I went with a couple friends and we had the Penne alla Vodka, Bucatini al Ragu di Carne, the Gnocchi di Ricotta, and the Tiramisu. The vodka sauce of the penne was lighter than expected but the flavors were otherwise good. The Bucatini had a very solid, satisfying, and meaty flavor and we agreed it was the best of the three. The Gnocchi was wonderful except I found the sauce too acidic and my friends found it too creamy. I don't think they let the tiramisu sit long enough for the rich flavors to diffuse throughout the dish, it was more creamy than anything else but my friends thought it was pretty good. Overall a better than decent Italian restaurant in flavor but a little expensive for what you get. I'd give a 3.5 if possible. Side note: The olive spread is excellent; it's a pity the bread wasn't warm. read more

I was looking for a place to go to when visiting family in Gaithersburg that wasn't fast food or sandwiches. A simple meal of protein and vegetables that was healthy and not a wallet breaker. Wow, this place has fantastic food. So well hidden in the plainest of strip malls. The chef here is fantastic, the servers are efficient, friendly but not intrusive. Highlights: -Tilapia, not previously frozen, lightly lemoned and I'd guess pan-fried because of the delicious slightly-crunchy edge of lemon. -Manicotti, perfectly executed with a sauce and filling that was light and flavorful. I don't make my own pasta, but I do believe they do. -Chicken parmesan, juicy and crunchy and wonderful topping. -Olive tapenade spread for the bread The 10 year old child with us seems to subsist on candy. Imagine our surprise to see her eagerly finish a dish of Tilapia and a bowl of minestrone. read more

Biscotti is a neighborhood treat. Tucked away into the Red Mill Shopping Center, it offers extremely reasonable and quality Italian food. Visited for first time Wednesday and found the ambiance charming,especially in light of it's strip mall location. Service was to my liking with a typical neighborhood Italian menu. The prices seemed reasonable with an half carafe of Chianti $14 and a house salad around $4. The mussels in white wine had a nice garlicky taste and were under $10. I've tried this place a few of times. I've never dined in, I've only had carryout. So far I've been very happy with the food and I'm a pretty picky eater. What I've tried: - Calamari Fritti: I know I've tried it but I honestly cannot remember a thing about it, which I think is indicative that it was probably not very remarkable. I'm a huge fan of good calamari so if it had been exceptional it would have made a lasting impression with me. - Pollo Limone: Loved it. The combination of butter and lemon juice was perfection. The chicken breast was perfectly cooked and tender and juicy. I ordered mine with spaghetti as the side but you can also get some type of vegetable medley. - Pollo Marsala: Again, Loved it. Not too sweet like I've had some places nor was the Marsala taste overpowering (like it was when I tried to cook this dish myself). Again the chicken breast was cooked perfectly. There is nothing worse than a dry or rubbery chicken breast. I think most restaurants think if the chicken is drenched in sauce no one will be able tell it's dry or overcooked. I can tell, so I really appreciate a restaurant that cooks their meat right. - Pepperoni pizza. Not bad but definitely not a stand out. I've had better. I suggest not wasting your time with the pizza. This place makes really delicious gourmet Italian dishes, so stick with those. - Torta Di Carota: Cinnamon spice carrot cake with cream cheese frosting. It was very yummy. I'm typically not big on sweets so even one slice was too much sugar for me in one sitting. I had a few bites then put it in the fridge for later. It tasted good the next day. read more

My boyfriend and I stayed in Gaithersburg this past weekend to do some sightseeing in DC and he found this place via yelp, all the great reviews made it an easy choice. I must say, from the outside this gem looks quite ordinary, and looking in through the windows one might think this place may be expensive. Looks are SO deceiving! When we walked in we were pleasantly greeted and the hostess set up a table for us immediately. The waiter then took our drink orders and brought us a bread basket with some olive oil and basil (I think) paste to put on it. SO GOOD. The prices are reasonable with the pasta entrees ranging from $10-15. I ordered the lasagna and my bf ordered the tortellini di carne. I must say I have never had such a flavorful lasagna in my entire life. It was such a thick slice too! So delicious! I tried the tortellini as well and it was also mouthwatering. We ended up going back the next day as well cause we were so thrilled and our bill ended up coming out to $30 for both meals and drinks (nonalcoholic) They also have free home made biscotti at the counter! I never noticed this gem in the Redmill Shopping Center. I've lived in the area all my life and have never been until recently! Our office decided to have a work dinner there one late night and it was incredible. I had the tortellini and it was awesome. I went back a few days later (because it was that good) and got the tortellini again with some fettuccine alfredo which was amazing! Usually fettuccine alfredo tastes the same everywhere, but it was definitely different here (in a good way). Going to be getting that when I go back. I highly recommend this place, it's awesome. [ Update 3/5/17 ] I looked back on this review and realized I gave it only a 4/5; however, this definitely deserves a 5/5 now that I've had more of the menu. I've gone back a bunch of times and have tried a wide variety of foods, probably about 1/3 of the menu at this point. Everything has been spectacular. Food: 5/5 I've loved everything I've tried and I can't wait to try more different menu items! It's just so good and the portions are very generous. Service: 5/5 Everyone is always so polite, friendly, and warm. Service is fast, attentive, and just all around awesome. These are good people. I moved around the corner from this place and decided to check it out for my birthday dinner with my dear friend. We were so impressed with the food! We both got eggplant parm, but I got Fettuccine Alfredo (sans chicken) instead of spaghetti. The entire meal was delicious! The sauce was on point. Above and beyond any expectations I might have had. The one star deduction is for two reasons: first, my friend thought the service wasn't friendly enough. I actually liked that they kept it brief and to the point (she enjoys to engage in menial chitchat more than I do). Secondly, I would have enjoyed a smoothie, but would have taken Dr. Pepper as a close second. Maybe a strawberry lemonade. No go. They have plenty of beer and wine, but not much else. I ended up having water, but a fun drink would have made my visit a perfect one. We enjoyed their unique spread that came with the bread. It consisted of crushed olives, with garlic and parm cheese. We also requested olive oil and balsamic vinaigrette to dip it in. Fantastic! The best part of all was the dessert. I had the bomba, a yummy sorbet with white chocolate. Went here for Father's Day with the bf's fam...we LOVED it!! We made a reservation based on prior yelp reviews and, like others, we were a bit skeptical. The food was delicious from the bread basket up through the desserts, everything was delicious! The prices are comparable to the typical chain restaurants like Macaroni Grill and Carrabba's, but the ingredient quality and food authenticity is far superior. We came to Biscotti after our son's baseball game. We aren't familiar with this area so we weren't expecting much but we were so pleasantly surprised. The decor is simple but cheerful and pleasant and the food is outstanding! The rockfish was fresh and delicious. The linguini frutti di mare was fantastic. My daughter got the spaghetti and meatballs and loved it. The meatballs were homemade and so good. My son got the chicken Parmesan and said it was the best he has ever had. My dad got the chicken piccata and really enjoyed it. My mom got the minestrone and portables mushroom and said it was excellent. The tiramisu and cannoli for desert were out of this world. The food is high quality and authentic Italian. The owner and chef Oscar came to our table to greet us and was so pleasant and kind. He has trained with the best Italian chefs in dc. This place does not follow the cardinal rule of "location is everything" what with it being in a strip mall but the food, service, and prices are excellent. I have been there twice. The first time was with three friends and most recently with another friend. The comments from all were universally good. One friend called it some of the best Italian food he'd ever eaten. An out-of-town guest stopped in the middle of our fairly intense conversation and stated, "This is really good! Exceptional!" That was the salmon and pasta dish. I am very impressed with Biscotti. It is a small, intimate place with very reasonable furnishings. The service was excellent. The server knew the menu in detail and offered suggestions for dinner and even knew the wine list in detail. Prices are very good and portions are appropriate. I recommend this as a nice, reliable, intimate place that should be a regular on your list. read more

While visiting my relatives over Christmas, they brought us here for Christmas Eve dinner after mass. They are regulars, and I can understand why. Great little restaurant with a low-key decor, mostly-open kitchen and a great vibe. My uncle recommended their homemade minestrone soup and I was thrilled he did: fresh vegetables in a tasty broth. Just a lovely, lovely version of minestrone that was fresh, flavorful and not too heavy. The pear salad was crisp and refreshing with pears and fresh greens that were balanced nicely with blue cheese and walnuts. The staff recognized my uncle and his family and brought us gnocchi as an appetizer on the house. My recommendation: if the gnocchi is on the menu (it is not always) - order it. What a nice local Italian restaurant. I hope to come back next time I am in the area. read more

Loved it! Husband and I tried it for the first time (after driving by it 200 times in the last 2 years and saying "oh! We should check that out!" ) Well we finally did, and we were not disappointed. I ordered the penne alla vodka (without the salmon and spinach). Husband ordered the spaghetti and meatballs. Mine was amazing. The sauce, although a vodka sauce, it was not too heavy, nor too light. Perfectly tomato-y and creamy. The tomatoes were actual fresh cut tomatoes (not canned). I am not a fan of tomatoes (just byproducts). I ate all of these. We also ordered a house Chianti and it too was perfect. It was busy when we arrived, but the service was still wonderful. We never felt rushed, nor did we feel like we were being ignored. Very surprised how good this restaurant is. Is in strip mall near Derwood, MD. It is a friend of mine's favorite Italian restaurant, so took him for dinner for his birthday. It's a small place, and we had to wait about 10 minutes for a table, but it is worth it. Excellent food and service, at a reasonable price. Had the Penne Alla Vodka Penne which was pasta with salmon, spinach and tomatoes in a light cream vodka sauce. Excellent. Another example of why yelp needs to add the .5 option. Definitely better than a 3, but not quite a 4. The lobster ravioli was good, I absolutely loved the sauce they used with it. The SALTIMBOCA ROMANA was good. Not the best veal saltimboca that I've had, but still pretty solid. Ended with the tiramisu which was also great. The chicken marsala was okay. Overall a really solid place, and I feel bad giving it a 3, as it is definitely better than that, just couldn't justify the 4. Absolutely worth a visit though! read more

My wife and I decided to go out for Valentines Day last minute. We found this restaurant via my GPS, and being new to the area we didn't know what to expect. I was amazed that we had only a short wait for a table. We both had pasta dishes that were exceptional. As others have said, the portions are quite large, so sharing an entree might be worthwhile. Had lunch with a friend and her small daughter. Service was slow but since we were babbling on with one another it made little difference. We both had pastas and each was quite good. The bambino had some of their warm bread, all of the olive spread, a piece of candy, a little of the calamari we order for her and some of Mama's pasta which she got all over herself.
