treat that didn't feel too heavy after everything else. I definitely need to come back as I didn't even get my big plate chicken but it'll be hard to choose between all the options. I noticed they now advertise 50 flavors, and the specials have changed as well. Unfortunately, just my luck, my usual flavor, Spicy Lemon Pepper BBQ, is no longer on the menu. I decided to try Spicy Lemon Pepper Honey instead, and it was actually really good. I'd definitely order that flavor again. My friend ordered the same flavor, but her order only came out as regular Spicy Lemon Pepper, so she was understandably disappointed with that mix-up. I also ordered two separate 6-count wing orders ($10.99 each) and was only given one ranch sauce. Mind you, these weren't part of a wing special. If I had ordered a 12-count with two flavors, I would've understood, but ordering two separate 6-counts made me assume we'd each get our own sauce. Maybe I should've been more specific, but honestly, I didn't think that would be necessary. The other odd part of the experience was requesting the wings to be fried hard. The cook came out from the back three separate times to confirm that's what I wanted and kept emphasizing that it would take 20 minutes. I was a little confused because, yes, that's exactly how I ordered them, and I was perfectly fine waiting since I'm paying for the food. I even asked how long they normally cook them because all the repeated confirmations started making me concerned. The reason I requested them fried hard in the first place was because during a previous visit, the wings were soft and borderline undercooked. Overall, the wings were good this time around, but the multiple service hiccups made the experience a little frustrating. I'd probably come back, but maybe on a Wednesday for the .99 special because there are other places in Houston with better wing deals at this price point. The food has potential, especially with all the flavor options, but consistency and attention to detail could definitely be improved.
